Made reservations for a birthday, total table of 7 which turned into 9. They were very flexible.
Underrated restaurant - truly great food. We started with 3 apps, the banana peppers, sweet potato gnocchi and the crab cakes. I was not a fan of the gnocchi but the peppers and crab cakes were great.
Split a bottle of wine with a friend, the house Pinot Noir which was very good, but seriously about 80 degrees temp. Had to ask for ice, which I have never done before and do not agree with.
I had the eggplant mozzarella salad as my entrée, AMAZING!
If you are looking for a small quiet place with good food, go.
I made a reservation on a Friday night for a well-deserved night out with my boyfriend. Our server was very friendly and personable. She had a mouthful to recite with all of the specials! But she gladly repeated them not once, but TWICE for my short-attention spanned boyfriend.
The drinks came out very quickly. My boyfriend got a Sierra Nevada and I tried an apple-tini for the first time. Woo! That baby was good. I had to slow myself down on it- it was tasty as hell.
Our steak and pasta dish arrived shortly after ordering and was mouth-watering. The presentation of the pasta wasn't excellent, but what it was lacking in presentation punched me in the face when I took my first bite. Wowza! Thinking back on it, I can taste how wonderful it was. I ordered the Louisiana Pasta Delta [sausage, shrimp, and chicken with a cajun tomato cream sauce] and my boyfriend ordered the steak special of that day for $23- I think. The meat was cooked to perfection as well as the al dente squash, zucchini and something or other. Amazing.
The woman who greeted us made more than sure we had full cucumber and lemon infused waters in out ultra-fancy goblets with no ice- which I loved...that wasn't meant to sound sarcastic. Buffalo is cold enough without the ice, thank you. Beeteedubz, the water was worth the visit. So refreshing, it was!
I would go back in a heartbeat. The ambiance was warm and sexy. I loved it. The only drawbacks were the view of the gas station across the street and my boyfriend being blinded by the headlights leaving the gas pumps [a quick pull of the curtains fixed that] and the chickens squawking smack about this so-and-so and that at the bar to the bartender who looked like we wished he didn't know them. Bahaha! I could have lived without being involved in their rude and drunken conversation, but that is no fault of the restaurant. Maybe if the music was a little louder, I could have talked smack about their idiotic conversation. Haha.
But overall, our experience was lovely! Thank you, Nektar, for giving my boyfriend and me a savory experience after months upon months of being a homebodies! We aren't scared to leave the house with cozy spots like this to eat and drink.
I have been coming to Nektar over the past couple of years. It is one of my favorite locations on Elmwood if you are looking to meet someone and sit at the bar for a drink without loud racous noise, and people everywhere. Its dim lighting and quiet atmosphere allows for intimate conversation at a trendy location.
I usually don't come here to eat, although I have before and the food was very good, although a little pricey.
The bartenders and waite staff are always friendly and welcoming.
