If I were to live in Ballard close to the Jolly Roger Taproom I would be dead of heart disease. I mean come on...those onion rings (Washington has some great onions)...and also that low density lipid busting Beer Battered Bacon...tis a freak of nature...but dam good.
Pirate themes are really not my thing but the amazing selection of ales and beers..plus a wonderful menu....winner winner beer battered bacon dinner.
I also really love Ballard...as there are some amazing shops to wander around to.
Paseo...best friggin pork sando...on that mind numbingly good bread
Dambrosio gelato
And the amazing Portalis wine shop and bistro. I always find good northwestern wines here!
I'm torn...
Cuz, when it comes down to it, I love Maritime Pacific's brews. They are GOOD. I like them. I order them all the time when I see them on a tap list elsewhere.
But this place? Yes -- all the M-P beers on tap to make you happy. Hooray! But the half assed pirate theme? A large but  totally empty feeling space? Service that is tolerable but always seems like the staff wants to be somewhere else? Meeeeeeeeeeeh.
I'm going to have to average this out with a 3.
The beer wins. (Except their cask conditioned ales which are not chilled, so you get served a pricier room temperature beer. Bleh. )
The locale is great (right off my bike path).
The service could be friendlier.
The pirate theme needs to either go all the way or go home.
