Drove by this place for years, and never peeked inside. Â Until I noticed a big sign that they were remodeling and adding a patio. Â Finally, stopped in for a summer eve "catch up" with a girlfriend: they do have a very pleasant pebbled outdoor eating area: mission-style wood furniture and some umbrellas, along with a charming corner seating made of polished and lacquered wood trunks. Â The eating area is separated from the rear parking lot with a row of
We came in for drinks and nibbles, but there was no seating outdoors. Â Thus, we elected to stick to beverages only, on the "log" furniture [quite comfy, actually], and had to fetch the drinks from the inside bar ourselves. Â
I scanned the menu: it's primarily standard American fare, with options for vegetarians, pescetarians and carnivores. Â The prices appear on the high end of mid-range. The major down side is insufficient parking on pleasant days.
Cute place, good service. Our burgers were good, but could have been awesome if they weren't well done, but cooked medium rare like we asked. This was my first time there, and being in this business for a long time, I understand there are off days. We will give it another shot sometime.
Review Source:This place has been a favorite for a while. Recently my wife and I went for lunch and the server seemed in a rush to get us out. We really just wanted to relax and have a lazy afternoon of cocktails. Â The salad was a bit overpriced and the drinks were not brought out fast enough. They have great muscles here but the lunch service has been lacking the last 2 or 3 visits.
Review Source:I love the vibe. Â This is an old farmhouse that has been a pub for the longest time. Â Over the recent years the back of the house has been turned into a pretty hip dining area - complete with a second bar.
The menu is complete, with steaks, chicken, pasta, soups, salads and apps. Â The food is decent to good. Â They do not take reservations so on a Friday or Saturday you should come ready to wait a few minutes...You can however eat at the front bar.
With good food and a neat vibe, I'll make my way back to the Pineville again soon.
The Pineville Tavern is worth a try just for the historic structure and ambiance in the older rooms. Â Someone once said you can't eat the atmosphere, but here it is possible to almost taste it. Â The institution is worthy of respect.
The latest changes have been both good and bad. Â Read the other reviews to understand the complaints and disappointments. For me, this place has always been about beer, wings, burgers, and rice puddling. Â The other stuff designed to attract a wider audience may not float everyone's boat. Â
Stick with what they do best, and you will leave happy and full.
I just want to say that on behalf of the valet staff for Pineville tavern, the reason there is valet parking at this restaurant is because the lot could not fit the capacity of the restaurant. Â It isn't to "spruce" up the place or try to come off as a high-end joint. Â The employees are forced to park on lot taking up about 20 or so spots. Â We (the valet team) park 5 cars to every 4 spots and even with that we end up double parking about 10-15 cars before the lot re-clears and spaces become available. Â We enable the restaurant to do more business. Â It pains me to read the negative comments about the valet staff by individuals that don't understand our purpose there. Don't let these yelp comments fool you we are appreciated and understood by the overwhelming majority of folks who visit.
Review Source:We had a group of friends for a special birthday-table for 10.  They don't take reservations, so my husband and I got there early (and brought a cake for the celebration).  We handed the cake, in the bakery box, to the host as we arrived.  We were there early enough to speak to our waitress and describe the birthday person.  The waitress agreed that she would bring out the cake out once the table was cleared. Our friends arrived and we had a nice meal--food was quite good.  As the dining room began to fill up, our service slowed considerably.  The table was cleared and we waited, and waited.  Eventually, the waitress came out with the cake, still in the closed bakery box! She stood there while we all stared at her.  The surprise was a complete flop.  We wound up taking the box from her, sang Happy Birthday to our less-than-surprised friend....opend the box, asked for a knife and began to serve ourselves.  I know we will all laugh about this eventually, but I'm confused  that the waitress thought this was a good idea.
I think this is a place that can serve good food to small groups of people, with NO added finesse. Â I wouldn't plan a special occasion here again that's for sure. Â If you want classy, fine-dining--you'd better keep looking.
If you appreciate food preparation... this is your place. Between the snapper soup and raviolis, you can taste that it's all made from scratch. The main star reduction has to do with the prices not proportionate to portion sizes. Not a deal breaker but this won't be cheap to eat at either. Pineville Tavern is easy to find: It's on the main drag along PA 413/Durham Road about 10 minutes north of the Newtown Bypass... not too far from I-95. I wish i could give them 3.5 stars but since I can't, they are staying at 3 stars.
Review Source:We've been coming here on and off for over 30 years, experiencing its many ups and downs. In the past, the ups were when the owner concentrated on the place; the downs were when he'd obtained another food establishment and ignored the Pineville while he focused on that new business.
Not long back, there was a long stretch when it was quite good and co-owned by Roger, who was also their main chef and damned good. It got plenty of buzz, and was highly publicized just as it was set to go downhill after Roger sold out his share and a new generation took the helm.
Nature abhors a vacuum, so this summer a competitor, the Publick House, opened 1.2 miles away off Township Line Road in the village of Wycombe. It got off to a rocky start, but quickly shifted gears and now appears to be doing what the Pineville Tavern used to do in its heyday. No silly valet parking, either.
Given its visible location and past publicity, the Pineville can probably continue to thrive off passers-by and the like pretty much no matter what. Still, hopefully it will eventually return to doing what it long did best: offering honest good food, properly served, in a convivial environment. Until then, there's a better option two klicks away.
Hadn't been here for a couple of years, so we decided to stop for lunch on a Friday. Â There was no valet parking, but it wasn't needed anyway.
We like to sit in the bar area which hasn't been remodeled (thankfully, it has so much charm). Â Service was slow considering the only patrons were locals sitting at the bar for an early happy hour. I had their orange-tini cocktail which was ok, but not worth $8.50! Â Beer was a reasonable price, around $3. Â We started with French Onion Soup....good, hot, but nothing exceptional. Â We both ordered cheeseburgers and they were excellent. Â Cooked perfectly, fresh lettuce and tomato...a really good burger. Â
We have always had good food here, I think it is a bit pricey now for what you get. Â We will stop here again, but it's not on the top of our list.
Immediately I was struck by the back up of cars trying to get into the Pineville Tavern...the reason?! Valet. Is this a five-star, jacket only restaurant? Alas, no. The restaurant-imposed valet was a bit over the top and obnoxious. To add to this first impression was the headset-clad hostess calling another to check that there was room for us at the bar in the back. Next time I'll take the back bar entrance gladly. I believe most of this hoity toitiness comes from PT's cameo on Diners Driver-ins and Dives. Despite the addition, mural and the bells and whistles, take me to the original please. The bar was darker with an oval two-sided bar, the Phillies game on every TV in the room, maroon plastic tableclothed tables dotting the room, with specials on the chalkboard. Now this is my idea of a tavern.
We ordered cheeseburgers, they were fresh perfectly cooked and had a great grill taste. I was very satiated. The salad with homemade ranch dressing hit the spot as well.
If you choose to bear the valet, go straight to the bar entrance, that's the place to be.
I have been yearning to try this place for months now. I used to pass it all the time on my way to work but never stopped in as it was under construction for some time. After hearing about it on DDD, I started following them a little closer and couldn't wait to try their food. Finally, the day arrived that my husband and I could try out Pineville Tavern. We started off with the an order of the cheesesteak egg rolls and an order of the Buffalo chicken egg rolls. Both of them were AMAZING and kept me craving more. I wanted to get another round of them, but convinced myself that I should try some of the other staples, so then I moved onto the Snapper Soup since that was what was featured on DDD. It kind of reminded me of a pumpkin soup. It's certainly different, but I wasn't able to finish it...just not up my alley. Next, we moved onto the Handmade ravioli with an order of garlic bread. I liked the garlic bread but was not crazy about the ravioli. Overall, the ravioli just didn't have much flavor and the tomato sauce was on the watery side. I would probably return to Pinevile for drinks (they have a great selection), egg rolls, and possibly to try out their brunch because I really wanted to love this place.
Review Source:I've been here many times through the years and remember when it was much better years ago...That being said, it's not bad today, i just recall the steak being better in the past.
As for Burgers, this place rocks!!! Really everything on the menu is good, and i don;t think anything will let you down. The staff are really nice and many have worked here for years which is a good sign.
I prefer the middle room, or the original dining room, it's quiant country and really pleasent, has european flare to it:))
The beer selection here is great and the bar is friendly, and so glad it's non smoking...Thank you for that.!!!!
I don't care for the valet parking.... and feel like it's overkill, this place is what it is and it's all the better for that.
The Pineville is totally worth a stop !!
Drove a long detour to get to this place during our return trip from our food crawl to NYC. Â Don't waste the time and drive. Â It's not bad but nothing special and certainly not worth the trip. Â The turtle soup was OK and the we've had better ravioli. Â The rest of the dishes we had were typical tavern food. Â Nothing special.
Review Source:On a recent Satutday night I went to Pineville tavern for dinner with some friends. I am a local and go there often. On my last visit I came accross the most unfrienly and least helpful hostess I have ever run accross. I was told her name is Bria.
If she is the hostess when you go, run as quickly as you can to the other host stand (at the opposite end of the restaurant) and look for Sharon. She is everything Bria is not and should be.
I've been to this place 75-100 times..
The good: a tavern with above avg bar food, a good beer selection, and an interior with some character. Â The money they recently put into the place has spruced up the joint and the patio out back is a great place to have lunch when it's nice outside
The bad: Â due to the tv exposure this place got on "diners, drive ins and dives", there's 45 min waits for tables on fri nites and valet parking on weekends. Â It's a tavern folks. Â I shouldn't have to valet my car and wait 45 min for a table at a spot where I'm gonna order a buffalo chicken sandwich and pitcher of beer. Â Valet parking and buffalo chicken should not mix! Â
In summary, the bar food is good, the crab cakes are solid, and they do a good job with the ravioli.. That being said, I long for the days you could roll up in this place at 7pm, park your own damn car, and have a beer and a couple apps in front of you by 7:15. Â Save the valet parking, and the waiting for a table at the bar, for the forays into the city at one of dem fancy joints.
Arrived early on a Saturday evening and chose to eat at the bar, mainly because I didn't want to use the mandatory valet parking which is enforced for the dining room on the weekend. Â Service at the bar was pleasant but slow until I placed my order. Â Once my order was placed food came in short order. Â Had an appetizer, house made cheesesteak egg rolls, which were very tasty and seemed fresh. Â The bartender also did a very good of refilling my coke without asking. Â My entree was a half portion of prosciutto, peas and cream over penne pasta. Â This was tasty though I could easily prepare the same dish at home with minimal effort. Â I am certainly glad I got the half portion as it was alot of food. Â Overall this was a good dining experience. Â I recommend the egg rolls to anyone that would like to try something a little different.
Review Source:So anyone who knows Guy Fieri, knows that he goes over the top, when he really likes something. Â If he thinks that something is lousy, he talks makes comments like, "you can really taste the cumin". Â His PVT spot was laced with ho-hum jibber jabber.
Bottom line: Â it is just not that good. Â
I agree with reviewers that mention the recent decline. Â Maybe the hype has elevated the expectations beyond what it is. Â A decent spot for some bar food and a beer.
And I agree about the service. Â It a mix of unprofessional twenty year olds, and rude crusty townies.
We live about 10 minutes away and have been wanting to go here for years. We finally got a babysitter and headed up 413. We were very excited to experience PVT, my wife had been looking at the menu online all week. We got there at 7:30 on a Saturday night and it was packed, which is to be expected. However, the free valet parking made our arrival super easy. We waited about 30 mins in the bar area for our table. Once we got our seat, our waitress, who was new, but awesome, took our order and delivered our food quickly. I had the pasta bolognese with broccoli and cheddar soup. Also had the wings, which were pretty big. Service was quick and friendly, atmosphere was casual. Food was superb, we'll be coming back over and over.
Review Source:Friendly neighborhood place known for its pasta, meatballs, and snapper soup. Cheers like atmosphere where you can chat with your neighbors at the bar. During the summer, enjoy Freddies Tomatoes, locally grown tomatoes with onion and blue cheese and a light wine vinegar. Â Place loses points for the teens that require you to valet park on the weekends. Enjoy their new patio in back while the weather is still nice.
Review Source:I used to love PVT prior to its expansion with the take-out addition. It was a place where my partner and I stopped while on motorcycle rides in the area, and due to its biker-friendly feel and overall coziness, it was "our place" during late-spring and summer months. The last time we visited (post-expansion) was our last. We went on a Friday night and were met with valet parking. Valet at PVT? Fortunately we were on a motorcycle so we were able to bypass the valet parking, but if you came via a four-wheeled vehicle, it didn't appear as though you could do that.
We were seated at an extremely tiny table in a corner at the threshold between the bar area and the dining area. On our way to the table we both noticed the beer selections on the board and were excited about a particular one that was listed. We ordered said beer and were told they didn't have any and they just "forgot to change the board." Ok, so we ordered different beers and the PVT crisis was seemingly averted.
I ordered a pasta dish that was made with a cream sauce, prosciutto, and peas. The prosciutto was more like boiled deli ham than a dry cured Italian meat. Â My partner ordered the linguine and red clam sauce, which is a shockingly small portion for a whopping $16.95. Our waitress was one of the absolute worst I'd ever experienced. When she actually remembered we were one of her tables, she was just half-assing all her work, like bringing bread with butter and failing to realize or even care that there were no knives on the table for a good ten minutes after we received the bread. After our food seemed to take a lot longer than everyone else's to come out, we realized she had just never put in the order, which was pretty obvious when the "oh sh*t" look spread across her face the one time she decided to actually check on us. The table was consistently cluttered throughout the night because of her inattentive serving style, and the entire experience was just annoying.
It's sad. Gone was the biker-friendly PVT and here was the new overpriced PVT that seemed to be going for an upscale vibe complete with extremely overpriced pasta dishes and valet parking. Â So now we travel a couple of miles down the road and attempt to recapture that cozy "our place" feeling at the Candlewyck Beef & Ale since PVT is no longer worthy of it.
the huge outdoor dining area was lovely on a sunday evening. Â i love it when romaine is grilled in a caesar salad. i got an order of steamers as well. the flavor was wonderful but there were a handful of clams that were a bit gritty. the service was great. all in all it was a nice experience, except... Â
i HAD to try the snapper soup, if only because guy fieri was here highlighting the house specialty. Â i was underwhelmed at best. maybe it's because i was trying a hearty stew in summer. maybe it just wasn't a good batch. snapper has the consistency of a leather boot. also, it tasted like beef stew thrown in a blender with pumpkin pie. the spices overwhelmed the entire dish. maybe that's the point though? i can't imagine snapper turtle having a nice flavor on its own.
in conclusion, guy fieri is a liar and the snapper soup is not THE dish to get here. not quite sure what THE dish is but everybody else at the table was pleased with their meals - probably because they skipped the leather boot soup.
After all the hype I've read from the Bucks County Food Blog and praise from Guy on DD&D we figured that we had to try this gem in our back yard. Wow, what a total disappointment.
The imposed valet parking should have been my clue to go away. Pineville has a large, private parking lot, do they really need to valet? Sure it's "free" but forces a tip & I know I can park  my own car; the 16y/o taking it from me? I'd rather not find out.
We did get seated immediately on a Friday night in their intimately sized dining room. The hardwood floors and plaster walls do cause quite a din, making it difficult to have a conversation with my wife who sat across the table from me.
My wife ordered the "famous" snapper soup and special handmade crab raviolis. I had just the handmade cheese raviolis (the ones featured on DD&D). The soup was just boring. No body, no amazing flavor, just initial hints of all spice and chewy turtle meat.
Raviolis come out quickly. Too quickly since we had not finished the soup or salads (simple side salads that are included with the meal and are served on too small of a plate).  I am not a fan of crab, so I didn't taste her food, but she loves crab....most of the raviolis are now in a take home box and will find their way into our garbage later today. My cheese raviolis  looked promising, with a bright red, fresh tomato sauce and a sprinkling of fresh parsley. But once I tasted them? They were really just not impressive at all. The cheese filling had a distinct brininess to them and a very grainy texture. The pasta was too thin and also flavorless.
We definitely will not be going back if their two signature dishes (raviolis and snapper soup) are that sub-par.
Allow me to recap my history with the Pineville Tavern...
At one time my family and I would come here somewhat regularly. The food was altogether pleasant and I would generally recommend it to anyone who asked.
I'm sad to say the Pineville Tavern is on the decline. I can't quite put my finger on the underlying problem. I can't help but wonder if its the increasing popularity received from their appearance on the Food Network. I generally get the feeling the staff is inexperienced and  overwhelmed therefore not able to keep up with what is demanded of them.
On my last visit:
- The wait staff seemed inexperienced, mixing up all of our orders and drinks. When asked to fix the mistakes we were given a slightly snobby vibe as if we were inconveniencing them and being difficult.
- My caesar salad had gritty lettuce that hadn't been washed and was slightly brown on the tips. Whoever made the salad tried to cover it up by drizzling dressing on top of it.
- The food portions were inadequate and the raviolis I ordered were subpar.
Also please note:
- Pineville does not take reservations.
- Pineville has a password protected wifi that is not intended to be used by its customers - I asked my server for the password and she declined.
-Pineville  Best Nights: Wed, Thu, Sat are not true.  Waited an hour on non crowded Wednesday night. Â
So with that said, would I recommend the Pineville to a friend or family member? Most likely not. Will I go back? No.
Food was good. Ordered take out. I got the ravs since that is what guy from Diners Drive Ins and Dives ordered. Â I also got the snapper soup. Not enough meat and had way too much nutmeg in it for me but it was ok. Ravs didn't have enough sauce and the bread was missing. I don't think I will be going back. Not to mention it was very pricey and small portions.
Review Source:After seeing the Pineville Tavern on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, we decided to give it a try.
The restaurant itself has a comfortable decor (as long as you're not bothered by the deer and other dead animal heads mounted to the walls).
We stopped in for lunch and ordered a PVT Turkey club and a pizza. The service was good and the staff were very friendly.
The pizza was made with what seemed like a pre-made crust. It was soggy and had too much cheese. We've had frozen heat at home pizzas that were better. The old saying that even bad pizza is still pizza did not hold true here.
The club was very disappointing. The bacon was severely undercooked, to the point where I was concerned about health risks. The rest of the sandwich was just ok. There was lots of turkey on it but the lettuce was not crisp and the tomatoes were not great - could have been riper. Â
Prices were a bit on the high side too. Sadly, this is not a place I'd recommend. Â We chose 2 pretty simple dishes and they were both bad.
This place is definitely one of my favorites to go after a day of walking around in New Hope or Peddlers Village. My family always had a tradition of going to get our Christmas tree near Peddler Village and then stopping at Pineville Tavern for dinner.
Like everyone said here, the atmosphere is warm and casual. I usually go with the "steak and cake" which is a filet mignon and a crab cake. Highly recommend their crab cakes!
The Pineville Tavern has changed hands several time over the past 35 years. Â In its current incarnation (apparently since 1989 - dayamn I am shoing my age), the food is much improved and it is more of a "real" restaurant - or perhaps a "Gastropub" than a bar.
You can still get sandwiches and burgers and brews, but now you get get real meals as well.
Sit in the back and it feels less like a bar (the bar's out front.)
Update: Oh - and no, I had no idea when I wrote this review that Pineville tavern was gonna be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives tomorrow night! Â ACK! Â I bet they'll get real busy!
All good. The fact that you may have to wait on a friday or saturday night tells you something.
The specials are very good, and I feel better than the regular menu, not that the regular menu is lacking. I remember once getting a ravioli dish-some kinda chi-chi filling, and not getting very many of 'em, but, hey, that was a long time ago. Whatever I order I am always happy with here.
I have not had any problems with the staff.
Great casual tavern atmosphere, I feel at home in casual or more dressed up. I prefer sitting in back when I am just dining, it gets kinda noisy up front where the bar is located.
Food is good but have to say entered the new entrance and was hit with a not so plenty smell. Â It reminded me of the nursing home I hope I'm never in. Â Maybe bathrooms are not put in the best location. Go in the old way and ask to be seated by this bar, you'll have a better dining experience.
Review Source:My sister and her family live in the area and have been going here for years. Â Finally had a chance to hit this yesterday for lunch.
tomato crab bisque - delicious, and perfect for a windy, rainy day.
crab cake sandwich - lot of crab, not much breading, classic presentation.
cheese steak - succulent.
price - very reasonable.
This is what you wish your "local" was like. Â Warm atmosphere, classic setting. Â Quite a find.
See our review - and the people behind the Pineville - on our blog (see profile for address).
Here's an excerpt:
When you walk into the Pineville Tavern , a couple of things hit you right off the bat. It's warm. Everyone - staff and customers - seem to be in a good mood. There's a buzz of people enjoying themselves. And it feels like it's been this way forever.
In fact, the Pineville Tavern has been around since 1742 (see its Web site for more history). It sits at the intersection of Route 413, and Pineville and Township Line Roads, straddling two townships, Buckingham and Wrightstown, in central Bucks County.
Like a lot of good things, what seems natural and effortless has a lot of intention and hard work behind it. As regulars at the Pineville, or PVT, we were curious as to how the staff was doing it and what got them there.
To find that out, you have to go to Andrew Abruzzese, owner of the PVT for the last twenty years. It was our pleasure - Andrew is a wonderful storyteller - to sit down with him and his son, Drew Abruzzese to talk about their history and their future...
My girlfriend and I were driving around (semi-lost) after leaving New Hope and happened on this very nice road house. Â If you move past the smoke-filled bar area, the seating and atmosphere in the non-smoking back rooms is very nice, laid back and comfortable. Â My crab cakes were excellent and the service was efficient and friendly. Â The prices were a good value for this really nice find.
