The Phatom Gourmet gave this place a good review and said their menu had changed. We arrived to the same menus, but half of that which was on them was unavailable. The manager said they were in the process of switching to the new menu. The food we received was illprepared and tasteless. We won't be back for the new menu.
Review Source:Certainly one of the BIGGEST selections of craft draught beer in the 'burbs west of Boston. Celebrated my birthday this past Sunday afternoon with a few friends and enjoyed myself immensely with more-than-a-few pints of various IPAs (one of my pals was designated driver). Â We sat outside on the patio. Our waitperson was very attentive and kept us well-hydrated throughout the 3 hours that we were her customers. Food is standard pub fare and satisfactory. You need SOMETHING to soak up all that alcohol. Â If good craft beer is your thing, you'll be happy at Hudson's Horseshoe Pub.
Review Source:My hubby and I came for lunch a couple weeks ago. Sat out on the deck. It was lovely. Ordered beers. They didn't have Sam summer. Bummed out. We ordered pastrami egg rolls. Those were fabulous!!! We each ordered med rare burgers. They brought us wrong orders, and after 5 mins the came for them. Our lunches came, and burgers were overlooked. Buns were so hard. Lunch was pleasant, but burgers weren't all they are suppose to be. I only ate half of mine. Bottom line! Burgers weren't worth the trip. Egg rolls were, and I'll go back for those babies.
Review Source:A friend and I found this place a couple of years ago, and it's our normal dinner stop when we're heading to the mall. Â We were (originally) impressed - the menu selection was great, food was pretty good, service was decent - what's not to love?
Well sadly, they seem to have gone downhill in 2013. Â Not sure if there are new owners / managers or what - but whatever made this place great is LONG GONE!
The menu has visibly changed - not only are old favorites gone but there is far less selection than there used to be. Â Prices have gone up (but sure, where haven't they gone up lately?) Â Sadly, it appears portion sizes have also shrunk. Â You used to get a decent sized plate for a decent price, now it's the opposite - tiny portions for a high price. Â On top of that, the food just hasn't been that good lately. Â New suppliers? Â The ravioli is obviously the frozen sort I can get at the supermarket in bags of 30 (yet HS pub charges me $16 for like 8 of them), the chicken is sort of dry and looks like the stuff you buy precooked at the store. Â We found everything mediocre, at best.
Oh and the service - seems like they're working everybody too hard? Â Everybody seems really busy now - no personalized attention. Â The waitress will see you when she can, your food will be brought out by kitchen staff (and often wrong - last time we went we got a third dinner (we were two people). Â They didn't know what was going on. Â Drink refills are hard to come by and though not unfriendly, it was a very non personal experience. Â No joking, no niceties, no chit chat - just 'what do you want?'
Not sure what's with all the high ratings - they are either old reviews or people seem to love the beer selection (I'm not a beer guy). Â Maybe this is great place for a drink - but don't stop in for an actual meal - yick!
I used to love this place - really. Â It pains me to know that I now need to find a new restaurant in the area for when me and my friends are making mall excursions.
I'd be interested in knowing if they ever undo whatever badness they did at the beginning of the year - I'd be happy to be a regular again.
Beer selection is great. Â I applaud the fact they always have cask selections. Â Prices are reasonable and they always carry local suds. Â
The food is absolutely horrible. Â In writing this, I've been coming for about 3 years and noticeably this year the food quality is poor enough not to return, except maybe for the beer.
Service is so rude. Â Wouldn't take guests here from out of town.
Head to the Horseshoe if you love beer, good food, want a surprise in the heart of Hudson. Â
Situated a few blocks off the center of town rotary, the Horseshoe Pub is a solid restaurant with a fantastic beer menu, and very good food options. Â I have been a few times and have had the burger, steak tips, and bolongese. Â All three options have been solid. Â The burger is actually cooked to temperature like it should be with fresh, spiced ingredients. Â The tips are marinated very well, and come with two sides, and the bolongese had the proper sauce, unlike other throw togethers.
The beer is is very good. Â With over 80 beers on tap, you most certainly can find yours. Â A great stout and porter list too which many can appreciate. Â The seasonals go quickly, so get there fast.
My boyfriend and I visited this pub&restaurant last night for a late dinner. Â The place is homey, clean, and well kept. Â Our waitress was friendly, informative, and patient. Â The food was delicious and cooked well :) Â I had the boneless friend chicken with homemade sauce, red bliss mashed potatoes, and veggies. Â My boyfriend had the kick n bayou chicken& sausage farfalle. Â Go and enjoy their wonderful food and great varieties of beer! Â

Some coworkers and I stopped here one day for lunch about a year ago. Â We were all very happy with our food. Â What stood out to me is the ambiance of the restaurant. Â We had booth seats which had very high backs (if not all the way to the ceiling) Â which made it feel like we had a private room. Â Unfortunately we did not sample any of the plethora of beers that they had on tap.
Review Source:Went to Horseshoe pub to watch the Pats on Sunday after having seen it on Phantom Gourmet a bit back. Living out around 495 there isn't a lot of exposure for restaurants, besides some places in Worcester. So when a place is recommended somewhat near me, I'll try to get out there.
I was first attracted by the advertised beer selection. I wouldn't say its overly impressive, but its better than most places can offer. Being later in the fall season, the availability of the seasonal brews was hit or miss, but I was able to make do. My wife, who is more a martini than beer drinker, was able to find a couple brews she found really tasty.
We went in with the intention of getting a couple entrees while watching the game, but after seeing the Irish Nachos go by us a couple times, we felt we had to have them. It's waffle fries covered in melted nacho cheese, and has a decent bite. It comes with bacon also, but we passed on it. It was pretty awesome. After splitting that and a couple of craft beers, we had no room left for an entree.
The service was good. One guy in particular who seemed to be a manager was very attentive. The ambiance wasn't quite what I expected, especially during a Pats game; it was a little subdued. But overall it was a nice spot to hang out, have a good draft beer and some comfort food.
If you're a beer drinker and looking for a low-key hangout, try this place out.
This is a great place to meet up with friends for beers and food. Especially since the Piccadilly Pub closed up, it fills that local need for pub food. There is no shortage of beer here, and the food is quite good to boot. A very homey and easy-going atmosphere. Just be careful on Sunday nights because they close early at 8pm.
Review Source:Food here was decent and the place was packed. Â Id say the food is on par with the 99/Applebees/Chili's but with some better choices. Â I had salmon and my friend had scallops -both decent for a non-seafood restaurant.
Service seemed good with all waitresses except for ours. Â We had Donna who appeared to be very disgruntled with her job and seemed like she was going out of her way to bring us anything. Â We felt very rushed. Â The other odd thing is my friend kicked off her shoe to tuck her legs under her at the booth and the woman told her to put her shoes on because "her boss was watching everything on the cameras". Â however, she didnt seem concenred when seh then plunked herself down at a nearby booth to socialize with friends (coworkers?) who were in for dinner that night. Â not sure why her boss would get mad at my friends shoes being off, but not mad at her for sitting down on the job, in the dining room nonetheless.
make sure if you go, dont sit in Donna's section, it will be a total buzzkill to what would otherwise be a decent weeknight out at a good pub with friends.
I come here regularly on Trivia night with a group of co-workers.
Their list of beers is quite impressive, although sometimes I wish they have a slightly larger selection of ciders (which I am partial to). Right now, I believe they only have Woodchuck's on tap. During the winter, they had Magner's and Original Sin.
The current crowd is a mix between young and old. The waitresses here are very friendly and are quick to serve. There may be a bit of wait time between drinks and ordering food though.
It gets busy as you go through the evening. If you want a table near the bar, I suggest getting there around 5:30. Any later than that, and you're going to have to start waiting or settle for a table outside of the bar area.
Food is passable and pricey for what you get. The sampler plate is perfect to share among 4 people, although the onion rings aren't so great.
Among the things I've tried:
1. Chicken Sandwich: You can get this a variety of ways. If you get it fried, it's with some sauce (depending if you get it barbeque, buffalo, etc) and a bun with fries. And that's it. Passable, but probably wouldn't get it again.
2. French Dip: Pretty good with a nice strong broth.
3. Burger: Passable, but it wasn't a standout burger.
4. Open faced Prime Rib Sandwich: I doubt it's actually prime rib, but I think this is the best dish you can get for your money. A steak over garlic bread , top with BBQ sauce and peppers. Goes great with garlic fries and runs about $10.
5. Chili: I usually get a cup with cheese and jalepenos. Has a nice kick, served with tortilla chips.
6. Nachos: A huge plate of tortilla chips with toppings. It's okay, but I wasn't that crazy over it.
The dishes here (especially the pasta plates) are pretty big, but they also run upwards of $13+. If your entree comes with fries, I definitely suggest the garlic fries.
Horseshoe is a nice place to go once in awhile, but the menu gets a bit old if you go nearly every week. This place is a good option if you're in the area.
Came to this place with a group of friends on a weekend.
The beer selection is pretty huge, didn't have Sam Adams so I went out of my comfort zone and tried a honey mead. It was quite delicious in it's own specialty glass, although was a little smaller than I hoped.
Everyone seemed to be pleased with their food, I personally got a steak bomb with spiced fries. It was really quite good. They also have regular, waffle and sweet potato fries, which is the most selection I've seen of fries at a restaurant/pub so kudos to that.
If you're in the area, I suggest coming by and just look in awe at all the on tap beers they have in a row. My friends also say that the beer do change from time to time, so it can help you get a taste of new beers if you're into that, of course the flip side is that they could lose a favorite of yours.
KENTUCKY BOURBON BEER??! What in the world?! The most unique beer I've had in my life. Beer aged in bourbon barrels and you get KENTUCKY BOURBON. Wish I had known about this gem earlier in the night because by the time I found it I was so full I just got a 10 oz and couldn't finish it.
Love this place for the nuclear chicken wings for an appetizer. Usually places say they're spicy and then it's always just a whisper of spice such as paprika or cumin... no this dish was super packed with heat in a good way. Just imagine sitting at a table with 3 big guys, and we had one little plate of wings to share... we were struggling to finish the second tiny piece. A dish well done. However, the main courses were A-ok...
the ribs were a little lacking in climax, but the portions were big. I expect the fries at a pub to be hot and crispy, these were hot, but more on the wilty side... always a sad let down.
This place is great! Â How could it not be they have 88 (quality) Beers on tap... Â Well, 87 quality, and they have one "joke beer," PBR on tap. Â
The food is great! Â Double baked buffalo wings are awesome, and usually their beef specials are top notched!
The service is great. They are very friendly. Â They have a sign in the front entrance that states "enter as strangers, leave as friends." Â This is so true!! Â Because of the staff, we now have made a lot of friends form this place.
If you haven't gone, you need to check this place out!
I heard this place is great for drinking..since I am not a drinker I went for the steak tips (they called them Beef Tips)... and it was excellent. Very tasty and tender. We also had other entrees that were very good. The place is nice and clean. I guess for happy hour is the place to go here in Hudson. The only bad thing was the waitress that did not care much to get my refills and when I asked she gave me a little tude.
Other than that it was ok.
If this review was purely based on beer selection, my rating would be 5 stars. Unfortunately, this place also serves food so my review will be on both.
The firs time I came here (somewhere around April 2010) I had a pretty bad experience. (The service was good, though). Â I can't remember exactly what we got, but 2 sanwiches and an appetizer came up to about $50. I remember specifically getting the appetizer sampler and it looked like it came straight from the freezer, to the microwave or fryer, and then into my place. Nothing tasted like it was made at that point. For $13, I was expecting a bit more. The sandwiches were meh. Not worth a bill of $50.
More recently I started coming here for trivia. We typically sit right at the bar and get nachos, buffalo wings, and several beers. The buffalo wings are good, but the nachos are hit or miss. They really need to start putting more cheese, less onions, and serve it up with some guacamole or something. Service is good at the bar, and the trivia girl is awesome so I will definitely continue to come here.
Hopefully the food gets a bit better and I will come back and change my review.
If you come here for nothing else, come here for the awesome beer selection. This is the only place in central Mass where you can get a beer selection even remotely close to this one.
More than 80 craft beers on tap. Really. Need I say more?
Bar food done right. Right price, right portions, right flavor. (We were lucky enough to sample the Oktoberfest menu twice and it was such a treat. I'm a knackwurst fan for life. KNACKWURST, BABY, YEAH!)
Great service. Outstanding. Pros.
Horseshoe Pub is a gem. If you're lucky enough to snag a seat in the bar, you'll probably see me checking off the next beer on the list!
So many places have tried this same restaurant concept and failed. You have to applaud a place that does it right.
It's much like the smaller but cool redneck cousin of the legendarily Sunset grill in Alston Ma.
Tons of tap, fun theme nights, lots of specials, all around a great place to eat and drink with friends. Worth the trip out to Hudson.
I came back and this time tried out the fish and chips. Â Shared the rueben egg rolls that were delicous. Â I could have gone for the actual rueben. Â The eggrolls needed Russian dressing to dip. Â That is my only suggestion there.
Friggidy fresh and friggidy awesome. Â The friggidy fries were fab.
The portion was the size of my face. Â
This place is relaxed, casual and not for the overly picky diner but certainly for the picky beer drinker!
With apologies to Bobby Flay, I present the following beer tasting 'throwdown': Â The Horseshoe Pub in Hudson versus the current 'Boston Beer Summit' event:
http://www.yelp.com/even…
The tap selection at the Horseshoe Pub is unparalleled. Â There are 79 cold-tapped beers to choose from, plus 2 more open kegs at room temperature for those who believe that room temperature beer tastes better. Â I wondered whether the availability of all these beers would mean that some of the less popular beer would be flat. Â I was told that the kegs are tapped at least weekly. Â This left me unconvinced, so I selected an obscure beer and found it to be fresh and good.
admission: $0.00
beer selection: outstanding, and on tap
atmosphere: excellent, loud, and fun on a Friday night after work
conversation: easy, relaxed, interesting. Â FUN!
likelihood of making a new friend on a Friday night: high
beer, music, and fun: yes
actual cost: $5 beer, plus $1 tip
By contrast, the Boston Beer Summit has this to offer:
admission: $42.50
beer selection: outstanding. More than 200! but on tap or in bottles?
atmosphere: fun.
conversation: not designed for that. Â BYO friends.
likelihood of making a new friend: low
beer, music, and fun: yes
actual cost: $42.50, plus $20 cab ride home (because you will need to drink a lot to get your $42.50's worth)
In the opinion of one of the other reviewers *who had not tried the pub* in this pub/restaurant, this would have been a 5-star place but for the absence of a "wow" factor. Â Wait till he gets a look at the pub!!
p.s. Â I went back again to try the restaurant, which I would describe as "family oriented" and "casual", but unremarkable. Â The 12oz sirloin was very good, and the breaded haddock was good but not memorable. Â I found the dining experience to be just a cut above restaurants like the 99. Â I'm sticking with my 4 star rating overall, but mostly because of the pub selection.
My former Manager is a Brit; he loves this place. He enjoys the casualness, beer selection and maybe the small fond mementos of his island across the pond. To be clear, Horseshoe will never be mistaken for a genuine British Pub, a thirsty cricket team in for worthy pint would not blend in regardless of zip code. it does succeed however in being a worthy "Pub".
The town of Hudson is a typical, slightly outdated but not quite charming, New England mill town with a past its prime Main Street. Horseshoe sits on a back road parallel to that Main Street, within walking distance to the best my humble working town of Hudson has to offer. It benefits strongly from tradition and location, this is mainly a beer drinking pad for the locals.
Their beer tap selection is enormous, you probably wont find better this far outside the city. There is some effort to give it an old pub feel with the large dominating bar, high top tables and over sized booths-all wood in a wood floored and pillared room with a blazing fire. This is countered with recessed lighting and modern fixtures. The service feels not polite but comfortable and accommodating.
The food is surprise... Pub food. Better than say Picadilly but still nothing spectacular. What they do offer, making Horseshoe an interesting place for me, is a special theme menu throughout the year. Currently it is Mardi Gras season! Naw'leans is the flavour and its a good one. For lunch i had two hard to find appetizers, the Alligator Bites and Crawfish Quesadilla! I was most excited about the gator and it was the best of the two. I was dreading it coming out hard and overfried but it was not; fried perfectly-light. The inside consistency was perhaps mushier than i expected, almost like swedish meatballs but tastier. The reptile taste doesnt really jump out at you for better or for worse. The quesadilla i didnt enjoy at all. It was soggy and a fishy quesadilla taste is not as promising as first thought.
Overall this is a great afterwork place to destress and have a few beers at.
This is my experience at the bar.
I would give it one less star, except, yet again, the beer selection won't allow me to!
The bartender seemed competent, but he did forget to put my meal in and gave the excuse that it was a "full house" and a the length of time it was taking is normal. Come-on, one meal?
I too work in the restaurant business and yes, I know you forgot to put my food order in. Regardless of how many people there are in the restaurant, it shouldn't take 40 minutes for a medium-rare fillet Mignon. And when I got it, it was a bit rarer than medium-rare.
And when you made my Horseshoe Special Margarita, which was supposed to have 1800 Silver Reposado, I saw you use Cuervo. No, I'm not impressed. And I don't accept the excuse that there are many margaritas on the menu and it's hard to remember how to make them all. Especially when your margarita menu is only maybe 6 margaritas long, and most, if not all, have 1800 in them. And yes, I have worked at a restaurant where they offered over 15 varieties of margaritas on the menu, and other specialty mixed drinks, so that excuse was pathetic at best.
You're lucky I wasn't picking up the tab, because you wouldn't have gotten that 20% gratuity, and you're lucky I too work in the restaurant business, and accepted that what happened, happened. I just hope that you learn from this experience. Yes, you may be good at your job, but when you mess up, own up to it.
I like this place. Â It is quaint and surely reminds me of an English Pub.
I had a couple of beers and dinner with a former co-worker who was also a kindred spirited geek of the old-school days. Â He left the company I joined while we spent an evening with his other kindred buddy who happened to be of my genre.
Picture this - 3 geeks in an English-like pub in the outskirts of Boston - we shoot beers, talk about work and the virtualization and cloud computing future and then suddenly ... Elmo (of Sesame Street) walks in!
My geekness suddenly morphed into being a lovely auntie - I took a photo opportunity and Facebook sent it straight to Germany!
Suffice it to say - that was week 1, I am on week 7 in my new gig and I think I will settle. Â I am scared to settle, but I have no choice, I feel love here! Â
I used to say - "Never again for a Boston based company."
I'm eating my words because they feel like more than home.
Having worked in the deep suburban wilderness of Maynard for 6 years, i am shocked and disappointed in myself for not finding out about this place sooner. Â
The food's pretty standard pub fare, tasty and inexpensive. Â The garlic fries probably could have been garlickier, but I did like how greasy they were. Â The beer list is impressive, and has good variety within any given type.
It's in a neat old building with comfy places to sit and drink, and tables in different rooms, and the long row of taps is easy to goggle at at the bar. Â The staff is quite friendly, and was lazy indeed about kicking us out at (early, but then again, it is deep in the suburbs) closing time on a Sunday, which was nice, 'cause my friend and I then spent another half an hour in the parking lot making darned sure we were okay to drive.
A little too far from the office for a regular lunch spot, and that's probably for the best, but next time we're looking for a drinking lunch, the huge number of beers will be very tempting indeed. Â As long as i'm not driving.
I'm a city kid and anything outside of Boston tends to get referred to as Guam, but I've been spending some time in the not-so-wild, wild west (of Boston) and can safely say that this place is a-okay. Â Definitely a gem. Â One of the best options for food in and around the area if you are trying to steer clear of same-y big chain chain restaurants.
We grabbed lunch here on a weekend. Â It was pretty dead and they offer your standard pub food, with some bigger entrees on the menu as well. Â Pretty good selection of beer and drinks, too. Â We both had a hamburger with pepperjack cheese and jalapenos, though mine was served with oversized waffle fries. Â Yum. Â By far one of the best burgers I've had. Â Definitely would go back if I find myself nearby again.
Well, where to start...first of all ,I only had beer here, but, if you're only into beer, this could very well be one of the levels of heaven.
This place was, to say the least, shocking to find, shocking in a really good way. I love the cozy feel of the place, and it caught me offguard finding this in Hudson, MA. I'm glad I stumbled onto it, and I plan on stumbling in and out as much as I can.
I look forward to giving the menu a try, though, I will say this, at a glance it looked a little too same old as everywhere else. Not that I am opposed to that, it can be good if made with fresh ingredients, but, we'll have to see now, won't we?
Anyway, if you ever find yourself in Hudson, or nearby, and have a hankering for some amazing beer (loads and loads of taps and even a few cask ales)...you have to give yourself this treat.
We went there this weekend and were incredibly disappointed. Â
The food was mediocre and in very small portions. Â My husband ordered the special of the day which was a chicken florentine dish with ravioli and thought it horrible. Â Not only that, it was pretty expensive for what we ordered. Â 2 beers, 1 cocktail, pasta meal, and sandwich was $60 including tip. Â For "bar food," I think that's pretty pricey! Â We came here about a year and a half ago and had a much better experience. Â Have they changed owners?
Ive been here a few times. Â Weekends its packed. 75 beers on tap is their claim to fam. Â
Food is decent nothing award winning just normal pub food. Nachos, burgers, and the traditional irish pub food: Baked Haddock, Sheppard's Pie, Pastrami Sandwich etc, etc.
The atmosphere is super casual jeans and ball caps. Â Old wooden benches. Typical pub.
I also had breakfast here which was a less than stellar experience. Â We watied an hour from the time we ordered till we got our food...no one told us what was going on until after we paid the bill. Â The manager came over and told us that the kitchen had closed temporarily and they got back logged?? Â
I got the eggs benedict and asked for them cooked medium. (I dont like the white part runny) Â The waitress didnt seem to think that was a problem but yet when they came out they were FAR from medium almost inedible...possibly cause they were in a rush from the back log and just cooked it quickly? needless to say it I didnt eat and after waiting an hour for my food I wasnt happy. Â But I have since returned for breakfast convincing myself that that experience was just a rare case and it would be better the next time. Â It was indeed better I got my food in the normal time and it was edible.
So for my experiences at horseshoe, Ill give it A-OK.
Not many places to go in Hudson...therefore it gets good ratings for not having competition. LOL
The Shoe is one of my favorite places to go get a meal and/or beer.
Mixed ages, both singles and families go there. I've been going there before I had kids and I've brought them there too.
It's near the Hudson rotary, easy to get to for me. Plenty of parking, it shares its lot with municipal parking.
The building looks like a converted house and it had been renovated in the past couple of years. The upstairs (attic) was renovated and there is outdoor seating which is nice during the summer.
Lots of beer choices as far as I'm concerned.
The food menu looks like it was recently updated. Seafood chowder is a good bet. We had fried pepper rings (too spicy), onion rings, sandwiches. My dad usually gets the fish, which he likes.
They have an "oompapa" band and serve German food during Oktoberfest, which is always fun!
Last time I was there, the service was slow, but that is unusual and I'm guessing they were short-staffed.
You owe it to yourself to try something besides Bud when you're at the Horseshoe. 75 beers on tap automatically gets 5 stars. It's a west-of-Boston beer drinker's dream. Swap your side for the sweet potato fries or if you're a salad kind of gal (or guy) Â try the vidalia onion dressing. Never had bad food here. They have TV's, outdoor seating in the summer and oh, yes, they have beer.
Do yourself a favor and look at the beer menu before you just go and order that lager you had the last time you were out. The selection does change and you're going to sound pretty silly when you utter the words "God, they don't have anything here tonight" as you're standing at the bar gazing over 75 beer taps. You can always ask the bartender for a recommendation - or even a sample - if you're not sure what to order. There's something for everyone...
The Horseshoe is a great place to grab a beer, a burger, and some friends to watch the game, relax outside, or just hang out. They've got one of, if not the best beer selection in the area. The beer is moderately priced but the variety and the beer served in the glasses it's supposed to be served in (not sure if it actually makes it taste better but what do I know?) make it worth the visit.
The atmosphere is great and the service is excellent and friendly.
I've been going to the Horseshoe Pub for years and it just keeps getting better! Â The renovations which were completed a couple of years ago, expanded the restaurant and bar, adding more tables and booths and a HUGE new bar area. Â The Horseshoe has an impressive 75 beers on draft, primarily microbrews, with a number of good Belgian and German beers as well. Â The bartenders and waitstaff are friendly and attentive, but don't let your cell phone ring at the bar, or you'll be paying for it! Â A quarter charge is required if your phone rings at the bar, with all proceeds being donated to charities.
The food at the Horseshoe Pub consists of your standard pub fare, plus a number of entrees. Â The menu is made up of a variety of sandwiches, salads, pasta entrees and burgers. Â The turnovers are a crowd-pleaser and reason enough to enjoy a meal with your beer. Â There aren't too many vegetarian options, but I've found that the waitstaff and cook are willing to whip a vegetarian sandwich up if needed.
