To quote Tool, this place is the way, the truth, and the light. Â I go about once a week to Lewis'. Â The food is consistently good. Â I recommend the OJ and Vodka, and the wings. Â One note- do not order any of the specials. Â Paradoxically, the specials are usually the worst offerings. Â Also the Keno guy in the front bar is a real SOB. Â The numbers played always come out the round after you stop playing.
Review Source:This place is a dump, a dive, a joint, a Mecca for drunks and gambling addicts. When we went in the front door I immediately recognized the odor of cheap disinfectant and day-old barf, where someone had upchucked near the front door. To the right were decent looking tables but that room was dark, apparently not open.
Going into the bar on the left I noticed an older guy on a stool in sort of a wooden cage with a sturdy door that could be closed tight. Apparently he was some sort of cashier, who stayed protected in this wooden cage, probably with a baseball bat or shotgun within easy reach for someone not wanting to pay his/her check. I was in a good mood so I said, "Hi" to the guy. In return I got the most rude stare, as if to say, "What the f... are you doing in here?" He reminded me of a "screw" in an old prison movie.
My wife and I managed to grope our way into this extremely dark, probably dirty place and gave our order to a pleasant waitress. The wife had the wedge salad and finished it all, liking it very much. I ordered the Texas Burger and proceeded to eat one of the best burgers I've had in 9 states and 3 foreign countries. The onion rings were very good but a little greasy for me.
Next time I want a real burger I'll call for pick up and either hold my breath or hope the front door area is cleaner and smells better. I would never bring my kids in there.
Grew up in Norwood, but have only been here twice (both within the past year) and both times, I just had drinks so I can't judge their grub. As far as drinks, I loaded up on OVC's, freshly squeezed orange juice, 'nuff said. Next time I go in, I'll make sure to try the Lewis burger (Along with a healthy amount of OVC).
Review Source:Fresh squeezed oj with vodka, you bet I'm a fan. Good thing I don't live close otherwise I'd be in trouble.
I went alone and besides the bartender, I was the only other female. A bunch of guys, most of them alone or on their lunch break at the bar.
I tried the famous Lewis burger. A perfect combination with the oj and vodka.
A burger with egg salad and ham, who would of thought?!
I will definitely get this combination again next time I'm in the area.
Went here because this place came up on my search on Yelp for best burgers near Canton!!! Can happily say that my family and I walked out feeling extremely satisfied with our meat craving. Â Wow, incredible flavor...I happen to be a fan of well cooked burgers which I know a lot of folks disagree with me because it may be a little rubbery at times. However, even the well done 8oz patty made by a blend of angus, rib eye, and chuck meat was packed with flavor and juices that dripped on the side of fingers every time I took a bite. Â Drooling just thinking about it!!! Â The outside of the joint looks uninviting but once you get in and their friendly staff take care of you, I'm you won't be dissapointed. Â Can't wait to revisit this place. *Breakfast on Sundays only I beleive.*
Review Source:Lewis' is one of the great dive bars in New England, an institution. Â I have been coming there since 1975, and I always make time to visit whenever I am in town. Many great nights with family and friends. Two of my buddies met their wives in Lewis'. (OK, no wise comments; they are very nice women, with fine families.) Â And the crowd, including the old regulars, is very sociable; it's a very good place to watch a game. Â Concur with others - go to the front bar; the back is OK if they have a decent band, but that's not why one goes to Lewis'.
The Lewis Burger should be in the burger hall of fame. Â I don't know how someone decided that egg salad would taste good on a burger with ham, lettuce and tomato, but it works! Â The chicken wings are also great. Â They are not spicy - just good breaded chicken perfectly fried, with a huge portion of fries in the basket, as well. Â (And the fries are awesome.) Â Quite honestly, that's all I've ever eaten at Lewis', but if you are on to somehting good, why change?
True story: Â I was in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia about 15 years ago. Â I was at the American Embassy for meetings before we headed out into the country. Â While at lunch, one of the Embassy workers overheard a conversation I was having about the Red Sox, and told me that he was originally from Norwood. Â I replied, "I love Lewis'." Â About two weeks later I was back in the Embassy and I bumped into the same guy. Â He looked at me and said, "I am so pissed off at you." Â I asked "why?" He replied: Â "Because since we talked the last time, all I have been able to think about is eating a Lewis burger, and I can't have one!"
I went here for the first time this past weekend with my husband and sat on the restaurant side. Â I was really impressed! Â We ordered buffalo tenders and tater tots for an appetizer and it would have been enough food for a whole meal for us both. Â Any place in New England with tater tots is automatically a leg up in my book as tots seem to be really hard to come by around here. We had ordered dinner entrees - my husband got the pepperoni pizza and I got the lamb burger special. Â My burger was amazing - one of the only places I have actually had a burger cooked the way I asked for it since moving out to the suburbs. Â I got coleslaw for my side - it's made daily in house; it was light and delicious. Â The service was good, but I was really impressed with the food.
Review Source:I finally made it to Lewis' the other night. Yes, the entrance door is a bit shady, but was very happy with my experience there. My nephew got the chicken tender basket & I got a wrap with their onion strings. Let me tell you, the best onion rings we have ever had. My waitress was a sweetheart as well. Planning on going back on a saturday night to check out the bar scene. I hear it gets a good crowd....for this area.
Review Source:Disappointed. Unaware that it's a 'seat yourself' restaurant, we stood there, ignored, for a minute. The waitress was extremely inattentive. We waited an uncomfortably long amount of time before she came over to take our food order. The chicken tenders were on the dry and tough side. The fries had zero flavor and cooled off too fast. It was like pulling teeth trying to get the waitress' attention for the entire 'check' process from start to finish. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the trivia was the only redeeming factor of this experience.
Review Source:Lewis's is pretty much a Norwood staple. It's been around since before the 40s and it features some great, affordable food options alongside some cold drinks. Whether you want to grab a cold one and a snack or feast on one of their famous burgers, there's something for everyone. One thing that does help them stand apart from other bars though is their OVC cocktail: an orange vodka collins which features some freshly squeeze OJ. It's amazing.
While I have yet to return and try one of their famous burgers, on the other hand, I've had their buffalo chicken bar pizza ($10.50) which was great and had a nice kick and featured all of the appropriate accoutrements including scallions and gorgonzola. I also had a size of tater tots ($3.50) which I split with the girlfriend as well.
The place itself is very well maintained and is spacious. There's multiple rooms and I believe that there's two bars? I'm not 100% sure, the layout was a bit weird but the place is pretty busy with locals and everyone seemed to have a good time. We sat at the bar and the service was friendly.
I do intend on returning at some point soon and try their famous steak tips (they have 5 different kinds!) or maybe a burger instead. But if you're looking for a spot with reasonably priced, American food or to grab a beer, or both, this is the spot. And they also host Stump Trivia every Tuesday. Personally, they converted me when I saw the barkeep squeeze the OJ to my order of the OVC. Awesome touch.
I LOVE Lewis'! Â We've lived in Norwood for about 2 years and Lewis' is my favorite local restaurant. Â They have the BEST steak tips and at their prices are very reasonable. Â When we go we always go to the restaurant side and not to the front bar side. Â There is also a quieter bar on the restaurant side and a little lounge area and lots of t.v.s. Â We often order take-out from here too! Â Love the blue cheese wedge salad and the ceasar salad. Â I always get steak tips with them and as a little added bonus (when getting it as take-out) Lewis' always separates the steak tips with tin foil so that the salad doesn't get wilted and hot from the cooked tips on the way home. Â I hate when places put hot steak or chicken right on top of the salad when getting take-out because then you have hot lettuce by the time you get it home.
I just read some of the other reviews and I wanted to clear something up because someone not familiar with Lewis' could get easily confused by reading the reviews here. Â There is the front bar off to the left of the front door and, yes, it's a dive type bar. Â There seems to be a certain amount of nostalgia associated with the front bar as I believe it was the "original" Lewis'. Â At some point they (I don't know when) expanded and opened the restaurant side (and as I stated above also has a bar towards the back) which looks like a regular restaurant and it is family friendly.
We just moved to Norwood (from Boston--yeah, you heard that right). We've been to Lewis' on two consecutive Friday nights 'cause it's minutes away from our new place.
Both times we skipped the front bar 'cause it was packed. Reading about the pics of topless ladies from the other reviews, though, makes me feel like I missed out.
Anyhow, we had an excellent experience both times. The food is simple, but fresh and good. Go ahead and eat the Lewis burger--it's worth it.
I'm a bit service-obsessed and even on a busy Friday, the service was impeccable. Lewis' makes me glad I moved to the 'burbs.
We walked in to the dining room area and were immediately seated. Â The waitress was extremely friendly and quick with our drink orders. Â Their fall drinks are really delicious!
We ordered the buffalo chicken potato skins which were really really good and I had the chipotle steak tips. Â Everything was so delicious. I will definitely go back again!
OK, it's kinda sketchy from the outside...
And, OK - it's even more sketchy inside - I mean they've got a guy in a box for god's sake!
It's OK, he's contained. Â You can turn your back on him and order your OVC or Lewis burger. Â Sorry, egg salad is one of the things I'll never get past, but my Wing Ding burger was perfect!
Good drinks, Dogfish on tap, paintings of nekkid wimmin and usually someone'll strike up a conversation with you. Â Sounds good to me!
This is the townie bar to end all townie bars......
The food is always decent and the drinks are cheap. I like the Lewis Burger and OVC's. And I have to mention that they make a pretty killer grilled cheese. If you are looking for a cheap buzz OVC's are the drink for you. I go to the back bar because the music is usually good and it's roomy. I don't feel like I've been shoved into a sardine can. Â If you are looking to chat up some sketchy old men sit at the front bar. Oh, and keep an eye out for pics of naked ladies.
However, if you are looking to fly under the radar and not run into some random person you went to NHS with....don't go here.
Townies, townies, and more townies. My high school reunion was held here. I'm pretty sure it's because most of the people that I graduated with are there every night anyway. If you're a fellow Mustang and you're happy with having forgotten about those a-holes that roamed the hallways of NHS, avoid this place at all costs. If, however, you want to go in and see how bloated and pathetic those same a-holes have turned out to be (just like you knew they would), head on over. It's hilarious.
Review Source:I work near Lewis's and have been going there for lunch for years.  Initially I found it because of a "dining for miles" promotion, which they've since abandoned, yet I continue to be a patron.  I always sit at the back bar, which seems to be where all the locals and regulars congregate.  It is dark enough that on bright days you're blind when  you enter, until your pupils have time to adjust.  As many have said, the lewis burger is a must-try.  It's a funny sounding mix, but it tastes great.  The steak tips are another solid choice, and they have good burgers, pizza, and sandwiches.  Lately they have had a stuffed quahog special which is delicious!  The bartenders are always very friendly, and still welcome you back with open arms after you've had one too many on  your last visit.  (don't ask me how I know this..)  The fresh squeezed orange juice and movies at lunch are a nice touch, too.
If you're in the area, give it a try. Â Emily and the rest of the staff will make you feel like you're a regular in no time!
Do you like EGG SALAD and BACON CHEESEBURGERS? Â Me too! Â I like it even better if the egg salad is right on top of said cheese burger with canadian bacon. Â That's what you get when you order the Lewis Burger. Â Do you like BOOOOOZE? Â Me too! Â Fresh squeezed OJ and Vodka by the pint. Â Do you like paintings of NUDE WOMEN coming out of BEER BOTTLES? Â Walk in the door and look at the walls: Â Feast your Eyes!!! Â Do you like GRIZZLED OLD MEN? Â Me neither! Â That's why I rated it only 4 stars!
Review Source:Order an OVC, you won't be disappointed. Â Vodka, orange juice, sour mix, and a splash of soda water I believe? Â Whatever it is, it is amazing.
Another must try is the Lewis Burger, regular cheeseburger with egg salad. Â Sounds gross, but it is yummy!
Enjoy the view of the topless women paintings on the wall as you sip your ovc and nibble your Lewis Burger
This is a true Lewis's story - at least I choose to believe it. A guy hadn't been in to Lewis's for about 7 years. He goes in one night and sits at the bar. After he orders a beer, an old guy he recognizes from the "old days" comes out of the Men's Room and sits down beside him. The old dude lights up a smoke, looks over at him, and says "So like I was sayin,' " and starts talking. Old dude recognized him and though that he had been there all along. Now That's a regular. Burgers are good, fries are huge orders - split one.
Review Source:This is my favorite bar to watch a Sox or Pats game. Â The bar side is great with its dark decor, 48 star flag and of course the paintings. Â The poor guy in the Keno box never seems happy though.
They have an extensive menu of typical bar food and I usually get the chicken finger basket (let it cool down for 10 minutes) or cheeseburger. Â Last time I had the pastrami and it was great. Â They make good mixed drinks and you have to order at least one OVC while you are there. Â The big mother is also a good food choice but I'm not a fan of the Lewis burger.
Plenty of tv's and a large projection screen to enjoy sports. Â The crowd varies throughout the day with a typically older crowd until 7-8pm. Â There are times I've gone in and it is just me and the bartender and others when you can't find a seat.
The other side is the restaurant and bar where you can sit with a family and enjoy a good meal and catch sports on the large plasmas.  The bar  is good and they have an area for private parties or to just hang out on the couches and chairs.  They have live music in this part as well.
This is the only places I've ever seen the fresh squeezes the OJ for your drinks? Have I had the food? No. I would be willing to try though. The bar is fun is a dive bar sort of way and the drinks are well poured and quite enjoyable. Went here on St. Patrick's day and have been back many times since.
(Mind you, I've never had the food, but the bar is great!)
Go straight into the bar, you will not be disappointed. Â Order a screwdriver with your choice of premium vodka and the fresh squeezed OJ that is out of this world. Â Try not to ogle the 70s style paintings of the topless chicks that adorn the wall, as you and your friend split the "Mother Lewis" which is the classic Lewis burger but DPDPMD Â (double the portion, double the price, minus a dime). Â It is served on sliced bread toasted on the grille instead of the roll that the regular Lewis Burger comes on, and that makes a world of difference.
For those that don't know, the Lewis Burger is a grilled beef patty, lettuce, ham, and a bit of egg salad (other descriptions earlier are off the mark or are of some other burger they might offer). Â I thought that it was going to be gross, but I have a friend (the Coach) who swears by them, and knowing he rarely steers me wrong, I tried it. Â It is now a must stop on my way to Boston.
This is yet another reason not to be excited about Norwood, Massachusetts. Lewis's in two words is quite simply ' not good'. If you want to go to a OK bar with OK prices and an OK mix of a crowd, Lewis's IS OK for that. But please, don't bother traveling all the way to Norwood for the so called famous Lewis Burger. This is a major let down. The Lewis Burger in theory is awesome, it's a burger topped with a fried egg and bacon - yeah should be the best but it just fails to deliver. I went there for Sunday afternoon football last weekend and the place was so not abuzz or in a good mood or even paying attention to the games, what a waste of gas. Oh well, like I said - just one more reason to forget about Norwood, Massachusetts.
Review Source:Lewis' is an old men's bar that has successfully transitioned into modern times. For years they didn't even have a sign out front and only the locals even knew about the place. They expanded about ten years ago and went through a succession of ideas with varying results. The current Lewis' is great! It still maintains the old charm but the new area has comfortable seating areas, the required assortment of large TV's tuned to the various games and LIVE MUSIC on weekends. There's a sign out front and the facade looks very hip and tasteful.
Note that the menu in the "old" part is different than in the new (seperate kitchens). The famous Lewis Burger (once rated Boston's Best) is only available in the old bar.
