Not far from Bruce B. Downs, just across from the Wal-Mart Supercenter and back a few blocks, sits Mulligan's Irish Pub. It's part of a country club, but you don't have to be a member to eat here. The prices are reasonable (lots of $8-9 sandwiches with a cole slaw side) and there's a large covered patio out back where you can catch a breeze and smell the freshly mown turf.
Since there wasn't much for vegetarians on the menu, I consulted our server, a hearty lass and a lovely one, and she made a few wise suggestions. The one I took her up on was a vegetarian Reuben with grilled mushrooms and onions taking the place of corned beef, and I really liked it.
Jodi had a shepherd's pie; it was more like a cottage pie (it's made with beef, and shepherd's pie is correctly made with lamb) and had chunks of potato rather than a top layer of mashed potatoes. She'd order it again, though, and she's an Irish lass.
Me? I'm 1/4 Irish. I think I inherited the love of strong drink but not the musical talent, the ability to see leprechauns, or the desire to blow anyone up.
