Came in on Saturday night. The parking lot did not have many cars in it at 6:30pm, which made me kind of nervous. We walked in to an unattended hostess station and looked around, not sure whether to go up or down. The not-so-friendly hostess eventually came over and told us about our options for where to sit.
Our waiter was very friendly and knew the menu really well. My sandwich was great and was served on fresh bread. It was very filling. My wife had the turkey entree and enjoyed it. The bill was reasonable.
Overall, a good experience. If the hostess wasn't sitting a few tables away from us with a sour puss on her face sipping her water, it may have been a better experience. She should really have been sitting near the door so that first timers don't feel like they're walking in to a haunted house. Or, she could have stayed home and sipped her water on her own time...
Good thing this wasn't my first visit here or it may have been the one and only time.
Tonight's experience ranks up there with the absolute worst experiences I've had when eating out somewhere. Â When your visit to the establishment starts with being tailgated by an employee on part of the drive there, you have to wonder how the experience will be. Â Even more so when said employee is the server you get stuck with.
The place is usually pretty bad about having someone ready to seat people. Â That was nothing new and didn't surprise me when we walked in and saw nobody at the host area like always. Â When he finally found out we were there he had to rush and clean a table before seating us and promising to bring us back menus.
A good ten minutes later our server wanders over to our table and asks what we would like for drinks. Â We ordered and also ordered some menus to which he seemed embarrassed that we did not have any. Â It was just the start of him being embarrassed towards us the entire time we were there.
The nacho appetizer we ordered was lackluster. Â The burger my fiancee had was also lackluster. Â My white pizza was as good as always, one of the consistently good things about Owen O'leary's. Â The server forgot to bring over an ordered drink a few times. Â Was never really checked up on to see if we needed anything, etc, and the one time he did and my fiancee ordered an additional drink, it took a long time for it to arrive to which he said was 'technical difficulties'.
We were able to witness the walking technical difficulty known as the bartender later on after we ordered desert beverages.  It took a  good 20+ minutes for her to even finish making them.  She seemed to do everything humanly possible besides finish making our drinks.  Our drinks sat on the bar partly made for almost the whole 20+ minutes and our server had to actually complete making one of them for her!  Being able to watch her not make our drinks just heightened our frustration at the whole experience.  Then to top it off, the actual real desert we wanted they were out of ingredients to make it!  He didn't tell us until after the desert drinks were ready and by that point we didn't want to wait another 20-30 minutes for something else so we had the drinks and left.
I might want to go there again for the white pizza. Â For everything else? Â I think my days of wanting to go to Owen O'leary's for anything else are over.
