My non-smoking room smelled like smoke.
The tv was a tube tv - not that I really cared much.
The breakfast wasn't free.
That said, the bed was comfy, the shower stayed hot, and the staff at the front desk gave me a great, quiet room at the end of the hall on the top floor after I said I'd been driving all day and was exhausted.
The three-star rating comes from my non-smoking room smelling like smoke - it would have gotten a solid four, otherwise.
Hard to argue with this hotel. Ideal for access to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and State Park (just a few miles away). Just 2 miles away from some really nice dining in downtown Chesterton (plus a Bob Evans about 30 yards away, if you are into that sort of thing).
Can't speak to the price, as I stayed on Hilton Honors points. But the room was nice and clean, the whole place seemed fresh, and the breakfast (not free, but not expensive) was remarkably good.
