Not a mind blowingly good steak joint but they serve quality steaks consistently here. It's a safe bet for a good dinner if you are in the area. The best part is the really old building it has some history and some shockingly famous visitors according to my grandfather.

"Set the Wayback Machine to 1949, Mr. Peabody!" Maury's isn't an approximation of what a fine steakhouse was like when our parents were young. It's the real thing, with dark paneling, red leather, low ceilings, all remarkably well preserved with a menu that has also both withstood and thoroughly resisted the rigors of time.

Coffee rub for your steak? Not here. Charred exterior under super high heat? Nope. Some truffle butter on the side? What the hell are truffles? Here you get simple but well prepared food, friendly service, and west side sensibility that delivers an incredible value. You'll pay about half for your meal what an a la carte steak will set you back at the fancy places.

I'd like to see some higher end wine choices and perhaps a more adventurous steak option or two, but that would hurt the retro appeal. The Pine Club in Dayton is probably the closest cousin I've seen, but Maury's remains an original after all this time.

Wood paneling, fluffy rolls, and unlimited dill pickle slices. Welcome to the West Side.

Our evening started with the recommended Chocolate Martini, which was the perfect blend of cocoa and liquor to compliment a chilly night. I ordered a cup of the French Onion Soup to start, which arrived in a huge cup overflowing with cheese. This is what you dream of when you think of soup.

For my main, I had the BBQ Chicken, which was tender and savory to the last bite. I chose the potato pancakes as a side. Three huge crispy pancakes arrived, perfectly German style. I probably would have been good with just one, since it was a side dish, but hey, I had a few to box up and take home.

As mentioned above, Maury's serves up unlimited dill pickles. They're the huge, cucumber-like slices and arrive in a small cup. Just ask the server for more; this is one of the special delights of the West Side.

With low ceilings and winding nooks of the rooms explain the "tiny cove" part of the name. It's quaint, it's unique, and it adds to the charm of this restaurant. While I wouldn't peg this as a steakhouse at first glance, I've heard good things about the beef.

    Price per person: $15.00

They had mice. Definitely ruined the atmosphere for the date with my husband.  I didn't see them, but when he told me about it as we were leaving I almost threw up.  Other than that, everything else that everyone says about the quaintness of this place is true.  But I will never go there again.

Mice. Saw 2 of them running around on the floor on my first visit last night and I will not be returning to see more.

From the exterior, Maury's has all the character of a stone on the side of the highway.

Enter the Tiny Cove and you will experience one of the more amazing transformations between exterior and interior in the city.  Maury's low ceilings and nook-and-cranny layout give this place a real sense of seclusion from the outside world.  The tables and decor are straight out of yesteryear and the whole place smells like creamy buttered lobster (in a good way).  I felt like I was in the galley of a pirate ship the whole night: check out the booty behind the bar--

--The bull:  You might notice that the bar is adorned head to toe with bulls.  I spoke to the owner and learned that Maury was a Taurus.  Knowing this fact, over the years patrons started to bring bull art, statues, you name it as gifts to Maury.  He would place them behind the bar and more people would follow suit.  Maury's now sports bulls from multiple continents in a plethora of media.

Additionally, I'm told the bar upstairs has some pretty nonstandard celebratory week nights.  Including a night when you can get your nails did, and a comic book trivia night!

This place was definitely a diamond in the rough and feel a large wave of people will be washing up on deck real soon.

Maury, where have you been all my life? This place oozes old school charm. From the shiny leather seats, the low ceiling on the first floor, and a bathroom with freezer doors, I can't wait to come back and "experience" more of this labyrinthine restaurant. Our large group (13 yelpers strong) ate in the second floor area by the bar. We didn't have reservations, but fortunately we were able to move the tables around and create one large table. Stacy, our server,  was awesome and took care of everyone's orders and kept the drinks full.

From the complimentary pickles and " light as a feather puffy" bread to the extensive menu, you will definitely find something to fill your belly. I had the BBQ Chicken ($14.95). Two pieces of juicy chicken with a decent flavored sauce. I also had a pear salad that was great. My side was a yummy baked sweet potato. The French Onion Soup is a must order. I think their crew shirts say it best, "Friends don't let friends eat at chain restaurants."

    Drink specials:
    Mon...$1.50 Drafts
    Tue....$3.00 Long Islands (WOW!!!!!!)
    Wed...$3.00 Margaritas
    Thu....$2.00 Domestic Bottled Beer
    Fri......$8.00 Beer Buckets

I was recently introduced to this delightful little spot in the westside.  I don't ever really explore the westside at all, but this place would bring me back over 75 to check out again.  I don't not try the French onion soup, regretfully, yet everyone who had it raved about it.  Their buns were very good and unique.  The buns are made in coffee cups and brought out in.  Very light and fluffy,  some on the best bread I have had and interesting presentation.

The service is excellent there as well.  We brought a large group and they only had one server/bartender.  Though the rest of the restaurant was dead for the most part, he handled our table and drinks with ease!

The restaurant itself has a few rooms with tables which makes it look a lot larger than it is.  The back has a very nice patio with a few tables as well.  There is a large parking lot in the back as well, so that is not a problem.

Maury's Tiny Cove is amazing.  I feel like I've stepped back into the 50's when I walk in. With the red seats, 50's style woodwork, and the super low ceilings. I'm going to guess people used to be much shorter back in the day.  If you go in the Harrison St entrance the ceilings are about 6'2" and I'm about 6'3" haha.

I have never had a bad experience here, the wait staff is always so friendly, keep my pickle bowl filled and glass full. But I still haven't figured out all the bulls, can someone explain that to me?

My food has always been fantastic. I usually get the Turkey Ruben which is fantastic and they give you the dressing on the side.  Their Sweet Potatoes are massive as well as the salads.  The steaks have always been cooked almost to perfection and if you're looking for the best bowl of French Onion Soup you will ever have this is where you need to go

They have a full bar, their pours aren't the strongest but the bartenders are super friendly and on top of keeping your glass full.  They have a late happy hour with great specials and $5 delicious martini's.

If you find yourself on the westside looking for a great place to eat and a trip back in time then wander in to Maury's

I was very surprised at my meal at Maury's!  My sophomore prom date had taken me here and I was horrified with his choice!  Talk about unclassy and uncool.  But today, Maury's is so uncool, its cool again!

I swear the restaurant hasn't be updated in 40 years.  The place looks like it has stepped out of the 1950s or 60s.  But tables, chairs, carpets, etc are all in good condition and so don't really need replacing.  Its kitchy more than old.

I was also shocked by the food, which was very good.  I got the BBQ chicken and my friend got the Chicken Caprese.  My BBQ chicken was better.  It had a good BBQ sauce and the chicken was very moist.  His chicken was only ok.  Both came with a huge salad and a side from their extensive menu.  They are most well-known for their steaks, which I imagine are as good as the chicken.  For the portion size, the price was great.

They have many happy hour specials which runs from 6-8pm.  I was disappointed I wasn't there on $3 Long Island Tuesdays.  Monday was $1.50 drafts.

We sat in the bar area and got amazing service from the bartender.  He was friendly and didn't mind when we hung out for quite a while waiting for the UC game to end.

Live in the area or not, this hole in the wall is totally worth the drive.

    Pickles!

Pickles abound at Maury's. They will bring you bowl after bowl of pickles until you feel yourself pickled.

And then there are are the martinis, which will pickle you in a different way.

I've been going to Maury's since I was a tyke. I grew up on the Westside, and you cannot miss the martini-toasting, dancing bull that is their sign. When I was a child, I wanted to go there just for the sign, and from the portraits of bulls that adorn their walls. But now I go to Maury's for the food and libations.

Here's the dilly: the sandwiches are excellent & named after local high schools. The steaks are huge, well-cooked and tender. The salads are made with shredded lettuce. The beer is cheap and plentiful & since the new ownership, the beer selection is fantastic.

One of the running gags in Cincinnati is that no one goes to the Westside to dine, because there isn't anything good to eat on the Westside.

Buck popular perception and get yourself to Maury's.

Grab the bull by the horns.

Horrible. I am not talking food but service. I was there last night walked in and my party of 4 was sat immediately. It was 6 pm. 20 minutes later no wait staff no drinks nothing.  I know I counted 3 tables in my area already with drinks that came in after us.  One thing I can not handle is lousy service. But what worse is service that ignores me. That will keep me away for a long time.

Maury's is undoubtedly the finest steak I have ever had, at a mere $25 for a 10 oz prime cut filet mignon. I've had steaks at Ditka's in Chicago, Shula's in Florida, and Jeff Ruby's in Covington and no one can compare to the delicious steak found at Maury's. You don't have to be in the football hall of fame to know how to cook a great steak and Maury's is proof of that.

Maury's also has great sides, great service and they make a mean martini. If it's good enough for that cow on their sign, it's good enough for me (cows are notoriously elitist drinkers). The decor is very Sinatra with a low ceiling and 1950s style wall paper and seating.

Overall a great spot, I'm there every September 20th on my birthday, sucking down martinis and clogging my arteries with a USDA prime filet, medium rare of course. Well-done is for barbarians and I am no ostrogoth.

Maury's is family owned and operated and has been around for YEARS. The only indie steakhouse that I know of on the West Side it is vintage - low ceilings, red vinyl and you'll find some of the staff may have been working there as long as it's been open.

Don't go expecting trendy dinners or crafty plates - this is a pure meat and potatoes joint and it isn't too expensive.  The atmosphere is quiet and makes for a great date place if you actually want to have a conversation.

Found them on Google, searching for soup and salad Cincinnati. It was burred a few pages down in rank, but  the local review quantity was off the chart (all good).

Turned out to be a block an a half from our favorite comic book store (Up, Up and Away... gee, another review I need to write). Ate there around 1:30 so the lunch rush was over, but service was still great and the waitresses chipper. Large menu to choose from... even the lunch menu was extensive. I had it narrowed down to three items... waitress helped me choose the "best" one for me as a "first timer" to try.

I am ready to go back again.

By the way, the ceilings are low in this joint... you'll feel 10 feet tall, literally.

This place is old school, with a very nice ambience. The food is very good and not too expensive. A great place to go for a quiet, laid back, romantic type dinner. Waitstaff is good and helpful. Try it once and you'll be back.

This is the type of place Sinatra might have held court when he came to the Queen City -- the vintage decor, red vinyl booths, and low ceilings all lend a sort of smoky ambiance -- but fortunately there's no smoking anymore. Meat is the centerpiece at Maury's and the prime rib did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly and served with horse radish and crispy steak fries. My wife had the special, which was fish and chips, and it was also excellent.

Service was fast and friendly, not overbearing, and everything came out of the kitchen and the bar like we were the only ones in the joint (we weren't). Drinks and food are reasonably priced - with drinks and two entrees it was under $50.

Maybe it's because it was a Tuesday night, maybe it's because I went in  with few expectations, or maybe it's that or maybe it's because they give you a plate of dill pickles before you even order, but whatever the reason, Maury's Tiny Cove is calling me like a Siren to join the regulars sitting at the bar.
