Absolutely amazing food! The place is relaxed, which is great on a B&B retreat when you want casual. I had the special, which was the duck made perfect to medium rare. Also the sweet potato purée was cooked beautifully.
My girlfriend is gluten free and the owner/chef said that most of the menu can be made gluten free which is so nice to hear in a small town. I highly recommend this restaurant.
A very pleasant surprise in the small, sleepy town of Lanesboro. Â Went dining with a group and everyone enjoyed a great meal and we ordered a variety of dishes. Â They also offer great wine. Â Fantastic patio for dining on during the summer evening. Â Recommended if you are in town for a visit.
Review Source:Went here just because it looked interesting- late 1800's town hall. WOW
Great, locally sourced food. Tenderloin with morel mushrooms, horseradish mashed potatoes, caesar salad, all delicious. My wife had the salmon, also great. Dessert, bread pudding with home made ice cream. To top it off, great craft beers, and an excellent wine list, all reasonably priced. And the service was friendly and efficient. I'll be back!
Came down to Lanesboro to see a play at the fantastic Commonweal Theater, and wanted to catch dinner beforehand. The food was pretty great - interesting specials (many featured local, wild-harvested morel mushrooms or Norwegian specialties), and a very short, but well-constructed menu. We went with a group of 6 and ordered almost everything on the menu (that's how few options there were). I am pleased to report that everything was tasty. The server was a little scatter-brained, but very friendly, and the service was prompt. I would absolutely return.
Review Source:Born and raised in Lanesboro and never ate in some of the restaurants until a recent trip back. Too many good things to eat at relative's houses, usually.
Went for dinner on a Friday night. The place was fairly busy but service was prompt and darn well adequate. We sat outside on the deck, so I haven't seen the upstairs dining room.
I had their pork tenderloin plate and others with me had chicken and beef. All were nicely cooked and nicely done. Before that I had tomato soup that was just right.
Plenty of choices from the bar; wine, beer, and liquor. The owner came around and talked with us for a bit and seemed to be making sure everything was OK. It was.
After a day of biking in the cold we headed to Lanesboro for dinner. Very cute restaurant on the outside, two story with the bar on the first level and dining area on the second level. we did not have reservations but happen to get in right away (7:45pm). It was packed! Â We both went with the specials they offered. Me- whitefish kabobs with sausage and a pickled carrot/beet salad. Him- Grand Marais Herring with local broiled acorn squash and mashed potatoes. Finished it off with devil brownie and vanilla ice cream dessert. Â YUMMY! Entrees were $20 and appetizers $6-$10. Â Would definitely recommend. Â beware most restaurants close at 9pm.
Review Source:After an afternoon of bike riding along the Root River my cousins and I traded in our bike rentals for the Old Village Hall Patio when it opened at 5. Â We were all pleasantly surprised with the varietal green salad and real blue cheese dressing. Â We later split beef medallions, lump crab salad and large pan seared scallops. Â All good choices...
For those who enjoy biking MN is a long way to go from the desert climate of AZ. Â However, if you do manage to go the biking is great for hybrid bikes along the entire twenty miles from Preston to Peterson with Lanesboro situated in the middle. Â The asphalt path meanders along an old train bed with numerous bridge crossings and is tree lined most of the way. Â If we had had an extra day the tubing looked very inviting and fun. Â If you visit don't miss the "Aroma Pie Shop" half way between Lanesboro and Peterson. Â It claims to have the world's greatest pie and the strawberry rhubarb is indeed very, very good.
A disclaimer: I can not vouch for good weather in early August like we had plus no mosquitoes. Â However, if you have relatives in MN it doesn't hurt to at least make the request.
