Moose McGillycuddy's is your favorite local dive bar relocated to where you're vacationing in Maui. My friends and I went here on a Friday night in Lahaina after finishing dinner, and found ourselves greeted with some tall tall bevies of the alcoholic variety. Certainly look at their featured cocktail list but understand you are getting yourself into trouble with how big those glasses are! We also had the chips and guacamole - it came with a giant basket of chips but one very small portion of guac you had to pay extra for with the two small salsas. The portions of sauce to chip ratio just seemed rather off to me. The waitress had literally started a week prior but was actually pretty on top of her stuff as she was one of two for the whole bar --- ON A FRIDAY. Finally, the bar features a pole to dance on in the side area which they cleared out and then put on blaring music. No one was dancing, but I'm sure after several LARGE cocktails and some late night hours, there are certainly shenanigans involving that pole.

This food and service was amazing. Shout out to them for having cider beer too. Great service, vibe, staff and food. Next time I am in Maui, I am coming back for more ;)

We were told to come here during our stay in lahaina. I think we went back6 more times. It was playoff season so we went to watch a bunch of games and every time we had an amazing experience. Food was pub food but it was surprisingly good. The beer was cold and cheap and the staff very friendly. On Wednesdays they had 6.95 burgers I thought were better then cheese burger in paradise down the road. Tuesdays and Saturdays were dollar draft beer after 9 but you had to pay a 5 dollar cover charge. Still a great deal! Over all many great experiences! Thanks Moose's

Waiter was a dick.  He had the nerve to joke me about my beer selection right off the bat, and not in a funny way, either.  The food wasn't hot and he brought me the wrong check at the end of the meal then made me wait another 15 minutes while he took orders and brought another table their drinks and food.  If I ever get back to Maui, I'll avoid the place as well as tell anyone I know who goes there to avoid it.

Good drinks and a great atmosphere. The kailua pig sandwich was excellent. Really ideal location as it is right in Kihei near the resorts. The staff was very friendly and although there wasnt anything overly special about the place or the food, it turned out to be a pretty good spot. i will try to go back to try some other items to get a better idea of the menus items.

We were almost scared away by other reviews, but my wife had fried Mahi Mahi and chips and I had a delicious Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. I would order it again in a heartbeat! Our server was friendly and the food came out in good time. We would definitely come back. Even the Mai Tai had plenty of kick to it. Not skimping on the rum!

After a fabulous night with a wedding rehearsal dinner on the grounds of the Waikiki aquarium, I brought a bunch of folks to a great dive bar around the corner from here I had been to before. They left before I did, and on the way back out to get a cab at 1am we saw they had been bar hopping and were now in line at Moose's.

I gave one of the guys I know from San Francisco a hug over the red velvet rope (they were about 6 people away from the door) and my flamboyant gay friend and I got playful and he suggestively touch me - but it was clearly playful and not nasty or a big deal. This is a Saturday night in Waikiki in line to pay $7 at a dive bar. And as I am saying hello to someone else - this huge bouncer with a ponytail yells at my gay friend he cannot come in now. Everyone was flummoxed. I calmly walked over to the bouncer and asked why - and he said my friend was too drunk.

This seemed to me a pretty obvious case of discrimination. The blonde women in front of them were getting let in and could barely stand and were super loud. My perception especially based on the way this guy spoke to me (I was holding hands with my partner - I think that completed the picture for him) and the fact we were all dressed up by Waikiki standards from the dinner - I believe this bouncer clocked my friends as being alterative and didn't want him in there. He was looking for an excuse.

Don't go to this place and Moose's should hire better people.

I'm not sure if we came at the wrong time or the waiter couldn't multi-task considering we were his only customer at lunch but the service was terrible, I drank all 4 cups of water that was served to our party of 4 with no refill. I ordered their breakfast which resulted in old crusty and mushy mixed rice. I don't understand the cook who sent my plate out, how can you feed that to people and the audacity to think that someone will eat it. Never again because I care about my health!

Our server was great, a real "people person" and made us feel welcome.  The food was okay, not great.  Taco Tuesday had some great prices on tacos, and they were pretty tasty.  Pork sandwich was pretty bland, needed some kind of seasoning or sauce on it.  We sat by the rail and had a great view of the street below so we could see what was going on.

I was there a couple weeks ago and had the Grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich. It was delicious, service was good and of course it's in Maui so you can't really go wrong!

Our hotel recommended coming here on Saturday night for $1 drinks and for some fun.. But we missed going that night. Ended up walking in there Sunday afternoon and so glad we did! The bar was fairly empty which made it that much more fun!! Our bartenders Brian and Kayla were mad real and a lot of fun, and the manager Matt was absolutely great! They all took care of us and made our evening a blast! Can't wait to visit again!

Don't try coming here trying to scrutinize the cuisine & atmosphere for your next Yelp review.  This place dishes up a bunch of deep-fry-pub-grub in large portions at reasonable prices - perfect if you have been stuck in a catamaran ride only eating saltine crackers for hours.  To make matters better, they don't rip you off for cocktails and beer - also perfect if you have been stuck in a catamaran ride sober for hours and are in need of an immediate buzz.  No, the view from the front is not of the sun setting on the ocean, rather it is an open balcony raised above Front street (sort of a New Orleans feel to it?).  That's actually perfect too if you've been stuck in a catamaran for hours and have seen enough water to last the rest of your vacation.  And the spunky waitresses that are full of personality?  Well, that's perfect also if you've been stuck on a catamaran for hours with a bunch of annoying....eh, well you get it.

Haven't been here for Lunch or Dinner....although I have been told that both offer pretty decent offers. However Breakfast is a whole other matter.....there is simply not a cheaper place for breakfast on Maui. Now here is the trick though.....GET THERE EARLY I mean REAL EARLY. They truly have EARLY BIRD SPECIALS and while the wife and I didn't get there REAL EARLY we did get there EARLY enough to get a very decent breakfast for a very good price. The only reason it doesn't get more stars is because even EARLY it's crowded....parking is a headache.....and the service is slow....however the food is decent. If you have the patience and you should since you will probably be on vacation....LOL....then take at least one morning to try this spot out. Eat, Drink, and be Merry my Friends!!!!!

Wow what happened to this place? Slow service, cold food, but a server who knew how to satisfy the unhappy customer. He is the reason for two stars otherwlse it would be a one star review.

Good location on the main drag in downtown Lahaina. Thought we'd stop in for a drink and lunch while shopping. Not the best choice and won't do so again on future visits to Maui unless I read about a change in managaement.

Many other better options in Lahaina for a drink and meal.

We ate a pre airport breakfast here and the food was pretty good until I found a hair cooked into my eggs. Our server was really nice and offered me a replacement and took it off our bill . I took a replacement but I was pretty grossed out and didn't finish my food. Good service overall but I don't think I would come back.

Great location, great prices, great staff and the best happy hour on the island. Stop in for a huge omelette before hitting a tour then swing by later on for happy hour. I always stop here (several times) whenever I am in Maui.

We went here after asking for a recommendation of a good cheeseburger from an employee at a shop on the street.

We ordered the Steak Fajitas and the Chicken Wrap. Both plates were not good. We joked that an Applebee's would've been a far better choice. I had a lava flow and a mai tai; they didn't fare well either.

This was definitely the worst food and drinks we had on Maui. Granted, we didn't end up ordering a cheeseburger as the place has been recommended for, but I don't think that would've made much difference.

My wife and I went in for the Tuesday night happy hour special and had a great time.  The $1 well drinks kept us socially greased for the evening, and the dance floor eventually came to life around 10pm.  We'll likely be back every time we visit Maui simply for the fun factor and drink specials.

This is a great place to catch some cheap eats and drinks in Lahaina.  It's pretty casual, and certainly attracts a unique crowd.  If you're hungry, and don't want to drop a Benjamin on dinner, it's worth checking out.

Came here for happy hour/dinner our first night on the island. I had the shrimp quesadilla and a Mai tai. Everything was a solid 3 stars, just fine. We will go back for late night happy hour later in the trip.

I've only been in here for drinks, so I can't review any food items, but the menu is pretty extensive and priced moderately.  I don't think many people will choose Moose's as a place to dine when there are tons of other restaurants nearby on bustling Front Street.

    Service:
On this particular Saturday evening, the female bartender forgot to come back and take my order after handing me the menu (I'd say a span of maybe 3 minutes,) so another female bartender checked on me and took my order.  The original bartender felt bad and comped my drink.  That was so nice of her.  I wasn't expecting anything like that, especially since no complaint or mad behaviors were displayed.

Location is great, service not so much. Always hit Moose's but not crowded and server had no personality, felt like we were putting her out. Bill said Brecken as the waitress name but she never introduced herself so who knows.

We decided to check this place out recently on a Saturday night during our trip to Maui.  It was myself and my female best friend.  The night started out about normal.  We got there fairly early, although we opted not to eat dinner here due to the numerous negative reviews we read online bashing the food.  We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar, and chatted with some friendly locals sitting next to us.  Our bartender was attentive and he made a decent drink.  The drink specials that night were good.
That is as good as this review will get!  As the night progressed and the bar got busier, service got worse.  I understand that when bars get busier, customers may need to wait a little longer for a drink.  We waited 30 MINUTES for our drinks at one point.  There were 3 bartenders and they were all busy.  If the staff can'l handle the work load, management needs to bring in more staff.  At one point I witnessed the bartender make a totally over-the-top, dramatic scene when a patron expressed his irritation over the wait time.  Such a scene that he could have easily made several drinks during that time.  I felt really bad for the customer and wanted to say something to the bartender, but figured if I did, I wouldn't get another drink all night.
Then at the very end of the evening, one of the female bartenders leaned over the bar and made a completely inappropriate comment to me about my, ummm "top", in front of several other patrons.  I found the local chicks in this bar to be extremely jealous and rude.  I could have cared less if it was another patron, but the fact that it was a staff member blew me away.   I think we would have been treated differently if we would have been there with our boyfriends, but the fact that we were two woman by ourselves threatened the local girls big time.
Unfortunately, this was the "hot spot" in Lahaina, so we didn't really go out at night  much during the rest of our trip.  If you're looking for a party in Maui, this is where everyone goes.  But prepare yourself for bad service because this place is a joke.

Came here for breakfast. Huge portion. Typical breakfast food with eggs, spam and fried rice is not good at all.

I remeber the location in waikiki tasted alot better.

I guess this place is ok for Maui, since there is not much else out there that open late. Just don't go there on off days. We came there on Sunday and it was awful. About 7 or 8 people in the bar plus 3 members of the band and wait stuff. Band was horrible and place looked just bad.

On the positive side, on the weekends they have DJ, the place is packed and it's not that bad after you get drunk. It beats me why they would do $1 drinks on Saturdays. Aren't you supposed to do it on the off day to get more people?

I guess it's not fair to Moose's to not give it a great review because honestly, I come here every time I go to Maui for one and only reason: it's the only place I know that plays really good music to dance to! Otherwise, all the other factors aren't so great: a little bit of a rough crowd as the night goes on (because on certain nights it's only $1 per drink = obnoxious drunk people) and the bartenders are not the friendliest.

But I put up with it because I love to dance and the love the music. So see ya next time I'm in Maui, Mooses....

First let me say that I am embarrassed to even be writing the review...  It is kind of like writing a review for a skin dr. or a strip club... do I really want anyone to know I hung out there?   So before I go on, I need to do some serious rationalizing...  Rtaionalization #1:  Lahaina mysteriously doesn't have much of a night life.   And every now and then it is nice to go out.   Rationalization #2:  I am Scottish and Moose's does have $1 drink nights on Tuesday and Saturday.

The $1 drink nights start at nine and I got there at ten minutes til...  they had just started charging the $5 cover.    I think if you tell them you will be getting dinner they won't so next time I might do that.   So now I am figuring that I would need to order 5 drinks to get the average cost down to $2 each.    Still a bargain for Maui!

The bar started filling up.   A lot of locals and young travelers who had met locals.   I sat at the bar and through the course of the evening I met several nice, fun people.   I ordered a Greyhound.   It cost $1 extra to get it with Absolute.   Now I am figuring 5 drinks $3 per drink average.    The people watching was first rate.   The players were on their game trolling the bar for drunk teachers from the midwest.  There were the wanna-be players who were trolling for just about anyone as long as they were stupid drunk.    I am thinking that this place is their best shot in Maui.

A large group of people next to me ordered 14 gin and tonics.   Well-gin so they got a ton of alcohol at the $1 price.  Some of them were there before me and avoided the cover.  They knew how to play this game.

I watched the bartender pour my drink, a generous shot of Absolute and a top-off of grapefruit juice.   Yet it didn't seem to have the alcohol effect.   I was kind of pleased because the 5 drink goal seemed somewhat plausable!

The bar was getting full and the DJ was turning it up a bit.    Since the dance floor is off to the side from the bar/restaurant it was still possible to carry on a conversation.    The place really was a meat market but the crowd was enjoying themselves.   Some of the tourists seemed to be leaving, with travel and all it was getting pretty late in their home time zones.   The place seemed to be mostly a local crowd...  time for the second greyhound.  Again it appeared to be a generous pour and again, no effect.  I started to wonder how could this be?    I saw him open a new bottle so I am not suggesting anything funny, maybe I am just good at holding my liqour.

The large group ordered another round of gin and tonics... They seem to do it right.

I never reached my five drink goal, I had a beer to finish off the evening.   A draft Newcastle.  It was a pint for $3.     So I figured I spent a total of $12 on three drinks and had a $4 average, with the tip it was $5.    It can be done, but at the sacrafice of a little quality.

I left early, about 11:15.   When I walked down the stairs I noticed a line to get in, probably 200 people or more!!  Wow!   Cheapskates!

    Poor rating.

Had breakfast here twice out of necessity (one of the only places I found in walking distance that serves breakfast past 11:00). The first meal, eggs, bacon (microwaved)  with fried rice was dog food. Edible but dog food quality none the less. The double screwdriver tasted like straight orange juice.

The second time, again out of necessity was the french toast with sausage. The sausage was once again dog food quality but the french toast was surprisingly decent. The french toast is why I am giving Moose Mc the 2 stars.

Both times I had to go up to the waitstaff to get my bill. I know Hawaiian time, I try to set my schedule by it but this was way too long to wait. Piss poor service but they try. A for effort? You can't get mad when people try or give the appearance that they are doing their best.

I would have liked to try this place out for evening drinks because I'm sure that's why they are still in business, but I feel as if I would have been jipped like I was on the morning booze.

Just Maui's version of Applebees. Nothing wrong with being solid food at slightly high tourist prices. But do not expect anything here that is different than the mainland.  The views from the 2nd floor to Lahiana Harbor are righteous, but the nachos taste like the cheese from a can you buy at Costco.

The bartenders do a nice job here, and have a variety of drinks for you to get.  The servers do a good job compared to a lot of Front Street joints.  All in all...decent.

Felt like their area's Hooters. Decent food at an affordable price. I don't know how rowdy it gets there at night, but there is a stripper pole on the dance floor with a sign that says all clothes must stay on!

I had the fish tacos. They were tasty. The salsa is pretty spicy. No one complained about their meal, we were so exhausted from the sun and shopping.

I had a good experience and a not good one.  One night, we came for dinner and our server got it all right with a party of 18 and no notes.  The food was surprisingly good, I had the pork but everything was good.  Burgers might not be as good as Kool Kat (see my other review).  We danced the night away as it is one of the few late night joints.

The second night the server added 3 extra beers to our bill and we busted her.  Ooops!

Shawn's tip:  Check your bill to ensure accuracy.

Unapologetic in its kitsch and general stereotype as the go-to dive bar in town, Moose McGillycuddy's is one of the few places you can really let loose late night in Lahaina. There's a DJ booth overseeing a small, but packed dance floor, a handful of arcade games in the back, 30-something TVs to get your sports fix, and full-on Americana yard-sale style crap littering the walls. And I use "crap" in the most endearing way possible.

Beware of misleading specials come their signature Saturday nights, however. After a $5 cover, there are series of beers and/or mixed drinks listed at a dollar or two apiece, and then there is the "all shots are $3" special as the kicker. After reading this, we went for Patron (duh). Well, turns out this particular liquor exists outside of the "all" category. Also turns out, once we took the shot, it wasn't even Patron. The bartender could read the displeasure across our faces and our next libations (note, in much bigger glasses than everyone else's mixed drinks) were on the house. So, I guess that sorta evened the score. Sorta.

Still, shady fine print stipulations aside, I was mucho thankful for Moose's. Maui may be paradise, but it is awfully short on nightlife if you are lookin' to put on your drinking hat and dancing shoes. And because all types of people like to party (again, duh), the bar naturally plays non-discriminatory host to a motley crew of patrons - cougars, creepers, honeymooners, you name it. While every other place in Lahaina can certainly offer you their $12 specialty cocktails, sometimes you just wanna do it up dirty and pound some cheap booze. Moose's can help you out in that department.

Moose's was exactly what my fiancee needed on a Sunday morning when his NFL team was playing.  They have a TON of TV's with the Sunday ticket package.  Good start :)

Their beer prices weren't too bad, but let's be honest, whenever you have more than 5 it adds up. But that's on the drinker!

I had lunch there before heading to the beach and I was pleasantly surprised with the calamari tacos.  Really good!!  I made sure that everyone around me ordered them too.

My fiancee left a very happy man.  One his team won, but two, the staff of the bar were very cool in buying several rounds of drinks for the SF fans.  A class act.

If you can tear yourself away from the Maui beaches (I couldn't) come here to watch a game, grab a beer and a bite to eat!

It's on the upper level with an indoor and outdoor area.  I prefer the outdoor area by the railing facing Front Street (the main drag in Lahaina) - It's fun to watch the foot traffic and what's going on below.  Nice breeze.

Service was fast and friendly. The food came quickly - it was hot and tasty. I started out with the Maui onion rings, which were nicely prepared. Can't beat those sweet Maui onions with a mild batter coating, which brings out the Maui onion's real flavor.  Next, I had the Kalua pork quesadilla, which was absolutely wonderful!  Slightly smokey, succulent pulled pork with nice, sharp cheddar cheese, fresh poblano chiles, diced tomatoes and a nice salsa.  Perfect!

Moose McGillycuddy's has no ocean view, but it's a fun place, with great service - thanks for the recommendation, t.!
