Gross. Â Stuffed chicken is a deepfried brick. Â Salad was warm/cooked like it sat under a heat lamp. Â Cole slaw smelled rotten. Â Poor service. Â When a golfer ran into buy a water, looked around and said "big crowd must be trivia night" that said it all. Â They need trivia night to get a big crowd. Â I looked around and noticed I was the only one eating, everyone else was just drinking. Â Food is aweful. Â Go to Newburyport two exits up.
Review Source:WEDNESDAY nite Trivia FAIL! Wow! Â the place was packed this Wed. nite. We had played a round of golf, were looking forward to watching Bruins play after Marathon Bombing. But.. it was a Wednesday, and the good people of greater Georgetown were all here to play trivia. We sat at the bar, but were told no volume on TVs was allowed until after the trivia was over...9 pm. Not even for the historic National Anthem? Really? OK. So, folks were shushing each other as the trivia Q's were read aloud by the dude with the mike. The 80s music was blaring, and we were clearly in the wrong place. We didn't belong, and that was super clear. Duly noted.
As for the meal. Meh. I pd. extra to have 3 grilled shrimp on my salad. I was told there is NO Low Fat salad dressing option @ Keones. WOW! I asked for no Granola on the salad. But, they left off the cheese, the nuts as well. I guess they included the dried cranberries, I found a few on the bottom of the plate. Oh, and it was an entree for me, but came heaped on a salad plate, so was hard to keep food contained as I ate it.
Just know what you are in for, and if it isn't your thing, AVOID WED. nights. TRIVIA CONTEST RULES THE PLACE, all others need not apply.
recently attended a christmas party at the black swan...
let me just say that the food was great, we had a great time.. but the bartender (dark haired, angry man) was AWFUL.
i work as a bartender myself and picked right up on his ignorant attitude. He was NOT shy about talking to his partner behind the bar about how he felt... a direct quote
...
"this is why i hate doctor parties, they all think they can get drunk and not tip"
let me elaborate... we had JUST gotten here. the event had JUST started... if you hate your job that much, get a new one!!!! and as a worker of a very busy high end restaurant i know no matter what mood you are in you never say these things...and your little tip basket was quite full...
after waiting in like for about 25 minuets, i finally got to ask this guy for a soda water.. he huffed and puffed and barked out "two bucks"... ok so i gave him a ten and NICELY allowed him to keep the rest. NOT EVEN A SMILE OR A THANK YOU. he didn't deserve a tip at all in my opinion, but since i work as a bartender, i always try to see the best in situations and try to take care of people as best i can. but, this guy didn't even thank me. i just gave him 8.00 to pour me a soda water. SAY THANK YOU TO YOUR GUESTS maybe this is why people may have not wanted to give you "huge tips"...
I was very excited to check out the black swan because i am also looking for a wedding venue, too bad this guy had COMPLETELY ruined this beautiful site as a possible venue for me, i would NEVER let him near my family and guests, to just insult them all night right in front of their faces.
I just did a gala dinner and auction at Keon's Black Swan for 150. Â The food was great, the event staff was the Best. Â Everything went smooth as silk. Â When we went in to set up, the decorations were already hung beautifully. Â Caryl and her crew were a true pleasure to work with. Â I've been doing meetings and events for more years than I care to admit -- Keon's at the Black Swan made me look good, and made my job easy! 5 stars and more!
Review Source:I read the other reviews before writing this and see they are all over the place.  I cannot comment on the catering, just the restaurant which is now only the bar.  This is nothing like the Keon's in Haverhill which is fine with me.  In Haverhill, the restaurant is a special occasion place with incredible food.  At the Black Swan the food is delicious, the onion rings possibly the BEST, and all the food also excellent.  The scallops are some of the best I've  ever had and even the green beans worth raving about.  As this is very convenient and reasonable and we eat at Keon's at the Black Swan often and with one exception the service is just awful.  Tonight we had to wait (literally) 10 minutes for extra napkins!  We all had simple sandwich-y dinners and waited nearly 45 minutes.  At one point we were told they were plating the food and still we waited about 15 more minutes.
The only night we had good service was once when the hostess (who is only there once in awhile) heard me saying how the service is always dreadful and she seemed surprised, spoke to someone and that one night the service was impeccable. Â I just don't understand this, the staff seem like nice people, mostly "grown-ups" who should know how to do their jobs better.
The food, location and prices are reasons we will keep returning just with low expectations for service and knowing we can save on the tip.
If it's good comfort food you are looking for, the go to place is Keons Grille at The Black Swan Country Club.
Keons offers a relaxed atmosphere with attentive service from the moment you enter.
The hostess, waitstaff and bartenders have always been welcoming and pleasant making you feel right at home.
The menu is not extensive, but delivers with good food at a good price.

"I took my mother to brunch this Sunday at Keons at the Black Swan Country Club for her birthday. It was fantastic! The brunch is one of the best I've been to in the area, so much to choose from and it was all served  hot and delicious.  The service was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was over the top with the sounds of live music playing in the background. Thanks for the great meal!"
Review Source:My girlfriends and I had dinner at the Keon's Grille in Georgetown one week night last week. We arrived a half hour before the dinner menu started so had a drink, relaxed and chatted.  The waitstaff took good care of us. Billy at the bar was so upbeat and friendly. It was not very busy when we arrived as it was sort of between lunch and dinner. Three other waitstaff, Amy, Linda, and Kat also engaged us in conversation in between their duties. Lots of laughs. I think Amy was the manager, very personable. I had an incredibly tasty chicken marsala dish. One of my friends had the mac and lobster dish and groaned with delight with every bite. The other girls were on diets so had saladswhich  they said were very tasty. They also had the option of adding chicken, which they did. They said it was so moist and tender. Anyway, we will definitely be going back to this warm, friendly and delicious place. We felt so comfortable there.
Review Source:Our top criteria for the venue were many windows, high ceilings, an above average sized dance floor for under $100/head inclusive of all taxes, fees, and gratuity. The Essex Room at the Black Swan was one of the venues to meet all these these criteria. The bonus was that the food turned out to be better than expected for a large event (~200 guests). We had Chicken Marsala, Lobster-stuffed sole, and Filet Mignon with stuffed shrimp. The sole and filet are both excellent choices. They kept the steak at a true medium rare! We found their staff to be extremely experienced and organized. One thing to note is that there are 2 function rooms (Essex Room & Andover Room) that are on opposite wings of the building that share a bathroom. Noise and traffic were concerns but didn't turn out to be an issue at all. We don't remember hearing any noise from the other wedding at all. Each room has its stairway, so traffic didn't seem to be an issue either. The Black Swan has only 1 set of Chivari chairs, so if you are the first event to book for the day, then you get first dibs on them at no extra cost. Also, the Essex Room uses 60" round tables while the Andover Room uses 72" round tables, which may be helpful to know in advance.
We did our ceremony in Arlington (near Boston) and thought the distance to the reception would have been an issue, but it seemed like everyone was able to get there just fine! We called about 50 different venue sites and visited about 15 (including hotels, country clubs, function halls, estates/mansions) and after comparing what each place had to offer, the Black Swan delivered amazing value. If the location works for you and your guests, we would definitely recommend checking out the Black Swan. For folks comparing to venues in Boston, doing your reception at the Black Swan will save you about 40-50% in costs for the same reception at any hotel in Cambridge/Boston. Our rating of 5.0/5.0 is a true reflection of what we experienced. We tried to find a reason to give them a 4.5 on one of the categories to make the rating more realistic, but honestly we couldn't find any reason to give them any less than a 5.0/5.0.
VERY UPSET WITH THIS PLACE!!!!! About 3 months ago, I got engaged and my Mother and Bridesmaids wanted me to choose the place to have my wedding shower. Â We were all set to have the shower at the Black Swan Country Club outside over looking the golf course. Â We were told and shown at that time the back up room which was a small intimate room off the bar which was fine as a back up plan. Â My Maid of Honor got a phone call the morning of the shower at 8:50AM (Shower was at Noon) telling us that it was too chilly out to have it outside. Â First of all....how can you make that decision at 8:50 in the morning end of May?? My cousin told her that we will just have it inside then, and everything was all set......until we all got there!!!! Â My Mom and all other family members ended up in the WRONG WEDDING SHOWER when they first arrived. Â They gave our backup room to another bridal party having there shower there that same day. Â They had no signs telling people where to go. Â They ended up throwing us upstairs in this HUGE ball room with all the tables far apart. Â When I confronted the Manager about it, I told her I was VERY upset with everything and all she could say was "I'm SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY"!!! Â I was SO MAD and on top of that.....she blamed my Maid of Honor saying that she gave her the ok to put us up in the HUGE ball room which just was not TRUE AT ALL!!!! Â
On another note.....the food was TERRIBLE!!! They charged my Mother 20.00 per person for these CRAPPY little sandwiches.....they bascially just threw turkey and roast beef in finger sandwiches and gave us a bowl of lettuce and then another bowl of tortellini salad which was ALL SALAD DRESSING. Â We ordered bowls of Sangria which cost extra and it was the WORST TASTING WINE any of us have ever drinken. Â
Now, this is my FAVORITE part of the entire shower!!!
My fiance and 16 guys golfed 9 holes while us ladies were having the shower.  Our entire family/friends congregated downstairs after golf/shower at the bar for some drinks where we were ALL SHUT OFF BY THE BARTENDER AFTER not even 2 drinks per person.  We spent the entire day there......spent a ton of money between the shower and golf and this is how we were treated.  They were so rude to my family and friends when they were all VERY UPSET that they shut us off.  None of us were drunk or even buzzed for that matter.  I can tell you right now that NONE OF US will ever go back to this place again and it's too bad because we are all from the area.  VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!  This place is SO UNORGANIZED and VERY poorly ran!!!!  Not to mention the Management and staff are VERY RUDE!!!!  THANK YOU BLACK SWAN FOR RUINING MY DAY and embarrasing my friends/family!!!!!
The Keon's in Georgetown was just disappointing. Â We had expected more because the Keon's in Haverhill gets such good reviews, and it's in a country club - and country clubs tend to have really good food.
We got there about a half hour before dinner started, purely by accident, so we had to order off the lunch menu, which is fine - I get it.  The menu wasn't incredibly varied - mostly sandwiches - but, again, that was fine.  We got the lobster mac & cheese to start.  While there were a few huge chunks of lobster, I tasted mostly bacon and virtually no cheese.  It was kind of oily.  My pasta was good - chicken and shrimp is almost always a good combination - but nothing fantastic.  Fiancé had a burger (surprise surprise) which was "okay."  Nothing memorable, really.
Service was a bit slow given that we were the only ones dining at the time other than a few people at the bar (who appeared to be mostly drinking - at 4:30 in the afternoon - and bragging about what buildings they own and their ruined trips to Aruba. Not to sound snobby, but they were super tacky.).
Just not impressed in the end.
