One of the things we love the most about Mad Horse is the small town, friendly feel we get every time we walk in the door. We definitely can be considered 'regulars', but we wouldn't be regulars if we didn't immensely enjoy the product, the atmosphere, and the people who work at the pub.

Is the menu limited? Yes. Is the beer limited? Yes. Is the wait staff friendly and willing to help with whatever you need? Yes.

Nora's Irish Red was one of my favorites, and the Oatmeal Stout is delicious. Husband loves the Amber Ale, and the English Pub Ale. Family reported the Birch Beer is also awesome.

The review that commented about the broken up pieces of pretzel -- we were there that night, as well, and not only did the wait staff inform us that they were out of full pretzels and had chunks of pretzel, but they gave us twice the amount as normal. For foodies and beer snobs, I suppose that doesn't fly, but for us it was fine.

I'm a fish and chips regular, husband likes the chicken sandwich, we love the pretzel, and we've never had any complaints. It always comes out piping hot, and our fries have always been tasty.

Is it always perfect? No. We went in once and the hefeweizen was skunked, but the staff was quick to give us something else.

Perhaps we are biased since it's our local pub, but we've never had a complaint or an issue, and we can't wait for the new brewer to release his beer!

Keep on keeping on, Mad Horse!

got pretzels and couple more things to go....please do not serve leftover pretzel in pieces as if a rat has chewed on it...shame to serve a $7 pretzel in this shape.  Will not return.  There are plenty of other breweries....dime a dozen

This is a fairly new venue, so we're trying to give it time to settle in. For right now, we find it adequate but not that special.

    Good:
The Birch Beer is exceptional and made by them with no HFCS. (I am not a beer person; I go to hang out with friends and neighbors).
Built in the old funeral home, which is neat trivia. The atmosphere inside though is a bit sterile still, but that may come with time.
The atmosphere is very "town pub" and that is totally working for me. We often see friends or neighbors there.
TV & Music videos over the hearth - Sets a nice tone to things without drowning out conversation.

    Needs Work:
The food! There is not much of it offered, and for the love of God I don't know how they cook the fries but stop and find another way; they are consistently overdone and rock hard. There needs to be more real food than just fish (good!) and burnt chips (fries). Or even just a wider selection of bar food, like potato skins, nachos, or other hand nibbles. A lot of groups meet there to eat, and I know the name says Brewpub but know your audience; we want more and better food to go with it, please.
Hours: still limited. Hoping this will improve with time as well.
You have a gorgeous hearth & fireplace. This is Virginia (we have Winter here). Why is it sealed shut? It should be used!
Also, your Handicapped parking spot is designed oddly in some uneven corner thing going on. Please repaint it in a more standard and logical manner.
