We were in Greenfield for the morning and decided to pick this joint for breakfast. Â We figured it was a family restaurant, local, and had been in the area for a long time so it must be good right? WRONG!
The breakfast menu is little and consists of the usual: eggs, bacon, pancakes, and biscuits. Â They feature a 'breakfast bar' so we decided to just go with that. Â The pancakes on the bar were rock hard and were the worst I have ever seen and tasted! The sausage was odd and looked odd and just tasted weird. Â The rest was tolerable but for the price tag is wasn't worth it. Â A free continental breakfast at a hotel would have been 10 times better than this! Â Just awful.
The service on the other hand was great. Â Our waitress was wonderful. Â Quick on refills and checked on us frequently. Â I felt bad that she was stuck working at this place.
I would NOT recommend a visit to Jim Dandy Family Restaurant because it is far from dandy.
Jim Dandy is one of those clean family restaurants that dotted small town America years ago. A very pleasant quiet place that gives its hamburgers a special name (the "Jim Dandy" burger), and serves them in a basket with crinkle fries and creamy cold slaw. They've been serving customers since 1964 so they know how to make dishes the way people like. Here you can try broasted chicken, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, and a killer turkey club. All in a very nostalgic atmosphere where you are guaranteed to have a cute waitress with a mild southern drawl and a big smile. If you are heading to Greenfield off I-70, it will pay you to pass by the chain eateries on 9 and look for this one. Worth a drive from Indy just for the burger basket. What can I say, it's just ...Jim Dandy!
