It was my month 8/3/13 to take Jodi out on our monthly date night. I searched on the internet for places outside of Duluth, and Ledge Rock Grille came up. The reviews looked outstanding, so I looked at their website and was very impressed. They have their menu online, showed pictures of their dining room, and I saw a link that caught my interest about eating at the Chef's Table. I had to call to get more information.

When I called Ledge Rock Grille, the staff worker was very helpful while explaining the Chef's Table. It's a six-course meal that the chef puts together himself, and it's a personal way to show their skills that is different than what's on the menu. While at the Chef's Table, the chef interacts with you during the courses. The price to sit at the Chef's Table is $75.00 per person. For the experience, I thought it would be worth it.

He mentioned that, since I'm in a wheelchair, the counter will be too high to sit at the Chef's Table. He said its close to five feet in height, but they would accommodate me with a table close to the Chef's Table. Before we hung up, he asked if there was anything else that they should know about, like food allergies or any other accommodations. That really impressed me a lot. They made me feel that our needs were a priority, and they valued us as a customer.

When we arrived for our reservation, handicapped parking was good. The outside of the Lodge was clean and inviting. We brought my standard size wheelchair. The doorway was wide enough, but my bigger wheelchair may not fit. Inside the Lodge, it was clean and warm. The staff welcomed us with smiles and asked if we needed help.

When we got to the restaurant area, we were greeted kindly by the hostess, but we weren't asked if we had a reservation. I thought they knew, because I made sure that the reservation had that I was in a wheelchair. But, I had to mention it to the hostess. Going into the dining area, the tables were close together. So, I would have had a problem getting through, but the staff moved the tables without hesitation. It may have been a problem, if the tables were full.

The hostess sat us at a table near the Chef's Table. I did go up to the actual Chef's Table seating, and the counter was too high for a wheelchair. So, I am glad that they accommodated me. To be honest, I think I would rather sit at a table than the high bar stools, they would possibly get uncomfortable during a six-course meal.

Our chef for our dinner was Chef Alex. He came over to our table, introduced himself, and explained his menu for the night. Then, our waitress came over and explained about having a wine pairing with each meal for an extra $19.00, which I did.

Even though Jodi and I enjoyed everything on the menu, we did have some favorites. We both enjoyed the bacon-wrapped scallops the most. They were so good and cooked perfectly. The rack of lamb was very good as well. It was not in a marinade, but seasoned and grilled very well. The raspberry sorbet in champagne was very refreshing, but their famous S'mores cake was a great dessert to end the dinner. It was warm and gooey, just like a real S'more.

On the way out, the staff moved the tables, so I could get through. And, they were all kind to us during our visit. And, when going past the front desk, they were kind and friendly, saying thanks for visiting. We felt that our needs were taken care of, and we were treated as a priority as a guest. It was very personal.

A great meal! My girlfriend and I were looking for a place where fish/seafood was available and found this place on Yelp. We started with the wonton appetizer (delish) and she had shrimp tacos while I had the crab stuffed rainbow trout. Great flavor, great service: what a wonderful evening and we haven't even had dessert!

    1.  Location was private, clean, and modern.
    2. Our server was so attentive to us.  She had tried the food, so she was able to describe it well, and I could trust her opinion.  (I love it when servers can actually give an opinion about the food other than "it's good").

    3. The food was delicious.  I had the seafood puff pastry and my hubby had the seafood cannelloni.  Both had very good portions.  The vegetables were done well, my rice side had a nice light citrus flavor, and the seafood was incredibly tender.  The butter sauce in the puff pastry was perfect.  The cannelloni was nice and mild with quite a helping of cheese.

Overall, worth having at least a couple meals here while in town.

I give them 5 stars not only because the food was good but the staff is amazing.  The walleye eggs Benedict was on point!! The bar had a great selection of wine. the scotch selection was lacking but everything was good. I would go back again!!

My husband and I stayed in the cottages for an extended weekend.  Our first morning there, we decided to eat breakfast at the restaurant and had a wonderful meal.  I had the Ledge Rock Benedict (with pancetta!  yum!!!) and my husband had the Apple Jack.  Both were beautifully presented, which was something I did not expect.  Delicious!  Our server was attentive and nice.

We went back for Friday night dinner and again had a nice, attentive and knowledgeable server who answered our questions and had great recommendations.  I had the evening's special trout and my husband had the filet mignon.  Again, beautiful presentation and both delicious meals.  My husband had ordered his meal medium rare and it arrived medium, but he said it was still pretty good.  There was a nice wine selection (although quite overpriced - we discovered the wine we picked costs less than half in a shop) and our server was clearly knowledgeable and probably had tasted most of the wines herself.  We had the Irish Creme Mouse Cake for dessert - also good.  It is a bit pricey, but both experiences there were positive.  I would recommend trying it!!

One other note - if you are hoping for a quiet meal, do not go during prime hours.  It gets very loud when it fills up.  Seated at the table next to us was a woman with a loud voice who insisted on talking non-stop, then in came a large party that was seated in the middle.  The restaurant is pretty with a vaulted ceiling, but sound is bounced everywhere.

A little pricey, but unique dishes and an exquisite wine list. Just like any other building at Larsmont, the restaurant had a great view of the lake. Our servers were always on top of things and accommodated my silly requests. I only wish they offered breakfast during the week.

I can't give it 5 stars....that to me would be perfect. The ledge rock has two things counting against it.  Its not in Duluth and its harder to find.  Tourist....listen....really listen....if you want one of the best meals and service go to the Ledge Rock Grille.  My wife raves about the Huli Hulii chicken.  I on the other hand have had several things on the menu.  The sockeye salmon is fantastic, the risotto scallops dish was near perfect.  Oh yeah and its a resort, very nice place to stay, the best up the shore and only 20 minutes from Duluth.

Once upon a time, "fine dining" in Two Harbors meant a visit to Dairy Queen. These days, with a smattering of posh resorts for the 'visit Lake Superior' and 'get away for a night Duluthian' crowds, dining has been elevated to an entirely new level.

The Ledge Rock Grill is the house restaurant for the Larsmont Cottages, a 40 acre enclave on the shores of Lake Superior, "inspired by a Scandinavian fishing village". The Ledge is open for lunch and dinner seven days, as well as breakfast on the weekends, and is open to the public at all times (in other words, you do not have to be a guest of the cottages to partake).

Serving "modern American", chef Todd Torricer, who has Hawaiian roots, also offers monthly special menus, and the August theme features "inspired by the sea".

Minnesota lead Burger Reporter Kawikamedia took a couple nights off from burgers, to check out a few menu items at the Ledge. Having lived in Hawaii, his intention was to check out the Huli Huli chicken, but alas, it was not offered the night of his first visit.

He started with the smoked shrimp appetizer with a dried cherry balsamic, and then went with the Kobe flatiron, served with parsnip mashed and asparagus, a bargain at $31.

His second visit was more successful, and described the seared Ahi, from the special August menu, as "out of this world". The plate was Fresh Pacific Ahi Tuna pan seared and paired with avocado puree, sushi rice tater tots and finished off with a wasabi-soy butter sauce.

The Huli Huli chicken was very good, (if you don't know Huli Huli, it is a traditional Hawaiian barbecued chicken, with a sauce made from soy sauce and ketchup, sweeting with brown sugar and a bit of sherry.

He didn't care for the side mash that night, which he described as "must have been doused in liquid smoke."

Kawikamedia highly recommends the Ledge, despite the fact there is no burger on the dinner menu!

Knowing that I like interesting places to eat, a co-worker of mine recently suggested that I try a place called the Ledge Rock Grill, which is a small restaurant about 25 miles north of Duluth and a part of the Larsmont Cottage Resort.   Once I found the place, I was instantly impressed by the restaurant's "details" - details like Chef Todd who is from the Big Island (yes, I am not the only person who was crazy enough to leave Hawai`i for Northern MN), like the fact that they offer a six course Chef's Table that sits you right up at the kitchen counter and changes daily and the fact they do periodic Chef tours whereby Chefs from MPLS and other places come there to "play" in a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere.  As for the food itself - it is solid, very solid.  Among my favorites are the Asian Ribs (which is plated as a lettuce wrap cupped in Boston Lettuce), the French Onion Soup (which had a deep rich flavor and the perfect crust on the cheese); the Cedar Plank Salmon (which was perfectly cooked and topped with a light sweet soy glaze); and the crème brulee sampler (which was perfectly sized and perfectly glazed).  Aside from the food, I really like the fact that the staff and the chefs really believed in what they were serving (i.e. when they tell you something is good, it's because they really like it themselves).  To me, it gives you a degree of confidence in what's on the menu and shows you that the staff cares about what they are serving you.  To that end, I would highly recommend the Ledge Rock Grill for anyone coming this way....

Insiders note: October is Hawaiian month and the Chef offers a great island menu.
Insiders note 2:  The place offers a frequent dinner card whereby you earn points for discounts on food and stays at the cottages.
