DO NOT EAT HERE!
I met two other friends for lunch all coming from different locations and states, ALL THREE of us became VERY sick for over a week and it was unquestionably due to the quality of food at this establishment. I am now hearing in a pathetic attempt not to take responsibility for the contamination of their food the owners are threatening clients. This is beyond abhorrent and the proper course of action would be to apologize for the food poisoning. I myself missed a test in a class I have never missed once and set me weeks back for the semester. I have not been sick for over ten years, after this meal if you want to call it that I was throwing up sick in bed, and did not feel right for weeks after. As I have stated we all came from different places and the common denominator was meeting here to eat. The restaurant was disgusting with a dirty carpet, and in appalling shape. Its amazing that the place stays in business. I just hope anyone considering heeds these warnings and goes elsewhere! Do not risk getting sick!
My friend and I came here last minute to get an Indian food fix. It was about an hour until closing time but the food was deliciously fresh when it came out.
Food
We ordered kheema naan, gongora chicken, and chicken vindaloo. Both of the entrees were listed as extra spicy on the menu, but we're brave souls so a little adventure was in order. When the waiter asked if we wanted it "spicy spicy" or "regular spicy", we were a little less courageous and went with normal spicy...AND BOY DID IT BURN. I was sniffling, and my friend was sweating but it was so good. The vindaloo had a creamy, tangy, spicy flavor. The gongora chicken was a little bit saltier in taste and had much more of an herbal spice to it. The kheema naan was okay, didn't really taste much of it with all the other spicy things going on. I think we could have saved a couple bucks and went with plain naan. Oh, the food is served family style.
Atmosphere
The establishment is very deserving of fine dining, but does have imperfections here and there that could use touch-ups. Music and lighting is set just right. Not too crowded, not too empty. Bar looks nice and has a big enough TV so everyone can watch.
Staff
Waitstaff could use a little basic training in dining. Normally eye contact or stacked plates would signal attention, but you kind of have to raise your hand here. There were only two parties of two in here, can't imagine a lunch/dinner rush.
Final Thoughts
I'd probably come back again to try what appears to be a buffet, and I'll make sure to be extra cautious and heed their spiciness warnings.
Very nice clean restaurant, attentive staff. My family and I have come to Madras a few times for the buffet. The place is clean, everything still looks new. The food is very good and many gluten free selections. I love the spicy interesting flavors. I also like that the restaurant does not charge for toddlers as most food might not be to the toddlers taste.
Review Source:BEWARE!! BEWARE!! Food Contamination and Food Poisoning Warning!!
I went out to the lunch buffet with my Mom and Brother. Â The restaurant itself looks dirty and grotesque. Â The tables were dirty, glasses were foggy, and rugs stained a color where honestly you would have thought a dead body would have laid. Â
Let me cut to the chase - My Mom, brother, and I all got extreme food poisoning for over 4 days to the point we had to get IV at the ER. I lost almost 10 lbs in this time frame and I am already fit, healthy dude! This food is contaminated and at high risk for bacteria. Â Trust me - I was the most sick I have almost been in my whole life. Â NOT WORTH IT!!!
If you also have fallen sick after eating here please contact that MA Department of Health. It is unacceptable to serve people food that makes them ill.
I've been here twice and enjoyed it both times. I love the beer selection, haywards 5000 is a great beer that gets you on the right level. The food has been delicious both times I was at the restaurant. I have only had appetizers but they were spicy and went down nicely with some beer. The price is a bit high but the service is great, very friendly and the ambiance is authentic and relaxing. I recommend the madras grill.
Review Source:This was the first time we (me and my husband) visited this place. Let me warn you that we both are foodie(s)! We love to visit new restaurants and try new cuisines!
We went for dinner yesterday. The ambiance/decor was warm & welcoming (they have a bar as well). For appetizers, we ordered Chicken 65 & entrees were peshwari lamb chops & gongura chicken. Â Tamarind mojito and mango martini topped out this combination. Their service was good, but we had to wait a little longer than usual to get our orders served.
The food was really good! We both were more than happy! I knew Andhra food is generally spicy, so we asked them to serve us medium spicy, still the food was really HOT! But we liked it! The mango martini was good , but somehow I did not like the tamarind mojito (I am a big fan of mojito though!). We wanted to try the dessert as well, so ended up ordering rasmalai and pista kulfi. We did not like the rasmalai, but the pista kulfi was good. We are planning to visit the place very soon to try their buffet!
Great little place in suburbia!
I've been here for lunch and dinner a few times and both were enjoyable experiences if a little too long. The wait staff is very friendly and polite yet not very up to date on proper hosting/waiting rules.
The food is great! I've tried a little bit of every category food on the menu and everything is brilliant! I love almost everything offered and the staff is quick to point out what will and won't go with what you're looking for. They are also very considerate about the spice levels in food, which my friends and I really appreciate.
The wait time between order and getting the food is a little too long but is made tolerable by a constant flow of appetizers and house specials.
The parking is supremely limited so there can be a bit of a walk involved but the seating is immediate most of the times (lunch buffets are very popular and thus an exception)
Affordable and with great tasting food. However, I consider a better take out place than one to eat in.
I had been to their Weekend buffet on Sunday. They have a good variety of items which includes both North & South indian. They have some south indian items which is hard to find in other Indian buffet places like vadacurry & chicken 65.
Their chicken biryani and chicken 65 were awesome and the fluffy pooris were also good. They had a nice desert of Gulab Jamun wrapped in puff pastry which tasted pretty good and have never tried it anywhere else.
I ate here for the first time about a month ago with coworkers. Â Though somewhat small inside, they had a long row of buffet tables with a great variety of dishes. Â Tikka masala, biryani, tandoori chicken, both mild and super hot dishes, and everything was delicious!
When it's busy at lunch, the buffet line queues the length of the restaurant, making it feel smaller and crowded. Â The staff was very nice but a little on the slow side. Â Empty dishes were not picked up unless we flagged someone down. Â
Though located in a huge strip mall with lots of parking, you are competing with patrons for the other restaurants and shops - I had to park at the opposite end and walk the length of the mall (Madras is on the far end). Â Seems to be a busy area.
If you get a chance, try the mango lassi here. Â It's smooth and sweet and oh so yummy!
Very good food - Chicken 65 was a good accompaniment to our drinks. Â Ending up having the mutton dosa and some cut-up Parantha with chicken - both were new (first time for me) dishes, and I loved them both. Â The rasmalai to finish was a nice end to a spicy meal. Â Will visit again. Â Ample parking out front.
Review Source:Went to lunch here the day before Thanksgiving. had their buffet, decent spread. They had a few dishes that were new to me. Chili flavored chick pea deep fried veggies, heeeey!! Those were tasty.
There were a couple of other curries that were decent but can't remember the names.
I was excited when my mother in law told me they bring out complimentary dosas. She said they usually come out right away but that day we noticed other tables getting their's first. We asked about them a couple of times only to be told in a hastily manner 'yea they are coming.' Our third time the guy noticed we were pretty much done eating and he said he'd go check on them. I was pretty full at that time, but they were tasty and a nice treat, different from the typical naan which was included in the buffet already.
Enjoyed their version of a fruit cocktail, it was drenched in mango lassi type yogurt, mmmm...
This place is bomb! Ordered the naan bread and chicken tikka masala w saffron rice.
Still relatively new to Indian cuisine, but Madras Grill can be credited with carving out a more permanent place in my ethnic food line-up.
Arrived 30 minutes to closing time, and still received very pleasant service. The waiter earned his rupees, providing an extensive tour through the menu.
The food came out quick and was enormously flavorful. From the first bite, I decided I was going to bring more friends back to this place.
Went home and immediately fired up Who Wants to be a Slumdog Millionaire...
I wish I could give half-stars, so I could give Madras Grill 4.5 stars. The food is generally very flavorsome, the service is excellent and the the food prices are reasonable. The only minus I have is that for the meats for the sauced entrees seem to be all cooked exactly the same in batches, and then mixed with the sauces.
Review Source:We went on a Friday night with a $35 Groupon.  The atmosphere was very nice.  The service was excellent.  It was busy, but not crowded.  It was during Diwali (the Hindu festival of Lights).  Many patrons were Indian- always a good sign!  We ordered Vegetable Chilli Fry for our appetizer- it was spicy & VERY good.  We ordered our dinners medium.  I had KASHMIRI DHANIWAL KHORMA which was too mild & a little bland, but ok.  My partner said her COCHIN AVIAL, was very good, but had some tough vegetables (similar to  the fiber-like stems of asparagus).   The PESHAWARI NAAN was fabulous.  We ordered it without butter and it arrived without butter- Yay!  (I've ordered naan with no butter many times in other restaurants and I get it without butter about half the time.)  For dessert we split RICE KHEER & Chai tea - which were both very good.  I really liked the atmosphere.  (Most Indian restaurants don't invest in atmosphere and it makes everything seem cheap.)  Madras Grill has very nice furnishings and an attractive bar which creates a good dining experience!
We will definitely be back!
We went to this place on Tuesday night for dinner. Very quite because of weekday but there were three families enjoying their dinner over there.
The waiter/host is very knowledgeable about the dishes and he was very much upfront on what we would like and what we wouldn't. He was very much accommodating to our needs.
Ambiance was also nice and music was not too loud which I liked.
About food: App that we ordered (Gobhi 65) was amazing. Never had this tasteful appetizer anywhere before. Out entrees were also nice. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely visit this place again.
Snagged the $35 for $17 Groupon, so I ventured here for a dinner date. Started the dinner with a creamy mango lassi and vegetable samosas for an appetizer - both yummy.
Got the chicken vindaloo and lamb rogan josh for an entree. Each entree came with a generous portion of basmati rice, which was nice. Both dishes were flavorful and in my opinion on par or better than most Indian places in the area.
Best part! After the Groupon, the bill came to $7.
Lunch buffet is great as well. I feel like it has a few more options than most other Indian buffets in the area and everything tasted great. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the setup. It wasn't appealing. They have a large serving spoon for each dish which are held in large metal serving dishes (not the right word) that you can open and close. The linens were super messy from everyone placing the large spoons on small dishes in front of the large metal serving dishes. It wasn't the greatest presentation but the food made up for it.
Mmmm....this place was REALLY good! Â My wife bought into a Groupon which got her $35 for $17 so we decided to check it out. Â We came here the night before Hurricane Irene hit so it wasn't very busy.
Here's what we ordered: Chicken Lollypop, Vegetable Chilli Fry, Lamb Vindaloo (hot), Chili fish, garlic naan and basmati rice.
We ordered the chicken lolly pops for my son who's 5 and doesn't have any tolerance to spicy foods but I guess there was just a bit of chilli in the chicken that he couldn't stomach it. Â So the search goes on for a kid friendly Indian cuisine :-( Â the lolly pops were very good though.
We also got the vegetable chilli fry for an appetizer and I think it was my favorite dish. Â Thinking back now, I would've just ordered the chilli fry with basmati rice and called it dinner :-)
I asked for the lamb vindaloo to be hot but not extremely hot. Â The waiter said they have not-hot, mild, hot and extra hot. Â I opted for 'hot' but I think they took one look at us and toned it down to mild. Â It wasn't hot at all and barely made me sweat. Â My wife, who got the chilli fish, thought it was pretty hot though but I actually thought her dish was spicier than mine. Â Go figure! Â The chilli fish and lamb vindaloo were very good nonetheless.
The waiters there were very friendly and the food came out in a reasonably short amount of time. Â My wife and I will definitely come back here to try their lunch buffet very soon. Â The restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking.
My fiance and I found this place via Groupon.
Boy was it a great find. The samosas and naan were so delicious. The sauces had the perfect amount of spice and the lamb was very tender.
The services as phenomenal and the staff was very accommodating.
I give it four stars simply because the atmosphere isn't spectacular.
I highly suggest giving it a shot!
We went for buffet in summer on one of the hottest day and guess what the AC was not working and no one informed us about it when we actually started the buffet, and top of that there was only 1 fan to cool off the entire place ,Eating was just impossible due to heat, had they informed every guest about the AC condition ,I am sure many people would have opted to leave the place. The Buffet was not good either ,first of all very limited dishes and that too none of them were tasty enough to even try for the first time,Tandoori chicken they had kept was just horrible ,Looked like a leftover carried from couple of days.THe buffet price is $ 13 which is just awful for the quality and quantity of the buffet ,would not even pay $ 10 for the kind of food and cleanliness.
A big NO NO for this
A nice hidden gem! Went for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised. Also my wife's introduction to Indian cuisine, and she is now a fan!
For appetizers we had the Mumbai Ragda Patties and the Vegetable Samosas. Both were very good and a nice start to the meal. And I'm not sure what the bread they put out complimentary was, but it was quite good - I would compare it to seasoned nacho chips... but WAY BETTER!
For dinner I had Chicken Tikka Masala, and my wife had the Chicken Saag. Both were delicious! Seasoning was great, the portions were just right. We also had a side of Naan which was excellent.
The food was fresh and overall it was an excellent meal. I'm glad we found out about the Madras Grill, and look forward to returning.
My husband and love Indian food. There is a place at the other end of town that's pretty good but we are always looking for something new. Â We ordered out due to the torrential down pours we had. The gentleman on the end of the phone was very helpful.
We got Chicken Samosa, Garlic Naan, that were very tasty. We also ordered Paneer Kulcha/Cheese Naan, it was very tasty but I didn't see or taste anything like the cheese I have had in other dishes...still I would order it again(hubby wasn't thrilled). Â We had Lamb Vinadaloo, it was great, very hot as expected. Chicken Tikka Masala, that we asked to have medium hot...it was very tasty but hotter then my idea of medium as was the Jhinga Bhuna/Kaddhai Shrimp.
All in all we enjoyed the food and look forward to trying the lunch buffet sometime soon.
We have been here a few times and both times were great! Of course now I can't remember what I had, but the first time was a safe dish (likely tikka masala or something) and then second time I tried something new. Both were excellent. Paired with the garlic naan its definitely a very filling and delicious meal. The decor is great and beats any of the other indian restaurants around and so does the food to be quite frank. This has become our go-to restaurant for Indian cuisine.
Review Source:Came here at lunch time with colleagues for the lunch buffet. There are 12 trays for dishes, some salad and 2 sweet deserts. Over all taste are very nice. A little bit description on the buffet table card would help people understand what's in each dish. Luckily one of my colleague is Indian so he explained what's in each dish to me.
Weekday lunch time gets crowded after 12 as there are few high-tech companies near by and lots of people come in groups. We got there before 12 to avoid the waiting line.
Don't forget to ask for the Dosa as it's not on the buffet but waiter will bring you some as you ask.
This place is a great find. We went on a Sunday night, Â and it wasn't too busy. I think that a lot of people don't know about this place! I went with hubby, 4 year old daughter, and hubby's co-worker. We ordered the "Chicken Lolly Pops", "Mirapakaya Kodi Kura" (spicy Andra chicken curry), "Chili Chicken", Naan, Â "Mutton Kothu Paratha", and a Lychee Lassi.
The Chicken Lollypops needed a bit more salt, but my daughter enjoyed eating it. They were small in size, so it would've been nice if they had more than 5 on a plate. We asked for 'medium spicy', and it wasn't spicy at all.
The Mirapakaya Kodi Kura was very spicy and flavorful. If you can handle the heat, go for this.
The Chili Chicken wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. But it was decent. No need to comment on the naan.
Now, the Mutton Kothu Paratha. Wow. I'd never heard of this dish, and after spending nearly 15 minutes perusing the menu and not being able to decide on what to get, the owner (?) suggested this item. I couldn't have been happier. It was spicy, flavorful, and oh, so good. It was so good that I made a mission of replicating it at home. Â :)
The Lychee Lassi was a hit. They had some interesting flavors, and this one was, again, recommended by the owner. It was so good that my little daughter snagged my hubby's, and he had to order another one. :)
The Madras Grill offers more South Indian dishes than usual (obviously, as per their name, one would guess that), and the flavors are true to India, so don't hesitate to try it out. If they maintain their level of service and the quality of their dishes, they should be a great competitor for The Pongal.
My family and I got here on a Saturday around 1PM and found there was a long line at the buffet table. Â What struck me immediately, was that there was only one other table in the entire restaurant with non-Indian guests. Â While the service was good and friendly, I was disappointed by the lack of proper description of the dishes on the buffet. Â To the untrained eye, most dishes are simply chunks of something in a sauce. Â Some had little hand written cards, but in most cases, they were of little help. Â A few standard dishes that I expect on an Indian buffet (like Daal or Saag) were notably absent and the pieces of tandoori chicken were very small. Â The food was OK, but you had to do some fishing in the chicken tikka masala to actually find the chicken. Â I doubt we'll become regulars here, as Indian cuisine in general in difficult for children that are unaccustomed to spicy food to find something palatable. Â At $6.99 for the children's buffet, it is a bit pricey to have them eating white rice and fruit salad.
Review Source:3.5 stars
I had never really tried Indian food until a few years ago, but now I enjoy it. At my first visit to an Indian restaurant, I ALWAYS order samosas and Rogan Josh, and if those two dishes are really good, they'll have me hooked and I would be willing to try the rest of their fare. If not, I'll begin my search for another place.
This place had 3.75-star samosas, which were pretty small in comparison to others I have had. They also had a salty "crust" and the inside part was more pureed, finely cut than I'm used to. It wasn't bad; it was just different, and it was served over cut cucumbers. I just prefer bigger chunks. The Rogan Josh was about a 3.75 star, but it was more expensive than others I've had, and the lamb wasn't as tender as I would have liked. More lamb would have been better, too. The sauce was good and it had a little kick. They served it with white rice.
They had a buffet ($9.95) this afternoon, and I wasn't impressed with many of the entrees. They could have had more protein besides the two chicken dishes. Looked like several different types of curry, a spinach dish, a couple of rice offerings, plain naan, cabbage, Indian "chili," and lots of things with tomato/creamy sauce. There were a few types of dessert, the strangest of which was something made out of beets laden with sugar.
The raita was weird; if the purpose is to refresh/cool your mouth, then it shouldn't have had so much red onion. I believe the weekend buffet costs a little more, and it probably has more choices.
The waiters weren't pushy with drinks, but as I was looking at the buffet to see if that's what I would be eating, I asked the waiter to describe what such and such was. Instead of describing the ingredients, he read the little card next to it. I had already done that.
The place is about a month old and therefore, pretty clean except for under my table, of course. Looked like someone knocked over a bowl of rice onto the floor under my seat, and it wasn't I.
Will probably be back, but not tomorrow.
Wow. We've eaten out a lot recently. Time for me to do some cooking, I guess.
