Read the menu... shepherd's pie... bangers and mashed... you would think that you are in UK/Irish food heaven. Â Uhhhh... but, like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz it is all down hill from there. Â The only quality product in the place is Bud; wine is junk and the Magners cider comes in a bottle.
1st try: Â I had the shepherd's pie one evening after reading the mouth watering menu... but, this mess was a combination of something like sloppy joe mix with beef with a couple of ice cream scoops of mashed on top. Â This was NOT a shepherd's pie; more like shepherd's poop. Â The reward for ordering this culinary masterpiece was chomping on something resembling a fingernail half way through... stopped there. Â 2nd try: Â I had bangers and mashed. Â I have eaten bangers and mashed a lot of times on my 13 trips to the UK and Europe. Â Nowhere in the UK did I get midget scoops of mashed, Jimmy Dean sausages and Shaws store brand style beans with that dish.
Service: Â barf-bar and Keno oriented. Â If you want to eat at the table, they toss placemat, 'silverware' and napkin on the bar for you to bring to the table.
Clientele: heavy drinkers... mostly racist zenophobes with a very few good natured old geezers like me mixed in.
Bottom line:  If every Chinese, Indian, Thai, family, other pubs and pizza places in Quincy go out of business... go to Boston or another close-by locale for your phoney Irish fare.  Ahh... but Murphy''s Twin Balls (Shamrocks)  is 1/2 star worse, so forget that one  (see my review there).
Note: Â I knew the now deceased former owner and wanted to give this place a good review... he was a 5 star guy!
I love this bar, its like the ones my Irish grandfather took me to in the 1970's....p.s. I was only 7! Its a total dive, but the atmoshere is cozy and the patrons are colorful. Food is way above average. Always get a different price for my usual vodka gimlet....sometimes $4, other times $7, always strong! Â Great place to grab a drink while waiting for your Chinese food order at the excellent Quincy Dynasty.
