  If you are driving through Bethany at lunch time, bypass Toot-Toots and all the other places around the interstate and make your way downtown to the Long Creek Saloon.  For seven bucks you can get yourself a home cooked blue plate special.  Last week (Wednesday's) I had two pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and homemade cream gravy, green beans and cherry pie with iced tea.  They start serving at 11:30 and when it's gone, it's gone.  Tuesday's menu is beans with cornbread.  Monday's is a casserole which was honest food, not my favorite, but still better than any fast food.  
  
  Plus this is where the locals eat: they'll sit down at the table with you and share some good stories.  They also won't be too happy that I've shared their favorite eating place, so don't tell them how you heard about it.
  
  Lunch is fairly smoke free at the Long Creek.  By evening, there's a blue haze.

  Wow, what a difference!   This place has really re-invented itself.   The new owner has somehow made it twice the size it used to be even through the exterior change is very subtle.   It's also been fixed up a lot on the inside.   The bar itself is new, curved, and seats a lot more people.    It's almost what you'd call a classy joint! :)    The crowd seems younger than what I remember from the past, and the additional space means Long Creek can now host live music.
