I made a reservation for a group of 14 people for a birthday party at hummingbird to mars last Saturday night. The service was great--they had an area in the back ready for us with glasses of water already set out for everyone.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the drinks are expensive--about $12 each. They are also super delicious. I tried three, two from their summer seasonal menu  and the Seaside was by far my favorite. It tasted sort of like a gin mojito.

Their food menu is limited and is all from Catherine Rooney's (so think pub food). I do wish they had some of their own appetizers that would pair better with the drinks.

I would absolutely return here for a drink to start off the night, but dye to the pricing, would probably retreat downstairs or to one of the other bars in Trolley for a real night of drinking.

Stopped in here one random Friday night with my sis when she came to visit from the big apple. It's so hard to find places to impress a New Yorker when you're in the Small Wonder. Hummingbird's chill, low-key, loungey vibe and yummy drinks did not disappoint us. The one thing that did disappoint us was the creepy creepster man who followed us to the place from a previous bar despite my sister nicely asking him to get lost...But of course this was not Hummingbird's fault. Sis had an old fashioned and I had a Mars Blossom. We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and the experience. Drinks are pricey, but you cannot find their quality, nor a similar speakeasy atmosphere anywhere else in Wilmington. I give it 4 out of 5 stars only bc the drinks are pretty pricey. They are good sizes though, and yummy.

Just a note that we stopped in after having a later dinner on a Friday night and we were told when we rang the bell that they were filled to capacity. We grabbed a Stella up the street then returned about 45 minutes later and were in with a couple others.

Hummingbird is a refreshing breath of air in the Trolley Square area, with flawlessly executed drinks and a well-furnished lounge area. Our waitress was very attentive and took her time to explain the nuances of some unfamiliar cocktails. Great whiskey selection as well.

My main complaint has to do with the prices, which are on par with what you'd pay in Manhattan. In terms of the ambience, it's also tough to relax with the thumping music from Catherine Rooney's pounding through the floorboards. Finally the lounge itself is great, but there isn't a lot of seating for a couple looking to have a more intimate conversation. We ended up in huge armchairs set too far apart to talk at a comfortable volume.
