    Surprisingly awesome happy hour.

Garlic chicken wings are $5 and are so crispy and yum. Pinot Grigio is $5 and also yum. They also have sliders and fish tacos and the like.

The sea bass is also good. I like how it is prepared. It is nice to have dinner and then hit a movie. Pretty good date night.

Here's the inside scoop: This place has one of my favorite happy hours in the city.

    Here's why:

    - The Garlic Chicken Wings are $5. These are no ordinary wings and they give you at least 8 or 9. They came out pipping hot, extra crispy with loads of fresh minced garlic on top. The bleu cheese it comes with is also house made and ridiculously delicious. I would even go as far as to say these are the best wings I have ever had, and I am a wing fanatic.

    - Codwich Sliders are $5 Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. Good bun and fresh toppings.

    - A side of old bay French Fries is ONLY $1!! WHAT?! Nuff said.

    - $3 Domestics, $4 Mixed Drinks, and $5 Wines.

Let me also say that the "well drinks" are not actually wells. Our server let us know that their well whisky was Jack Daniels, and their well gin was New Amsterdam. I got a gin and tonic and my boyfriend got a whisky and we just couldn't believe the prices and the amount they gave us!

    Happy Runs: Monday-Friday | 4-7pm, Sunday | 5-10pm
    Late Night | Monday-Thursday | 9-11pm

I know what you're thinking, this place is a chain, and it's located at Newport on the Levee? Throw out all your inhibitions and get your ass here. You will not regret it.

My boyfriend and I came here on a quiet Tuesday night hoping to spend a relaxing night by the river away from our grad school responsibilities.  Upon entering the resturant, we were kindly escorted to our seats.  The food was average, nothing to brag about really.  However, what I do remember is the way that our waiter treated us.  It wasn't awful, just a tad bit offensive.  Sure, we look young.. we're only 22 after all. However, I would really appreciate if we were treated as adults and not as children.  He was much less serious about his service to us than he did to the older couple at the table next to us. Wouldn't come back here.

Top notch seafood restaurant with great service. I've been to the best seafood places at the Jersey shore and this fish market/ restaurant is just as good.  Loved the garlic sauce.  Seafood gumbo not as good as hyped. Sourdough bread is not good. So skip the bread and soup and order entrees.

There's a nice display where you can see how fresh the seafood is for that day - so that's nice. Clam chowder was just so so. Lobster bisque was exceptionally good..it was creamy with just enough lobster bits. The oysters are very fresh, which is saying a lot for a place in the middle of the country. Calamari are light and crunchy - not bad. The scallops in the entree that I ordered were not cleaned well and were quite gritty so that made my meal less enjoyable. However, I still gave this place a 3 because I was able to try other dishes that were good.

OK. I was not expecting this quality of service.

My wife and I like to go to 2-3 different restaurants for our anniversary each year, and usually we like to go here because they typically have given us a coupon each year for a free app, and my wife loves a menu item that they have taken off the menu, but will make it for her every year even though it is not on the menu.

So, now that we have a baby girl in our family we did not get to go here for our anniversary, and so we had my parents visiting and we took advantage of it. We planned a movie that evening and we were hoping for a fast meal then movie. We arrived and I told the greeter that we were in a little bit of a hurry to try to make it to a movie. (granted they were not too busy on a Thursday night) But they immediately asked me when the movie was. I told him in about an hour and 10 mins. He proceeded to ask me if we had purchased the ticket yet. We hadn't. So, he first offers to send a server to the theater and buy our tickets for us. We agreed (blown away by the customer service), I gave him some cash and he ran off. The server offered the specials And I told him we were running short on time. He then told me that if anyone is running off for a movie that our order would automatically be shoved to the front of the list in the kitchen. He then said he talked to a manager and our expired coupon would be honored!! We had a wonderful meal and we knew we were cutting it close for the movie, then the server said, "Here's the deal, go make yourself sick by eating too fast, I will put your left over food and place it in our walk in freezer and you can just come back to the restaurant after the movie and it will be here waiting for you!"

    Holy COW! THAT's CUSTOMER SERVICE!

So, how's the food? Very good quality food every time we've been there. Crab cakes are great, and they always have a great daily fresh raw oysters that you can get a sampler from all of the east and west coast to compare them. My wife's dish she loves that has ben removed, but they will make it is some dish that is similar to an Alfredo sauce, but with a unique cheese and crab meat.

I order a steak with a great lump crab meat topping! Steak was cooked to order perfectly, and the topping was outstanding!

If you order tea it will come in a larger glass vase, and one year we expressed where they bought it so we could go find one, and THEY GAVE IT TO US! Again, we have had nothing but excellent service here!

We had a fabulous meal here from beginning to end!  The folks working here were attentive, the food was great, and of course the view doesn't hurt!  I had the scallops mixed in with other seafood, which was delicious.  The cocktails were well done as well.  I was really impressed with the menu because it offers a lot of choices especially for people who may not want just seafood.  This was definitely worth the walk over from Cincinnati!  Oh and the dessert!  The double vanilla ice cream was right on!

Mitchell's was pretty quiet when I was there but that I am sure was because of the early hour. The waitress had a hard time finding us but after they realized we were there the service improved dramatically. There was a nice selection of seafood that I thought was moderately priced. The dish was good but not out of this world.

Great ambiance...sit outside in the back overlooking the Ohio River...gumbo was excellent....Yellowfin tuna was prepared just right for me and the other 3 I was with equally enjoyed their meals...

Overall, a very good take for seafood...there is even a shuttle bus that will take to to the ball park from the Landing, where Mitchell's is located...

I love this place and I come over and over.  The hostess is always very friendly, and the waiter or waitress seems very competent, and is attentive.  I have never felt rushed or ignored.  I always, always, get lobster bisque.  I am from New England, and this is as good as any I've had there.  For my dinner I usually get some kind of steak, and it is always delightful.  Don't believe I've had any desserts.  The feel of the place is comfortable yet upscale - like you are pampered and you know the food will be awesome.  I've also just come in for a drink at the bar - and there too, the people working know their job.  If you ask for something it is like - of course!!  You can have anything you want!  So yeah, I love MFM.

My sister and I came here on the weekend and we were quickly greeted by a friendly hostess and brought to our seats. Our waitress for the night was nice, she told us the specialties and gave us time to browse the menu. She came back to check up on us and made sure that we were well taken care of throughout the night, great service!

For appetizers, we ordered the Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake and the Char-Broiled Oysters. We also ordered Lobster Bisque, Blackened Rainbow Trout and Lobster and Shrimp Stuffed Cod. The crab cake is one of their signature items and even though there was a good amount of crab and it was definitely fresh, it was also kind of salty. Well, they served it on top of corn and peppers, which balanced the saltiness just a little. The Oysters were pretty good, but I think they could've cut back on the parmesan a bit, I would like to taste the Cajun butter more! The Lobster Bisque was a tad salty, but still delicious! I really liked the stuffed cod, especially since they served it with a heavy lemon butter sauce; it wasn't drenched in it, just there if you want it! The fish was fresh and the portion was decent sized! I'm not a fan of trout, but it was pretty good too, very flavorful as blackened food should be!

Nothing blew me away, but it was pretty good overall. The appetizers and the bisque were on the salty side, but I guess that's alright. At least the main dishes were a-ok! Yes, this place is pricey, but it's seafood!

I really liked Mitchell's Fish Market.  It is located in a nice plaza across from a Coldstone... YUM!

I ordered a lobster tail and baked potato.  They were both average.  I left full and happy. My coworker got the salmon and it was tiny (although in a heavy, buttery sauce). If you are hungry you may want to try a different dish.

Wifey & I came in for brunch, solely due to the outside sign that commented on their "famous" crab cakes, and $3.00 Bloody Marys. Sold!

We were seated immediately, as the after church crowd had yet to gather in. After about 10 minutes, our server, who appeared to already be stressed (no crowd yet) took our drink order, and then commented on how he'd be teaming up with another server. OK, like I said, there wasn't a crowd yet?

Twenty minutes later, wifey's mimosa, and my bloody arrived, with...guess what? Alas, menus! Oh, but wait, wifey had already gone up to the counter to grab these, and we clearly had enough time to peruse through the menu items, so we immediately gave our order to the disgruntled server. We ordered the following:

2 orders of Crab Cakes, and 1 Lobster Po'boy, to share. Another 20 minutes later, our food arrived. Usually, at a nice restaurant, the server will request that a shared order, will be split onto 2 plates. No, our dumbass server just dropped the food off, as if we were cattle about to graze. Drinks empty, but not a peep out of this momo, until I asked for another round.

As far as the food, the crab cakes were amazing- actually, some of the best I've ever had. The Lobster Po'boy was simply average. The drinks that sat empty were obviously really good, and I would've highly enjoyed another, but it never arrived, but the check...yep, you guessed it. It was on there. Dumb server had the memory to add it to the bill, but suffered a lapse in memory as far as picking it up from the bar.

Since we were obviously in Mitchells way too long, for a quick brunch, it was good that the neighboring booth was an entertaining couple. We enjoyed listening to their scam, while we waited, waited, and waited some more. Here's a bit (almost verbatim) of what we heard:

Entertaining Couple: Heyz, lets me ax yous sumthin, "Itz my birfday, whats I gets fo free today.

Their Server: We can give you a free dessert.

Entertaining Couple: Well, Im alsos a senior citizen, so whats els I gets?

Their Server: Uh, ok {Realizes that this will be the table from hell / perplexed look on his face} When is your Birthday?

Entertaining Couple: {Confused look, as he was just thrown a curve} long pause {Think Bubbles} Spews out some day, which didn't make him old enough to be a senior.

Their Server: {Laughing} You ain't no senior citizen; you're too young, but I'd be glad to give you a free dessert, even though it's not your Birthday.

Entertaining Couple: {While slugging down fruity drinks as if were the last day on Earth} Yo, gas is too damn expensive, cants you helps a brutha out?

The server walked away, and probably wrote off this table as a loss. They probably drank $50.00 in liquor, just while I was there, but "gas is too damn expensive." Go figure.

Nevertheless, we were glad that the "entertaining couple" was sitting next to us, because it gave us something to laugh at, while we waited, waited, and waited, for our slothful, and forgetful server.

Take the under on the tip (our table, and the booth next to us). I'll return to a Mitchell's- just not to this location again.

    Good food - shitty service!

WOW! Am I really have oysters this fresh in Cincy? What a little gem this place is. Decor is straight out of Hyannis Port. A little bar are to wait on a busy night or smooze clients while you wait for a table.

The portions were more than on person should attempt on a small appetite. I started off with the Oyster Sampler which can be a bit risky when not on the coast and shrimp cocktail. The oysters were amazingly fresh and tasty. The shrimp cocktail came with no fewer than 14 shrimp. 7 plain with cocktail sauce and 7 cajun with remoulade sauce. The Cajun was wicked spicy even for me but the remoulade sauce cooled an enhanced the flavor. I'am so glad that I skipped on the rest of the bread.

Andrew the waiter was very pleasant and  let me know that he was going to fire my order as soon as I was done with the apps. The Seafood Americana was way different than I envisioned. The Sauce was an amazing cream married up nicely with the vegatables and  seafood. I only wish I had found this place 6 years ago when I first started working in Cincy!

We came to Mitchell's for lunch. The service was outstanding! I ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was REALLY good! Everyone really enjoyed the food. The location is perfect. We tried to sit outside, but I suppose sitting outside the day after Thanksgiving, no matter how beautiful it appears, is not a great idea. We were in the shade and it was WINDY! Still, they were nice enough to clean up a table for us and then accommodated us when we decided it was too cold to stay outside.

Kudos for above average service and very good food. We'll definitely come back, maybe in the spring when sitting outside with the beautiful view is a good idea, weather permitting.

This place was pretty good. A menu with a nice broad selection, great atmosphere, and good service.

As for the food, we tried the Asian-style calamari appetizer, which I've seen elsewhere at this point, but still tasty. I had tuna for my entree... you have several options for how they prepare it, which changes the sides that come with it as well. I tried their signature cocktail made with elderberry juice(?), which was very delicious and not too sweet.

A bit pricey for me, but I suppose you pretty much get what you pay for here. They didn't quite blow me away, though.

Wow! First of all, the owner of Hannoush Jewelers paid for our meal for a group of 10 people. When it is paid for, it makes the food taste 10 X better. Bill was over $ 700.00

Ok, started with the battered shrimp appetizer, then onto the seafood combinations of raw oyster, which most people did not want. I think I ate all 10 raw oysters...mmm yummy. Ate some jumbo shrimps, fried calamari. And very very rare thinly sliced beef. The little mini loaf of bread and there whipped butter.

Onto the main course. I first ordered there New England clam chowder, incredible that you can taste a lot of the clams in the chowder, most of the time all you taste the potatoes and soup. Main entree. I ordered the broiled Swordfish layer on top of fresh steamed seasoned rice. Laid around the swordfish was cooked spinage. There was a sweat tasted soy sauce on the bed of the steamed rice, wow was that good. I drank 2 large glasses of sweet wine. Then onto the Moohitoes. I had 6 glasses. I got drunk. I also ate so much. I did not order desert. I would highly recommend this place.

The BF and I like to go out for a nice dinner, so we chose Mitchell's for out "date night." I like that you can make reservations on Open Table. Since this was our nice dinner out, we went all out. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, but when presented with the option of spicy or regular we didn't know what to do. So, our server offered the option of half-and-half. It was a great choice. The spicy shrimp was seasoned with Old Bay...something I would never have thought of, but it was hit. The shrimp was very fresh and the seasoning a great complement. The amount of shrimp was very generous. The BF ordered the seafood gumbo, which he said was very good and spicy. I ordered a Caesar salad.

Normally, I order fish with the Shanghai preparation (teriyaki, sticky rice...very tasty), but I thought I would be different, especially since they had Copper River salmon on the menu. I ordered it broiled, which comes with mashed potatoes (YUM!) and steamed vegetables of the day. The BF ordered grilled trout, which came with the same accompaniments. The food, as usual, was very good. Even though we were very full, we couldn't pass up the house-made mango sorbet. The sorbet was light and refreshing and a wonderful finish to a great meal.

Typically, service at Mitchell's is outstanding and this night was no exception. I've never had a bad meal and only wished we could afford to eat here more often.

Mitchell's is a fabulous place for really fresh seafood. Many varieties are on display in glass, iced cases. I think I read on the menu where items are flown in fresh daily.

You can order off the menu or ask for them to prepare your seafood a specific way. The cooks will accommodate you. I like shrimp, oysters and scallops. I tend to not do them fried since most places over cook any/all fish. Not so with Mitchell's. Fried seafood platter had huge scallops lightly fried and melt in your mouth tender. Try the clam chowder- WOW.

Let's start this by saying i'm not a fan of fish but I would expect a fish market to know how to cook lobster tails. I had the twin tail special which were ok but overcooked.

The service was excellent and the salad was decent, but I've had better.

Does anyone besides me find it disturbing that the Aquarium is next door?

Full disclosure - I HATE seafood.  I can't stand the taste or smell, which is probably why I actually enjoyed my time at Mitchell's.  I went with my CEO and my boss, both who ordered fish and it was cooked perfectly, without the horrible cheap fish-y smell.  The ability to substitute chicken for the fish and shrimp options in salad made my day.  The salad was one of the best I ever had and the staff was wonderful.

Great atmosphere, terrific staff and no fishy smell!  A+ in my book.

Had a great experience here last night--these people are serious about customer service! I had a fairly lukewarm experience a while back and wrote about it and someone from their corporate office contacted me, acknowledged my feedback, and personally invited me back along with a gift card for my next visit. Impressive, but the food still has to stand on it's own merits so we went back to try again.

We started with the crab, spinach, and artichoke dip and it was delicious--rich and creamy without being overly heavy. As a service point, our waiter (Jeff) noticed that we were running out of flatbread to dip before the dip and brought us out more. We had a lot of questions about the wine menu which he asked the bartender for us and then when we wanted to know more about one specific wine, he brought the manager over who gave a great description and totally sold us on what turned out to be an excellent bottle of CA Viognier.

I got the Fish House Trio because I was debating between the Cedar-planked Salmon and Scallops and this dish had both along with some blackened Tilapia. The salmon was good, cooked to a perfect medium and the tilapia's blackening was very flavorful, without being overwhelming. I didn't love the scallops because they were done in an Asian sauce that I found too strong for the delicate flavor of the scallops and I missed the textural contrast of a nice butter sear.

To top off the evening, they brought us a (complimentary) slice of their Shark Fin Pie and oh my goodness...if you ever have room for dessert there, order that to share!  And sweet-talk, distract, or just outright steal as much of the Oreo crust as you can. We walked alway stuffed and really impressed with how committed everyone there is to making their diners happy.

Yes, this place is a chain restaurant. Yes, it's in Newport on the Levee, a place synonymous with loud, ignorant teens who haven't been hit with the reality stick yet. And yes, it's less than 100 feet away from the Newport Aquarium, which translates to a slap in the face of marine biologists and sea life everywhere. However, it's also a great combination of fresh seafood and fantastic ambiance, and that's why this is one chain restaurant I fully plan on returning to again and again.

Outdoor seating when the weather is nice offers a great view of the deceptively beautiful Cincinnati skyline, and a chance to people watch the fine populace of Newport. Indoors, the atmosphere is calm and fairly classy, and nice for a date. I'd rather take a girl to the Charthouse (just down the street), but Mitchell's isn't bad at all.

Last time I was here, I dropped around $45, which included a beer, small oyster sampler, entree, and tip. Not too bad at all, but definitely nothing I'd make a habit of haha.

Definitely try: the Market Trio, a plating of salmon, tilapia, and scallops, accompanied by some of the biggest asparagus spears I've ever seen. The oyster sampler is also a great choice for an appetizer.

Definitely avoid: the Seafood Combination Platter. I really should have known better than to order something with "Platter" in the title. After I peeled away most of the fried batter from the cod and other seafood, I was left with not much fish and a whole lot of fried leftovers.

Finally, if you want to challenge yourself (or if you're just a glutton), get the Sharkfin for dessert. It took me and two friends to finish off this monstrous slice of ice cream cake filled with fudge, chocolate, and peanut butter. It's delicious, but disastrous.

I'm from a coastal Massachusetts town of lobsterers and fishermen. When my wife, who is from the Cincy area, told me that I needed to try a seafood restaurant in Kentucky... well, I'll admit that I fully intended to be a jerk and end up saying something like, "you think THIS is seafood?!". Luckily for me, the food at Mitchell's gave me no opportunity to be such a chode.

I've been to Mitchell's a few times now and every time the food and service are excellent. The menu is laid out in a way that gives you plenty of options without being too large.

The one missing star is that Mitchell's doesn't have a ton of soul, if ya dig. A nice-ish place, but the decor won't knock your socks off. Very good food, but no trademark dish that cannot be had somewhere else. Basically, Mitchell's on the waterfront is about as good as a Midwestern seafood chain restaurant can be.

I came here once last year, but I'm reviewing now because I am having nostalgia about the overall great experience. It's perfect for a "fancier" date, but the food is moderately priced and casual attire still the norm, which of course I appreciate. It's dimly, yet warmly lit with dark wood furniture and nautical decor.

Since Mitchell's is a chain on the poisonous Ohio River no less, I was expecting your run-of-the-mill seafood options: salmon, halibut, shrimp. Instead, the menu had things like trout, Atlantic cod, and red snapper. The regular options were there too, but another thing that impressed me was that the seafood was advertised as FRESH and from locations all over the nation and the world. We ordered oysters for the appetizer, and I had pecan-crusted trout as my entree with mashed potatoes and string beans. I love trout and I was so excited to just be able to order it here, and the taste of my entire meal was truly incredible.

Unfortunately, my date did not experience such euphoria with his swordfish. That is why I usually steer clear of both swordfish and Asian soy sauce-based glazes. Just a word to the wise. But back to me...I myself had an excellent time here with no complaints. I plan on coming back on another classy(ish) date someday!

Absolutely delicious food in a beautiful setting. The service is outstanding, and friendly. The menu is huge and offers a wide selection of fresh fish. I had my birthday here while visiting family in Cincinnati and I couldn't have been more pleased.

Best king crab legs I have ever had. I was in a shellfish induced coma and I loved every minute of it. There is a Mitchells closer to my mothers house in West Chester but we make the drive to this one because it's the best. The beautiful Ohio river and views of downtown Cincinnati are just steps away.

    YUM!

To be honest, I've only been to Mitchell's twice in the five years I've lived in Cincinnati.  It's in a nice location.  The food was good, although somewhat overpriced.  It's been said that this is the best place to get seafood in the city.  Whether this is true or not, I really couldn't say.  What I can tell you is that I enjoyed the times that I've been there.  It's not necessarily a place I would go to on a regular basis (obviously since I've only been there twice in five years) but if it was a special occasion, it might be a nice location to take the wife for a quiet dinner away from the kids.

However, I do have to point out that I find it more than a bit disturbing and somewhat off-putting to see this seafood restaurant right next to the aquarium.  Makes me wonder where they get the fish.  I can't believe I'm the only one who's bothered by this.  Even just a little bit.

    Mahalo, and enjoy.

The location is quite pleasant and the atmosphere is nice, but it is a little disconcerting because it is in the same vicinity as the Newport Aquarium...
Regardless, Mitchell's serves some of the best seafood in Cincinnati. I started out with a cup of the lobster bisque. It was very smooth and creamy and was topped off with just a hint of spiciness. For my entree, I had the cedar-plank salmon with balsamic vinegar and a vegetable medley (eggplant, asparagus, tomato, to name a few). The salmon was cooked beautifully, and the plating was so well done that I almost didn't want to eat the fish. The vegetables and the salmon went well together, but the vinegar was a little overwhelming and took away some of the flavor.
Overall, this restaurant is very good and I highly recommend it.

Pretty good fish. Plenty of options and mostly very fresh. We had better results with the simpler preparations--if you stick to broiled, salads, fish sandwiches you'll be OK. The more you test the menu the more you risk disappointment.  Our experience was that the service was friendly fast and competent.

For a nice and simple fish dinner before a movie next door...that's the kind of occasion I think Mitchell's shines.

On a recent business trip to Cincinnati, I liked Mtchell's so much I went two days in a row!

I first went on a Saturday night.  The place was PACKED, perhaps one of the most crowded restaurants I have been to in a while.  Unfortunately, despite being told that I would be seated in 45 minutes to an hour, it took nearly an hour and a half to get a table.  I know that times they give you are an estimate, but my experience has been that restaurants' estimates are sometimes worst case and often you get seated early.  They should really review their software's ability to manage customer load during peak times.

However, once I got to my table things definitely improved.  The decor is very much weathered, seaport fish market.  I began with a seared tuna appetizer and seared was a generous term as there was little part of the edge of the fish that had been cooked.  However, being a f an of sushi and sashimi, I was fine with this.  The tuna slices were arranged over a mound of sushi rice with tasty soy-based glaze.  However, I was disapointed that the dish was topped with thinly sliced cucumber.  I absolutely loathe cucumber and unfortunately, I was able to taste this even after I removed it.  If I were to get that dish again, I would ask them to hold the cucumber and I think it would be excellent.

My entree was the blackened rainbow trout.  The blackened fish had an excellent cajun flavor.  It was served over a bed of rice with jambalaya shrimp and andouille sauce.  The tiny shrimp in the sauce really added to the dish, but the sauce flavor was a little thin and tomatoey for my taste.

I topped off the meal with a slice of key lime pie.  It had a great flavor and was topped with whipped creme and nuts.  The consistency was a little thicker and more firm than I personally like, but it did not take away from the excellent dessert.

I do want to note that before I left, my server brought me two cards for free appetizers because of my long wait to be seated. This was very impressive because I had not complained about the length of my wait.  That to me says something about their attention to customer service!

On the second visit, I started with the Old Bay peel and eat shrimp.  The shrimp are served over ice with remoulade and cocktail sauces.  They provide a stainless steel bowl, appropriately dinged and distressed to fit the ambience, for discarding shrimp shell.  Also, a warm towel is provided for cleaning the messy Old Bay seasoning you wind up having all over your hands.  I was very impressed at just how many shrimp you got!  That could have been an entree alone!

My entree was the Shang Hai sampler which included salmon, scallops and shrimp over spinach and rice with a ginger soy sauce.  This was an EXCELLENT dish.  The scallops were flavorful but not overpowering (I am not a big scallop fan so this impressed me) and the shrimp were perfectly cooked as was the salmon.

No dessert this time though.  A nice touch was that my server from the previous night stopped by to talk and we compared the two dishes from both visits.

My business trip is over, but if I were going to be here another couple of days, I may well have found myself back at Mitchell's!

One note about their location.  They are in Newport on the Levee which is a great collection of shops and entertainment on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.  I love these type of retail developments, but be warned parking is paid.  Saturday night was five dollars while Sunday was only three.  Between 11-2 and from Monday to Thursday, parking is free for their Lunch on the Levee promotion.

Mitchell's Fish Market has some of the freshest fish in town. Sitting just outside of Newport on the Levee proper next to Barnes & Noble, Mitchell's has all kinds of seafood available to its patrons.

The big draw here is the fresh catch of the day. They prepare it in four ways, blackened, broiled, grilled, or Asian dependent on your mood. Be it perch, seabass, salmon; whatever the catch of the day is you can know that it'll be good.

My dad always loves to get scallops and the ones he got at Mitchell's were great. The meal is fresh and it's nice to have lighter fare every once in awhile.

After my second visit to Mitchell's Fish Market, I'm pretty underwhelmed. Steep prices and uninspired dishes make me feel like I've been cheated. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is sophisticated without being stuffy (though the location is a little disconcerting, being next door to the Aquarium), yet I doubt this restaurant will be on my list of top seafood joints.

We tried the lump blue crab and spinach dip ($12.95) which was topped with sun-dried tomatoes and served with pita chips. Big chunks of crab meat were found throughout the creamy dip, which was so scrumptious we didn't leave even a tablespoon's worth in the dish. Shared between three people, this app was ample enough to stave off our appetites.

Though our appetizer was great, our entrees were just average. My lump crab cake and broiled shrimp plate was served with herbed corn and mashed potatoes ($22.95). The potatoes were mediocre and the corn tasted frozen. As for the main course, my crab cake did actually contain mostly crab meat instead of breading, yet the dish lacked flavor. My three seasoned boiled shrimp were well cooked (not too tough or dried out), but they too were not a stand-out item.

After sampling my family's meals, I discovered the hush puppies were on par with Long John's and that the blue crab and shrimp Alfredo was nothing stellar because the crab meat was disintegrated until it became unrecognizable from the sauce.

The food wasn't bad, as we all ate until we were stuffed; however, at these inflated prices I'll look elsewhere when dining for seafood (I'll try Oceanaire or McCormick and Schmick's). If you're looking for upscale dining at the Levee, go to Reserve. You'll spend the same amount and have far better culinary experience

I first heard of this restaurant when I was looking on google maps for local fish, meat, and ethnic markets. I stumbled upon what seemed to be a fish market in Newport. I was assuming they sold fish and I was wrong!

It's a restaurant and not a fish market so don't be deceived! I dined here the other night while looking for a place to eat in Newport and I realized that they were the same place. Their appetizers and entrees are both pretty pricey. The appetizers will run you around $10 and the entrees will be $15 or more.

They have two menus. One is a list of about 10 different types of fish that you can have prepared many different ways. The second menu is their signature dishes. I had a mixed plate of the scallops with an Asian preparation with a sweet ginger taste. On the side was blackened tilapia and cedar planked salmon. Everything was cooked to perfection except for the vegetables which were a little too crunchy for my tastes. Then for desert I had a slice of the key lime pie. It was good, but was very sweet.

Mitchell's is an excellent seafood restaurant located at the Levee. I have eaten inside and on the patio several times, always at dinner, and both the food quality and service are always superb. The servers are consistently helpful and attentive.

Try the Shang Hai preparation on one of the fresh catches; it's a ginger and soy based sauce with sticky rice, scallions and spinach. I also like the blackened salmon spinach salad as a lighter dinner choice and the Voodoo BBQ shrimp and portabella bruschetta as appetizers. The oysters on the half shell are excellent also.

For the non seafood lovers, there are a few chicken and steak options.
