Good. But to be honest, there is nothing that is special. It's good, but I've had this multiple times before. I got the steak tip sub, and the tips weren't any better than Sonny Noto's, which I really like. However I do like the all the Boston sports pictures. If you're taking a trip down to Kelly's Square Pub, don't expect anything spectacular.

Because where else in Boston are you going to go to get a $14 pitcher of Sam Adams and not feel like you're in a rat's nest?

This place is a gem.  The food and the atmosphere are perfectly Boston. I hope that the tourists never discover Kelley's.  As has been stated by many others, the food is incredible; the portions are huge; the service and the wait staff are doting.  I'm going back!

Don't buy the good reviews. I have been there several times and each time I tried to give the place a chance. The food is not that great on any level. I ordered a Greek salad and they gave me a bowl of white lettuce with seven peppers! I asked the waitress if , "she was sure this was the Greek salad?" and she exclaimed, "what did you expect?". I was a bit shocked to say the least. And then the "Pizza" came. The pizza is about as conventional as you can get and on par with Domino's.

The service is downright terrible. There is a older female bartender that works there that is downright rude. She insisted I pay for a drink that we never ordered and when I tried to explaining what happened she became more incensed.

They claim to have the best pizza in East Boston but don't even come close Papp Gino'' never mind Santarpio's.  It's a local place so, when you walk in everyone stares you up and down. It's very strange.

Hands down the BEST steak and cheese sandwiches ever!!!!! Definitely a local atmosphere...come here for the thick Boston accents and sometimes rude waitstaff but I love it.

Let me put it this way: Kelly's Square Pub is /the/ place to be in East Boston. Let me break down a couple things that stood out.
    1. The food is simply amazing. This is really great pizza. The appetizers are huge and very tasty. The muscles are fresh and very yummy. The bread is fluffy and everything about the food is simply wonderful.
    2. The bartenders are nice. One lady is a little grumpy but as long as you say "please" and "thank you" you'll be fine. The owner is usually around and you know he takes pride in his business.
    3. The alcohol selection is superb. They have everything from beer to wine to draft to hard liquor. It is really amazing how knowledgeable the bartenders are too.
    4. DO come back. Their menu is huge (I wish they would actually cut some stuff) and they always have specials going on which is great. Also, the decor is really warm and welcoming. It might be a bit outdated but it is not tacky or beat down. The pictures of famous people and historic events are super super cute.
    5. The bathrooms are actually CLEAN!

My family and I eat here alot. The atmosphere is pleasant and the owner and staff treats us like family.

When we have out of town visitors we always bring them to Kelly's Square Pub.

Portions are big and delicious.  One of my many fav's is the Honey tips.

My fiancé and I come here once a week - great atmosphere, food, and cheap drinks.  What else could you ask for?!   We especially love the pizza - dare I say it's better than Santarpio's?

Gotta love the pizza at Kelly's...and pretty decent house wine as well.  The only reason I knocked off a star is because I'm not a fan of the back room.  It feels like your a second tier guest at a wedding there.   The booths are much better.

Wandered in here the other day after hearing a lot about it. The exterior of the building is a little sketchy, but walking in changes that attitude. There are photos and memorabilia all over the place, mostly dealing with local people or celebrities that have eaten there. The waitstaff was very nice and we got seated immediately.

The food was good, though the portions would be considered small compared to the amount you get at other places. Except for the chocolate cake. That was enormous.

The drinks weren't too bad a price, 7.50 for a martini...however, they were not skimpy on the alcohol which was great.  Definitely a good neighborhood spot to unwind after a long week at work.

excellent food - excellent service - first time there we had a stuffed pepper and the special pizza - from the outside it looks like a dive bar, but inside it is very nice - friendly staff

Amazing food, good price. The pizza is amazing, if you are in the area their pizza is a must try.

I live near them and i would eat from them everyday if i could. some of the pizza's are a bit costly. however if you  get 7 coupons (which you get every time you order) you get a free pizza.

I've lived in East Boston for 3 years, walking distance from Kelly's.  When I'm in the mood for pub food, it is the only local establishment in this area ... typically with good food and okay service.  I've gone there more often than I normally do over the last month and the last three experiences have been negative.. but nothing as negative as tonight.  They just officially lost my business for good.  First time, my friend and I ordered a side salad each along with a large pizza to share.  The salad was never brought out, nor did the bartender even remember that the salad was never given to us.  I had asked for my dressing on the side, she wanted hers on the salad.  After reminding him, he came out with one salad with dressing on it halfway into us eating our pizza.  Then second time, three of us ordered 2 salads and 2 pizzas to share.  Again - pizzas were forgotten.  We brought it to the bartender's attention, and requested for them to be removed from our tab.  Tonight, we ordered an appetizer, I ordered a pizza, my boyfriend ordered the steak tips.  A server brought out the steak tips and said my pizza would be out in a minute.  Ten minutes later, I asked the bartender if she could check on my pizza.  She did and came back saying it should be out in a minute.  It came out a few minutes later... At this point, my boyfriend was completely done with his dinner.  I expressed how disappointed I was.  I noticed the bartender did discuss the situation with the manager.  I did request for the pizza to be boxed up (which she did do) .. but we didn't get a red cent taken off the bill for such LOUSY service.  I don't know who's fault it was (kitchen vs bartender) and quite frankly - I don't care.  Going forward, I would rather travel for exceptional service.  The manager didn't even acknowledge our dissatisfaction ... ALL SET!

Went there with a large group. All of my Family, when we were visiting from CA. My Brother Sal goes to Kelly's all the time and I don't blame him! There were 14 of us and we had the best service, which is unusual with a large group, but the waitress at Kelly's was on top of everything. The food was outstanding and the portions are huge.

Fantastic food and prices . Best pizza in town and the specials are fantastic / Great wait staff half of them are from the old Jimmy Maggs Restauraunt..   It is a a great restaurant where everyone who is from Eastie and formerly of Eastie eats at..

For once Phantom Gourmet picked a great place to eat.

Kelly's seems a bit overlooked sometimes, but almost every time I've been there it delivers. The portions are HUGE, the atmosphere is very neighborhood (Italian style from East Boston and Winthrop I assume), and the drink specials are different every time I've gone. I especially love the broccoli rabe/sausage appetizer, flatbreads, calzones, and salads!
The atmosphere is definitely pub - don't be fooled, nothing fancy here...lots of sports on multiple televisions, and littered with images of boxers. But the food and the price make it worth it.

Only stopped in for a drink while waiting for my table at Rino's...but any place that loves WWF/WWE wrestlers as much as I do...gets thumbs up from me.

This is a great neighborhood restaurant and they are very consistent. I have been going to Kelly's for years now and I have never been disappointed, they have a wide range of choices (pizza, grilled meats, pasta etc) and they are consistently good. They also have a good variety of specials that change very frequently. The pizza is very good, it has a pretty thin crust and it is arguably the best pub style pizza in Boston. The shrimp scampi pizza is delicious and all of the other options are very solid. The steak tips are terrific and so is the home made sausage (often you can get both as a barbecue special). I recommend the pasta specials as well, some are with artichokes and chicken and others are more seafood based. Granted the pasta is not as good as Rino's but at least you will not have to deal with the whole "you should feel lucky to be eating our food" gimmick that plagues Rino's. The value for this place is very good, the staff is great and you will be bringing plenty of leftovers home, this is a great alternative if you are told there is a 3 hour wait at Rino's.

We were recommended to Kelly's while waiting for a table at Rino's Place.  It's a couple blocks down, but definitely worth the short hike!!

We decided to walk down to grab a quick pre-dinner drink, and were slightly intimidated when we walked in.  It was obviously a very locals-centered, neighborhood bar.  Since we weren't eating dinner, we had to sit at the bar (where everyone who was eating was sitting anyway!!) and tried to find a seat.  After a couple minutes confusion, a very nice man who was sitting alone at the a table offered to get up to let us (a party of four) sit.

We sat down, and instead of having to order at the bar, or have a waitress serve, the bartender came right over to take our drink order.  He pretended to be offended when I inadvertently showed doubts to the availability of a large selection of red wines (he had 6-7) and served me a very nice cabernet.  He told us to "shout for him if we needed, but no guarantees he'd answer" (haha!)

They had a football game AND baseball game on, so the men were happy, while we got to watch the colorful locals-including one gentleman by the name of "Johnny Quarters" who tried to get a lady in a FBI costume (it's Halloween!) to "arrest" him for being a litterbug (he was throwing napkins on the floor!)

We had a great time, and the best surprise came when we closed out.  A Sam Adams, 2 glasses red wine, and 2 bottles of Bud tallied to $21.

    Amazing!

If Santarpio's delivered, I may never have tried Kelly's Square Pub's pizza. On lazy nights, I'd often call and the pizza would come fast, hot and tasty. It's not the best pizza on the planet, but pretty good when you want a basic pie and you don't want to wait in line to get it.

Shortly before moving from the neighborhood, after faithfully ordering their pizza delivery for years, a friend of mine suggested we actually go there. It never actually occurred to me. We walked in and it looked like a regular bar and grill. Since I wasn't about to order a pizza and have it brought to me, I tried the ribs. The non-pizza food turned out to be really good. I vowed next time I'd try something Italian.

I didn't get back to Kelly's again until just recently after hefting a sectional into my new apartment (naturally, since it's Boston, it wouldn't fit up the stairs easily).  My moving team and I were so hungry. We weren't dressed for anywhere else, so we opted for Kelly's.

Let me tell you...no hunger in the world could make total consumption of what I ordered even remotely possible.

First, we had two orders of wings, one buffalo and one Teriyaki. The wings were tasty, but the Teriyaki wings could use some sort of accompanying dipping sauce (the Teriyaki had the consistancy of a dry-rub).

We also got a basket of warm parker house rolls. And who doesn't enjoy the basic comfort of a parker house roll melted butter? If you say you don't, I'm sorry, but you're a freak.  Everyone at my table would agree with me, so we got a second basket.

I was still hungry when a mound of food came to my table consisting of a generous piece of veal parm, three very large eggplant rolatini's (which were some of the best I had) on a massive pile of homemade fusilli. I ate it for dinner that night, and my partner and I had it for dinner the following night. We were wicked full. But let me tell you, I so wanted to eat it all on that first night. It was delicious (though their sauce is a bit on the salty side).

The moral of the story: Unless you have a crane lift you out of your apartment when you need to go somewhere, come to Kelly's very hungry and don't fill up on appetizers. I can't see how they ever sell a dessert, though they are available.

If you can finish your plate at Kelly's, as the old Italian ladies say, "God bless you."

Oh, and if you don't have an Eastie parking sticker and you need to find free parking where you won't get a ticket, again best of luck!

All and all though, while it's not the best food in the neighborhood and the service isn't wonderful all the time (hence 3 stars), Kelly's is worth a try if you're a local. I like it enough to give it a visit every few months.

The ribs are awesome & they have PBR on tap! Ok, I now I'm home writing the review and I have to say yes, the ribs were awesome, but the shrimp scampi pizza was probably the best pizza I've ever had anywhere. When the bartender first recommended it, I was thinking there is no way that can be good. It was to die for! I couldn't believe how good it was and can't wait to go back and have it again. That alone gives this place a 5 star rating. I'm telling ya, it was incredible, you have to try it.

It is what it is eh? A local pub with an Italian influence in East Boston. Are you surprised? This place is a great place to grab a quick bite. Portions are pretty big, service is...well..it's  a pub so don't expect top-notch white glove service here.

Overall it's a great spot. I'll be back.

A solid 4 stars for Kelly's.  Fresh food, good portions, clean.  East Boston ambience for sure.  Good cold Bud on tap.  Park in back if you can find a space.

I went here a while back with my boyfriend.  We needed a quick lunch after a few hours of helping friends clean for a party down the road.

The place is cute inside... for a pub.

The food portions were out of control.. Huge! I had a pasta dish and a couple beers...

    The price wasn't bad either...

There was something that would prevent me from going there alone... the other people was a little shady.. there was a couple fighting.. and she looked like she was on something.... maybe an off day... maybe I should just stay in the country..

My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try since it is down the street from where we live, we always pass it but never go inside.  The place is small and cozy and the memorablia on the walls is great to look at plus all the celebrity photos when you walk in.  This place very clean and organized which is great to see, good atmosphere as well and cheery waitresses.  They have a bar area, booths along the opposite area of the bar and along the back wall, there is a wall seperating the bar and the booth area which is nice so that you can at least eat in piece.  Plenty of tv's to watch the news/sports as well.

The menu has your typyical pub food steak tips, subs, calzones, pizza, pasta with also some pretty non pub food like the special rib eye steak and the frutti de mara which was 28 buckaroos!  The appetizer menu was pretty long although we didnt order anything because the bread and oil that is located directly on the table was enough for us.  The garlic oil is amazing I contemplated on stealing it and bringing it home with me!  I ordered the single lamb serving which came to be medium the way i like it with yummy steak fries as well.  My boyfriend ordered teh lamb and sausage combo, he likes it well done but it was a bit burnt as well.  The portion was good for the price and the meat was tasty.  The salad that comes with your dinner is a joke but hey its a pub and its decent enough, although dont get the raspberry vinagerette, unless you like dressing that is on the same page as maple syrup texture then go for it.

The serve was attentive as the girl that sat us did not give us menus and our waitress felt bad and apologized a couple of times.  She was great on service and giving us amble amount of time to look over the menu and decide what we wanted, definitely was not treated like we needed to rush out the door like some places.  Refills were offered and fresh bread was brought over when we requested which is a plus in my book.

Its an alright place to go and grab some pub food but I have had better and I would just rate this place as a 2 even though I had a good experience and the food was just ok.  I could pay the same price and get better quality food somewhere else which is what I prefer.

Last Saturday I asked about the special: grilled chicken tortellini in alfredo sauce.  My server said, "It's pretty big, but I think you'll like it."  Always a fan of recommendations by the staff, I agreed.

Then the pasta arrived.  Oh.  My.  Goodness.

This thing was a Bowl, with a capital "B."  It was larger than my placemat.  And it was completely full, just under an inch from the top edge.  Full to the brim with chunks of chicken and tricolor tortellini and broccoli smothered in alfredo that no doubt contained the equivalent of my entire month of calories within its creamy, steaming, mouthwatering OCEAN of sauce.

I know you don't believe me.  Just go.  If you can finish that Mount St. Helen's VAT of food and still waddle out the door without getting sick on the sidewalk, let me know.

I myself felt completely guilty about eating for 20 minutes and not even seeing a dent in the first layer.  Then I realized I could supply my friend with dinner for her and her two teenagers.  For the next week.  Problem solved!

This is your neighborhood pub. Period. There is a bar area and that's where you want to sit, in the front of the place. The dining room in the back is ok, but not as much fun. There is a ton of boxing memorbilia on the wall, but now, let's talk the important stuff.

THE BEST FRIES AND BURGERS EVER. Steak tips are awesome as well. So is the Buffalo Wrap.
The waitresses are feisty in typcial Eastie fashion (I love them). I go here, well, uhm, maybe once every two weeks....it's just a really nice and friendly neighborhood place. Good place to watch games too. :)
