If you feel like having some good spanish food and delicious margaritas, la hacienda is the perfect place..  Came here for my friend's birthday and we all loved it...

So, I have been here on two separate occasions. The first time was for nightlife and the second for breakfast.

Nightlife: VERY vibrant place. You will most likely wait in line first and then be frisked and will need to prove that your pop out vw key you have isn't really a knife. They serve food up til the end, cheap oysters and lots of drinks! And again, this place is really hopping at night, so if you like to dance to salsa and eat really good food..come!

Breakfast: You will most likely wait in line if you don't time it right. I went on a Sunday, right around the time church lets out. Wait in line was a bout 20 minutes, watching everyone load, and re-load their plates. Yep, its a buffet! For $7.50 (!!!) you have two long rows of american and central/south american choices. Eggs? No problem, there are 5 kinds. Bacon? Check. Sausage? Check. French toast, pancakes, plantain fritters? Check x3!  They have a ton of dishes to try for both breakfast and lunch...all you can eat so go there hungry!

Its funny because at first, it looks like you are walking in on someone's graduation party at their house, its not fancy, just 2 rows of disposable aluminum pans over sterno, they way it should be!

Excellent cocktails, professional waitstaff and delicious food! I love this restaurant! The only thing I would expect more work on are the restrooms.
Whoever comes for the first time - you got to order nachos!

This is a gem of a restaurant! The food is delicious and amazingly fresh. My favorite things to eat are the chilaquiles and the steak and shrimp fajitas, every bite will leave you wanting more. The environment is a mix of cozy and classy. The servers are really helpful and very nice. I feel that the manager, Aldo, deserves special mention because  he would go to great lengths to make sure your experience at this place is very enjoyable. Also, try the mango margarita it's quite good. The salsa and the guacamole for the chips here are the best I ever had. Definitely coming back here a lot.

As a first impression its a great place. The interior design is nice and classy. The heavy use of wood gives the place a good look. The food is good but that depends on what you get (there are other places close by with better food at cheaper prices).

Everything seems good but what makes this restaurant a bad experience are some of the waitresses. Ive gone several times and its rare when i get decent service. The waitresses seem to have attitude issues. If you dont mind the bad service then its a decent restaurant.

Stopped in here recently with a friend after we asked a few locals to recommend a restaurant. We enjoyed some papusas, queso fresco and shrimp and rice dishes. The queso fresco was a massive bowl of cheese, probably about 1/2 pound, served with warm tortillas. I had some nicely preparared and seasoned shrimp with rice while my friend enjoyed some chorizo and rice. The place is very clean and sleeek and lively, especially towards the bar. The portions are huge! We ended up taking over 1/2 of our plates home.

Came here for the first time for breakfast and loved the place.  Big dining room area, nice traditional looking bar, and attentive waiter service.  Lunch is just as good serving the traditional Central American cuisine.  Also the place is open late for a late night brunch or a last beer before heading home.

I was here with my parents and I loved it! I had the beef fajitas! They were huge, the beef had a good flavor to it, it came with like 8 tortillas, rice and beans, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo.

My mom had the beef burrito. She didn't have any complains which is good since she's such a picky eater. My father had the carne asada and he also enjoyed that I will definitely be back to try more of their stuff.

The restaurant itself was very well decorated and the waitresses were also very nice!!

Four of us happened upon La Hacienda while waiting for friends to arrive at Logan. We ordered drinks at the bar and were served salsa and chips. The salsa was THE BEST any of us have ever tasted, and Aldo was a delightful bartender. We ordered queso fundido and nachos, which were both fantastic!! My only regret is that we did not have time to make a return visit on our trip to Boston.

I live across the street from this place and it took me 3 years to go here.  It was previously Cafe Italia (we miss you!) so I knew what the inside would possibly look like.  The boyfriend and I decided to go in there for some dinner one night and give them a try.  Same entrance and set up as Cafe Italia, sitting area right when you walk in and bar to your left with the same setup as previously seen.  To the right they opened up the space which is nice and added a bar as well.  Cafe Italia did not have a ton of sitting space but enough but opening up the right side of the restaurant was a good idea.

Menu is pretty typical nothing "new and exciting".  I ordered a Montanerro and I honestly dont remember what the boyfriend got so I will only review my dish.  The waitress came over promptly with menus and offered us something to drink.  (I really dont understand why people serve soda in wine glasses AND with a straw!!?! )  Anyways we ordered our dinners and then was given some chips and salsa for the wait which were really good.  The salsa was fresh and with good flavors.

My dish (Montanerro) was a big dish with the typical items, steak, chiccaron, plantains, rice & beans (would have come with an egg but I always hold the egg).  Steak was tasty and so was the plantains, nothing over the top or mind blowing I will say but it was a good dish overall.  I do remember that the boyfriend did enjoy his dish ( I think he just got a basic carne asada dish).

Other than that the food was good.  The only thing that was a bit off was that we got two waitresses which I always mind boggling.  Our first waitress was around and hanging out at the bar talking and we are served and finished with another waitress.  I dont know why people do this but I personally think its bad for business.

On the weekends its pretty packed and from what I can tell by looking out my window at all the drunk people stumbling out at 2am every weekend its a sausage fest.  It always looks like the ratio of men to women is really high.

We did order take out another time and their beef nachos are really good, well to me they are really good and I am a sucker for good nachos!

I gave this place another try... like 20 more tries! and i give it 5 stars! La Hacienda has a $5.00 all you can eat breakfast buffet from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays. WHAT?!?!?! you read right "all you can eat" and "$5.00" . it gets packed, be forewarned, but it is so worth it. How much exactly!??! $5.00!!
there is a chance you might have to wait 15 minutes in line. The worst part about this? you have to wait in front of the food... so close and yet so far...
The display is like 25 feet long and features about 4 kinds of scrambled eggs, 5 kinds of meat, pupusas, arepas, mystery corn breads, empanadas, 4 kinds of fresh fruit and fresh COFFEE!! (included in the $5.00) . They also have the full bar open at this time. Don't be surprised if someone is chasing their pancakes with a shot of tequila.
elbow bumps are unassuming, people smile at you for no reason and the staff is always attentive.
You should give their breakfast a shot, it'll win you over. It's one
of the best reasons to venture over to East Boston.

$2 Tacos! Say whaaaaaaaa???! Well priced menu, and portions geared towards the hearty eater. I'm pleased to have been introduced to this excellent spot. It's well lit, tastefully furnished, clean, large, and the staff is attentive and friendly. Quite the winning combo, and the food is also excellent.

    Had the:

    Tacos (Beef tongue, Chicken, Pork)
    Pupusas (2 veggie options)
    Burrito Supreme (Chicken)
    Flan

This is the first place where I actually enjoyed eating the Pupusas. I've struck out a few times before and had given up on these things, but La Hacienda has given me reason to wonder if I just haven't been eating the right ones until now.

My first time having Tongue tacos, and I can officially say that my strike against eating tongue is officially ovaahhhh! Very good flavor with I suppose a most tongue-tastic texture. I liked it a lot. The chicken and pork were ok, but would not repeat.

The burrito is totally ridiculous. It's bigger than at Chipotle and far better. Packed with cheese, rice, beans, shredded lettuce, salsa, and god knows what other goodies, but there were a lot since this thing was about 8 inches long and about 4 inches wide. A gut bomb that you'd be happy to ingest.

Flan was otherworldly and the clear cut winner of the evening. It had this delicious creamy texture to it, and I now want more. The perfect meal here would be a couple of tacos, the flan, and a Negro Modelo beer with lime and salt. Yum.

I have to agree with Enrique-it's East Boston. Speaking Spanish definitely gives you an advantage in the restaurants and bars in this area.

I've always had a great experience here. I haven't tried the food yet, but I've heard good things. The drinks are good and priced reasonably. The waitresses are sweet and attentive.

As for the men at the bar being creepy, well, you're in a bar. Let me know if you find a bar without some creepy dudes. I've never had serious a problem with any of the guys at La Hacienda, but I've always come here with my boyfriend.

The only issue I've ever had here was with my ID. They didn't used to card very strictly, but now there's a policeman at the door who checks ID's. That's not a big deal, but the first night they started doing this the guy was only taking passports and Mass drivers licenses. My ID is from NH so there was a bit of an issue, but eventually I convinced him that I was of age.

I only got a takeout beef burrito with everything, and it was fantastic. Generous portions, fresh guac and sour cream, each bite a different flavor, warm where it was supp to be warm, cold where supp to be cold. and there's this spicy sauce you pour on it that really brings out the flavors even more.

La Hacienda's food is pretty good - the draw is that they have a full bar, and serve food late, in E. Boston. I really liked the nachos - and I've had the tacos and salvadoran enchiladas there. Most of the food is basically ok, but I think you can get better mexican/salvadoran elsewhere, but the atmosphere is fun (often they have mariachi's) and the owner and his wife are very nice.

Pretty decent joint in Central Square East Boston...I've heard there are much better places, but still haven't explored that much.

I haven't had a ton of exposure to the food, but I will agree with the first reviewer that the chips and salsa are great!  I have also had the chile relleno and this was good as well!  I like that it comes with a little side salad that includes half of an avocado....yummm

We also happened to get seated smack in the middle of the mariachi band which was circulating the room...slightly loud since the horns were DIRECTLY behind us...but it was still pretty cool.

I look forward to going back again...only other issue is my limited spanish speaking skills and on both occasions the limited english speaking skills of the waitress...but we managed :-)

This place used to be the Cafe Italia for a while then it re-opened as La Hacienda. It's on a street already crowded with taquerias and Mexican joints but it stands out from the casual take out places with its large dining room and bar.

There is really nothing special about it. Most of the decor is still from the predecessor. The best thing I had was the chips and salsa they serve at the bar. I had a burrito that was blah. Not spicy and some of the inside ingredients were cold. Drinks were inexpensive but poured weak. Waitresses were nice but took care of the dining room too so you were taken care of by whoever was around. The music blares loudly. Beware of the drunk men at the bar that will try to get creepingly close, sing to you and tell you their life story while your trying to enjoy your meal. I was even with my boyfriend and they were drunk enough to not know better. Check please!
