The Landmark wine bar was so disappointing. I was really excited to get a glass of wine before the latest flick but it was just average ambiance.

The service left something to desire. Our bartender had the personality of a brick. I am so forgiving towards people in the service industry, so I dismissed it as maybe she was having a bad day.

The food menu is very limited and the artichoke dip I ordered was average. I like Trader Joe's frozen stuff better.

Recap: $40 later, I regret getting wine here. Next time I'll have one at home, in the company of my beloved, with good conversation, good ambiance, and skip the snark.

I think it's great to have a nice little drink before the movie but I found it to be a rather cold atmosphere.  We didn't sit at the bar, instead wanted to relax on the lounge chairs but service was really slow and unfriendly.  I got the moscato because I had already had a few drinks at the restaurant below and we also ordered the chocolate lava cake... BIG FAIL!  Please do yourself a favor and do not order that.  It was horrible.  It tasted like they microwaved chocolate cake and then put whipped cream on top...just order the drinks if you have time to chill before your movie starts.

Here are my DOs and DONTs:

DO enjoy the film noir atmosphere as you peer outside the window and see the neon sign just outside.
DO have a drink here while waiting for your movie.
DO enjoy the nice lounge chairs.
DO kick back and watch some TV.

DONT get the chocolate lava cake as it is very disappointing and doesn't come with ice cream.

This place has been a great addition to our neighborhood.  I really enjoy coming here.  And when a movie sucks and I want to walk out...there is a bar just a few steps away that will surely have food and wine that I'll love!

My wife and I went to this wine bar as we had to wait for the next movie to start.  The ambiance and decor was really comfortable.  The service, however was very weak.  As a former bar manager, I might notice nuances that others might not notice, but I can objectively say that that the attitude of the service staff here needs an adjustment.  The bartender/ cocktail server person barely said a word when he took our order.  He just looked at us, took our order, then when we asked for water, he sort of gave us a dirty look.  The check backs were noticeably negligent- and we were in a movie theater adjacent bar.  They should have more urgency.  I had to bring the check back to the same bartender to pay, and when I handed the credit card/ bill to the bartender, he took it, sat it down, and took someone else's order.  When I manage restaurants, if a customer hands you the bill and tender, you process it immediately.  That's just common restaurant practice.

Clearly, the management wasn't around to ensure the service that we expected.  Also, if the staff checked back on us in a more timely fashion, we probably would have ordered more food and drinks- so they lost out on sales.  When we finally got the chance to order food we were informed that they ran out- so that's not good.  I tipped well because wait staff are paid minimum wage but my wife didn't want to leave a tip.

The staffing of this lounge seemed a little odd.  It seemed like there was two bar backs and two bartenders.  If it were up to me I would staff two bartenders and two cocktail servers.  The bartender didn't seem to have very much experience or customer service skills.  I'm sure there are much more qualified applicants out there dying to tend bar (and have experience).  If you are a manager of this lounge, I hope you take these comments to heart because you have obvious opportunities to increase your business and overall traffic. I would definitely think twice before returning.

Should we or shouldn't we? We couldn't make up our mind if a glass of wine before watching the heart-wrenching tear-jerker, Like Crazy, would be a good idea. Luckily, one of the guys working told us that the previous showing was still going on and that we should wait at the wine bar until it was time to go in. Obviously, we took that as a sign.

So, in we went. I ordered a house Rose, and I was delighted. The server brought out a wine glass and a separate glass with the Rose in it to pour into the wine glass. Hello, a full glass of Rose! For $8.

The lighting was nice and the music was fun and upbeat, but not too overbearing or loud that we couldn't chit chat.

We definitely left thinking that it was a Sunday afternoon must to go to the wine bar before a movie to end the weekend.

"Been there, Done that, got the tshirt."  This was the manager's nonsensical response to my suggesting that the bartender try the wine she just poured us.

We had ordered a Brunello di Montalcino at $16 glass to find that it was oxidized - like 4 days worth.  We asked her to open a new bottle (which she happily did) and it was perfect.....really delicious.  She expressed interest in knowing what that meant so I asked if she would like to taste some of our carafe.  She said she was not allowed.  It was then that the Manager came over to see what had been going on.  I asked him if she could try the wine...you know, to EDUCATE YOUR STAFF!  And that's when we got, "Been there, done that, got the tshirt."

Hmmmm.  Peculiar response. Call me crazy but if you're calling your business a "Wine Bar," shouldn't your staff be allowed to taste the wines not only just to know them (they change in bottle all the time) but also to see if they are corked, cooked or re-fermenting?

The two stars above were for our lovely bartender.  She was honest, hard working and very courteous.

I visit the Wine Bar fairly often, before or after a movie or while waiting to be seated at the always delicious Westside Tavern downstairs. The movie times as well as how many minutes remaining til seating are displayed on a screen by the main seating area. How convenient! The service is good. The bartender began recognizing us after a couple visits and always greets us with a "hi guys, nice to see you again," which is appreciated. Now we're on a first name basis.  The atmosphere is low key, but with a sense of excitement. The decor is retro mod and I love the design of the west wall, which is wood and reminiscent of a mini dance floor, but with a low inverted slope...difficult to describe, but it's artistic...that's what I'm trying to say. The beer and wine are reasonably priced. Even though I'm more of a wine drinker, the Wine Bar has played a major role in opening my eyes to how delicious beer can be! This place has introduced me to my favorite brews: La Fin du Monde by Unibroue Brewery, Three Philosophers by Ommegang Brewery and Lost Abbey Avant Garde. I'm also a fan of the Chimay Blue Label Reserve. So get to the theater early next time and stop by the Wine Bar. But don't drink too much, because then you'll have to pee during the movie!

I am definitely a fan of this place. The service was fast, everything was reasonably price and the best part was being able to see  the movie times on the TVs by the bars. It did have a airport bar feel to it, but I'd much rather be there having a relaxing drink before a movie then standing around and going to the B & N across the way.

    the order.
    wine!

the selection is definitely well chosen with a variety to choose from. the service is good. the ambiance is great. and it's just a great past time before or after a movie. a place worthy of 4 stars (if it were not for the price)

one star off for the price. if price is not an issue for you, then i don't think you can go wrong with this place.

oh and they have beer, as well. not bud and miller but the artisanal kind like three philosophers.

and it's across the street from westside pavilion so if you fancy yourself some mall time. just cross the bridge on the top floor of the landmark theatre/ barnes & noble building.

My boyfriend and I had a good amount of time to kill before our movie so decided to hit up the wine bar for a little drink and snack before the movie.

We camped out on a couch, browsed a menu, watched the waiter make some rounds and waited for him to swing by our table.

Yeah, that never happened.  It started to become a joke.  We'd try to catch his eye, he'd look away.  He waited on tables around ours.  He came up to other recently seated parties with cocktail napkins and inquiries regarding drinks.  We weren't smelly or dressed oddly, or behaving unusually.  We were just sitting around...waiting.  We showed up about 80 minutes before our film.  We hung out there until 15 minutes before our movie started.  At no point were we asked about an order, or if we needed a drink, or even to go away if we weren't going to order.  We were just pointedly ignored.  After a while we stayed there just to see how long it could go on, if we could really be pointedly ignored for over an hour.  Answer: yes we could!

I don't get it.  I got red vines and a bottled water from the concession stand instead.

The wine bar is good in theory, but useless in practice.  Maybe if I want to hang out somewhere before movie, but don't want to feel obligated to spend money I'll go there again.  ;P

Usually when I come here, the bartenders take good care of me.  Good selection of beers and wines.  Nice place to pop in and have a drink (or two or three or four) before a movie and afterwards.  I usually get a 750mL bottle of some ale, because I want a big f*cking bottle of beer damnit!

It's weird how it takes food for a long time to come out and I'm guessing because there's no apparent kitchen around.  I like to think there are little elf cooks under the counter, who are too busy sloshing down drinks into their little tummies to pay attention to finishing your order.

I like the decor.  It's nice that there's a single TV with sports on it, so you can decompress in front of it, while the rest of the place still retains its tasteful atmosphere.  In fact, writing about this place now makes me want to go back, sigh.

Mama and I tried to catch the Swan, but alas, so was everyone else on the westside this evening.

Decided to catch a drink here while contemplating our next move. Very nice and swank lounge. Lots of space inside and very comfy seating arrangements. New age, Jetsons kind of furniture.

They only serve beer and wine here. No spirits. And, as expected with it's location and shmancy vibe, quite pricey. Mama and I had a drink a piece. Total: $22 w/tip. Oh well, it was date night. At the least they should've given us free popcorn. We'll probably come back if we ever get around to watching a movie here.

I just don't understand this place. The concept is good, a lounge near a movie, so you can grab a drink and a bite before or after the movie. In fact, make it after the movie, because the service is so slow, you won't make it.  Westside Tavern was totally full, and we were planning to eat before the movie so we thought we'd give it a try one more time since there wasn't time to go somewhere else and come back. The place was not that crowded. We asked if there was table service and the waiter said yes. After 10 minutes, my husband decides to order at the counter. one hotdog and one salad. We had 40 minutes to go so there was enough time. (so we thought). It took literally 35 minutes for our "food" to arrive.
THE FOOD WAS SO LAME! I think they have someone run to 7-eleven get the "food" put it in a plastic plate and voila! That explains the food and the wait.
The place is totally understaffed. It is really a shame.
I agree with the reviewer that said it feels like an airport lounge.

Woohoo!  I love happy hour. They have a small menu but it was adequate to get a bite before the movie.

I had a glass of cava ($6) and a hot dog ($4.50). I appreciated the hot dog wasn't marked up even more for the "Wine Bar." It came on a nice plate with a spicy relish and a whole tray of condiment packets. I chose the spicy brown mustard to go with the relish. The hot dog was okay. It was juicy and I liked the bun. I was dreaming of a good brat with lots of onions and bell peppers. Oh well, I guess you can't get that sort of thing for only $4.50.

I ordered at the bar but they brought my hot dog to me. Nice decor. It was comfortable for groups.

Overall, it's not a bad place to hang out before the movie but I rather go downstairs to Westside Tavern.

Pretty great way to sit back and relax with a drink before your film. Because any film will be helped with you feeling a little loose and carefree. Even if the seating space is sort of limited. I mean, what's up with the slant in the back anyway?

Happy hour isn't all that great. You have some house wines/beers for sale. But if you're here, you might as well enjoy the wide selection of drinks they have going for them.

The food menu is pretty limited. They have some pizzas that are pretty tasty as well as a Hebrew National hot dog that is really huge and uses some pretty interesting bread. It's not often that you find a hot dog that, while big in itself, goes out shadowed by the size of the bun.

Yes, you heard me right. The bun is bigger than the weenie. Oh how that could lead to troubles. They give you a slew of mustards. Let me tell you in advance, do not cross the streams. You'll suffer from some massive heart burn later on.

Over all a top notch choice for a before movie drink and relaxation spot.

I can't really think of a better way to while away the time waiting to mosey to your reserved seat at a movie than with a glass of wine. Great relaxed loungy atmosphere here and pleasant servers. I especially dig the funky white leather half circle sofas in the corners against what always strikes me as looking like a space age bowling alley. Really, it's just a creative use of some an angled ceiling and dead space under the theatre above, but it works.

They've got an extensive selection of beer, wine and cocktails and more often than not, there's at least one special list (if not two or three) of themed cocktails to go with movies playing. The bar snack options aren't quite so varied, but the square personal pizzas aren't bad, and my personal pick, the plump $4.50 hot dogs served on a La Brea Bakery roll with a spicy sweet green chili laced relish, are delish. They just happen to go down quite nicely with the house pinot grigio, reasonably priced at $6 for a little carafe during Happy Hour.

For the smokers, or those who just want to enjoy some fresh air, there's a tiny balcony area lit by the red neon of the adjacent signage to slip away to.

My only complaints... limited food selection (which I hear they're presently working on to compete with the Tavern having moved in downstairs) and discovering without warning it's closed for a special event. So irritating. Those issues aside, however, this is a good little spot to hang. Dawson approved.

It is very nice. It really feels like a lounge. You can easily forget that you are in a movie theater. They have a good selection of wines. The couches are much more comfortable than the seats around the bar. It starts to  pick up around 7:30-8:00. Now if only my girlfriend liked wine like I do....

The neighborhood really needs a mellow bar to catch a drink and I was hoping this would be the one.  They've got a decent selection of wine and beer, however, the prices in the past have been movie theater ripoff.  I did check out their latest menu and noticed that they have a few more under $10 glass of wine options.  Beer seems to be a better bargain, but if it's on tap, their pour is small.  I haven't tried the food, but the selection seems only slightly better than the concession counter.

This place is absolutely the best way to wait for a movie. Really, it's so much better to buy a reserved-seat ticket and wait for the movie than line up outside.

The bar is pretty quiet (yay I can have a conversation!) and the atmosphere is just perfect. I love that they have displays where you can see how long it is until the next movie too.

Although the wine selection may not be the largest, I haven't had a bad one yet. But the wine can be expensive so when I'm tight on money I go for the beer! They have those large bottles (750ml I think?) of Belgian beers for around $10. I can split it with a friend and still get a little toasty.

This isn't really somewhere to get food. Maybe the salad or cheese isn't that bad, but I got one of those pizza things and it was, well, very after-school snack sort of microwaveness and wasn't the best. But since there are many tasty places to eat nearby I won't count it against them.

An adult tree house, complete with slanted ceiling, dark corners, and huge TV. Perfect place to get a mild buzz on before catching a flick at the Landmark theatre. My only gripe is the place is expensive. It feels criminal charging $15 for a glass of wine! I don't know how these people sleep at night. They had 2 petite syrahs on the list and I got the cheaper one, which was overly sweet.

They have some Happy Hour/movie specials which you'd want to plan accordingly to hit up. Also you can take your beverages in with you to certain films. All in all, cool idea if you're recession exempt.

Kind of like drinking at a bar in an airport or museum, this sterile, nicely lit bar is actually located within an arthouse multiplex, which itself is located within a shopping mall in West L.A. Difficult to describe the crowd because I've never seen more than ten people there. The architecture is very cool, the oak ceiling tapering to the floor on one end like an attic room, and the bar is supposedly a lounge for moviegoers, meaning you can just sit on a comfortable couch and watch sports on the big screen television while waiting for your movie to start and no one will bother you. The bartender we spoke with was both knowledgeable and friendly. As for drink selection, well, it's a wine bar, with a good list of bottled beers, including a full range of my favorite Unibroue ales, but nothing on draft. There's a fair selection of wine with an expansive price range; cheapest glass was $7, most expensive was $100, so, you know, whatever. I saw an appetizer menu as well, but no place for a kitchen, so I wouldn't risk it. Due to the fact that it's an attempt at an atmospheric lounge located within a multiplex that faces out onto escalators and a snack bar, this is possibly the worst bar in America to try to pick up women or socialize in any capacity, but if you absolutely have to get wasted before seeing an art film and you forgot to bring your flask, this will certainly do.

As an inauspicious beginning to this feature, we were unable to drink a second beer at this bar because it closes at 11 p.m. and the movie we intended to drink before and after, Errol Morris' documentary "Standard Operating Procedure," didn't get out until about 11:50. Incidentally, "Standard Operating Procedure" is absolutely the least enjoyable movie in the history of cinema to see with a light buzz.

I think it's a cop out to review this establishment since it's technically part of the Landmark, but whatever. I can always use another review under my belt.

"Religulous" was on the menu and so was the premium Belgian Ale; and some cheese to go with it!

We ordered 2 big bottles of Blue Chimay and the cheese plate. As usual, service, and quality of product were impeccable. "Mira que chingon, using big words, Impeccable!"  ;-)

Matthew was our server, cool cat, and the manager came by to our table to make sure everything was on the level, which it was. He even took one of our used plates. Nice.

    I. Love. The. Landmark.

So Pooja and I went here again yesterday and I need to reinforce the 5-star rating.  Sure we arrived 2 hours before they opened and were sitting on a sofa wondering why nobody was coming to take our order, but that was TOTALLY our fault.

So we hung out at the mall until 4pm when they open (this is essential).  We had the same waiter as last time.  He has super bionic hearing so don't say anything under your breath to him--he WILL hear you lol!

We discovered that it is only 10 bucks more to order an entire bottle of wine rather than two glasses which is what we got last time.  Make sure you get the cheese platter too it's delish!

We came here right after the movie it was funny because they were having a rotten tomatoes event and I was thinking I know the Yelp one will be better LOL.. Yes I am biased... So we had a glass of the Shiraz that was so tasty and then I asked them if they happened to have cheese and they did!! Yay!! The cheese went so well with the wine, the grapes were crispy and sweet, and the crackers put the finishing touches on a great cheese platter. I can't wait to hang out here again...

The atmosphere and the furniture are so modern sheik its sickening... Then there is a shag carpet that I personally have to have but then I would never be able to have any company (due to the maintenance) LOL...BUT Good Times nonetheless as always :)
