The Bay Area's very own Cha Cha Cha Cuba has spoiled me.
I visited this mom and pop with high hopes of a wonderful Cuban meal just like I have at home.
Wrong.
The yellow rice was instant - like Uncle Bens, avoid ordering that. The pork and the beef were embarrassingly dry. Too dry to eat. The meat in the empanadas was way too salty. We ordered so much food...and really didn't eat it.
We wound up leaving to have lunch poolside at our hotel. Hey, Ritz Carlton chefs know how to prepare food no matter what city you are in. We had to eat there because we didn't do it here.
The highlights for this mom and pop that earned them two stars?
The Tres Leches Cake was delicious!
The cuban cafe con leche - MMMMM. The Sangria was delightful!
Does that justfy the price we spent on food we didn't eat? No.
I cannot in good conscience recommend. I've had better. . . in my hometown. . . the Bay Are . . .San Francisco, one of the culinary capitals of the world.
We just love this place - great Cuban food, sweet staff, low prices. The ambiance feels like a Cuban restaurant out of the 50's which we like (but it's not intimate or trendy). Â The avocado salad is simple and good. The pork tamales (I forget what the Cuban term is) are to die for. The plantains are great, so is the flan. You really can't go wrong here.
