Total joke.
We were asked to share the bill here with a fellow band. I said sure, great, what's the pay?
NOTHING.
Yup, Meenar's pays nothing for their bands (at least mon and tues) claiming the free "exposure" is worth it. If I want exposure I'll go down to Market street and play with the hobos.
DO NOT patronize this place and musicians FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT play here for free. Your time is worth only what you are willing to accept in return for it, so you are basically telling people that you and your music are worth nothing. If you just want to try out new material or whatever then play a PAYING gig at a dive bar in the city. There's plenty.
Or try open mics if you aren't ready for a gig. Lots of them in the city- message me and I'll send you a list. But Hotel Utah has a great one on Tuesdays for starters, and they're cool people to deal with.
Meenar's is a super awesome bar in Danville, Ca. Awesome music, Awesome atmosphere, and and awesome customer service from a bartender that works there named Andy. No matter what drink a customer orders, he always has it ready. Andy is ALWAYS "on top of it" and I've never seen him let down his customers that he is working with.
Andy does a fantastic job as a bartender, and provides OUTSTANDING customer service! I can see him going very far with this, even as a full time career if he wanted to. No matter how busy it is, Andy is always very consistent and attentive to his customers!
Awesome Job Andy!

Due to the fact that this owner refuses to pay any musicians performing on his stage it's often total amateur hour down here. Â The owner refers to the performances here as "A casual, no pressure kinda deal - No Pay -All styles are welcome" Â
After all no decent SF based Musician is gonna make the drive way out to Danville and back  for no pay.
It's also quite frankly insulting to even post want adds requesting such services for free.  If I were to go in and ask the guy to tend bar for a couple hours at a private event for zero compensation I wonder how he would respond. He claims he is helping to  "keep Music alive in the East Bay, and give Local Musicians an opportunity" However the reality is greedy opportunistic bar owners such as this one makes it harder to be a working musician in the area.
This spot does have things going for it and it could be a good niche for locals to see bands in their area which they would otherwise have to drive out to the city for.  Places like Sweetwater & StarryPlough became famous by doing so.  But just like anything else you get what you pay for.
Visited a friend in Danville last Friday and she took me to Meenars. Â This place has so much character. Â The people at the bar were friendly and the customers were a riot. Â Great place to go people watching. Â The band playing there was amazing. Â Didn't catch the name of the band, but the lead singer was an Asian guy that could sing everything. Â :) He does a Doors song one minute then he shocks you by singing Lady Gaga the next. Â Looking forward to my next trip there!
Review Source:Meenar's is currently on Craig's List with an ad looking for local musicians to play on Tuesday and Wednesday nites, without paying them for their services on stage.
Of course, if one were to visit Meenar's on those nites, I am certainly assuming that one would have to pay, of course, for the food and drinks served those nites. (And, if Meenar's was asking for a cover charge those nites, well, besides that it's bad enough that a venue is not paying for musical services, but having a cover charge at the same time, would be unforgiveable....).
How would Meenar's react, if one were to walk in and ask for food and drink for free, but tell the club management, "But, hey, this is great "exposure" for Meenar's(!!)..."
As a local East Bay Musician who plays out several times a month, this is completely unacceptable treatment of the local music scene, as if those musicians who would frequent Meenar's on Tuesday and Wednesday nites, don't have to pay for their own personal music equipment, and also rehearsal times.
As long as Meenar's continues to flaunt this UNSAT policy, I will never go there, and will advise my colleagues and musician friends to stay away as well....
We had a HILARIOUS night out here last weekend with my parents. If you are looking for live music, boob jobs, divorcees, college kids with dad's money...you are in for a treat! Drinks are okay and it's clean enough. Points for the hot dog stand guy out front. It was mindless entertainment and the band was decent. We went back to Elliot's.
Review Source:Cougar city
Came here with a few of my guy friends and they were being prowled upon the whole night. Pretty entertaining. A little disturbing.
The band was good, but they definitely played music catered to the crowd there (read: music made way before I was born in the 90's. Â My parents loved it) Â And can we talk about the guitarist?? Â He had a fan blowing right at his face with his long blonde hair blowing in the wind. So majestic.
This place was super cramped! Â No where to stand and hang out with a group of friends.
Overall this place was fun, good drinks and chill but as a 21 year old I felt super out of place since everyone else was 35+
Only been to this location a few times only cause there was nothing to do that night and my friends wanted to go to a bar. The place is filled with both younger and older crowd. I always found it amusing to watch all the cougars hit on the younger guys. Smoking section outside is kinda crampy, people always asking to bum a cigg from you, can get old real fast. The dancing area is small, tto think about it the entire place is small. Its impossible to dance, forget bout trying to fit a place to sit. Even if you get lucky to sit at the bar top you are getting pushed by people behind you trying to buy drinks. I guess i would have had a better time if was maybe drunk like all the others.Haha.
Review Source:So I never knew it played live music.. maybe because I have only been there on thursdays for our girls night blacking out opportunites. This is one of those places I fell in love with after college because it was close to my girls house and I love the mix that ends up there. From 16 (I swear I'm 21) to older than old air humping grannys this place is freaking hilarious. I always have a good time, they have ridiculous drink specials after 10 and I am always able to catch a cab outside.
1. have yummy vodka
2. can make cactus coolers
3. have jameson by the mouth full
4. play a decent mix
5. people watching for days
6. room to dance
Yup this place gots what I need for drunken fueled debauchery.
...as Toby Keith would say..."I love this bar!" :)
I've actually only gone to Meenars a few times (3 or 4 times). I went last night with a bunch of buddies of mine. And I have to say, I had a really great time. The bartendars are awesome, the crowd was a lot of fun, and the band was perfect!
Three of us went out in Danville and the streets seemed really dead, but once we walked into Meenar, there were lots of people! It was a small divey bar with a few televisions playing ESPN.
Drinks are reasonably priced at $6 each. The best part was the live band that was playing that night called Jim Remy. They covered rock alternative songs mostly from the '90s, which are my favorite. They also had newer rock alternative. Songs performed were by Oasis, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Killers, Train, etc.
Good chill, low-key bar!
Eew. Eew.
When you walk in to Meenar, you're greeted with an overwhelming stench of body odor and a hoarde of cougars, grinding on each other and other men.
Bar service was horrible, floors are sticky and music is definitely Texas bar juke box music.
If you're not 50+, caucasian, and hunting for a man this place probably isn't for you.
2 stars because at least people were dancing and having a good time, even if fake tanned and silicone filled boobs are hanging out and it smells like a high school locker room.
Ehhh I'm just not a big fan of Meenar.
It gets a little crowded, usually some creepy older guys. Plenty of cougars. Sometimes they charge a cover when there's live music... this is not a place that should ever charge a cover.
That being said, the staff is friendly, and you can have a good time here. I suggest getting drunk before going in.
Meenar is pretty quiet during the day, hardly anyone here. flatscreens are on, music comes thru the internet jukebox
8 microbrew drafs to choose from, black board special tecate can @2.
pour: guiness,(5) tasted flat. Â a disappointment.
comped pretzels tasted ok.
on draught:
-$2 draught after 10 on thursday
-bartender  never checked in again, went outside for a smoke, so i  left..
Good ole spot to end up from a night on The Town.
Great staff and nice clientele with cheap drinks to boot. The music scene is much better here than most of the other joints in town. A very refreshing change of pace comparably.
Enjoy the full bar and good company. Almost every night you're likely to catch some music.
Thank you Meenar for helping our happy hour rebound from the Crown and become a happy night! Â After a less than pleasing experience down the street, my coworkers and I found ourselves at Meenar and had a blast.
The drink are cheap, the bartenders are friendly, and the music being played on the jukebox was a refresing change from what you hear in most places. Â Clean bathrooms, too! Â
Bottom line: As a Hayward girl, this is way more of my kind of Danville bar. Â I'll be back, for sure.
I dont think so but people swear by this place. Literally there was a bunch of old hoes that swore at us when we were having a smoke outside. I know its a regular people hang out and so you get that type of regular meets party crowd inside. Decent drink and music but seriously...can i get an AA meeting fast enough for all the souls inside. But i will be back. Just next time with extra gum for the bar fly's.
Review Source:Meenar! I always seem to end up here as the last stop of my night, but that's not a bad thing. They usually have some live musicians going or at least a crowd that doesn't put 3 hours of Ke$ha and Black Eyed Peas on back to back.
Bar staff, namely Andy, are awesome and really cool about everything, they even ask people to leave with a nice flair about it. Drinks are cheap and they have one of the fullest bars in the area plus a pool table.
Word of warning, the men's bathroom doesn't lock so you might find yourself meeting new friends completely by surprise. Keeps it interesting.
A staple in the area bar scene and not to be missed.
My second time at the "Danville bar scene" and it really doesn't compare to anything else. Â First impressions are big with me and when you encounter someone who really likes themselves saying "Move your beers (to us and gesturing to an older lady so she could sit down).", it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Â Seriously, this could have been handled like a normal person. Â A simple, "Hey, do you mind if she grabs a seat?" Â Come to find out he works at the bar...sweet. Â I will not be coming back.
Review Source:If you're a cougar-hunter...like me...there are no better hunting grounds in the East Bay other than this place. Â Yes, I read the previous review on cougars hanging on the arms of older rich men. Â But if you're like me, just push aside those old and wrinkly soon-to-be-in-a-hospital-bed-prenub law suits, and show the hotter cougars the young bucks! Â (Just a warning, careful you're not too wasted at the point of choosing one of them, the lighting isn't very good and you could wake up IN a hospital bed after the shock wore off!)
What month are we in right now, February? Â This is PRIME cougar season!! Â The kids are in school and have weekend sleepovers at that unlucky parent's house, the husbands are off on business trips because their fiscal year is up and they need their bonuses, tax returns for the wives to spend on drinks to take the young bucks back to their den, its just past Valentine's day so they're all still bitter because they're not happy and need to drown themselves in alcohol to stop the pain......
....I could keep going, but to make a long story short, if you like em like a fine wine, come to Meenar. Â Its like going fishing with dynamite in a barrel.
Good hunting!
Meenar is a rather frightening place for me- although that is not to say I haven't spent many a night here. This is the classic bar to find Cougars hanging on the arms of rich old men, and lots of them. I think if you didn't grow up in the area, and see everyone you knew from high school in here (or working here) everytime you went, it could be a cool spot. (minus the aforementioned cougar/old men scene)
Jill, the bartender, is killer. I've seen here managing that whole bar on busy night and she doesn't stop moving, gets the drinks out, and is always nice to you. The prices are average/cheap and they have a nice alcohol selection.
They charge a cover when there is live music, or maybe only on weekends, but either way, covers suck. They do usually have good live music though! It can be a fun dance floor if you're drunk enough. Just try not to go to the bathroom-- EVER!
I love it when people call Meenar a dive bar. Really? Apparently you've never been to a real dive bar. Dive bars for most part don't have live music. The certainly don't have the selection of liqueur that this place has. And regardless of age, most dive bars don't have good looking women hanging out.  In most dive bars you'd be lucky to find any woman or dude worth your time.  Mennar for me is a great place. It's  not a trashy joint. Granted it is not the Four Seasons.
They have a good attentive staff. They have fun music. Although I must say that their Internet juke box is a sham. This  place  is not totally a cougar bar. It is a good mix of ages and classes. I've seen the hottest of hottest young totties and the biggest of biggest inflated cougar titties here. So don't kid there is something here for everyone. And laddies you'll find all kinds of guys here. Weather you are looking a yuppie, meat- head , a sugar daddy  or a young buck, they can all be found here.
Furthermore If you like to get fucked up, hang out here with some regularity . You'll get fucked up.Trust me. Beyond all that,  If you are out looking to shake you rump with some local flavor. And if  you don't feel like Akon and 5o cent remixed in you ear all night or  gold platted grills all up in yours,  check this joint out.
Yes they do charge a cover when they have live music. It's like 2 to 5 bucks. do you think the band is playing for free? And if you are scoffing at $5, maybe you should stay home and save your money. Â Otherwise, see you at the bar.
I always have a good time here. It's great old people watching. The drinks are terribly expensive, bar service is fairly prompt and the crowd is a good mix. I enjoy watching the old people dance while being intoxicated. Last time I was there I saw this guy that had hair like a lion and he looked straight out of the 80's. I'm pretty sure if I saw him drive away that night, he would have been in a T-top turquoise Camaro.
The bands are typically fun and sing the songs that everyone knows. Last time we were there, my buddy was basically molested by some older lady that could have been his mother. Who doesn't like being the hunted at a cougar bar? But then again, as I said, it's a good mix of people. There are younger people there as well. I've never had a bad experience here and will continue to go back.
My thoughts in a week: "Meenar... what's that? OOOH it's the bar in Dublin where we watched Ms Lola Pop and Malicious perform w/ the Burlesque Dancers... Right...."
If the statement "First Impressions are Everything..." this "MUSIC" Club must still be open because of their devoted regulars. The only thing memorable about this club were the lovely performers stuffed in the ice box closet of  a "dressing room". You know somethings wrong when after the show, the dancer almost leave immediately.
It could have been a bad night... or too early? How could there be NOO Music? I don't know. I've been known to be Miss Rationale, love to make excuses for people.
Pro:
1) NO COVER.
2) "Original Sin" Burlesque Dancers
3) Lola Pop & Maliscious
After being in said city for 20+ years, one would think that I would know more about the alcohol serving spots in D-town, that and living within walking distance one would think I've spent many a nights causing trouble down here. Â However, with all that has been said, last night was my first time here.
My law school buddy called me up at last minute to head out for a drink as he was driving through town, so he swooped me up to have a drinky or 2 together. Â Well actually it was more like him drinking and me sipping on my diet coke, but either way you get the point.
It definitely was an older vibe in this place, kinda like a spot where everyone knows each other. Â The bouncer at the door didn't even bother carding us (take that Crogans!) and maybe its because my said company was in his early 40's. Â Bartender was friendly and attentive, and they did have some guy rocking out on the guitar there so that was kinda neat.
Either way it was a pleasant experiance here, but of course this is coming from a girl who doesn't get shitfaced anymore and only stayed there for about an hour or so. Â So take this review however you want to!
For me, Meenar's bar is best compared to a run-down, strip mall bar, in Reno, with terrible music, cougars, and a cover. That's right, there's a $5 cover to bump and grind with Danville's finest 40+ singles. But time and time again, after a few beers at Elliott's and a pint from the Crown, it always seems like a good idea to come here. Then we're reminded why we all moved out of Danville before 21 even crossed our mind. Then we come back. Just for a laugh. And to spill a Corona on the dance floor. Then we rehash the whole experience over a Lumberjack Slam at Denny's. I love visiting home.
Review Source:Ohhh yeaaa, I knew it. See, I told ya, Danville has bars.
The night I went was rather chill. There weren't any bands playing, and we got in relatively hassle-free, pat-down-free, and coverage-free. Upon entrance, we realized we were perhaps the youngest pups amongst all the cougars and tigers and bears there. No biggie.
Our bartender was attentive. She immediately serviced us as soon as we walked in. It would appear they have about 5-7 different selections on tap--hey, not bad for a dive bar... in Danville. Prices? Cheap. I can't speak for certain but I think my friend paid under 15 bucks for 2 drinks.
Not much was happening the night we went. Granted, it was Sunday. They played music intermittently, and the selection was poor. You could not sing to it nor could you dance to it. I wonder if they played the music just to drown out some random loud, obnoxious guy behind me.
Demographics of the crowd varied from 20+ to 40+. Danville is not known for its diversity. Take caveat that you might run into your high school principal there, or maybe your P.E. teacher back from middle school. I would go just for the sake of saying that I have been to a dive bar in Danville.
Only been here once, there's an older crowd here. Â I've also heard Meenar's can be quite the cougar den.
One our coworkers got carded, she didn't have her ID, she was also 30.. They didn't let her in so we left.
There's a small patio on the right side of the building, unfortunately not much special about Meenar's. I've heard it's not a great place for to go for younger folk. Â Two stars for being in Danville, and serving drinks.
Wishful thinking in Danville.
I live around the corner, so have plenty of reasons to WANT to go to this place, but after 3 times in, I'm resigned to the fact that it's just another stop on the Pete's, Crown, Elliott's pubcrawl. Â Here are the things about Meenar's that make it a bit hard to chew: 1) I'm here to DRINK - serve me a DRINK for god's sake! - the barstaff are too busy fending off leather-skinned 40+ divorcees to pay you any attention 2) this cannot be seriously considered a venue for live music - the stage is a 2x4 on cinderblocks, and I think a different white dude has been crooning Brick House every time I've walked in 3) the outdoor patio is seemingly a smokehaven that feels more like a scene from Sylvester Stallone's labor of love "Breakout" - it's all barred in with harsh lighting and fat-gutted old guys.
Meenar's is a necessary evil when out on a bender, but I find it hard to believe that anyone in their right mind doesn't cry tears of self pity once they look at themselves in the mirror and realize they're in Meenar's bathroom...
For a much better drinking experience, spend time at Elliott's - Â just a few stumbling moments away.
Great pub.
The bartender was very cute, very hot and very nice. Â She made us all feel welcomed and kept the beer flow'n. Â It must have been geriatric night when we showed up but they cleared pretty quick after we started getting loud from drinking and fending off cougars. Â Met some cool locals and the the band wasn't bad. Â The singer was horrible. Â When we walked in one of our group said in her outside voice "I didn't know they had karaoke here." Â The band took a break shortly after. Â I felt a little bad until the singer came and had a beer with us and complained that the band keeps making her sing songs out of her range. Â That's what the older crowd wanted to hear though. Â She was quitting and this was her last show. Â After the Viagra crowd left she sang some better songs and sounded pretty good. Â No blood, no foul I guess. Â We'll go back....
