This place has great music and fun regulars, but note to anyone without a Massachusetts license: they require a passport to get a drink. I have no idea what the story behind that is, but unless you are the type of person who's prone to leaving the country at a moment's notice and therefore carry your passport with you at all times, you're out of luck. That means you too, out-of-town guest.
Review Source:I went to Mari's last week and while its not a 5 star restaurant, the food IS excellent. I would definitely go back there. I got the chicken picatta and it was DELICOUS! my boyfriend got the steak tips, also delicious. the food is fresh, made to order. And did I mention cheap? we ate AND drank for under $40.
While this is definitely a local's bar, the staff and clientelle never made you feel like an outsider. They were more than welcoming and friendly. I'd suggest giving it a shot.
DON'T EAT HERE!!!
Buffalo wings were not even warm. Â Tasted like cheap, frozen wings that were microwaved for 2 minutes. Â
Fries were over salted and burnt. Â Sorry kid, you cannot hide charcoal-favored fries with sea salt.
Gave the place a star for live entertainment. Gave another star for the friendly bartenders. Â Would go here again for drinks, but NEVER AGAIN for food.
Mari's Place is a fairly new (as of late Winter/early Spring '09) bar in Quincy Center. Â It used to be another bar, which I'd never been into. Â
We went for the first time last night with some friends to grab some drinks and listen to some blues. Â Music was pretty good! Â They have live blues bands every Friday and Saturday, and open mic on Mondays. Â Worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood and looking for live entertainment - I believe you can get schedules online, although I don't know exactly where.
The drinks were cheap, and there was no cover to get in. Â The bartender was friendly, as were other patrons, and the vibe was comfortable, overall. Â We didn't eat there, but they do have a full kitchen, and there are apparently nightly specials. Â And they make pizza! Â Good for a late night of drinking, I'll bet. Â All in all, a cheap and entertaining way to spend an evening. Â We'll definitely head back soon.
