Descent burger, very small sized side salad.  Great wait staff.  Paper napkins and a limited menu.

I had the reuben while here and this was probably the first place where I thought the coleslaw was actually good!  Service was great and my friends had the shepherds pie.  They seemed to enjoy it and thought it was a very large serving.

This establishment is definitely a place to revisit. It's a "real" Irish pub meaning that the food, music, ownership and many of the staff are of direct Irish descent.

The lamb burger is to die for and the staff is friendly and quick.  All the portions there are plenty to satisfy, have always had the staff have to give me a bag for takeaway.

Had only one issue with my order being wrong and they gave me a new item within 5 minutes which was really great.  A decent selection of beers/ales and have not had a drink their yet that they could not make!

What I love is the price of the food.  Soft drinks and meals for the wife and myself set me back about $50 or so which might sound like a lot to some but have been to far cruddier places that have charged more than that for a drink and a meal for one.

O'Faolain's is the only pub I will take my kids to. We've been probably six or eight times, and it's definitely on our regular rotation list. It's a "real" Irish pub meaning that the food, music, ownership and many of the staff are of direct Irish descent.

Last Friday we had a harrowing experience when a tire blew out on the Woodrow Wilson bridge. We were standing out in the breakdown lane as cars whizzed by for what seemed like hours until help arrived. Afterwards, I was in dire need of a burger and a beer to unwind. We went to O'Faolain's and it just happened to be Irish music night. The band "Mostly Irish" was setting up and, after hearing our tale of woe, offered to open with any Irish song we requested. (I chose "Whiskey In The Jar," and it was wonderful!)

The food has always been good, though we usually opt for burgers. I just wish they'd bring back their calamari, which was to die for.

It was a bit pricey, which is why I gave it four stars, not five. (Burgers, beverages and dessert for an adult and two kids set me back about $75 including tip.) This won't keep me from returning, I just might not go as often as I might otherwise.

But when we return, you can bet that I will call ahead to make sure we schedule it on an Irish music night!

Great dining experience!  My husband and I had the stuffed chicken with augratin potatoes, would definitely order again.  Attentive service and the owner came by to say that the dish was his mother's recipe.  Yea, a new place to go!

Had a groupon-type thing so decided to try it.

We went to lunch quite early, but left around 12:30 & were still the only ones in the dining room.  I did hear some folks in the bar area.  I really liked the decor with dark wood and red upholstery.  I found the restaurant to be freezing cold.  I switched seats at my table so the cold air wasn't blasting on my back, but was still uncomfortably cold.  Service was fine but perhaps a bit too leisurely (read slow) for lunch.

My friend got the Cheesy five onion soup and Clonakilty stuffed chicken and declared both delicious.  I had chicken pot pie.  It had tons on chunks of chicken in it, but was pretty bland.  I ordered the bread pudding for dessert because I LOVE bread pudding.  It was a huge piece, which is really too bad as it was dry and totally tasteless.

If I do return, I might get what my friend ordered or fish & chips.  But I'm not adding it to my regular rotation.

Food here is consistently decent, the bar area is a lot of fun. The bartenders are great! However, I've been here about 6 times for dinner and every single time, the service has been less than stellar. It's not that the servers aren't nice (they are) but they seem to forget about you once the food comes. Not sure what that's about.
Given that the food is alright, bar is fun and it's really close to the movie theater, I'd recommend this place.

First let me just say that I have been driving by O'Faolain for over a decade before I decided to stop in and try their fair. I have eaten there now four times and I have made up my mind.

Décor: I like what they done with the place. The Celtic angels on the windows and the dated leather and wood makes the establishment have an men's only club in Dublin. I give them a sold 3.

Clientele: This is where they go done hill for me. They have the youngish neck beard/face tattoo crowd at the bar and they are really loud. Reminds me of soccer fans in Europe. So if you like people with dirt under their nails and a slight stink the bar is for you. I rate them a 1.

Lavations: Bartender didn't know how to make a Whiskey Sour. It was just whiskey in soda water in a tall glass. I even asked the waitress if I had the correct drink, unfortunately I did. I going to issue a 1 here.

Staff: Lackluster performance, no hustle. Just like real European waiters. I must place them with another 1.

Food: Now this is the most important and the only reason I keep coming back! Are you listening O'Faolain this is your only saving grace. Onion Rings are the best that I've ever had their batter is GOD tier and so is the Fish in their Fish and chips. They also make a really good burger and their Pièce de résistance is the Chicken Pot Pie! That's right dough is perfect and real giant chunks of chicken in a sauce that must be made by someone with mad skillz. I shall giveth them a solid 5 here.

So that makes my score for  O'Faolain's a rounded up to a 3.

I would ask them to work on their bartending skills, there's more to life than just pouring Stout and maybe ask the wait staff to be more personable.

Been here two times and both times I've had good experiences. The food is good and the place isn't too dirty.  Absolutely love the $8 all you can drink mimosas for sunday brunch...What a deal! Only complaint is that they were out of cheesecake when I went to order it..

If you want an Irish atmosphere, then you should definitely come here. The owners are actually Irish and most times when you come in, they make their rounds and say hi. They are very friendly.

The dining experience is either quiet or loud. They have an Irish band that comes I think every other Sunday to play, and if you want to have a conversation then I wouldn't come in then. I enjoy the music though.

The food is fantastic. I usually go there for brunch and order the Eggs Benedict and get the Mimosa's. The prices are fair and it's just a pleasant morning whenever you get to go.

The only complaint I have is that it seems they change the way they serve things every week. One week they can sell us the Fried Brie for brunch, the next week it's only served for dinner. They usually will serve it if you ask though.

Let's make something abundantly clear.  There are regular customers of this establishment. When a customer comes in on a Friday evening, ends up flailing their arms for a full 5 minutes (documented) + verbally express displeasure because the only 2 bartenders on duty are chatting about non-business matters with one another, and in the end requires the customer to get up, walk to the opposite end of the bar to get service, is unacceptable.  The owner does not give a damn if a bartender makes a tip.  The only thing an owner is interested in is the ROI.  A SERVICE INDUSTRY employee is responsible for giving good service, no matter who the customer is.  A tip is not obligatory - it is EARNED.  Having been in the industry for years, when a bad tip was received there was no question as to why.  We have both worked as bartenders and the service industry and EARNED every single tip.  As evidenced this evening this skill has not only become diminished but is clearly non-existent.  We have boycotted in the past.  Based on this evening's performance of bartenders with superiority complexes, we may need to call ahead and see who is working before .  This does NOT apply to all of O'Faolain's employees.  Just a select few that worked this evening during happy hour.  Check the schedule, managers.

Familiarity breeds contempt.  Service has never been, and never will be, based on how much the customer tips, regular basis or not.  It's been overheard that iIf you don't tip well, you won't get good service.  On what planet?  Those we have tipped well know exactly who they are, and were tipped well because good service was received.  To quote a friend, "TIPS - stands for "To insure proper service". No service, no tip!!  Tips are not an entitlement.  If this is an unfamiliar concept then maybe the service industry is the wrong vocation for some.  The customer, no matter their perceived personality, is not there to cater to the whims of an employee.  It is the other way around.

What made the evening so reprehensible was the fact our daughter was with us.  She has worked for a very short time in the service industry, and even she was appalled by the attitude of some of the personnel.  I was very proud of her.

After leaving this establishment we went to a local town center and visited another regular pub.  We were greeted warmly by smiling employees who made us feel welcome.  Our server was cheery and engaged us in fun conversation, without neglecting his other customers.  He was well compensated.

Tasty food, small portions, high price, and loud people.

If you like the combination as stated above, then O'Faolain's is the place for you.  Personally, this combination is why I like the restaurant, but only go every once in a blue moon - maybe once every other year (if even).

The bangers and mash is by far my favorite dish, but they do have several other tasty options.  But, here's where the rest of those combinations above really start to hurt the restaurant.  One dish really doesn't contain a large enough portion to satisfy.  It's served up like a school lunch cafeteria.  Meaning, ice cream scoop shaped servings of potatoes with a few sausages stacked around, and gravy on top.  This is made worse in that the dish is pretty expensive for what you are getting.  Now throw in that noise factor from all the bar dwellers.

This combination really does make for a disappointing meal, and is the reason I infrequent the joint.  Like I said, great food, but not a place worth being a regular at.

This place is great! The food is great for "bar" food, and the outside is really nice and relaxing when the weather is nice out. Sometimes the bartenders can be a little abrupt, but they just hired some new ones who are really entertaining... Look for Peter and Vern and tell them what upppp from Misha and Gabe!

The food here is pretty good!!  I had the All American breakfast.  Good food and plentiful.  Our waitress was very nice.  Doesn't really stand out in anyway for me but I don't typically go to places like this.  This husband found it and LOVED the banana pancakes he got.  I probably would've given the pancakes 5 stars!!  Definitely try this place out!

Went here the other day for happy hour.  There specials is $3 house drafts and $4 wine.  I had the Reuben sandwhich with onion rings and my wife had fish and onion rings.  We were impress with both dishes, especially the fish which was fried to perfection and moist and tender when you bit through.  It does have a pretty big area dedicated to the bar with plenty of room to be able to find a table.

    I love Irish bars.
Dining area is nice, bartenders are laid back, nice outdoor patio/ bar.

Sometimes the old ladies think you're hitting on their men.. But they end up apologizing by nights end when their friends talk sense to their drunkard-ness.  ;)

The young crowd is great their too, not obnoxious like some places in Arlington.

Love this neighborhood pub!  Staff is fantastic.  Love to dine here once a week.  Have held small group events here and not only are the staff and pricing great, but they are very accomodating based on your needs!

Outdoor patio that is open late Spring, Summer and fall.  Outdoor patio has a "bar & smoking" section as well as a dining only section.

Food is wonderful - from traditional Irish fare to pub grub and meals.

Great place for a pint, for a meal, watch a game or to just hang out!

This is one my best friend's home turf and yesterday the opportunity presented itself and I was able to go, and boy was I glad I did!

From the outside it looks a little strange and it's in the Regal Shopping Center area which seems like a strange place for an Irish pub.  Once you get inside the dark wood and atmosphere really reminded me of the pubs that I loved in Ireland.

I love Guinness, but I also know how it's supposed to be poured and it's a multi-step process.  (I'm certified by the St.James Gate to do so, thank you very much)  When my first pint came out I knew they had me for future visits, it was perfect!

We had a few people and I had the good fortune to try a bite of the sausage which was perfectly cooked and accented by the mustard.  I would have not thought to order it just seeing it on the menu, but now that I've tried it I will order it in the future.  The curry fries are decent fry's with a good curry sauce to dip, just a little thick which I like in a fry sauce.  Onion rings were amazing, great breading and perfectly hot and crispy.

I ordered a half spinach salad (you can get a half order of any of the salad's just ask, not on the menu)   It was perfect, right amount of dressing but not too much and not soggy.  I also got the chicken pot pie.  It came out molten hot, but was very tasty when it cooled down enough to eat.  Plus that gave me the excuse to try a bite of everyone's apps.

Our server Fayth was very attentive and nice.  Food took a while to come out, but I assume that's because it was prepared fresh and if I'm at a bar I'm not in too much of a rush.

    I can't wait to return.

Outside looks a bit lost, but once you're inside, you get taken away to the real Irish/UK style pubs found in Europe. I love the dark woods throughout the place, and the layout is great for groups and relaxing (at least the bar area). Great service, surprisingly good Irish fare, and of course, great prices on beers. This is a good spot for anyone in Sterling to get their dose of real pub life.

I love the fact O'Faolain's is a traditional Irish Pub right in the heart of Sterling. It's a great place to catch a game, meet up with friends, listen to some great live bands and dine on some really delicious food. The bartenders and servers are all friendly.

I've recently had to go gluten free and O'Faolain's has both GF beer and cider. Yesterday I ordered their seafood chowder (which is made from scratch for each order) and their reuben, asking the server if I could have it without the bread. The soup had perfectly tender potatoes, chunks of fish and seafood in a cream-base. In a word; it was delicious.

My "sandwich" (no bread, remember) came and I was delighted to see that instead of just putting the cornbeef slices on top of the saurkraut with the russian dressing in between, the chef took the time to chop the saukraut and cornbeef together and make a hash with melted cheese, serving the sauce on the side. It was not only appetizing to look at, but was also delicious (they make on the of the best reuben's around). It's that kind of extra care and service that make O'Faolain's a great place to go.

This is my go to place for a night out or waiting for a movie. I am a bit of a beer snob and the fact that they have a wide range of import beers on tap has me sold. The bartenders are very nice and actually Irish. Many of them have been there for several years, so I recognize them - they don't remember me but do remember my mother who visits a few times a year (although she is the type of person that a bartender would remember :) ) so that is pretty impressive as well. All in all, a great place to include in a night out.
I can't vouch for the food as all I have had was small appetizers...

    Yum!

This restaurant was PERFECT for a date night! The atmosphere is great and the food was DELICIOUS!

I highly recommend their Guinness Casserole. It's basically super yummy stew with mashed potatoes inside. I could have licked my bowl. Seriously.

My fiance (a non-yelper) says he and his friends go there every month or so and always have a good time. He says they often have some nice live Irish music. I would love to come at that time!

Let's just say, for a first-time, I was highly impressed and will definitely be back again!!!

O'Faolain's does not look like or feel like a proper pub. However, they have most of the qualities of a proper pub: Irish bartenders who actually know how to tend a bar and how to pour a proper pint of Guinness; terrific food and happy hour specials; and, perhaps most importantly, friendly locals who welcome strangers into the hospitable confines of a feel-good pub.

Tucked away in a suburban strip mall near a theater, other various ethinc restaurants, and a Borders, I'm amazed O'Faolain's garners the business it does -- particularly with Sweetwater Tavern teeming with thirsty and hungry patrons just across Route 7. The affable crowds at the bar speak to a loyal crowd who enjoy the playful banter of the barkeeps, and are friendly and kind to all who wander in for a pint. Indeed, whenever I work at Dulles, I always try to swing by after work for their happy hour specials -- usually intending (as with all good Irish pubs) to have just 1 or 2 pints, but almost always having at least a 3rd :)

The bar area is relatively large, and the high ceilings make it seem even bigger. The granite bar differs from the familar worn-wood feel of the classic Irish pubs; but it is kept clean and certainly not a deal-breaker. Wood walls are festooned with framed book covers of British literary classics from the talented Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and English authors. Though it does not have that worn look or feel to it, and it is lacking those Irish snugs we all enjoy... flat panel screens with rugby, soccer, formula one, et.al. and posters for Six Nations rugby or various UEFA watch parties give it at least a European pub feel.

Meanwhile, the restaurant side of the house is draped in heavy red, velvety curtains -- and feels a bit more formal than the bar area. Generally, the restaurant side is only crowded on weekend nights, as most of the crowd tends to stick to the bar during the week. However, as patrons soon discover, their food is at least a good American attempt at Irish cuisine...

Indeed, their menu is simple and to the point -- classic Irish dishes dominate, with a few local surprises thrown in for good measure. For lunch, their sandwiches are simply fantastic. I love the Gaelic Onion Soup -- served in a hot Guinness broth -- as well as the tangy corned beef Reuben. Their burgers are flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked; and I sometimes get them with their curry fries. And what a better way to start your weekend morning with an Irish Fry breakfast (the black pudding is so savory!) and a cold pint of the blessed dark nectar.

So, if you're in the Reston-Herndon-Sterling neck of the woods, your best bet for a friendly Irish pub is definitely O'Faolain's. Stop in and give it go... and don't be surprised if they remember your name and what you order when you walk in for your second visit...

O'Faolain's has this year become a somewhat regular haunt for me.

I love that much of the management and some of the waitstaff are actual Irish, with real accents and all.  I love listening to Irish accents.  And I love the friendliness and sense of humor.  I was just there this past Friday introducing a friend to the place, saying how I loved the accents, but having to add, "Well, SOME of them have them", as the waitress serving us at that moment did not have an accent.  She just played along, joking that she could put an accent on if we wanted, and proceeded to do so. :)

The first time I'd been there, I was just curious about the new Irish pub in town.  I tried the chicken pot pie.  I love chicken pot pie.  It was ok.

But I love their shepherd's pie.  I'd say it's the best I've ever had.  The first time I had it there, I was thrilled.  There was something in the delicate blend of seasonings that set it apart.  I haven't had quite the same thrill since then, but I think that's me getting accustomed to the taste, rather than a failing of the cooking.

The rest of the food is good.  I find no fault in it.  I've tried the Irish Breakfast, the breakfast wrap, the bangers and mash, the Guinness casserole, the bread pudding, the creme brulee, the corned beef boxty, the Gaelic Onion Soup, the seafood chowder, the O'Faolain's burger (burger with onion straws on it) and (for St. Patrick's Day) the corned beef and cabbage.  I liked it all.  I probably tried the fish and chips, but don't remember it right now.  I don't recall that it was soaked in grease as another reviewer reported.

One cool thing they do is have a do-it-yourself Bloody Mary bar until 2pm on Sundays.

And one thing I loved about the place was how they used to have folk musicians come in and jam at 6pm every Sunday.  A few musicians - fiddlers, guitarists, pipe players, whistle players and drummers - would sit around a table and play their jigs and reels and such, all without sheet music.  It kinda stinks that they don't do that anymore.  They have live music, but not live folk music.

The interior is warmly furnished, with hardwood floors and dark wood furniture.  The bar area, which is somewhat separate from the dining area, is decorated with book covers from Irish authors.  I watched the World Cup final there, and that was cool.  There's a couple dartboards in the bar, which I haven't played.  There is also a patio where one can eat outside, and sometimes live music is played out there, but I haven't eaten out there.

I've found the place fun and friendly, both the workers and the customers.  It's a cool laid-back place to hang out.  And I've struck up cool conversations with former strangers on quite a few occasions.  That the waitstaff recognize me and say if it's been awhile since I've been there, and sometimes a waitress calls me "love", definitely keeps me coming back.  I recommend this place.  I've never had a bad experience here.

O'Faolains is a nice enough place. I enjoy heading there for pub quiz however, i too was disappointed with the change in fries. I do not get there as often as i used to these days however the food and service seems acceptable to me.
I think i will pick the 4P's in Falls Church over OFaolains if given the choice though.

    What happened to you O'Faolain's?!

Years ago it was a cozy hideaway where you could get decent Irish fare in one of the closest things I'd seen to an actual Irish pub. The food was good, the pints frothy and the service pleasant.

We went on a weekend afternoon last year and that's when I should have figured out it was going to hell. We sat outside and while the company was good, we couldn't believe we were paying $7 for pints and more than that for what was obviously frozen appetizers.

Fast forward to last night (St Patrick's Day) and the experience got even worse. Yes, we went to O'Faolin's on St. Patty's Day. Yes, we knew everyone in the area who needed an excuse to drink on a Wednesday night would be there. Yes, we expected it to be a bit over the top. Unfortunately, we were also treated to overpriced drinks and one of the staff being a downright douchebag.

Instead of simply notifying us the patio was at capacity, he physically pushed us back inside and closed the door on us when we were halfway out. We weren't forcing our way or being even the least bit unpleasant but he thought he needed to assert his dominance. He was clearly not happy to be there, despite spending more time hugging drunken, tank top wearing 20-somethings than actually doing his job. His pale green golf shirt should have been a clue but alas he got the drop on us. It's freaking Loudoun County - you're not fooling anyone. No one likes working instead of having a good time, but damn dude, you ruined the night...

    ...until the first car bomb.

This place is...just like every other "Irish Pub" in the area.  Nothing special about it.  In fact, it's kind of like Ground hog's Day in there.  It's the same people day in and day out who all think they are Irish with almost every bartender being from Ireland.  How Unique!

I've only eaten there twice (Stella on tap though-bonus!) and I had Guinness Brie which was awesome!  It's basically a baked brie but was really nice.  I also once had the hummus simply because it was vegetarian and I wanted to try something else.  It should have been called 'bland hummus look-a-like'.  And it was supposed to be a red pepper hummus!

Over priced for what you get, but the staff is VERY friendly and it is a good place to go watch football (FIFA).

Ah, fuck... I really want to give it 4 stars, but I just can't.

It's like on the episode of Taxi when Jim is taking his driving test and keeps asking Alex what does a yellow light mean and Alex says "slow down", so Jim asks the same question... slower.  The kitchen at this place must have that scene running on a loop.

    SLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOW DOOOOOOOOOOWWNNNNN.

I'm a fan of most of the food (the roast beef w/ au ju is just a great lunch treat), and the hard cider is good (bottled, not on tap).  I've always had friendly wait staff, sometimes even chatty-friendly.  However, they just can't make up for lunch orders taking 25-35 minutes in the kitchen!

Serious, WTF? Are you baking the bread?

Maybe the trick is you are expected to drink 2-3 beers while waiting for the food to come out, but since I'm not a big beer drinker and that's not always a good idea when at lunch while at work, that dog don't hunt.

They have some special mustards (the whiskey whole grain makes me turgid) which can AND SHOULD be applied to just about everything.

Shepards pie is worth the wait...the first time.  After that, the kitchen sluggishness just becomes irksome.

Outdoor seating is awesome when the weather is nice, as it's mostly shaded and not a lot of loud vehicle traffic.

I avoid this place during happy hour.  If I wanted to be squished, I'd take up residence in a sardine can.

We did happy hour here yesterday. We sat at a table in the bar area. The service was great.

We ordered some apps.... artichoke dip and wings to start. The wings were O-K. The artichoke dip was terrible! It was as if they took a weak frozen dip and soaked it in dirty dishwater, then served it. It was runny and just plain gross.

I ordered the fish and chips for dinner. Several reviewers said it was good. It was not. It had no flavor (the fish, the crust, or the tartar sauce). The crust was mostly soggy too. Another person in our group had the same and was quite disappointed. The Brogue in Great Falls would have been a better option to eat.

If that wasn't enough of a 'warning' another in our group ordered 2 more apps - chicken lollipops and the jalapeno crab dip. The chicken lollipops were tolerable. The dip was terrible. After trying it, no one ate it.

So - all in all - not a bad place for drinks - but don't eat here. Also very smokey (which I knew going in). Hope they abide by the smoking ban come December 1.

When we first moved to Loudoun we tried this restaurant.  Our first experience was wonderful - we were celebrating our anniversary and the staff was very attentive and a lot of fun.  We had their delicious mussels as an appetizer with drinks.  We did not have dinner as we were eating someplace else.

We were so impressed with our first visit we made reservations for their Sunday Brunch.  Very disappointing.  Although it appears well presented the food was cold and some things had become stale.  Meh.  Still, we thought we could give it another try, perhaps that brunch was an "off" day?

Not so.  Turns out we were lucky during our first trip as subsequent visits proved that poor service, sub par food and long waits are actually this restaurant's modus operandi.

Whether sitting at the bar, the bar tables or non smoking we have waited.  And waited.  And waited.  The servers seem indifferent. The shepard's pie we ordered on one visit looked and tasted as though it had been premade, frozen and reheated.  Do not order this.  We have yet to be able to ever order the mussels again as everytime we go they have "just sold out."  Sigh.

Heaven forbid you try to dine alone as you will be completely ignored, except when the check is presented.

I did allow one star because it appears to be clean and the bathrooms are nice.  But we haven't been back in over a year and won't be going back, ever.

ETA 6/4/2009:  We have since been contacted by the owner, Mr. Holohan who has been extremely courteous and accomodating in addressing our concerns.  Although we will not return, we find it refreshing and very professional of Mr. Holohan to take the time to read the reviews and try to rectify situations that affect his business.  Kudos to him.

I had originally rated this restaurant lower.  I have re-rated to reflect the owner's gracious offer to speak with us and try to win us back as customers.  They seem to aim to please. :) Nicely done.

In the land of TGIFridays and Olive Gardens, there lies a little gem of a bar/ restaurant: O'Faolains.

It's really easy to overlook this place because it looks completely unassuming from the outside. I mean, really-- there are no lights except the ones in the parking lot and the restaurant is next to a Jerry's Sub and across the way from that sketchy 7-11. But once inside, the restaurant tells a different story-- lush wood decor, high ceilings, big TV's (football fans: they get Setanta Sports and Fox Soccer Channel here!).

Employees here are chipper and quick to get you a seat or more importantly, a drink. The restaurant managers will almost always strike up a conversation with their patrons; they're friendly and will most likely remember your name (and what you ordered) if you ever make a return visit to the place.

The restaurant is surprisingly roomy and the bar, sizeable as it is, comprises a good 40% of the entire establishment. Thank god that the bartenders actually know how to pour a Guinness around here (most of them are from Ireland... so they should know, right?!) Not a beer drinker? They've got something even better: WHISKEY! A good selection for all you booze snobs. So, drink up!

As for the food: you might want to make a separate trip for it. Get the Irish breakfast if you haven't eaten in, oh, 3 days because you'll get alot on your plate: black and white pudding (if you know, you know)/ bangers/ grilled tomato/ toast/ beans/ eggs/ rashers... so basically something from every food group. The other Irish dishes, which make up about 7-8 dishes on the whole menu, are tasty and unpretentious-- almost like soul food from the Emerald Isle. But If I were you, I would probably steer clear of the American fare on the menu... it's subpar.

Another thing to avoid: any and all open mics or live music performed here. Usually performed by locals who only know how to play Blackbird or Stairway to Heaven, acoustically.

I often find myself in this little neck of the woods. For a strip mall location this is a great place. The food I had was so-so (fish & chips, and bangers & mash). But a lot of my co-workers really like the food a lot. Especially compared to the other places around, this is the best place to fill up.

For some reason I always run into weird situations though. In the bar we all ordered a round of "Car Bombs" (a politically correct "Irish Car Bomb"). And tried to order another shot like 20-30 minutes later and the waiter said we couldn't because we had to wait 45 minutes. ???? Not sure what's up with that.
Also, sat in the dining area once and they had a trivia night. Odd for a restaurant - but very entertaining.

They also have specials depending on the day of the week (might only be available in the bar though...). And a decent house beer for only $3 bucks. The beer selection also includes regional beers as well as Irish. Much better selection than Sweet Water Tavern across the street.

This place used to be  fun as hell about a year ago, but now for some reason there is air of stank when i go in now. With the old ass guy who can't hold a note while wobbling on stage with his acoustic, singing ring of fire for the 5 fucking time tonight- i want to jam my shot glass in my eye.

The only thing that gave me hope was they had Smithwhicks on tap, but that hope was crushed when the bartender keeps picking at his teeth, reaches for another glass. seriously? why did you do that?

The food, although I haven't eaten it, doesn't look that good. Not to be ignorent about the food, but when the newly turned 21 bimbo keeps stuffin her face cause she's "SO DRUNK", I lose my appetite.

It has the making of a great bar, but just falls short of fun. Sorry guys, I wanted to like you, i really did.

The atmosphere is fun, and the staff is really friendly. My main gripe is the lack of options with food. Each time I go there, I have a hard time finding something simple. Maybe I'm a simplistic eater, but still :)

When I do find something it's so  good that I keep coming back!

When this place first opened we loved it! Great beer, good food & loved the atmosphere at the bar.
The last visit was terrible and probably won't return.
Last time, we came in, no host to seat us, finally a busboy took us to a table. Sat, sat, sat, sat, another table came in and was seated, and order taken, still waiting ourselves for a server........got up and left, Went to Kirkpatrick's in Ashburn and had food in our stomachs and beer in hand in no time flat!

There are three things I like about this place:

    1.  Good, great, actually, food.
    2.  Reasonably priced.
    3.  Personal service.

It seems like every time I come here I get great food and even better service.  My two favorite dishes are are the Shepherds Pie and the Guinness Casserole.  I also have to give a shout out to their burgers, which are pretty tasty!

I stopped in for dinner last night with some friends and the place was jumpin.  The bar was full, the dining room was busy, and good spirits were all around.

Parking was a mutha, though, and I'd forgotten how bad it can get sometimes.

I'm so glad I live close to this place, because in the summer, the outdoor bar is a fun place to hang out and enjoy a beer in the sun.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

    This place rocks,
I only get out there about once a month but they still remember my name, If you want to experience a Real Irish pub head out to Sterling. Their Guiness Casserole and Bangers are awesome.

O'Faolain's is comfortable, smaller Irish bar with good food, great service and a nice atmosphere. It's a popular after-work hangout for AOL and VeriSign, who are in the area. The bar is home to a variety of small tables and booths, which are usually full. There is a separate dining room which is not nearly as full or noisy, but its also less fun! A projection TV shows football, soccer, rugby and other sports on the wall in the bar from time to time, drawing a crowd.

All of the food we have tried here has been good. Guinness, Smithwicks, Yuengling and other beers on tap. The Guinness Casserole is a local specialty which features,  "Beef marinated in Guinness, simmered with carrots, onions & thyme. Served with mashed potatoes." The Fish and Chips, Sheperd's Pie, and a grilled chicken sandwich with pepper jack cheese and bacon are good as well.

The most difficult part of going to O'Faolain's is the parking. With all of the restaurants and a movie theater, the lot in front is always full and it can take some searching in adjoining parking lots to find a space.
