Dive bar far from Boston, but open late
I've been to the Last Drop a few times, as the bars half a mile up the road all close relatively early. We've gotten to this place earlier in the night (around 11pm) and the place would be DEAD. But then once people start filtering in after being kicked out of Devlin's and the Green Briar, it suddenly gets so packed you can barely move, and everyone just rushes up to the bar to try and get drinks. Would be a cool dive bar to hang out at regularly if the waves of patrons weren't so extreme.
One bulleit bourbon.
An Oak Square  haunt you alky.
High rise brick walls red/
This place is alright. Â Friendly. Local. Spacious. Â Large televisions. Â Darts. Pool tables. Â No judgement when you're a lady, all alone, ordering Bulleit bourbon. Â I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. Â But it is what it is in Oak Square. Â I've heard you can bring in your own food too.
Great bartenders and cheap drinks. They have pool and darts also. They don't have a kitchen but are fine with your ordering or bringing in whatever you want (which is nice because you don't have to settle for bar food like at other spots). The daytime and early evening is a mix of locals and professionals who work in the area. At night it is always a mix of locals (young and old), college students, after workout (YMCA) crowds and also after work professionals. They have a jukebox and a good choice of beers on tap. The Friday and Saturday nights bring out a lot of BC kids looking to party. There can be a line around midnight or later so get there early. The staff is warm and inviting. Stop by if you are in the Brighton area.
Review Source:So, it's Friday night and you are out in Brighton. Every where closes at 1am but you just want one more drink. The name says it all folks. Pool, Darts, Beers, Liquor. And they open until 2am.
I doubt anyone would even try to have a romantic date here, it's not that type of place. If you are drunk, or wanna get drunker, or plan on getting drunk, this is probably where you will end up for that 'Last Drop' in the Brighton area.
We went to check out the local watering hole this weekend and were pleased to discover 11 dollar pitchers of bud light. We also enjoyed the pool tables. We played four games of pool. The first game was between me and a friend. We were both a little rusty and had a good laugh at the shots we missed.
After the first game, a couple of burly looking lads came over and challenged up to some doubles. We play three games against them, winning the first two and then betting five dollars on the final match. It was close, but we lost by one ball! We were down five dollars but up a few new friends.
When I got home we watched X-files but I passed out in a rocking chair from all that beer drinking! Woof!
Plus sides: They have free darts, serve beer, and have a bathroom. If its raining outside you can seek shelter here...
Other than that this place should be near the bottom of your list on places to go. It is what it is, the Last Drop, your last option if nothing else is working. The people who work here are very nice however I went there once and would probably go elsewhere in the future.
There is only one reason to go to The Last Drop: to be served liquor and beer past 1AM in a city that starts closing at 11PM. The Boston bar scene is positively ridiculous, and probably run by some sort of Communist front. The Last Drop however has duly paid off all the bosses and dons, and remains open until 2AM.
I really like the bartenders, who manage to serve relatively quickly despite the mobs that come here in the closing hours. Everything else however, is gross, and it starts with the people. I had to physically remove my friend from a conversation with a hopelessly moronic, disturbingly trashy local harlot with a nose ring and at least four tattoos.
They have dartboards, a pool table, lots of seating. Unfortunately, the people making use of said amenities are less desirable than the contents of the bar rag...
This bar kind of sucks. There are very few options, but this is not a good one.
For me, the Last Drop goes from being oddly empty to being overly full with people I don't want to be in such close quarters with.
It is difficult to get a drink, sometimes there's a line (wtf?!), and the bouncers get a bit indignant for Washington Street in Brighton.
The bartenders are great... probably the nicest ones I know.... I can't say anything bad. They have even cut me off, and rightly so. Great service. Â BUT! The super creepy African American dude that rapes you with his eyes and his white counterpart ... eewww. Â You make me want to never go there again. Â Please just sit on your own couch and eye rape each other than make everyone else feel so uncomfortable. Thanks you.
Review Source:I dig it - As long as no one is hogging the only table. Nice place. The table tilts to the right in the beginning (as you approach it) and tilts to the left further back. Now that you know that, you won't have any problems. It's a great table otherwise.
Players from the Allston APA League plays here on some Tuesday nights.
Anybody who has been there more than once, will enjoy it. Â It's the last bar open in town, and always filled with a great group of people. Â It may be one of the best dive bars around because you know what you can expect from it. Â They never fail to deliver exactly what you want. Â Get there around 12 to get in and enjoy a nice little cheap nightcap before you go home for the night. Â Plenty of space lets you walk around in the bar. Â They could use a little extra room in the bathroom, but not a reason to pass by this place. Â Face it, after 1 in Brighton, the only places open are the Drop and Chinese Food. Â You pick.
Review Source:people who give the Last Drop a bad review are going there for the wrong reasons.  This is  a great local bar with a good selection of cheap drinks, and a great atmosphere AS LONG as you come before 12 and beat the rush of d-bag college students who come because it's the latest bar open in town.
free darts- lots of fun! and let's be realistic, what bar bathroom is really that great anyway?
Came here one night after another place closed down for the evening. It was the only bar open at the time that we knew about...that gives it a star.
Gross, gross ladies bathroom. "interesting" clientele (no offense, just not my crowd). Very old-seeming building (needs a facelift, but then again, perhaps the 'old' feel gives it some of its charm to certain people).
I mean, beer is beer, there was nothing wrong with it.
The very nice bartender actually earned a whole extra star for this place. She was very friendly and chatted appropriately with us.
Honestly, I probably won't go back here, as there are plenty other bars in Brighton that I like much more.
They don't allow dancing... 'nuff said. Â Seriously? Â You're the only bar open till 2am in Brighton, you have a juke box, and you don't allow dancing??? Â What will be next, no smiling? no laughing? no being drunk? Â Also, they don't like my boyfriend... one time, many many moons ago he got kicked out, and now they barely let him in... buuut I still find myself here at 2 am closing some weekend nights... oh last drop, why are you so tempting...
Review Source:Eh, it's good for what it is - total meat market with, as my friend says, your obligatory frat douchebags.
The bartenders are pretty fast and actually notice you standing there waiting for a drink - no complaints there. I much prefer to get there early, if at all, to miss the line that inevitably forms outside when all the other bars close and own the jukebox so as to avoid being subjected to Journey, Poison, etc. Â
That being said, I wouldn't wait in line to get in. It's just not worth it. Pool table is a little dilapidated, and the dart boards have had about as much use as a $25 ho.
It's a last resort sort of place. I'd give it 4 stars but usually by the time I end up at this place, the bouncer is not willing to let me in.
He's very consistent with me: lets in the girlfriend, but keeps me the eff out.
I think it's the result of an incident a few years back where I thought the best method of hitting on a drunk floozy girl was to kick her in the shin repeatedly until she acknowledged my existence. . .
I'm pretty sure it's the only bar in brighton open til 2am. The last drop is a dive bar - and doesn't pretend to be anything but that. You'll probably find a line outside the bar at 1am with lots of overly drunk people - and I'm probably one of them. Like people have said before in their reviews - cheap drinks, interesting crowd, darts/pool.
Review Source:A pool table and dart board are the highlights of this place...
Poor draft selection, entrenched end-of-the-bar patronage, dead zone in the middle of the room that isn't a dance floor, awkward seating arrangement, rough parking, poor lighting and a horrible view of Washington street from the narrow windows...
Unless every other bar in Boston has been raided and sacked by new wave prohibitionists... don't go here...
Not great. Not bad. CHEAP drinks. I've HEARD this is the bar to come to after Castlebar shuts down for the night, since The Last Drop stays open later. Rumor has it that it fills up with college kids pretty quickly come 1:30AM. Being an out-of-towner I didn't get to experience this aspect. The bar wasn't crowded at all that Thursday night and we stayed till closing. Met some nice people including one kid that spent his entire life in Western Mass up until now, when he moved to Brighton...and LOVES it. Buddy needs to do a little more traveling outside of his bubble if you ask me. Now living in Manhattan I wasn't too impressed with his story or the bar. It was very mediocre but served its purpose since we didn't want to venture far from my friend's that night. Cool, old school lamps though - reminded me of my kitchen when I was six.
Review Source:My only experience here was after a VERY boozed up, caviar and champagne black-tie gala under the Rotunda at the State House (I was a "guest of," that's the only way I got in THERE). Â I kept calling this place the Bottoms Up Club, after the bar in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. Anyway, took a cab to this place, (my "date" almost set the cab on fire w/the head of her cigarette, and burned a hole in her Alaia dress), and continued to get even more sauced, met a cool Woody Allan, Diane Keaton type couple from NYC (think ANNIE HALL), and then I woke up the next morning in a Regis dorm room. Â The girl was nice enough to drive me home (to Revere).
Review Source:Ended up here at the end of a "bar golf" night (yeah, maybe I don't remember eeeevery little detail..) because it was near my friend's apartment and serves later than most Boston area bars, which sometimes have a last call of before 1am.
Drinks were super reasonably priced, we were able to stay out a little later and while really crowded by the bar itself, they were doing a good job keeping the overall numbers to a comfortable number by not allowing too many people in-- even some of our friends had to wait for that very reason. The bouncers were even cool about letting my friend go outside when she "needed a minute" for some fresh air.
I'd love to go back for all of the above reasons-- Â maybe before the very end of a bar crawl so I can enjoy it longer!
I hate to give this place only 2 stars because I played pool with a bunch of the bartenders there and they hosted our group. But I have to say, it's not a great place. I doubt I'd go back there for any reason. I don't live close by and you have to take a bus (no T stop nearby) to get there. Though, there is a lot of parking on the street nearby.
I went on a weekday in the summer. From 7pm to 12am there were a total of 5 women who had at one point entered the bar. Everyone there seemed to be local 30/40something guys or 4 dudes who go to BC.
I don't blame the bar, but I had no cell reception on the entire block. Shame on you AT&T.
When we left, there were about 8 people waiting in line to get in: which would have doubled the number of people inside. There were a bunch of girls too. I'm still wondering what their motive was...
I like that there are dart boards and a pool table. The many flatscreens are good for watching the game, but that's all there is to this place. Not as cool as either of the bars in the two-bar-town I lived in in Maine. Sorry guys.
On a Saturday night it was just busy enough where I could very easily get a beer but not stumble over a tumbleweed getting to the bar. The service at the bar was quick and the beers are pretty cheap (you know, on par for a Brighton bar).
They have a juke box and so the music is always a lottery. You could be listening to something really great or crap Guns N' Roses. Personally I don't trust the musical tastes of lots of barflies so I usually decide to eff everyone over and play Men In Black seven times in a row. You will all suffer for making me listen to Poison, mmkay? My friend and I were very disappointed that our sweet lineup of Will Smith and C+C Music Factory never played. Kiss that three bucks goodbye!
Oh well. I had a great time, partially attributed to the bar, partially attributed to my friends.
When I lived in Oak Square, I could see the last drop from my apartment which meant I frequented it way too much. Â It is what it is, a dive bar with no food, pretty cheap beers and darts.
On weekend nights after 12 there is a line out the door since it's one of the only places anywhere open til 2. Â Like others said they let you bring in food if you want to eat. Â We ordered from Pizza Etc and New Hong Kong a few weeks ago and rounded up a few tables and a bunch of us had dinner. Â An extra star in my book. Â During the blizzard at the very beginning of '05 my roommates and I dug out of our house because we couldn't stand being there any longer and had some drinks at the Drop. Â Again, another star.
They remodeled but all I really notice is newer tv's, during the week this place is filled with locals and a few college kids or young professionals who live in Oak Square. Â Weekends it's filled with everyone already buzzed from being at another bar. Â You will definitely strike up random conversation with someone you may or may not want to talk to. Â All in all, not a terrible place.
The Last Drop's new brick interior, dart board, tiled floor, pool table and limited seating reminded me of what a scene at a bar in Kate Hudson's new Boston movie might look like. Â It's inviting and supposed to feel very Boston, but it's really just another generic renovated dive bar. Â
My friend just moved to the neighborhood and we stopped in for a quick drink after dinner. Â We were surprised at the slew of mid sized, middle aged, men hanging out at the bar. Â Maybe they were there to watch ESPN, make eyes with uninterested female patrons (read: us), or maybe they're just always there. Â
To be fair, it was only 8 PM on a Wednesday so there were only twenty or so people at the bar, but I have a feeling on the weekend, it would draw the same exact crowd as Harvard Ave. in Allston.
A friend of mine practically grew up here, watching the place go through dozens of names and renovations. Â According to him, back in the 80's there was even a little person playing piano on a raised surface near the ceiling. Â Now it's got a pool table, 2 dart boards, a few tables and no food--this is for boozer's only. Â Oh, and the ceiling over the bar is beautiful. Â Apparently , the last time they renovated the place, they found the original intricately carved ceiling panels and a sky light which, in the daytime, makes the place feel a lot less gloomy and more old fashioned.
An afternoon drink found the place quiet and the bartender chatting with some people at the end of the bar...and he stayed down there quite a while as we waited to order our next round. Â I hate it when a bar is dead and you can't get a drink. Â Yeah, I guess that's something unique about me.
Hepatitis? I think not.
I wound up here this past friday night after some impromptu drinks at Devlin's down the street. I was told this was the place all the drunks go when everything else closes because it's open til 2am. I was told it was sketchy, dirty and I had a good chance of catching some sort of venerial disease and that to not let my drink out of sight. Not the case. I've definitely found myself in divier joints over the past couple years, mostly with unfinished wood paneling and someone wearing a cosby sweater singing Mustang Sally.
We had to wait outside for a little while, not because of some sort of over capacity type reason, or fire code violation, but just because they probably don't want to shuffle 80 people out of there at the end of the night. They've got a jukebox and darts and the ladies' room was actually fairly clean and even had handsoap and paper towels! Impressive for 1:30 am.
The only real drawback, is that the place is filled with obnoxious donkeys, EVERYWHERE. I had one guy talking to me for a good twenty minutes who thought I had given him a fake name, but I got him to go play Prince on the jukebox and that made it ALL BETTER. If you can deal with having some swaggering, coors light slamming donkey peering with squinted eyes out from under a red sox cap...you'll be able to handle it.
This is probably the best neighborhood in the greater Boston area. Â The crowd is very friendly, the drinks are cheap, I always enjoy going here during the weekend. Â You can wear sweat pants if you want - its really relaxed. Â Lots of beers on tap and they serve mixed drinks as well. Â Its a great place to go when you don't feel like "going out." Â You will find a mixed crowd at The Drop - college students, young professionals, and townies as well, which makes The Last Drop a unique experience.
Review Source:i used to hit The Last Drop like a decade ago ... it was all Soundgarden on the jukebox all the time ... i tried to put a bit of Stevie Wonder in the queue there and they shut it off midway through ...
anyhow ... the appeal of the last drop from what i recall is that it's like the only bar in Boston that stays open late ... everyplace else is closed at like 11 due to the general lameness of the city ... so, you can count on The Last Drop to be open w/ some pool, darts, beer, music ... and then the place gets jammed w/ people from 10:30 or 11 on until 1 or 2 ...
it's a good time if you can drop down a bit ... sort of put that thinking cap on the hook ... get a buzz going and enjoy { or not }
Oh, the Last Drop. Â Cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, pool, darts. Â I love the place. The managers are usually walking around, making sure people are having a good time. Â The crowd varies, but everyone on Washington St. makes their way to the Last Drop late in the night because the other bars close so early. They don't have any bar food, but the bartenders are happy to let you bring food in or have it delivered!
Spring 06 update: The LD just remodeled! Same great service, spanking new features.
