going to this place fo lunch

After hearing a lot of buzz about this place, I finally got to try it out tonight.  I was initially disappointed as they ran out of the catfish po boy, so I opted for the sausage po boy, which was AMAZING.  It had a balanced amount of fatty juice oozing out with each bite, and the soft french bread, cajun mayo/sauce concoction, and the coleslaw made it the perfect package.  5 stars for the po boys alone.

We dined in and ordered all the side dishes except for cornbread.  Overall, they were pretty good (especially for the price and being unlimited)  Here is the breakdown:

    MUST get:
-Creole:  I still loved it despite being a bit too spicy for my weak ass.
-Garlic stew:  Like the creole, it packs major heat.  I loved the cajun flavors!
-Coleslaw:  I'm not a fan of coleslaw, but Papa Roux's is the BEST I've ever had.  The veggies were so crisp and fresh, and I loved how it was more vinegar-based and very light on the mayo.

    Pretty good:
    -Etouffee: Personally, I like Yat's better - I just prefer it a chunkier/thicker texture.
-Red beans:  Slightly band, but it was alright still.
-Bread pudding:  It was delicious, but I wasn't overly impressed - however, I also am not crazy for this kind of dessert in general, so take it for what it's worth.

    Worth passing up:
-Applesauce: Disappointed as it tasted canned.  I thought it might've been homemade when I ordered it, but hey, you can't win them all.

I also think the place needs better lighting, and the decor has room for improvement.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy divey establishments, but Papa Roux had a slight grungy appearance, which I wasn't a fan of.  However, because the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced for what you get, it won't deter me from returning.  I hope I'll be able to try the catfish next time I'm there!

My most recent escaped took me to New Orleans where I had me and my stomach had a pending date for a catfish 'po boy.

    But....

    I was stood up.

    Indianpolis, Indiana.

Not really a city known to have a food soul, but after hearing some "chatter" about a hole in the wall that creates one of the best 'po boys out side of the Crescent City I decided it was time for me to check this place out.

Thanks to my Yelp app, I used the handy dandy map feature which took me right to the front door of another establishment.

oh oh...am I being stood up yet again?

Nope, just me not knowing my left from my right.

The place is simple and not at all fancy. (I like that)

Friendly 'po boy makers. (I like that)

Cramped seating. (I didn't like that)

The catfish 'po boy? Crispy on the outside and soft, french, warm and not at all "fishy". The roll I believe is house made, but even if it wasn't it was still incredible. The spread for sure is house made and if I were you, ask for a little on the side for dipping purposes.

NOLA comes to Indy. Check it out!

I had a great experience at Papa Roux.  Stopped in due to great yelp reviews and was not disappointed.  It's a great vibe - very low key, super friendly and helpful staff (thank you for helping me through the format of the restaurant!).  It was tasty - love the sauce.  The sides are what bring it down from a 5 to a 4, but still, unlimited sides if you eat in is pretty cool.  It was the highlight of my Indy trip for sure.

We LOVE Papa Roux!  The food is fantastic, the staff are friendly, and following Papa Roux on Facebook is fun and informative as you will find out new specials and upcoming new items!  We used to be on the east side more often, and I miss my Papa Roux!  The only thing I can complain about is that everyone else now knows of this awesome bit of New Orleans and it's always busy!  Plus, we are so far away now!  Yum Yum!

Love the Roux Croux. The food here is top shelf. As good as it gets. All the poboys are outstanding, you can get them served on a huge wedge of French bread or served over rice or my favorite over cornbread (for. the. win). Pulled pork is crazy good, chicken and beef, too. All the stews are awesome, favorite of mine is the garlick stew, or the less pungent cousin creole. Free unlimited sides, free brewed tea and the best cast of characters anywhere. You never know when Papa Roux is gonna run a special (catch of the day gulf seafood, some kind of wacky stew or other such madness) so be sure to catch the dude on Facebook or recently Instagram. I would be remiss not to mention my recent favorite the Frito Pie. Crumbled cornbread, heaping helpings of spicy Cajun chili, a grilled smoked sausage and Fritos corn chips. Add some onion, cheddar and sour cream and don't forget the proprietary recipe hot sauce! Can't miss.

I'm not sure why this place has such high reviews.

I went here for the first time and ordered the onion and provolone po boy. They were out of catfish, my first choice. So it was basically a mayo, cheese, and onion sandwich. That's it. It was so salty I couldn't finish more than 1/4 of it. My boyfriend got the same thing and it literally made him sick; he spent the rest of the night in the restroom. Date night = ruined. The sides weren't that great. The etoufee tasted like country gravy. The creole tasted like a can of tomato sauce. The garlic stew and red beans weren't bad, but they weren't great either.

Won't go back here. Yats is a much tastier, much cheaper cajun option that won't trap you in the restroom the rest of the evening.

Also, the restaurant itself had a really weird smell to it. Smelly feet mixed with old food, maybe? That should've been our first sign to go elsewhere. Lesson learned.

Fantastic food. Not Only is the food good, but if you dine in the sides are all you can eat.  I had the catfish po boy with creole, red beans, and bread pudding.  The cat fish was fried with a slight crisp and the sides were all very tasty.
There's not a lot of room so if you go for lunch be prepared for a crowd and a wait for a table.  It is well worth it. Lunch cost me around $13 with tip.

I wish I could rate Papa Roux higher than 5 stars. At least 6 or 7.

I don't mess around with the po'boys, I just go straight for the stew. The last time I was in, the young lady taking my order was all "Yeah we can put whatever you want in that stew." and I was all "Oh really. What about like a ton of sausage." and she was all "Sure man, no problem." and then she DID it and I ate the stew and it was so glorious.

    Great sides.

This is a great place. Its definitely someplace you want to eat in at rather than getting it to go. When you eat in you get free unlimited sides and iced tea. I don't know anything about Po-boy sandwiches so I can't really critique it other than to say it was delicious! My favorite though was the garlik stew. Its very spicy and i love spicy foods. I also love places that aren't commercialized and this place is far from it. There are two locations, this one and one downtown in City Market. I would give it 5 stars if they would give a larger portion side to go since you can only take home 1 and when you eat in you get as much of any side you want.

For 5 years, I worked a couple of miles from Papa Roux but never made it over here.   I didn't know what I was missing.    Unlimited refills on the amazing sides!    Terrific muffalettas.   The secret?   Ill tell you what I tell everyone...its the olive spread.

You can't be free drink and all you can eat sides.  I took two friends today - and they are both sold on the 'roux'.

I got the sausage po'boy no bread.  Comes on a slaw/rice bed with a great sauce.

What toux say? I was an early visitor to Rouxville but have never been as regular a customer as I've wanted to be. The original location (does that read as weird as it felt to type it?) gets crowded and loud and stays that way for most of Papa Roux's hours of operation.

Customers order at the counter but get served at the table and there are cards to place in a holder that alert servers that refills are needed for sides. It's a strange set up and can be disorienting, but that is part of the charm. Compounding the hectic vibe is the fact that the restaurant is very much a living organism. At any given time the owners, Art and Kathleen, might be updating, upgrading, or renovating something in, on, or around the restaurant. Art's take on cajun cooking as well as his hyperkinetic personal style has earned the restaurant (and him) a rabid following. The stews are all good, some are great, but the can't-miss dish on the menu is the po' boy.

The soft baguette, meat, cole slaw, sauce combo wins any way you order it, and Art likes to come up with special limited edition versions. As much as I want to try them all, I can't not order the pissed off (extra seasoning) Smoked Sausage Po' Boy. There are definitely easier sandwiches for a man with a beard to eat but few - if any - are more satisfying.

Pretty much AMAZING!!!!  We eat there all the time.  It's small so hit it at off times.  The Po Boys sandwiches are fabulous!  We have tried them all and still love the chicken one the most.  YOU MUST add provolone and onions on them, it makes them a million times better.  The side are the best part so order a half size sandwich.  We like mixing the Etouffe and the Creole, so delicious and such random flavors you can't find many places.
One of the best places to eat!!!

I forgot to mention that you get free sides if you dine in.
They need a larger building too.
It does help that they have a few tables outside.

We ate here to celebrate my friend's husband graduating from med school. He dragged us from downtown to the east side... "For sandwiches? Seriously. And cornbread? What the heck kind of cornbread is this?" I asked all the way there.

20 minutes later we were all stuffing our faces, and my prestigious doctor friend had Papa Roux juice dripping down his chin. We ordered as many sides as we could think of, and enjoyed the ambiance, the great service, and the FOOD.

Seriously. Eat the sandwich. Don't get the half if you can help it, because it's so good, I guarantee you can fit a whole sandwich in that belly of yours.

Simply THE best place for a taste of Cajun goodness here on the east side. Add the fact that they now have dinner hours every day they're open and this place can't be beat.  I love their chicken bacon cheddar po-boy and the variety of unlimited side dishes (like etouffee with rice, applesauce, red beans & rice, corn bread, french bread, bread pudding etc.) might have you wanting to eat there all the time. (I sure do!)

When I first moved from California to Indy a few months ago, an old friend took me to Papa Roux for lunch. I realize now that he was sending me a message: Indy has some places to eat that are as great or greater than anything on the West Coast.

Papa Roux has never disappointed us, and now our family heads there more than any other restaurant in town. There are plenty of reviews about the incredible po boys. They are all great, but I seem to have settled into a fulfilling monogamous relationship with the catfish.

The sides are great too; they range from the mild to the flaming hot, with everything in between. You'll find some you love and some you won't, but since they are free and all-you-care-to-eat that's okay. My four kids each have a few sides they love, so we never leave here without everyone being satisfied. My toddler does some serious damage to the red beans and rice!

I think what I love most is the vibe of the place though. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and Papa Roux has a vibrant and entertaining online fan club.

The antidote to tedious corporate chain restaurants is true mom & pop places like Papa Roux!

Note: They are extending their dinner hours starting soon - the announcement was up this week

Get there before the crowd because the seating is limited. If you can get in when its not busy, you can get unlimited sides and bread pudding. Woot! Great little hole in the wall. De-freakin-licious sandwiches! Like overflowing with meaty, spicy, saucey goodness. *drool* Every sandwich I've tried is killer. Wish they had a bigger spot. I'd love to sit here at lunch, or even outside, but usually it's overflowing with people at lunch. Wicked awesome food, cheap sandwiches, cool/punky staff. Great for those looking for something different on their lunch break.

Honey Who Shrunk the Po Boy?

Work demands kept Papa Roux out of my lunch rotation for a while.  On my visit this week I couldn't help notice that the Half Po Boy had shrunk by about 40%!

It's still a good sandwich but those not wanting a "petite" sandwich need to get the Full Po Boy, unless you want to load up on the mostly rice-oriented sides, to walk away full.

The "petite" or "half"  Po Boy with sides soft drink was about $9.  A good lunch but not a great value (unless you load up on more of the starchy sides).

Eat there - sides are free!  Not that you NEED sides, of course, but you can rationalize that they come in small (yet unlimited) portions.  The bread pudding ROCKS.   All the staff is very friendly and helpful.

One weekday tip: check Yelp and make sure they are open before you head over there, because once you've got a yearning for the Roux, the disappointment that happens if you come for dinner on a day they're not open for dinner is sad... but it'll be your own fault for not paying attention (yes, this happened to us).

We enjoyed the option of getting red beans plain, or with sausage, or with chicken.  Tried the half chicken po' boy, too: delicious!

I am from the coast. I'm prefacing this review by saying that because it is very pertinent. I lived very close to the ocean for my entire life, but Papa Roux (no joke) changed all that (seriously).

While in grad school in NC, I spent a good while debating whether I could give up the sun and the sand to move to landlocked Indianapolis to be with my boyfriend. I wish I could say that his awesomeness tipped the scale in Indiana's favor, but in all actuality it was catfish. From here.

During one of my monthly visits up North, boyfriend took me to Papa Roux after a long run. He suggested the catfish po boy and some (FREE!) sides. Crafty boyfriend. I was immediately hooked.

Some people will think this is hyperbole. To those people, I say this: I moved up to Indianapolis in December, and although I sometimes look back fondly at my sunny beaches and 75 degree winters, I feel confident in my decision because I did it all for love. The love of fried catfish.

Best cajun food, and possibly the best lunch, in the city. My hipster sister met me here for lunch one day and lured me with the promise of free, unlimited sides and bloated remorse. I had a full roast beef po-boy, with free sweet tea and tried half the sides on the menu. I had three hours until cross country practice; I'd be fine! Plus her bf knows the owner. That makes me a celebrity, right?

The po-boy was a hot, greasy mess. That sounds rather depressing, but I mean it in the best possible way. It was magically delicious. It was so big and filling that I immediately felt like I wanted to die after eating it, but I persevered to try all the sides I could. For posterity's sake.

I had my first taste of etouffee here and I loved it. I can't compare it to any other etouffee I've had... because I've had no other etouffee. Nonetheless it was very good etouffee (I think).

Bread pudding is also a side. How fun!

I also sampled their delicious cajun rice, red beans, and then some yellow creole mush substance that was not so great.  Apart from the mush, they were all delicious.

The staff was attentive and friendly and all the other cliche adjectives that describe good waitstaff. And there's a piano in there, so +1 for decor.

I grabbed a punch card on the way out. I cry every time I see it. Why do I have to live so far away from Papa Roux? If I'm ever on 10th and Post again (lol) I will definitely stop by and indulge myself.

P.S. Cross country practice that afternoon was a living hell. Cheers!

I just can't believe it took me so long to get here. I'm disappointed in myself that I have lived in Indy for 3 years and just now got to Papa Roux. I will never be the same again.

I order the pulled pork po-boy and it was delicious. Topped with cole slaw and a spicy mayo, it was probably a pound in total, and I ate every bit of it. This place is worth it for the sandwich alone, but that is not the end of the story.

The free, all you can eat sides are fantastic. I had 4 of them, and enjoyed each one. I especially like the red beans and rice. So now we're up to an awesome sandwich and awesome free sides, but wait, there's more.

Free tea. Sweet or not, it's good. I just can't believe all the different stuff you get with a po-boy here. It is unbelievable.

The staff are very friendly, whenever you need a side or drink you just put a card up on the holder on the table to let them know, and the next person to walk by will stop and take your order. It's a great taste for a shocking value. I won't wait 3 years to go back.

This was like a in the park home run. I was at the Indiana State Darts Tournament, and my team for the year wanted something awesome. The team was leaning toward Damon's Grill, but I wasn't going to settle for that. Found this place on yelp.

It was a Friday, and Catfish Friday was being advertised, I took the bait, and it was worth it, best catfish sandwich I ever had.  You have to order at the front, and then to dine in you take your seat then a waitress comes with drinks and side dishes. I recommend the garlic stew side dish, just the right amount of spice.

Anyway, I ate more than I should have, which is great that was available. The down sides, were that I didn't know how to work the sides, you put a card up on a stand, it says that on the card, but I didn't read it at first. The staff seemed annoyed I didn't know how their restaurant worked but the food quality made up for it.  I first got the impression that the atmosphere was sort of a college hang out, but then more people started filtering in, the place was packed by 5:00pm.

I've been eating at Papa Roux for about 3 years now and it has consistently gotten better over time. Every time I go in there I feel like they have made some sort of major improvement. The new tv screen menu looks great and I love the new card system to get more of the unlimited sides. The kids who are running sides and drink refills are doing a great job and working their rears off.

I typically get the chicken or shrimp (Gulf shore!) creole but had the vegetarian creole today. It's really spicy (the cashier warned me, which I appreciated) but is absolutely delicious. It has a really complex flavor that really goes well with the corn bread. I had the cole slaw which is wonderful. The sauce seems to have some kind of paprikaish flavor and is refreshing and crunchy.

The bread pudding was delicious. I kept wondering if they had some kind of angel food element to it, but I don't think so. It wasn't overly sweet. I love it! The free sides definitely make this the best value on the east side.

The owners are awesome as well. I love supporting local businesses that also support the community. Papa Roux had a tent at the Yelp 500 charity event and gave out free food. I love to see them busy and thriving!

Great tastes, great prices, and local.  What can be better?  this place has been on my 'try' list for awhile and I'm wondering why I waited so long.

The po'boys are huge and filled with fresh ingredients. The french bread is soft, the amount of meat on the sandwich is generous and it's topped with coleslaw and a vouxdoux mayo that will make you sing in pleasure.    I had a grilled sausage while my dining companion had the roast chicken. I'm slightly ashamed to admit this but I ate the whole thing and my fork may have ventured over to sample the tender roast chicken!  Quick tip - you can get a 1/2 sandwich (or you might consider sharing).  Next time I'll be sure to get a 1/2.

When dining in the sides are free and of course we sampled most of them.   I loved the Garlik stew and bread pudding!  Be warned the garlik stew is hot!!   Other sides include mushroom etouffee, french bread, coleslaw apple sauce, red beans and corn bread.

Bonus - as a downtown dweller I was excited to hear that a location has opened in City Market.

The writing's on the wall (literally). Papa Roux has earned it's place near the top of my favorite places.

    Where to start...

How about we start with some of the best creole cookin' in Indy?

Add to that one of the biggest and best tasting po' boys I've ever had. Seriously -- at least twice the size of a Jimmy John's sub, with 2-3 times the meat (fresher meat, mind you -- for about the same price). Plus -- I'm not exactly what the sauce was, but I left none for waste.

Want more? How about free UNLIMITED side dishes (within reason, folks). What are these side dishes: some tongue-searing creole, a smooth, lively etoufee, a garlic sauce with a kick, some awesome bread pudding, cole slaw, and corn bread (I did not try the latter two -- though there's slaw on the po' boy and it's very tasty.

The staff is friendly, and come at the raise of a little table flag -- to bring you more sides or a free drink refill.

Seriously -- for those who frequently prefer casual cuisine, Papa Roux can't be beat. My entire meal -- chix po' boy (which includes the unlimited sides) and a soda --  was  ~$10. I don't even think robbing a Subway would be as good a deal (disclaimer: don't rob a Subway! -- (1) cuz it's a bad idea, and (2) all you'd get are corporate cold cuts).

Oh man. I FINALLY had a chance to come into this place. So unique, and so affordable!

For lunch, a half chicken po boy was a decent size (and soooooo yummy. They were out of the cat fish, so I went with chicken), and you get free sides. I was actually a bit confused at first on the ordering process. You order your sandwich and drink when you walk in the door. Then you sit at your table, decide which sides you want, and place the card of sides in the place holder. I had the etouffe- It was pretty good- very creamy, slightly mushroom-y and a slight spice in the after taste.
I also had a slice of cornbread. The cornbread. Oh. Yum. It was moist, it stayed together- perfectly spongy in the best way cornbread should be. There were a few kernels of corn in it. My lunch was about $6 bucks. Seriously. Skip Subway or whatever the heck. Come here.

The decor is lovely... It did have a sandwich shop feel in that you hear people coming and going from the table. We sat under an outdoor tent inside. Everything has writing on it- It's all black and white. There are some fleur de lis hanging on the wall. It's pretty awesome.

I never thought I'd enjoy Cajun / Creole food as I thought it would be too spicy for me. Then I met my husband and my tolerance for spice started to improve. I kept driving by this place at 10th & Post that served Cajun po-boys. My husband is a lover of all things spicy and often talks about the po-boys and red beans and rice he ate while in New Orleans. After trying one Cajun place and being underwhelmed, I was excited when I found Papa Roux.

That weekend we popped over and were greeted by Mama & Papa Roux! Papa took time to explain the menu to us - mainly me as I had no idea what to expect. I went for the chicken po-boy and my husband ordered the smoked sausage po-boy. I don't know what in the sauce that goes on their po-boys, but I'm pretty sure it would taste good on anything. I'm a meat eater, but I'd be perfectly happy with the French Bread they use for their po-boys, slaw and the sauce and nothing else. I knew I had to bring my parents here. My father loves smoked sausage and my mom would love the chicken.

We started to frequent Papa Roux and tried the gulf shrimp po-boy. Now, I love shrimp and I love knowing where my food comes from, so when I heard Papa Roux talking about the Zirlotts, the family they get their shrimp from in Alabama, I had to try it. I was not disappointed! It was the best shrimp I've had. The combination of the tender shrimp, crunchy slaw and flavorful sauce is killer!

Wow! I haven't even mentioned the sides yet! My father loves the bread pudding. If he's not hungry and we're going he'll come along just for that. Plus, if you're dining in - the sides are FREE! You've gotta love that. I always lean towards the Etoufee; full of flavor! The red beans and rice are a must for my husband.

The staff is amazing and always friendly. It's nice walking in and hearing Papa's voice calling out orders and greeting guests. If you don't have plans on Fat Tuesday - bust out the Mardi Gras beads and head to Papa Roux! You won't be disappointed.

For those of you that work downtown, take advantage of the new Papa Roux location that is opening at the City Market! Help bring business back to the beautiful City Market with great local food!

I'll keep this short since it's mostly just an echo of other reviews. Good cajun/creole food. Unlimited sides. What else is there to say.

I wish they had better hours and seating can be a hassle during their busy times, but it's worth it for the food.

Papa Roux is one of the few perks about living on the far east side.

Finally made it to Papa Roux! Seriously I've had it on my stop by list for as long as they have been sponsors for Naptown Roller Girls. Finally happened to be on the eastside today and remembered to stop by and check it out.

    Thoughts:

Spicy! Got the Veggie Frito Pie and very very delicious.  Since I was an amateur I didn't know about the ordering the sides at the table (and until I read some reviews here I didn't know you could order additional ones).

Cornbread was excellent. On table was Louisiana The Perfect Hot Sauce but certainly didn't need to add it to my Frito Pie.

Highly recommended if you are in the mood for some delicious spicy food.

Will definitely be back again for more in the future.

Po-boys, po-boys, po-boys, oh my.  I used to work over on the East Side, about 10 minutes away from Papa Roux, which meant that I used to go there at least once a week for the better part of three years.  Part of my morning ritual would be to log in to Facebook to see what sort of special was running that day.  Be it jambalaya, Cajun stew, or the Thursday po-boy special, it was hard not to go everyday.  In addition to their regular line-up of chicken, pork, beef, and muffalletta po-boys, Fridays usually bring shrimp and catfish to the party (when BP isn't messing up the Gulf Coast supply chain).  Their specials are anything that Papa and Mama might come up with--be it the always popular cheeseburger, meatball (my favorite), or fried chicken.  My only problem is now I work in Noblesville.

Aside from the delicious food, the service is awesome.  The wait staff are always watching for you to "raise the flag" for refills or more (free & unlimited) sides.  The only downside of the whole experience is the oft-crowded dining room, albeit no fault of theirs--thank the City of Indianapolis for that.  By rough estimate, I've introduced at least 30 people on my own to this great family-owned restaurant, and each of them has walked away extremely satisfied.

After my Friday exodus, how do I not say "Woohoo! As good as it gets!?"

Chris M is right... if this place was closer to my home, I'd eat here daily. With unlimited free sides & free tea, there's a good chance I'd just linger here or make it my new office. Wait, screw I'll do it anyway.

Plus, I love running the flag up that pole (it's like The Maypole for Foodies).

Maybe it was the sunny Friday, maybe it was the fish po' boy options for Lent, or maybe it's just that damn good, but Papa Roux was slammed when we were there. I have a thing for slammed eateries -- read: I'd eat at slammed New York delis daily if I could where men yell at me "take a number!" And this had that feel to it.

How do I resist a roasted pork po' boy with the possibility of adding "crunchy bits of bacon goodness" to it? You're right. I can't. So I did. And, I was kindly rewarded with pork to the dome -- somuchso other patrons of Papa Roux were said to see me have a giant pink pig head on my body that day.

    Creole side: spicy, strong.
Etoufee: peppery and creamy... the way it should be. I'll be back to order the entree with some sort of sea-faring beast.

If you dine out in Indy at casual locations, there's a good chance you'll spend between $6 - $12, and there's no reason not to spend it at locally owned eateries -- especially ones with badass cajun eats, graffiti on the walls, service faster than the roller girls they support and ones (like Papa Roux) that give you a sense of ceremony, creativity and this is your last day on Earth, so eat here. Cheers to that.

I can't give 5 full stars because the food wasn't quite as spicy as I feel it should have been.

    Otherwise, I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Have been looking for an authentic-ish Cajun/Creole restaurant in Indy. Don't get me wrong, I love Yats, but it's not really authentic. You can't say you are Cajun if you don't have a po'boy!

You get a TON TON TON of food for a small amount of money. I was all delicious.

The red rice and beans was great, although a little on the mild side. I had the daily special po'boy which was chicken, bacon and cheese. I was skeptical at first, but damn, it was good!

I'm not one for creole, but my coworkers all loved it.

And you can get Frito Pie, which is always a WIN in my book.

Yum!!!!!!!!!!! I've been wanting to try Papa Roux for awhile now. I had a breadless Po-Boy with Creole Sausage (breadless meaning that it was served over white rice). You place your order at the counter and then find a seat. The servers come and ask you what sides you would like (all FREE & UNLIMITED) while you are waiting for your meal. At your table there is a flag that you raise when you would like a refill or more sides.

I definitely will be going back.... (now, if they would ONLY add beignets to their menu..)

I might say 3.75, but the owner was super friendly

Went here for lunch last Halloween.  They had a special where you could get buy one get one free if you wore a halloween costume.  Evidently I was the only person who wanted to cash in on this idea.

So Papa Roux's is a Cajun joint.  The got plenty of cajun favorites from etoufees, to gumbo to po boys.  According to my co-worker, the owners of this joint are New Orleans natives, and decided to set up shop in Eastern Indy.

AMBIENCE/SERVICE- Can't really comment too much on both as I grabbed take out, but the owner was really friendly.  Seating looked decent, and it looks like they encourage their patrons to write on the wall.  One other cool thing I saw is that they had a cow bell instead of a "regular bell" to get their attention.

MENU- as I had mentioned before, plenty of cajun favorites.  Not being too well versed in cajun food, I can't say that they have ALL of them, but they had a pretty nice mix- jambalaya, pork chops, po boys, dirty rice, stews, etc...They also have a number of vegetarian dishes which happen to be healthy as well (vegetables healthy?  The hell you say).

FOOD- for my buy one get one free I sampled the chicken and sausage stew and a spicy smoked sausage po boy.  With each meal you get free sweet tea (until 3pm daily) and I got a side of the parmesan rice.  While I can't say much for the parmesan rice, both entrees were indeed tasty.

The stew had a nice spice to it- not SO hot, but a nice bite to it.  The chicken and sausage were tasty.  As for the po boy, I enjoyed that quite a bit as well.  I'm normally not a fan of cole slaw, but the sausage and red beans worked really well with the slaw.

OVERALL- gotta love the buy one get one free.  Even without it, they have daily lunch specials, and most items are no more than $8-10.  I do wish they were a bit closer, because I have a Yats down the street from me, and it's hard to rationalize driving past them to go eat here.  I would say if you're in the area, check this place out for something different.  Is it worth a 25-30 minute drive?  If there isn't a yats near you?  Yes.

Chuck Norris Rating- 1000 years of pain strike!
