Great Restaurant. Very good service and selections. It does have a tendency to become quite loud inside. Just bad acoustics. Also needs some plants and better wall decor. Kinda boring visually.
Easy to get to location. Just off the interstate and plenty of parking. New building and a welcome addition to the area. Only two suggestions on improving the dining experience. Drop the She-Crab soup and replace it with Calamari!
My husband and I visited J Peters for the first time today. Â My husband enjoyed his tuna salad, although he asked for grilled and got blackened. Â I ordered grilled Mahi Mahi. Â It it my favorite fish, however, when the menu says it is grilled, I expect it cooked on a "grill" and not a "griddle". Â It has a completely different texture and taste when not cooked on a grill. Â I was very disappointed. Â Also, I had a ceasar salad which has been excellent at other J Peters locations, but this one did not measure up. Â I am sorry the food was not as expected, but hope it improves, with constructive criticism.
Review Source:We are big fans of J Peters. Â We live very close to town and since it is just the two of us most of the time, we find it easy and almost as cheap to run over and have lunch or supper two or three times a week (usually we share a plate because the portions are pretty big) . Â And we are picky. Â But we haven't been disappointed yet. Â The service is always good and the food is wonderful. Â I will agree that the building itself could use a little help on the inside. Because of the design, a very open dinning area, and lack of acoustic dampening (not enough decor to help absorb some of the sound) it can get very loud. Â But that is easily fixed and I am sure they will soon. Â The only other complaint I have (and this goes for all the J Peters restaurants) is the dessert size. Â Unless you are there with at least four people, the desserts are just too big. Â They are wonderful and we always want to order one but feel so miserable after eating something that is so huge. Â We would love to have the option to order the same desserts but in a more user friendly portion. Â Other than that, we love it.
Review Source:The good news is that there is now a nice restaurant in Lavonia, GA.
The not so good news is that they have quite a bit to do to measure up to the other restaurants in the J Peters group. This venue is among the noisiest we have ever visited. The dining room sounds like an echo chamber and even without being near full there was quite a din.
The baked potato soup contained potatoes that were diced larger than in the other J Peters restaurants and they were a little hard from being under done.
We shared the California Club Sandwich and had to remove the seriously under ripe tomato slices. We pointed that out to the manager and asked him if he would serve such a thing to members of his family and he said that he would if that was all he had. This is late May and any roadside produce stand in the area has excellent tomatoes now.
There's more, but the point is to let the management and other diners know that they are not experiencing the real J Peters excellence in quality that they will find in the Anderson SC venues.
I had a fantastic experience at J Peters in Lavonia with my wife, parents, sister, and in-laws! We took my wife there after her graduation at Toccoa Falls College. It was our first time at any J Peters restaurant, but I was impressed with the service, staff, and the food. I got the soup and salad with the she-crab soup and the Caesar salad. The salad was just as good as anywhere else, but the crab soup was rich, creamy, and a must have for anyone that dines there!
It was so good we went the next day after church. This time I got the chicken tender salad which was wonderful with the house dressing.
All that being said, what would keep me coming back the most was their honey butter crescent rolls! Melt-in-your-mouth-flaky-goodness is what they were!
5 stars for an all around great experience 2 days in a row!
Salads are great! The Prime Rib sandwich is very good! But the sirloin stake was terrible, had no flavor... It was like eating a plain hamburger patty.... Everything else was quite pleasant, service was good! .....That being said if they improve the stakes I will give them 5 stars.....
Review Source:It's good. Â There is great potential here. Â And it's fairly unique in this area, so it's a welcomed new restaurant.
GOOD:
- The building looks very nice, and communicates accurately what's inside.
- The menu is big enough, but not too big, just right, I'd say.
- My caesar salad was great.
- The croissant served with my salad was nice, and had a honey-butter drizzle on it. Â (Just like J. Alexander.)
- They have several wines by the glass.
- All services was friendly and warm (hostess, wait staff).
LESS GOOD:
- It's too loud inside. Â I think it's because there are not enough vertical patricians inside, and few soft surfaces, so sound just bounces around. Â It's not that the patrons are noisy, it's the room.
- The service is a touch unpolished. Â (I know this sounds snobby, but you might see what I mean if you visit.) Â When my colleague ordered a basic, mixed drink, it was clear our sever had never heard of it (a gin an tonic). Â I expect that these nice people will catch on very quickly.
THE FOOD:
- Very good, based on my one dinner visit.
- My colleague's salmon looked good and he gave it good marks.
- My own grilled chicken salad was pretty good, but not amazing. Â The bun was room-temp and should have been warmed. Â The chicken was smaller than the bun and should have been a bit bigger, but the flavor was great.
- My fries were tasty and crunch, but too many were one-inchers and a bit over-done, so I think it was bottom-of-the-fry-basket stuff. Â At this price-point, they should not serve end-of-the-wad fries.
In summary, there is a lot of promise here. Â I will try them again if I'm in the area. Â In the meantime, I recommend you try it out yourself! Â (Then add YOUR review!)
Love their house salad with house dressing! Â My sister raved about it and now I understand why. Â Usually the salad is just a prelude to the main course but this was a pleasure all in itself! It came with a glazed croissant which was like having dessert and appetizer all in one! Â
I also had the J Peters Chicken which was like a chicken cordon blue with the cheese and ham on the outside instead of inside and with bacon as well ... yum! Â I had the cheese mashed potatoes for the side. Â The meal was enough for 2 or for 1 with leftovers for lunch the next day. Â Service was attentive without being obnoxious. Â
Overall the experience was enjoyable - I can see the salad becoming a craving... guess I will have to come back to visit Big Sis so I can come back! Â (JK)
