I came here last night to see a co-worker's band play. It's a tiny place that will probably fit about 25-30 people comfortably inside. I would call this place a dive that gives opportunities for local bands to perform. Not happy with the $5 cover, but oh well, they need to cover costs somehow. Drinks were super strong. $7 for a ketel one soda. I don't think I'd ever come back randomly, but that's only because it really isn't my scene anymore. Decent sound and you'll leave with your ears ringing.

This small club is in the basement of a Mexican restaurant. It's nothing fancy, but the people are nice, the sound is good, and it's not a bad place to play if you're a touring band looking for a bay area stop outside SF. Loading gear is a minor nuisance due to a flight of stairs. And lot parking will cost a few dollars. But as small venues go, it's decent.

Nearby are lots of places to eat, and of course, the ocean, with great views. A nice way to pass a few hours if you are either going to a show here, or playing one.

This is a small bar supporting local talent.  If you are coming from a large "metropolis" expecting something far from "amateur" bands than keep walking.  Some nights there is better talent than other nights.  Drinks are the same price as any other local bar and the food upstairs is great.  It is a great place to listen to music, grab a few drinks and move on.

If you come from a large metropolis and expect Jose's to provide the type of body rocking, debauched, good time jollies any place in the appopriate area codes could, you'd be in for a nasty surpise.

Small town wannabe hipsters, $7 drinks and a snotty doorman/promoter make sticking around for the out of tune amateur shit played here almost unbareable.

My advice is to stay home with a bottle of wine, a portishead album and a  fuckbuddy.

I had my  23rd birthday party here. The only place in monterey that plays house and electro on certain nights. Wednesday nights is 80s nights, DJ Action Jackson plays the best new wave. A lot of bands play here as well. I used to come all the time but since my schedule is alot busier at work, its hard for me to come. Check out coast weekly or the Jose's myspace page to find out what events are going on.

My band played here back in September, I LOVED it. Great stage and a great crowd. It's in a nice location too and not hard to spot. I wish there was beer on tap, but the beer selection was still good, and not expensive. I will definitely be playing more shows here.

This venue is located under a Mexican restaurant and it rarely smells of beans, that is amazing all on it's own. The venue has a very 'house party in the basement' feel which can get hot, sticky, and a little assgrabby (yes, assgrabby.) Your best bet is to load up on drinks at the corner bar and dance it out. Mixed drinks are NOT mild so drink wisely and walk or cab ride it home. Your only real dangers are local Monterery people and cigarette smoke exposure outside.

Jose's Lounge Underground features music from Local artists, bands from San Francisco and abroad. It is a really small and intimate setting indoors and and an outdoor area. There's room to dance and room to "lounge". A small bar with beers on tap and well drinks with reasonable prices. Restrooms are located on the 2nd floor, adjacent to the restaurant.

The last bands that I saw here, were F*ck I'm a Ghost and Human Toys! 2 totally different genres, but very cool gigs.

Make sure you have a back up plan for where you might stay if you are not from the area and/or designate a driver in case you have too much fun!!
