The wife, her friend, and myself stopped here for dinner. Â As usual, my wife made splitting dishes an obligation (the virtues of which I am increasingly recognizing).
General Thoughts:
This place is sort of a new hole-in-the-wall, except it's not tiny - and it's not really new. Â Apparently the entire kitchen crew moved here about two months ago from another place in town, Seaside Thai & French, where they'd been for a few years.
The French food was outstanding, the meats were perfectly cooked, the sauces savory but not greasy or overwhelming. Â No one flavor dominated the others - just a nice harmony for your taste buds. Â We didn't try any of the Thai food, but I assume it's good too; the two cooks are from Thailand. Â Actually, what we learned from talking to the host (Noy), was that the head cook also studied cooking somewhere in France, hence the odd (odd to me) combo of French and Thai cooking. Â
The restaurant itself is clean, bright and airy, with views of the water. Â We'll go back in the early summer so we can sit outside.
Specifics:
Lamb - Outstanding. Â The meat was incredibly tender, and just slid off the bone. Â The sauce with some kind of bean in it was savory, great to soak up with the roll.
Pork Chop -  Outstanding.  The meat was tender, not dry at all.  And it was served with slices of zucchini that had been grilled before being added to the sauce with the pork.  Again, the sauce was perfect: some onions and not greasy at all, great for soaking up with the roll, and oh wow oh wow those bits of slab bacon in it are awesome.  The slab bacon bits aren't like your normal Sunday morning brunch bacon, it's thicker and didn't taste as salty.  This was my favorite entrée.
Rockfish - Outstanding.  Personally I'm not a big fish fan (my wife is), but still I'd order this as my only entrée.  Again, the meat was juicy, but the skin of the fish was just the right little perfect amount of crunchy - just  a wee bit.  And all the veggies they throw on top are fantastic.
Crème Brulee - Outstanding.  I love this stuff, and I order it often at different places, but often the top crusty part is too crusty and slightly burnt.  Not with this order I had here.  And the filling was just flavorful and sweet enough to merge with the taste of the crusty top.  Crème Brulee is sweet and can be overpowering, but like all the dishes we had the tastes of this crème brulee all played together very nicely, all the tastes came through.  Love it. Â
Tiramisu - Mmmmmm. Â Outstanding. Â This was my favorite. Â I don't even know what the filling or topping was, but there was some kind of bread (?) on the bottom that sort of had a rum taste to it. Â I never had anything like it. Â This was my favorite desert.
Chocolate Fondant with Home-made Mango Ice cream - Excellent. Â This isn't a normal menu item, they gave us the mango free on the side, which I thought was a nice gesture. Â The fondant is very rich, sort of like a brownie - sort of - but not as dense and a little more chocolately. Â The ice cream was more like sherbert, and you could really taste the mango in it. Â If I had to order this again, I'd probably only order one of them. Â Personally, I didn't get the mix of mango and chocolate, but my wife liked. Â So did her friend.
