POW!!!!
Stop # 3 on my Chicago Pizza tour 2013.
I came here after getting my weiner stomped over at Giordanos (never got my pizza). I sat at the bar since the place was now dead (since I wasted so much time at that other shithole). Bar tender wasn't amused at anything. Ever. WTF brah?! You miss your workout today? Either way.....
I ordered up a small pie and some beers. Bartender was nice enough to let me sample before committing. Pie took about 45 minutes like he said it would. I had enough beers in that time to make sure that any pizza they sat down would taste amazing.
Good news!!! Â No matter how much beer I had, that pie was dang good!!! Â I really enjoyed the crust, best of my pizza tour. Sauce was good, but maybe a little light. Cheese was thick, but not as tasty as Lou Malnati's.
Really enjoyed the space here. All the writing on the walls, the openness of it, the upstairs bathroom... (records scratching).... Â WHAT??? Â Whatchutalkinbout Willis? Â Yeah, the crapper is up stairs. After I pounded 9 beers waiting for my pizza you think I can get up those stairs to the nearest urinal? Aint nobody got time for that!!! So I pee'd in the corner booth. jk.......
I'll be back!!!!
We wanted to be "Wow'd" but we were not wow'd. Â
This was our first Chicago Pizza experience, and we had been looking forward to it. Â Got there around 11 am and were seated immediately, but by the time we left around 12:45-1pm, they had very long lines down the sidewalk waiting for seating so call ahead if you can.
Love the decor, black walls with multicolored writing everywhere! Â On walls, statues, paintings....it is insane how cool this place looks. Â Love the ambience. Â However, the service was.......lets just say, they are used to running through hoards of tourists and are not there to give you a "dining experience". Â It was fine, not super friendly, not rude. Â It does take a while when you order a deep dish pizza so be prepared.
When the pizza arrived, a medium deep dish sausage pizza is SO different from any pizza I had ever eaten. Â The very thick crust is very cornmealish. Â That would be my guess, corn meal in the crust. Â It is very very heavy, and after one piece of a medium pizza each, we were done. Â Stuffed. Â The other odd thing, is the sausage. Â I have seen slices of sausage, crumbles of sausage, balls of sausage, but this pizza was topped with a LID of sausage. Â No kidding, a flat disc of sausage like a top over the pizza sauce and cheese. Â Different!
We had them pack the leftovers in a box and thought we would give it to the guy we saw on the corner with a homeless sign. Â BIG mistake. Â Homeless persons are not interested in hot fresh pizza in a box, that may have been your lunch tomorrow. Â Â If we had been going home I would have eaten it later......I didn't realize it was insulting? Â Â Cash is less insulting I suppose. Â So is walking by and pretending you don't see them, if you ask me. Â We only packed it because we were thinking of him. Â Won't make that mistake again!
