Lonnski's is your average burger joint that never disappoints.  I love going in because you always know what to expect.  In small-town Grinnell, it isn't always easy to find a place that is vegetarian friendly.  What is so great at Lonnski's is you can substitute any burger on the menu with a black bean burger.  They also have a grown-up grilled cheese sandwich packed with tomatoes, artichokes, and many other yummy veggies.
Be sure to check out this place if you are coming through Grinnell.  All sandwiches come with a pickle and tater tots.  The tater tots are a nice change from your normal fries, but they don't come with a lot, so I would recommend adding an appetizer to your meal.

    Menu musts:
-Sweet potato fries: I like to get them with cinnamon brown sugar (and then I usually ask for cream cheese to mix in with the sugar...so delicious!)
-Cali burger comes with an avocado spread, alfafa sprouts, bacon, tomato, and provolone
-Onion tangles: These are thinner than your typical onion rings, but they pack in a lot more flavor and crunch

Great variety of beers on tap.  Lonnski's is ideal for family dining & beer lovers alike.  Its atmosphere is somewhat of a cross between a hippie haunt & a traditional (Chicago/Iowa Hawkeyes fans') sports bar.  Lonnski's has the best burgers in Grinnell, and they often have delicious soups as well.  There are great booths for small-group seating, and there is a gameroom in back to keep the kids busy.  Our rugby club has all of its socials at Lonnski's, so they're more than capable of handling big groups at table seating areas.  If you're visiting town or passing through, I recommend you stop in and have a pint--it's one of the best places to get some local color (culture) in Grinnell.

This is my favorite place to eat in Grinnell. Everything is good whether you want a healthy option or something a little greasier.

Being a Grinnell alumnus, I can say whole heartedly that Lonnskis is the cream of the crop in Grinnell. After four years living there, and nearly as many away, it is the first place that comes to mind when I'm stopping through town.

    Highlights:
    - Tater Tots on the menu rather than fries
    - California Turkey Club to die for
    - Good beer selection (for a college town)
    - Employer of lots of students, showing support for gown-town interactions
    - Friendly staff
    - Sweet potato fries with hot sauce and sugar... Lonn's turned me on to it, and I haven't found a place so good since.

I cannot understate that this is my favorite place in the town now. Additionally, the move to the new location gives lots more options for large parties and family friendly dining. Lonn's doing great work here, and everyone should go enjoy it.

The only place in town with a decent beer selection, good atmosphere, and great people.  That about sums up Lonnski's.

We wish there was a bit more to their dinner menu and appetizer selection.  And they could do more in the way of vegetarian options beyond the black bean burger for sure.  Overall though, it's a great place to grab a bite and a drink!

Lonnski's is the dictionary definition of no frills hang-out spot to pull up a chair and have a drink.  They have a slowly-changing variety of beers on tap that usually includes some interesting regional options, and service that's an irreproducible mix of upbeat and nonchalant.

For food, burgers really seem to be the way to go here--including pretty good black bean burgers for vegetarians. (You can substitute a black bean patty for any of the burger options, not just the one that's explicitly marked that way-- in fact, everything about the burgers is very customizable, you just have to say which toppings you want.)   The little token serving of tater tots is also a nice touch, though I have to admit, I usually sub sweet potato fries.  As another reviewer pointed out, it's probably not really a place you'll head specifically for the food, but the offerings are just fine for being washed down by your beer.

Super fun atmosphere and almost always filled with people.  It's great for sandwiches, but honestly I've never really tried ordering anything else (my favorite is the California Chicken Club).  The tater-tots are awesome and come with every sandwich.  The price is pretty reasonable, but has gone up a little since they moved to a new location.  I would definitely suggest this place to almost anyone, it's probably my favorite place in town.

I went here with some friends before a show at Grinnell College, and their food was so good!  It's kind of a noisy atmosphere, but fun and informal.  Our server was very friendly and brought us our food quickly.  They're veg friendly, too, and the veg sandwich had sprouts on it, which made me happy :)  Be sure to try the sweet potato fries, dipped in hot sauce or cinnamon sugar.

This is the only 'after hours' place in Grinnell that

    1. serves tasty (and many local) beers on draft
    2. has a fun atmosphere
    3. affordable and tasty menu of pub style / deli food

I love that Lonnski's changes their draft beer selection often and with local brews. Since relocating from their upstairs venue just north of their new location they've reached a whole new type of client - the family. Granted, this doesn't mean much to me the single woman but I think it's excellent that they can reach family, college students and locals alike depending on the time of day.

What I love most? It stays open past 10PM and unlike other places in town, you don't feel like you need a tetanus shot after leaving.

The BBQ Bacon Gouda Burger is quite simply - fantastic.

A little tear wells up in my eye whenever I think of this place and its tot-filled, belligerent goodness. Oh, I miss you Lonnski's and have not found anyone to replace you near or far. I miss your "angry hour," your cheap-as-dirt Long Island Iced Teas, your jukebox, your delicious Pub Clubs, and your sketch-tastic/super-badass staff.

If I return to Grinnell this summer, I am convinced that harps will play, the heavens will part, and angels will come down the first time I see you providing me shots of whiskey and visions of a bunch of drunk people yelling at Rupaul's Drag Race. Praise Jesus, Praise Lon, Praise tots.

I have always endorsed the notion that Lonnski's is a religious experience.

Food is about the quality you would expect but the menu selection is pretty good. Mostly sandwiches, salads, soups. Occasionally burgers, although I can't speak to those. Soups are generally decent. I am partial to the buffalo chicken, the veggie, and the California chicken club. Service is fast and friendly.

The decor is somewhat eclectic, mostly framed vintage euro/french advertising posters and some other weird arty stuff. Very comfortable space- the bar area, in a separate room, is a bit darker, louder, and cozier, while the rest of the restaurant consists of small tables and booths and is a lot brighter. A nice mix.

Great selection of liquor, and there are always several beers on tap, although I kind of wish they would switch off the New Belgium stuff once in awhile.

My Lonnski's obsession may have to do with the fact that it's pretty cheap and a fifteen second walk from my apartment, but I still think it's damn good.
