I really can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet since I'm pretty much a regular at this point. I was sad when the Piccadilly Pub went out of business but I really like Jon Ryan's. The food is really good and they have a good beer selection. Prices are totally reasonable and the service is always great. It's perfect for family lunches and just as perfect for drinks on a weekend night. It's a fun place to go to watch a game too even though there aren't a ton of TV's. It's never too crowded and they have a great patio as well. I'm there whenever I'm in town. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is that they close too early. 11 on weekends and I think 10 or 10:30 on weeknights. I would love it if they would stay open until 1 like the rest of the bars and restaurants in town! Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:I mostly sit at the bar area for food and drinks, place always seems a little slow but i don't go on busy times. Food is GOOD, always fresh and delicious! Very outdated decor but don't let that get in your way of going there. Older crowd but i am sure on weekends it varies. Great place if you are sick of chain restaurants and want to get quality food and drinks.
They are redoing their outdoor patio which i'am sure will come out nice. Not too many places you can sit and eat and drink outside which is a plus in the summer time. Went there for drinks after work last summer and loved it.
Overall good food, good drinks..nothing to complain about here.
My brother suggested this place, so we hooked up there.
Had the Balsamic Salmon with broccoli and rice pilaf. Â A couple of Sam Adams Summer Ale's too. Â Very good on all ends.
Service was great, arrived at 7 pm on Friday night, no wait.
Parking can get tight if they are busy, but a few steps away is much more parking as they are attached to a strip mall.
I'll be back.
A few TV's outside the bar area to watch the game on.
MOSTLY booth style service, very few tables with free chairs.
We went to Jon Ryan's a little on the early side for dinner (we'd just come from my son's basketball game) and the place was pretty empty. Â During the course of our meal it filled up, as did we.
We ordered a little bit of everything off the menu ranging from soup, salad, sandwiches, dinner plates, and dessert. Â Everyone was pleased with the food, the portions were good, and service was friendly.
Our final bill seemed a little high but as mentioned we ordered a lot of food and multiple courses so I think that's why I had a little sticker shock.
We'll be back.
After driving by for a year, finally stopped in for lunch today. Â The property still has many vestiges of its former life as a Piccadilly Pub but the rest of the experience is a major step up. Â The bar has a diverse selection of beers - a few favorites along with some unique choices. Â Our lunch was clearly homemade with fresh ingredients -- very tasty! Everything was clean and organized, I was pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail. Â I'm sure we'll be back.
Review Source:Took the family here the day after Christmas for lunch. We were sat quickly in a comfy booth in the back. Our waitress was nice enough, Â we put in an app order while we decided on lunch. Our apps came out and we finished them before she came back to take our order (not because we devoured the onion rings, rather, it took that long for her to come back). We ordered 2 kids mac & cheese (which my two mac & cheese obsessed kids didn't like at all), a turkey sandwich (which our guest said needed some dressing since it was so dry), a buffalo chicken wrap (just pedestrian) and a burger ordered medium that came out 10 minutes after everyone else got their meal.. Â and it came medium rare. Then we waited even longer for someone to refill drinks, waited longer for the check, even longer for someone to take the check, even longer for them to bring back the check. I'm all for a leisurely meal, but this was just dumb. The place filled up shortly after we arrived and as we were leaving, Â we saw there was only one waitress and one bar tender on. I would have been more forgiving if our waitress acknowledged the slow service due to an insufficient waitstaff level, Â but she didn't. Â I took the kids out to the car and left my husband inside to settle the bill. 10 minutes later he came out. Way too standard and basic food for the price, coupled with the extremely slow service that went seemingly unnoticed by the staff = one star. Too bad. Maybe they were having a bad day, but again, the menu didn't offer anything exciting enough to give them another shot. The place had potential being in such a convenient spot. The take away, comfy booths, clean, nice decor, easy parking, but beyond that, just meh.
Review Source:Just checked this place out for the first time. It's clean, friendly staff and the food was decent.
Very reasonable portions although you do pay for it.
The interior is nice and relaxing, a lot of children were there but honestly wasn't as loud as you would think. Very nice drink menu for a restaurant.
I'll go back.
I flew in to visit a co-worker and offered to take her out for lunch and we landed here at what used to be a Piccadilly. I'm not a big fan of bar fare (which I assumed this was) but it was her choice so I happily obliged. The menu wasn't extensive, but there were decent offerings. It wasn't what I expected - it was better. I ordered a wedge salad with crumbled bacon and blue cheese and subbed out the blue cheese dressing for the house made champagne vinaigrette. I could have licked the plate clean - it was awesome. The turkey club was excellent - the meat was thick cut and so was the bacon. My friend had a burger and fries which both looked great and she said she enjoyed it. I would definitely go back.
Review Source:My family and I really like this place. Service is good and attentive, kids love the homemade chips they serve to start, no complaints on the food. Great for standard pub type food, but really fresh. Chicken is right off the grill. My only complaint would be the claim of "fajita seasoned" chicken on a salad...while good, would have loved more of a spicy kick to it! We will definitely be back.
Review Source:I like this place. Â First of all, they accommodated us coming right at the kitchen closing time (the bar stays open one hour later) on a Sunday night. Â I expected to be kicked out the door, not realizing the kitchen was closing until we showed up, but they were very nice and didn't rush us to order.
The food is good. Â I wish there were more options, the menu is kind of small. Â I also don't understand why they make steak nachos but don't offer regular or with chicken? Â
They give you free homemade potato chips which are tasty, and remind you you are not at a chain restaurant, which is nice.
I haven't really tried the drinks menu, so couldn't tell you!
I've been here twice now. The first time our server was great. I ordered the seafood casserole but probably won't order it again. It was ok but wasn't what I was expecting.
The second time our server was a little better than the typical Massachusetts server. Not rude like most but you could tell he hated his job and didn't want to be there. He also kept forgetting things. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch sandwich.
Over all I think this is a good place to eat. The food is good and the prices aren't too high.
So happy you can get chicken tenderloins as dinner now. A must try adults or kids!!
A couple changes to note after dining here again this weekend.
1) John Ryan's is slowly starting to make renovations to the restaurant. The row of wood booths on far side of restaurant are now brand new booths with vinyl seating. Looks like they are going to re-panel the existing walls. One set of walls was now covered up with new walls. Will make it look much more clean, modern and up to date. Let's pray they do that God awful plaid rug too.
2) They have nixed the large nightly specials list. No more specials at all. They simply offer all fresh ingredients no matter what you order.
One note for the chef's (hoping they read the Yelp boards) careful on plating burgers. They got temps reversed on burgers at our table. One person got the medium rare burger who should have gotten medium well.
Very family friendly place. It was loaded with families on a Saturday night. So bring those kiddos along with you if you can't get a sitter.
Went last night. Â Had a $19.99 land & sea meal. Â Steak was very thin, way overcooked. Â Asked for medium and got well done. Â Asked for the Scallops grilled and got baked. Â Put them in a large ceramic dish that would hold say 10-12 scallops. Â There were three full size scallops and one half size. Â Looked completely lost in the dish. Â Wife had salmon which was very dry. Â Mine was certainly not worth the $20. Â This is first time having dinner. Â Been there for Apps and a beer before. Â May try again but right now it is a going to be a place for a beer. Â Service at the bar was a little slow. Â Bartender was handling customers at the bar and at tables outside of bar and doing drinks for entire restaurant.
Review Source:I went here when it first opened - there is a resturant area and a bar area. Â It almost reminded me of like an Applebees or 99 - BUT THE food is a little different.
I will totally go back since I live right down the street from it. Â
Definitly worth checking out - esp if your in the mood for food and drinks.
I checked out Jon Ryan's Pub in Tewksbury where the old Picc was. At first when I saw the menu I was unimpressed. It's rather small. I opted for a house salad with grilled chicken because we all split the appetizer sampler. The salad with grilled chicken was about $8 and it was HUGE for the price! Fresh veggies and delicious chicken. Everyone's portions were large and everyone loved the food. I am not a huge fan of onion rings, but I could have eaten an entire side of onion rings on top of my salad. They are SO good! When you order buffalo wings you get a bone-in or bone-out option (yay!) and the bone-in wings are really good. I would go here again.
