First time at Hookslide's on a Thursday: could have been better (or worse for that matter).
There's a solid selection of beers to choose from, but a very limited selection of hard liquors/mixed drinks. Avoid the Vanilla Vodka & Coke (Vanilla Stoli and Coke), and get the Vegas Bomb (Malibu, Monster, Peach Schnapps, Crown Royal).
Our server was a nice blonde girl. She was attentive, but put everything on one bill. Oh, well.
I know it's Lowell, but they could have stepped up their security a bit. A clearly intoxicated male came up to my group of friends and told me that I shouldn't be in a shirt and tie, then spilled his beer on our table on his way to throw $1's at the gogo dancer.
Oh, also - not to point out ethnicity or anything - but this place is predominantly caucasian.
I turned 21 over the summer, and this was one of the places I frequented with my friends a lot. Great atmosphere, and moderately priced drinks. It does get very packed in here and sometimes it's hard to move around, but you're guaranteed to have a good time! Their drinks are super strong too (I always get the Midori Sour or Tequila Sunrise), and their beers are very well priced.
Also, major props to their staff...there was an incident when I went recently with a patron who touched me, and the staff was quick to confront the situation. Â I feel really comfortable in this place, especially because of the high staff ratio.
This has been and will most likely be my go to bar for a long time to come.
I wish you could give negative stars.
While I've been here for beers after an event at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on a Saturday night, and have tossed a couple back after the Good Times weekly road races on Wednesdays.... beer is about the ONLY thing in this place I'd suggest.
Went last night for dinner with a couple co-workers after work.
We wanted to go somewhere we could sit outside and enjoy the weather.
We were the ONLY ones outside, and the service left a lot to be desired. It was the bartender who took our order, a different server who served us, and they barely checked back with us to see if we needed refills, how things were, etc.
Oh but it gets horribly worse.
I'm eating my garden salad with steak tips (which I ordered medium and were delivered to me super well done), and I found a black hair.
Sick. I have blond hair. It wasn't mine.
Ordinarily I'd send it back right away, but I was starving and besides, the server was hiding out somewhere and we hadn't seen her in a while so I figured I'd tough it out...
BAD DECISION.
Found a second fucking hair and threw in the towel.
Disgusting, to say the least.
The server came back, I told her, very politely, because I know it's not her fault, about what happened, and asked if she'd just tell the manager to alert them that they got themselves a little situation in the kitchen with HAIR everywhere.
She told me she would, and asked if I wanted the salad taken away from me. Um, yes.
She came back 15 minutes later with the check, and the salad was still on there.
Now, I've served tables before and if a customer finds a hair in their food, you tell the manager, stat, and typically they come out to talk to the customer or at the very least, take the gross meal off the bill.
No such luck.
I went inside and told the waitress that I wasn't really comfy paying for the salad that I barely ate. She said no problem, and proceeded to go over to the manager, who was sitting at the bar drinking a beer, and told him right in front of me, "she found a hair in her salad."
Obviously she hadn't told him in the first place, even though she said to me when she dropped off another drink that she had told the manager.
FAIL.
The manager slash owner slash bar patron?, came over to me and apologized and asked if I wanted a beer on the house. He was a very nice guy, and whatever, it's not his FAULT, but it's gross and nasty and frankly, I should have gotten this taken care of right away and shouldn't have had to seek him out to discuss it.
I didn't opt for the free beer since we were on our way out, and to be honest, I was done with the place at that point and just wanted to get out of there.
This place is the type of place you'd go on a weekend night to guzzle beers. Never would I ever order food from there again, and I'd be hard pressed to even go in there for another brew, considering all the other great places right in the area that seem to have much better customer service and where the food is actually hair-free.
