Being a "Jerry," Paul & Jerrys Saloon has always held a special place in my heart as I pretended to be that partner sitting at the bar slurping down a few brews. Yeah. I knew it wasn't me, but, hey!, it was so much fun to make believe.

As noted, the place is dark and somber, and one needs a strong jolt of imagination to picture what it was like in 1910, when the dust from the mines on Mt. Mingus drove workers to P & J's to wet their whistle and wash down the choking grit that wrapped around town like a smog blanket.

These days of faded glory, you just stop in for a few cold 'uns while wandering through the shops and galleries that have resurrected Jerome in recent decades.  Go play Ms Pacman, or shoot the sh*t with one of the barkeeps; then head up to the Haunted Hamburger to balance out the alcohol with good grub, or down town to the Flatiron Cafe if you can't take the altitude or prefer a brighter, fresher venue for a meal.

Whether you're high or low, it is all good, my friends.

PS. I am wearing my Paul and Jerrys T shirt today.

I stopped in the for the history, but this place has nothing going for it. It's plain and after you move past the initial 10 minute excitement that youre in an old salon - it's boring. No food means its hard to stay. I like to snack while I drink. No live music, jute box in the corner. There's a couple ratty pool tables and a ms pacman in the back. Place is really dark too.

They say it's important to stay hydrated in the desert so about halfway through Jerome we stumbled upon Paul & Jerry's in search of something to hydrate us. Though I highly doubt beer was what "they" were talking about.

For two California kids, the prices cannot be beat. We got a small pitcher of Bud for what one bottle would cost us here.

Friendly service, cool atmosphere. The bartender, Greer, I think his name was, is very friendly and talkative.

    Bring your cash, not cards.
