A perfectly acceptable bar-restaurant from the 1970s. Â I don't think this place has changed much since then, because walking in there felt like going through a time warp. Â At lunchtime Mallory's was full of big, all-American, working guys who've probably been eating/drinking there since the 1970s. Â And they've got a shuffleboard table.
The food is dirt cheap and strictly bar food. Â You will not find dried cranberries, bleu cheese, or organic anything. Â Instead you'll find burgers, BLTs, and club sandwiches all for under $5 or $6. Â Every day (weekday?) there's a generous blue plate special that includes a couple of sides and will run you, if I remember correctly, something like $7. Â According to the waitress, the burgers are made with fresh ground beef, never frozen, and they're still $3 and change. Â The sandwiches and burgers come with a large starter salad that has lettuce, cucumbers, onions, carrots, and tomato in it. Â Pretty impressive for a side salad at a bar. Â I had the turkey club, which was pretty good. Â Nice proportions of bacon, turkey, cheese, and tomato, and the sandwich wasn't too big that I couldn't eat all of it. Â Of course, that probably means all those big guys in there need to order two to feel full, but I was happy.
Mallory's is a good place, homey, comfortable, and it does what it does and it does it well.
