Probably a bit embarassing to say that I have lived in KC for 10 years and I had my first visit to 18th & Vine.  
We went because I had purchased a groupon or mucharoo or livingsocial deally.   We are early dinner people so headed out to beat the crowd and boy did we....  the restaurant was expecting to have a closed event so there were only two people in the entire restaurant!!
The music was wonderful.  I enjoyed the Blues and Jazz group that was playing - though it was a little strange to have them only playing for a few people.
I ordered fried chicken - they didnt have any.  So I ordered the catfish and was told about 10 minutes later that it would take 20+ minutes for them to thaw it out.    When the food finally arrived the portion of catfish was very generous. The fish tender and not overcooked.  The breading was good.  
We just sat and listened to music. Enjoyable but loud - we couldnt talk over it.  It truly was a bit awkward with such an empty facility.
