Nice Place, rather far off the interstate, and tucked away in a strip mall.  Food was good, I have had better sauces.  First place like this I have been that served cabbage as part of the vegetables.
No choice of salad dressings offered, serving sizes were adequate, vs some places I have been that are enormous.   The Orange sherbet was good.

This review is long, but stick with me, for your own benefit.

I stopped in here a few months ago and had one of the worst meals I've had in Macon...which is really quite an accomplishment, given how bad most of the food is down here.

The restaurant wasn't very busy. There was one couple sitting at the sushi bar, one 4-top and one 2-top sitting at the tables, and a small amount of people sitting at one of the hibachi grills. It took about 10 minutes for us just to get some menus, at which time we placed an order for some edamame (because our two year old loves the stuff and it helps keep him pacified/occupied when we go out to eat at japanese restaurants). We then waited for another 15 minutes before someone came over to take the rest of our order, which consisted of some chicken yakitori as an appetizer, 4 sushi rolls, and a handful of nigiri.

We then proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more.

I tried to flag down the waitress multiple times to find out what was taking so long, and was repeatedly ignored. Finally, after we had been there for an hour, I asked her why we hadn't even received our edamame yet. She told me that "the kitchen was very busy" before briskly walking away. 5 minutes later, we FINALLY had our edamame, which had barely been seasoned. So to recap...we were in a non-busy restaurant and it took us a solid HOUR to get something that takes all of 3 minutes in a steamer to prepare.

Then our first round of sushi came out. (Mind you, I still hadn't received my appetizer order of chicken yakitori yet). The sushi looked about as unappetizing as it could. Hastily thrown together without the least bit of care for presentation or detail. Uneven slices of fish. Rice falling off the nigiri. The tako/octopus had obviously been frozen and run under warm water to defrost it, as the outer edges were room-temperature bordering on luke-warm, while the middle was freezing cold, soggy, mushy & waterlogged. The masago & tobiko were both really fishy and mushy...they lacked that 'pop' that they're supposed to make in your mouth. They were mushy & mealy and tasted like the owners probably picked it up in the bait section of the Bass Pro Shop down the road. And I'm not even joking or making light of the situation, as that is my honest conclusion as to the quality of the fish eggs.

Then my chicken yakitori showed up (more than an hour after I ordered it). The chicken was still raw in places, it was smothered in some form of sickly-sweet barbecue sauce that was unlike any kind of yakitori seasoning or marinade that I had ever experienced before, and the vegetables were soggy. I think they microwaved the entire thing rather than cooking it over a charcoal or gas grill. Inedible.

Then the second half of our sushi order came out. Everything was absolutely smothered in a pink-colored sauce. Drowned in it. There was a puddle of pink sauce on the bottom of the plate. Once again, the sushi was thrown together without a care in the world. Lazy beyond belief. But the real kicker was when I noticed that some of the tuna & salmon in the rolls was grey and had a really strong fishy odor and taste. They served us ROTTEN FISH, and smothered it in sauce in the hopes that we wouldn't notice.

At that point we got up to leave. We spoke with the owner on the way out and explained how disappointed we were by the meal, between the wait times, the bad quality, the rotten fish, etc. Our food was still sitting there, mostly-uneaten, and yet he refused to go over and look at it. He implied that we were lying, and basically threw us out of his restaurant, telling us we weren't welcome back there.

So there you have it. If you want some of the slowest service in Macon (which is saying something) combined with some of the worst food in Macon (which is saying something) combined with some of the worst customer service in Macon (which is saying something), then by all means go to Mikata. It'll be a meal you'll never forget. As for me, three strikes (in one meal) and you're out.

I really hope this place goes out of business before someone winds up in the hospital as a result of having eaten here.

As for the reviewers who give this place anything more than 2 stars, I'm willing to bet most of them have never even tried real sushi. You'd have to be insane, or from middle Georgia, to think that this is what sushi is supposed to be like.

The staff at Mikata is GREAT!  They are super sweet and attentive.

The hibachi is okay and reasonably priced (lacked in flavor and the beef was very chewy) but it seems that that is just my opinion as the 2 parties next to me seemed to really enjoy their food with extra special house sauce.

Holy Escolar.  I was on my way back from FL after eating at my favorite sushi restaurant in Gainesville not thinking Macon had anything to offer.  After reading a few reviews I felt confidant it was worth the 6 miles from the hotel.   I travel constantly and try more sushi restaurants than mercury laws should allow.   I was amazed at the quality of the cuts. (Sushi and sashimi) and good lord the size if these cuts!   I had to make the comment " just for 1 right?"  I had no idea Macon held a gem.  I will definitely make this a staple on my trips south.

    Got some take out.
The Rainbow roll was one of the biggest I ever had. Very good quality sushi.
The added an extra tempura fried salmon slice with that special sauce and it was great!

First of all the business Info. is incorrect. This place is kid friendly, they do take out, & accept credit cards. This is the best sushi place in middle GA. Get there early to avoid a long wait. The sushi is so good they have the best rolls. The hibachi grill is great too half the price of Benihana's. This was our 3rd time here and it has been great every time. Good mixed drinks too.

Not only is their food incredible, so is their customer service! My boyfriend use to live in Atlanta and raved about how great Mikata's was. We were staying up in the Buckhead area and decided to make the hour and half drive to Macon for Mikata's. We walked in only to find out that they had just closed hibachi. I told the man behind the counter, we just drove an hour and a half to eat here. He said ok, one moment. Next thing you know, we had our own private hibachi table for two. Our service was amazing and even though they were going to be closing, we were not rushed at all. They took their time to make us comfortable.

To start you get the typical soup and salad. However, the salad dressing is unlike any hibachi salad dressing I have ever had. The flavor and the taste were out of this world. It was the best salad dressing I have ever had. We each ordered the steak, chicken and shrimp hibachi. The flavor alone from the food was great, but then there are the two sauces they give for dipping. I am not sure what the sauces are made of, but my mouth is water just thinking about them. I have never been to a hibachi place and liked the dipping sauces. The sauce put the hibachi over the top!

Overall I give Mikata's a 5 out of 5. The restaurant was very clean including the restrooms. The staff is very friendly. The only thing I would change would be to have Mikata's sell their salad dressing and dipping sauces! This place is a must go to if you are in the Macon area!
