One of my favorite places to stop by if I'm staying local for the weekend. Plenty of seating at the bar along with high top tables and other table arrangements. One cool thing which I've never seen at another bar was a pinball machine. Prices are good, the bartenders are all friendly, and be sure to ask for a LeBomb James. You'll thank me later.... if you remember
Review Source:I too am a fan. Twas a bit hard to find but once I arrived I felt like I was in on a secret. Of course if you walk in now, it will seem like any other bar anywhere but there is something that was different, maybe even special. Might be the plastic Adirondack chairs in parking lot or the fact that no one cared if I drank my beer out there. Oh yeah I remember what was special... Chillin with friends(new and old) , cheesy waffle fries and the ranch dressing.
NOT SO SPECIAL... Luis Castillo's dropped ball.
Something about the location screams DIVE! Not that there's anything wrong with a dive bar I prefer Dive Bars, furthermore it's not a bad location it's somewhat off the beaten path. Once the perception of Dive is in your head Over South melts it away with the great selection on draught, the bar is stocked with good Booze. The crowd is laid back and acknowledges the 80's are over and they aren't trying to be Ironic about the 80's either.
Over South is on Railroad Ave it's easy to miss. Once you find the place you'll get- Lots of TVs, Very friendly & accommodating staff, Great beer on tap. Blue Point, Harp, Guinness, Bass, and a Heifenweisen.5 or 6$ a pint. The bar is fully stocked. They have food too. The wings looked and smelled amazing. The Waffle fries were great especially with the Ranch dressing.
Decent crowd, I guess it's a Sports bar? Without all the lame memorabilia and Ass-Hats screaming about their favorite teams. You can have a conversation without having to yell.
Outside are the plastic lawn chairs overlooking the dilapidated parking lot and lovely Railroad ave it provides a good way to break up the night. Over South's great for groups or just a couple of friends. I'd go back to this diamond in the rough any day.
* The community had no formal name until 1838 when residents gathered to choose a formal name. Until that time, Sayville was known informally as "over south." The townspeople held a meeting to decide on a name, and after Edwardsville and Greensville tied in a vote, one resident suggested "Seaville." According to historical accounts, the clerk at that particular meeting did not know how to spell and had to go home and look in an old Bible he had brought from England years before. In the Bible, the word "Sea" was spelled "Say," and "Sayville" became the name he sent to Washington. After the error was discovered, the town sent a letter of protest to Washington; however, the Postmaster General responded that the town's name should stay "Sayville," as there were many Seavilles in the world but no Sayvilles. As a result, the name stuck. Incidentally, in some very old Bibles, the town name is also spelled "Saville."
