I bought a bunch of Living Social vouchers for the Beer and Bacon tasting so I could get a group of friends together and go to this. Â I've been 3 times previously over the last several years, and it's always fun to bring new people.
The owner used to come to each table and explain the beer, the bacon, and the pairing. Â That made the experience more fun and interesting, certainly added value to experience. Â This time around, it was the guy pouring the beer for the table of us who apparently was supposed to tell us about the pairing, and he explained 2 out of the 5 pairings. Â He also took all of about 20 seconds to do so, and couldn't have been more blase about it. Â The other 3 times we were served our beer and bacon, and no one said anything about the pairing at all. Â Someone poured the beer, someone put a few pieces of bacon on each of our plates, and then they just walked away. Â Um, what? Â Having been to this 3 times previously, I was very excited to bring a group of friends (9 people) who had never been before and show them how much fun this is. Â Unfortunately, the experience I had on 3/9 was very disappointing compared to all 3 of my previous experiences.
Had I paid the full price of $36, I'd be even more disappointed and ticked off. Â The experience we all had was barely worth $18, and certainly not worth $36.
A great bar to have around the neighborhood. One of the best beer selections I've ever encountered, with a well-informed staff always willing to provide recommendations. Very good food, obviously you have to try a bacon sampler at some point.
Highlights include the Bacon Grenades (too heavy for one person, order to split) and the Gigantor BLT (1/2 lb of bacon!). Also, $3.95 for a cup of the Guinness Stew is an absolute steal, counting the toast it comes with can easily serve as a complete meal in and of itself.
Also, they have a monthly special draft beer for $4, this month is Pilsner Urquell, in the past they've had Fat Tire and Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen.
