This place is AWESOME! I love, love, LOVE O'Sullivan's!

Weeknights from 9:00 PM+ is the best time to go! Bartenders are quick and helpful and what an awesome selection of beer!

Tip: Order your drinks at the bar, and then go sit and chill at one of the booths! Great way to drink, catch up with friends, and not be bothered by the bar-flys.

So much better than the typical Irish pub. The Guinness burger is wonderful.  Our bartender was named Damien, and he came from Rhode Island. What a nice man!  Overall, this is a wonderful place.

    Pros:
    - Trivia Night
    - Group Atmosphere
    - Most of the staff is very helpful
    - Great fries

    Cons:
    - Drink order was fairly normal timeline (5 to 10 min), but getting your drinks will take you another half an hour (at least).  Might as well go to the bar than order from the table (5 min wait).
    - Wait time to get your food will be another 30-45min (at least).
    - Drinks are overpriced for a pub during the week.  I was very surprised my Yuengling draft cost over $5 for a weekday at 9pm.  Maybe, I'm just getting older, but those prices are very similar to weekend, downtown, club prices.
    - Angus burgers aren't bad, but are far from great; you don't get much meat and the quality is questionable (i.e., didn't taste like Angus quality and was dry).  Decent spice though.

    Bottomline:
    - Events like Trivia night (Wed) and $6 burgers will draw you in, but the questionably high drink prices and incredibly long wait time for drinks and food may keep you from coming back.

I stopped in here for lunch while my car was being serviced down the street. It's just your average pub with average service. Sitting outside was nice in the little alley way and my server was friendly. I got the rueben and it was really dry so I feel like I missed out on the cheesy indulgent yumminess. I'd probably stop in for a beer. But next oil change, I'll try something new in the neighborhood.

I'm really torn about this place.  Sometimes I go and it's awesome and sometimes it is...not awesome.

Let's start with awesome.  I was there a few weeks back on a Saturday night.  Just sitting at the bar with a friend.  The bartender, Damien, was super friendly without being overly attentive.  I asked him about a specific drink and he gave us a free taste.  It was just fun and laid back and all of the staff was really nice.  And the food is good as are the drinks (tasty mixed vodka shots and a decent beer selection on tap).  AND, it's relatively inexpensive.  Relatively.  If you go, try the guiness burger.  YUM!  If you go on trivia night (Wednesdays), though, the regular burgers are only $6 and still darn tasty.

We went back last night for trivia night (which is a lot of fun, but go early to get a table!) and the service went from brusque but efficient to downright rude.  I started at the bar (different bartender), ordered drinks, and opened a tab.  When our table was ready, Damien - who was acting as a server that night - said he would transfer the tab over to the table for me.  There were six of us total and when we tried to split the check at the end we were not-so-gently scolded by Damien and told to let him know in advance.  Six people, all of whom showed up at different times and ordered different things - I would've thought he'd have asked if we wanted separate checks if it were that big of an inconvenience to do it afterward.

Anyway, the female server (whose name I do not know) was exceedingly rude.  She scowled at everyone and went out of her way to make the smallest request (may I please have some more water?) seem like the biggest inconvenience.  It was next to impossible to flag down either her or Damien during the night to order more food or drinks.  Our tab would have been much bigger otherwise (something you'd think they'd want).

Once we figured out the check, I realized that my drinks from the bar were never transferred over.  After failing to get Damien's attention, I went back up to the bar to check with the bartender.  He told me it had been transferred to the table and I said that those charges were not on the check.  He went through the computer for a minute and then thrust my credit card back to me just shaking his head angrily.  Good god people, I was just trying to pay for my drinks, something I would think the bar would appreciate.  Apparently not.

The whole time I was at the bar trying to get my bar tab paid, the female server was going back and forth clearing tables and brinings dirty glasses to the bar.  Apparently I was in her way, though there was really no other place for me to stand.  So, when she came through I would move to give her access to the bar.  That was not good enough, it would seem, so she actually went out of her way to step on me and push past me.  Is that really necessary?  Really?  (Hint: the answer is no).

Do these reviewers have tastebuds?? Blandest food of my life! The Guinness burger showed that whoever was cooking is afraid of seasoning and flavor. Just because it's a pub is not excuse for serving inedible food. Beef is my favorite meat and it just makes me angry when people disgrace it. Sorry, but their tasteless and dull gravy could not hide the bland, low quality of this burger. I had better food at my high school cafeteria. Not to mention the absent-minded service. I'm slightly nauseous right now.

Had been wanting to try this place for a while.  Jimmy's was packed, so we walked across the street to give O'Sullivan's a try.  We were pleasantly suprised.  We had the Guiness Burger (very tasty) and the Shepherd's Pie (also good).  The prices were decent, but they could have used more than one waiter that evening.  That said, he was nice and we will be back.

Guinness on tap and curry wings :) It was packed on a tuesday night for trivia but the service was still quite good. The Ruben was sliced a little thick for my liking but overall tasty.

I absolutely love the service at O'Sullivan's. The bartenders are always on their A game for regulars and newbies. Most times I'm there to catch a game and share a few drinks with friends.  I prefer to sit at the bar and enjoy the witty banter of the locals. They are always good for a story and a few laughs.

Brunch, lunch, dinner...you really can't go wrong with the menu. Brunch drink specials include a $5 mimosa, bloody mary or guinness.  I recommend the curry fries.

We went here on a Saturday around 5 p.m.  At that hour, there were a few people at the bar and 2 occupied tables in the dining area.  It's a bit confusing when first entering.  We didn't know if we should just seat ourselves or if someone would seat us.  Finally, after a couple of minutes standing around, we just seated ourselves.  A few minutes later, our server showed up to give us menus.  I think that O'Sullivan's would do well to have a sign telling customers to seat themselves in the dining area.

No sooner did our server give us menus, he asked if we wanted something to drink.  I asked if there were any house speciality drinks, he said no but that it was happy hour so drinks were a dollar cheaper.  He asked if I wanted a sweet drink.  When I said yes, he suggested a cosmo.  Okay, I said.  My husband decided to try a Harp Lager, which he couldn't recall if he ever had one before.  I was surprised at just how strong my cosmo was!

We started out with an appetizer of chicken wings which consisted of 10 wing sections, some sliced carrots and celery plus bleu cheese dipping sauce.  You can get the wings spicy, with bbq sauce or with curry sauce.  We chose bbq.  The wings were meaty and properly prepared.  However, the bbq sauce was on the bland side.

For my main course, I ordered Salmon Killybegs.  This dish consists of (from the menu) "Grilled 8 oz. seasoned salmon with lemon pepper topped with a roasted red bell pepper sauce served with rice and vegetables of the day".  The "vegetables of the day" were a steamed vegetable mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.  Our server asked me how I wanted the salmon cooked and I said "medium".  When it came, it was cooked well-done.  I didn't send it back because it was still moist enough and I could live with that.  The sauce was bland---no hint of lemon pepper or roasted bell pepper.  Plus there was plain white rice.

My husband had Corned beef and cabbage.   Again, from the menu, "Slices of corned beef boiled to perfection covered with a parsley cream sauce and served with red potatoes, carrots and cabbage".   Since my husband is very picky about his corned beef, he noticed right away, that the meat had also been grilled---something he's never seen before.   He also asked to have it without the parsley cream sauce, and his request was honored.  While he didn't hate his meal, he wasn't wowed either.

Some of the bar patrons were getting rowdy which provided some entertainment as we ate.  There was a group of middle-aged men who decided to play 80s music on the jukebox.  So, we listened to them sing along to "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, along with music by Wham! and Rick Astley.  They decided to dance---very badly!---to Rick Astley LOL!  Then again, one can expect such shenanigans at an Irish Pub on a Saturday night.  I'm sure that as the evening progressed, the place got even rowdier.

When no one was using the jukebox, the background music is Irish music---some old, some contemporary, which all in all, fits in quite well with the Irish Pub theme.

Looking at their website, we learned that this is the second O'Sullivan's to open in NoVA.  The first one opened in Arlington in 2006.  They are owned by Karen and Anselm Griffiths.  Karen is from County Kerry and her maiden name is O'Sullivan, hence the pub name.

Would we go back?  We would have no problem doing so, although, I think that I would try a different entree.  Since we're not into rowdy bar scenes, we would, once again, go for an early dinner.

Great spot for a Guinness and the fantastic Guinness burger which is not like any burger I have ever had. First off there is no bun just a perfect combination of beef, mashed potato,Guinness gravy, sauteed spinach and crisp fried onions. This is a dish that is more than the sum of its parts one of those rare, special dishes that is a perfect marriage of flavors and textures. There should be a line down the street to get this thing and the more people try it, I'd wager they just may end up with those lines. Other items I saw being served looked good but there isn't anything that's going to divert me from this new found favorite.t If you like delicious food go get a Guinness burger, you will get hooked, its that good.

My husband and I love this place.  The food is great, the service is friendly, and it definitely fits in downtown Herndon perfectly, with that neighborhood feel.  You get fast service, and I am yet to have a bad meal or a poorly made drink.  If you are in Herndon looking for a nice and casual sports pub, definitely give O'Sullivans a shot.

This is a good pub. They food is always good, the service is good (depends on how busy they get of course) and the drink prices are okay. Some of the items on the menu are very good, like the Irish Breakfast and the Guinness burger is like CRACK.. yummy. Oh now I want one just thinking about it.

The happy hour is pretty good too. The bar staff are friendly and most of the time on top of there stuff. If you looking for a pub in the area this is the place to go and its great because you can bar hop between Jimmy's tavern and here on the same night!

I ate their last spring and was impressed with their Irish breakfast.  Everything was well cooked except for the rashers.  They were grilled and a bit overcooked.   I was also very impressed with their service.  They gave me a Guinness on the house, because there was a crack on my glass.  My only other complaint is they were showing soccer on tv, but that's not a problem if you like soccer.

Decided to try this place on a whim with my parents. We literally just got back from the restaurant, and I had to write a review- that's how good it is! Would have been 5 stars if not for the service, which was below my average standards. Friday night, no host (seat yourself) and there were only two servers for about six tables + a group of six. I'm very patient and understanding with servers because I used to be one myself (and it's the establishment's fault for not having more servers on), but my parents were not so charmed with the lengthy waits between each interaction. So I would recommend going around 5-6pm instead of 7 for dinner.

Now onto the food! I wasn't at all in an Irish/British mood, but I read such great things about the Bangers and Mash that I *had* to try it. Never before have I finished my entire plate of food at a restaurant. I set up my fork with a chunk of mashed potates and a slice of the sausage, and then dunked it into the gravy. Could not. stop. eating. It was perfectly seasoned. Such a fantastic meal for a cold night.

My mom ordered the Rack of Lamb. It was also great, though one of the three shanks was a little overcooked. Yummy, buttery vegetables (carrot slices and broccoli) and mashed potatoes. She also tried Kilkenny, and it was a really smooth, creamy beer. I'm not a huge fan of darker ales but I'd get it again. My dad's Cottage Pie was on point, he ate the whole thing! Savory goodness, far too rich for me, but a half portion would have been perfect. That came with a hearty slice of Irish soda bread which was delicious; a little dessert in itself.

Somehow, finishing my whole plate didn't stop me from ordering dessert- I couldn't resist the words 'Bread Pudding'. I always expect the worst when I see this dessert at restaurants- 9 times out of 10 it's got dry chunks, not enough flavor, etc. But O'Sullivan's has the BEST bread pudding I've ever had!! I know I'm going to go back JUST for this huge portion of soft, warm, custardy goodness.

Been here a few times for lunch.  They have great daily lunch specials and I've never been disappointed.  Usually not too crowded at lunch when we have been so service was great.  I've had the fish n chips, shepherds pie, and the burger (all of which were lunch specials).  All were tasty and were appropriately sized -- left full, not hungry, not stuffed.  Score.  They also have Guinness on tap -- imagine that.  It was good, it tasted like Guinness.

Horrible service female bartender ignored me, she was so busy pouring her friends beer, finally got her attention poured me a glass of wine I had to get her attention to order food and later another glass of wine, she never said hello, good bye, thank you come again sorry I left her a nice tip she did not deserve it.
I was there to look at bringing training groups there once a month with customer service like this, I do not think so.

No luck for the Irish here! I really want to like O'Sullivan's but it just doesn't cut it for me. It's a good place if you're looking to be left alone with your drink at the bar. Bartenders are nice enough and they hire actual Irish transplants so that's good. But the food is lacking and sometimes a little slow. It's kind of a last resort after Friday Night Live.

O'Sullivan's is one of my favorite bars in the DC area. Not only is the food amazing, the bartenders are always very friendly. Compared to the pickup bars in nearby Reston Town Center, O'Sullivan's is much more of a neighborhood place, featuring live music, a good beer selection, and a crowd of mostly locals looking to unwind after work.

If you go, you should definitely order the Dingle Dots as an appetizer. They are these balls of fried mashed potatoes, laced with pieces of cabbage and corned beef, served in a mustard sauce. The Guinness Burger and the Chicken Tullamore are also very good.

You might have to linger around for a while to get a seat at the bar because the place gets pretty crowded on weekends. Trivia night is a bit of a bust; hard to hear the questions, no real way of communicating answers.

You should definitely check out O'Sullivan's if you want to kick back with a cold pint and some tasty Irish bar food. I'd recommend going to watch sports. It's a great place to watch Caps games with local fans.

My wife and I went on Friday last because we were looking to get Fish&Chips.  I added potato skins appetizer just to complete the cholesterol challenge!  All was good, nicely prepared skins, fresh flaky fish with a light crunchy batter, steak-fries,  good sized portions along with a small slaw.  Waitress suggested the beer I had and it was a good choice.  Wish I could remember the name of it or her name.  Service was good and attentive.  It was a moderately busy night but we had no delays and had been seated right away.  Enjoyed our meal and each other's company!

Beware on Fridays now that Friday Night Live has begun (til 8/24) on the Town Green parking will be close to zero in the municipal lot.  We got to park using my wife's placard but be advised, as we left, an officer was checking so leave those spots for those who really need them!  Should do that anyway.

Great addition to downtown Herndon.  Food and service is very good.  I ave had the drunken turkey and several others.  The turkey might be a top 5 sandwich for me which is amazing for me to say.  The bartenders seemed to be on top of it and the bar area isn't so huge that you will be waiting forever for a drink.  Haven't been there except in the evening but looking forward to using the outdoor patio space this year.  Also, has a good number of TV's for Sports and they seem to focus on making sure games are on when available.

Unhappy waitress who begrudgingly brought our drinks but never a smile or a kind word...she must have known her attitude didn't matter as we were a party of six and the gratuity was already included. Burgers looked like they had been sat on by the unlucky leprechaun in the kitchen and the instant mashed potatoes overwhelmed all other entrees. At the end of the night and $330 later our credit card was incorrectly charged an extra $50. Rather then cheerfully try to make the situation right it took the bartender after a conference with the unhappy waitress an additional 15 mins to reverse the charge for the correct amount. Only after I complained and mentioned yelp was I offered a "free" beer...sorry sonny the justice will prevail here!

Walk in - and quickly did I just drive to Herndon or did I land in Shannon?  No kidding the decor and ambiance is VERY authentic.  Met a friend for drinks and the service was superb!  Very friendly and attentive.  I did like the beer selection and some wonderful imports from the green hills!

Food - okay I am in Herndon....  It was okay, but really bar fare and was a little disappointed in the offerings - but the positive charge from the staff to the patrons made for a great time.

Now - good ol' St. Patty's day is around the bend - me thinks I know to which I will be indulging in the festivities at!!

May the luck of the Irish be with you all!!

My co-worker and I tumbled upon this place one hot sunny day during lunch. We couldnt figure out what we wanted we just knew we needed food. So I'm calling out places and then I see an irish flag and I say "ooh! Fish and Chips!" so he whips his SUV around and we park. We Enter. We are greeted by a happy server/bartender and we are seated. We could tell this place had just opened....fast forward to 6 visits later and vioila my verdict remains the same- they have very tasty fish and chips and potato leek soup. Guinness is ALWAYS great but they do offer a good selection of other beers. If your a fan of Irish fare check it out!

Well it took me a while to write this one, so here I am!

I've been coming to O'Sullivan's Irish Pub since March 2011, when a bartender (who used to work at semi-nearby Finnegan's) recommended it to me. I remember asking, "Do you mean the one in Arlington?" and she says there's a new one here in Herndon. My mom's family surname is O'Sullivan so perhaps that means I'll love the pub.

The place is quaint and is pretty authentic to a pub in Ireland. The staff has always been very friendly to me. To me, that means they recognize (in a positive way) and know my name! Most notably: Enda, Fiona, Cati, Ian, and Donagh. I do enjoy the live Irish music in the evenings. I've gotten pretty good at cricket since this place opened. They now also have team trivia on Wednesdays. Trivia is personally not my cup-of-tea, but definitely have at it for those of you who are.

In addition to seeing friendly faces, I also love their grub! On Mondays, they have fish & chips for only $8 ($12 the rest of the week), which are definitely the best around. On Fridays, their appetizers are $2 off. Those nights, I usually get their wings with an Irish curry sauce or beef sliders.

Well it turns out I do love this pub and not because of my mom's family surname. One more side note: my first date with Motrya was also here. It has been my favorite hangout in Herndon since.

Don't waste your time.  Food was bland and music was the worst and the loudest I have ever encountered. Staff is excellent and the place could be awesome with a few changes.  All in all, the brutal music ruined our experience, but the food wasn't good enough to make us visit again when the band isn't playing.

I like this place -- A Lot! 5 stars is based on the experience during one visit where everything was perfect. Service was friendly, efficient, and anticipated needs of our multi-generational group. I like that it's an Irish Pub that can cater to a mature audience. Good beer selection. The food -- I mean it's an Irish Pub, but the food was good quality and well prepared with everything one would expect.

Stopped in here on New Years to find some place local. Really enjoyed my night here, the musician was suprisingly good for most bars i have found, the staff were quiet friendly, and the food that i had was very good. I plan on coming back in the future for dinner to see what all there is.
It is nice to find a place like this in Herndon. Will make for a nice change not having to drive to Reston or Sterling.

Could this bright, airy spot REALLY be related to the grungy "O'Sullivan's" in Clarendon?  YES.  Apparently the flip-flop wearing frat boy and tattooed Barbie doll group that drunkenly patronizes O'Sully's in Clarendon paid enough to the establishment through the years for the owners to open a decidedly more mature and sophisticated Irish bar in downtown Herndon (across the street from Jimmy's).  An Irish place where they not only have Peroni, but serve it in tall Peroni-logo glasses.

This location has only been open since the spring, but I suspect it could become a favorite.  The hyper narcissism that exists in Arlington is missing from Herndon, and that is quite refreshing.

Bar review.  Very quiet on a weeknight but Greg and I are lushes, so that wasn't too surprising.  Managed to find street parking before we reached the shared lot. Bouncer was the manager that night, and just as friendly as the bartender.  Drunk couple playing darts and making bad music requests; the musician declined the more outrageous songs and occasionally drifted back to an Irish theme at the manager's request.  Not terrible to listen to, nor extraordinarily talented. Small tv built into the bar to watch the game.

Youngish skinhead bartender was awesome (name eludes me... Mike? Chris?), produced hands down the best white russian I've had in awhile.  Also tried a pint of Kilkenny's at a barmate's recommendation since only a few Irish pubs carry it.  Enjoyed the light taste and the visual transformation from cidery haze to clear amber. I'd be open to coming back after work to check out their eats.

This was positioned to become our favorite spot in Herndon.  We stopped by one weekday evening last week, and enjoyed some acceptable pub food and Smithwicks on tap.  They even have Redbreast 12 y.o., and know why that's a good selection.  A small, clean place with pleasant bar staff and a late-night kitchen. So far, so good.

Then, we try a Friday night.  And run into the Mediocre Music Man with Attitude, whose amp goes to 11.  As we arrive, this gentleman is entertaining about four people, we suspect all his friends given the level of banter and whooping.  (Our arrival doubles his audience.) The pleasant Irishy pub is suddenly a place where conversation is impossible.

The MMMwA says at one point, "It sounds like I'm coming out as too loud, should I turn down this volume?"  We give him a smile and nod that yes, a little less would be more amenable given the acoustics of the room.  His response:

"Oh, well now I think I'll turn it up.  Gee, so sorry about your poor fragile ears over there!  Ha!"

You can decide if this is a place where you want to experience a pub atmosphere, or instead want to have a nice Irish beer while bombarded with a Frampton wanna-be who really thinks you're just there for his concert.

The pub gets a star knocked off, because the otherwise pleasant bar staff did nothing to address their musician's desire to cut the audience back down to just his sycophants.

Visited for the first time last night. Had corned beef and cabbage which was excellent. Beef was lean and the cabbage with vegatables (carrots and potatoes) were cooked perfectly. Not waterlogged as is often the case.

The Guinness tasted fresh and was drawn slowly, as it should be.

For an appetizer we tried the curry fries. Very yummy but the curry was a little strong.

All in all a great evening and I will be back. My only regret is that they had run out of cider. From what I understand the cider they have is bottled. Would love it if they would add a draught cider.
