I've been to the Lazy Dog on two occasions. Once, we sat at the bar and got drinks and food. Out of the 3 plates we got, all of them were beyond greasy, even for what I expect pub food to be. I also wouldn't order another draft beer here because I suspect they don't clean out their lines on a regular basis. The beers were cloudy and had a film. The second time I went, I went on a Friday night with a friend for drinks. The place was packed and this time I stuck with mixed drinks so my experience was much better. There was a live band that was good. They appealed to kind of a middle age rock-and-roll crowd which isn't exactly my style but was fun for a change. Fun environment and I've never been disappointed in service. I've heard it rumored that ownership changed between my two visits so I'd be willing to try the food again.
Review Source:This review is aimed directly at the owner of the lazy dog. Â The food was ok and the waitress was ok. Â My friend and I attempted to use your pool table tonight. Â We gave the waitress our credit card/ID and we were given the pool balls. Â We proceeded to the table and took the pool cover off. Â I put the cover in between two tables next to the pool table. Â This was literally what any person would do. Â You then rudely challenged me very aggressively saying "don't you know what you're doing, Haven't you done this before"? Â You continued berating me calling me a kid and telling me to go somewhere else to drink and I figured that was enough, so I returned the pool balls. Â I figured you were just some regular who had too much to drink and thought you owned the place. Â Turns out you were the owner who was just having a "bad night" (as the waitresses said). Â That is pretty bad. Â I live down the street and will never go here again. Â I WILL go somewhere else to drink (and I urge others to do the same). Â If 28 years olds aren't your clientele that is fine. Â I will drive by this place to go some place farther so that I don't give you another dime of my money. Â Congratulations.
Review Source:I will never visit this place again. I recommend not using credit cards. My girlfriend and I went there on August 20th, and I made the mistake of using a credit card to pay for my portion of the bill. They overcharged my credit card even though they rang it for the correct amount at the bar. Now, I'm having a claim put again them for fradulent charges. Not to mention the food was horrible.
Review Source:The Food, average at best.
The staff, some friendly a lot aren't, specially at the bar!
The atmosphere, This one come in two stages. First during the week days it's mainly work crowd. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights this is one sketchy place. I would say that if you aren't of Anglo descend it can be pretty hostile.
Not a place that I would recommend nor would I ever return to.
Pantherfoodcritic.
I should preface this review by saying that my wife and I would probably be described as  "yuppie-types".  I'm not generally a fan of dive bars and pub food. That said, I seriously think this place makes the best burger I've had in this town.  Ive been here with my wife a couple dozen times and have great experiences with the food and service.  Most of the time we're here around dinner time on the weekdays, so we miss the real drinking crowd.  I totally understand why some reviewers call this place a dive, but I don't know, I just like it. Seriously, the food and service are wicked good.  Check it out.
FYI, Â there is another place in town called The Westender that is operated by the same people. Â It's got a nicer vibe (remember, I'm kinda snooty:), but the same exact menu as the Lazy Dog. Â Check that out instead if you think it might be more your speed.
Went in for lunch with a friend. Â I had a great burger, my friend had a perfectly cooked steak, rice and broccoli. Friendly wait staff (they checked to make sure my fries were not used in the same vat a shellfish! i skipped because they were but checking on that without me asking after I said I had a shellfish allergy get them the 4th star).
Waiter was funny and not obtrusive or obnoxious. Â We didn't have to flag him down for refills. Â There were a few people in (about 2:30 pm) but it was a late lunch. Â I'm not into the bar scene but if I am running errands and want to stop in for a bite to eat somewhere, they are on my short list in this area.
I've never had a problem with rude staff - but - i'm also not going as a bar patron.
Horrible. Seriously. Woman serving drinks was rude and they were out of the beer I wanted. Fellow bar patrons were sketchy. Overall, place felt skeevy and unwelcoming. I will avoid it at all costs. Type of place were you might get roofied if you leave your drink unattended. Also, a member of the kitchen staff seemed to be hanging out in a doorway leering at the female patrons (maybe I'm just flattering myself here..).
That all being said, there were two respectable enough looking young ladies there enjoying some wine and an app, so maybe this place has some appeal that I'm missing.
This place is somewhat misleading. Â It's dark, sometimes there are interesting people at the bar but it's honestly harmless. Â And the food is fantastic! Â And reasonably priced. Â The kitchen will basically make anything you want - you can request any changes to the menu items you want. Â If they have the ingredients, they'll do it!
Review Source:This place still, to this day, makes me so mad I want to just punch a baby.
I also would like to add that on their menu there is a "Big Mac" style burger and I quote directly off the menu "One big ass beef pattie". Â Could you possibly get any classier? Â
The bathrooms always reek of urine too. Â It is to the point where I would rather hold it in until my bladder burst then risk going in those bathrooms.
I did not eat here.
Only had a beer at the bar and I don't think i'll be rushing back. The bartender was nice enough but the clientelle was a little... dodgy. I know it's bad to base a review on one dude sitting next to you at a bar but this dude pretty much sucked.
He was coughing up a lung, eating a really smelly cheese burger and then proceeded to tell me that he thinks all cell phones should be banned at bars. ya dude - good luck with that.
Either way - i'm not gonna be rushing back. His burger smelled terrible.
You know, I just don't understand the attitude of management here. Â Some of the staff is friendly but the overall attitude stinks. Â I suppose they do enough business that they can afford not to care, but that's a shame.
Go to Sully's. Â They are charming and wonderful at Sully's. Â Or Welly's or The Prospector or Cozy Cafe (which I still haven't been to so...) or anywhere else really.
I can walk to Lazy Dog in a minute or two from my house ON FOOT (I'm that close), and I still don't go anymore. Â It's not worth my energy.
Lazy Dog is a decent bar out in Marlborough (there aren't many) with mediocre food. Â The following are sights you may see on a given night:
- Mostly locals, mostly men, drinking giant beers
- Pregnant ladies outside smoking
- Pregnant ladies inside drinking
- Lots of people who take karaoke a little too seriously
- The lack of a parking spot...For some reason that lot is ALWAYS full
This place is definitely lacking in some things but they have IPA on tap and decent service so I guess I'm somewhat satisfied when I've come here.
I and some friends have been going here on and off for after work drinks and food. The place is divided into a restaurant area (which I haven't sat in) and a bar area.
The bar is casual, kind of dark, but always seems to get a decent crowd and has a good energy. Quite a few TV's around the place to catch sports on.
They have several dartboards with a nice setup, and have at least one league night weekly, and I think people come in for other events as well.
Beer selection is limited, but the menu is pretty good and their bar food so far has been above average. Service usually very friendly as well.
Really like it for a casual place to hit with friends, though wouldn't pick it for a nicer dinner place or date
I certainly don't like this part of the bill:
Greygoose 6.75
On the Rocks 2.25
Mad pricey for being in the burbs. Rocks costs two bucks!!! Shall I bring my own rocks next time? I'll give them credit for being a decent pour; but still!!
Other than that, the service was attentive. Periodically checking up on us and smiling.
I had buffalo wings to go along with my 2 dollah rocks. The sauce was pretty tasty and good kick. The wings itself was decent in size but I'm not fond of my wings having cooked blood in the meat. It annoys me when I see purple; but I still ate it.
The manager's crappy attitude keeps us away from the Lazy Dog... Sure, the food is good, but his lack of customer appreciation is outstanding. Â When you walk in the door it feels like - leave your money - or leave; Â it's really too bad - 'cause the staff works hard and deserves better.
Review Source:My wife and I were in the Marlborough area this past Saturday, and decided to stop here for a few pints and dinner. Â Considering that it seemed our choices were an Italian joint, the Ninety Nine and this place, I think we made a good choice (especially since we weren't in the mood for Italian).
I, too, wish they had an increased beer selection, but I settled for some Sam Octoberfest. Â I started with a quite nice Caesar Salad (which featured diced red onions... not a bad touch) and my wife had a delicious French Onion Soup. Â She had a Pulled Pork Sandwich, and I had a Bar-B-Q platter with 2 big ol' beef ribs, a grilled breast of chicken basted with sauce, and 3 barbecue shrimp. Â Along with some mighty fine fries, it was a very nice dish.
The service couldn't have been better.... we had a nice waitress, and being a Red Sox fan, it was nice having someone with a Boston accent wait on us. Â So, if we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely go there again. Â And if you're a local and haven't tried it, get your fanny over there.
