Review Source:Pinsetter is a very cool bowling alley. First of all, the place seems classy, shiny, and new in comparison to all the dingy alleys that have been around for ages. And yet it somehow maintains the laid back charm of a bowling alley, doesn't come off trendy or hipster. It remain familiar & comfortable.
There are several lanes with big screens at the end that play music videos. The panels where you enter bowlers' names and whatnot are newish, but seemed hard to use--i.e. people I was with were struggling to push buttons and actually have letters or cursor moves happen. The shoes, however, have shoelaces and are pretty sweet. The threads light up under the black lights.
I was at Pinsetter this past weekend for a fundraiser, and it was a great event. Unbeknownst to me, there is an upstairs. This is where people entered raffles and such during the event. The staff put up a partition to separate the lanes reserved for the event, and there is another room down a few steps where desserts and other tables were set up. Every other screen of the reserved lanes showed a screen for the foundation we were supporting. It was a simple but very nice touch. There was always someone walking in and out to clean up trash and used dishes, or to bring people another drink.
That's the other nice thing about Pinsetter. They have a nice bar. There are booths separated from the lanes by ceiling to floor curtains. The food is decent, from what I remember, and it's enticing to stay after a couple games of bowling. Some nights they have karaoke, and it really just runs like a typical bar.
The Cupid Shuffle came on. An entire section of the alley broke out in dance. No one batted an eye.
This is the best bowling experience I've had.
Yes I've been to North Bowl, you whinny self-righteous hipster. Although, I'm sure you only thought North Bowl was" cool" for the first week that it was open, when you were the only one who knew about it, and the thought of bowling seemed really ironic.
Yes I've been to Lucky Strike, you unimaginative, bandwagon elitist.
Pinsetters blows them both away. It was worth it to go to a different state (literally ten minutes from Philly) to get this experience. Say hello to customer service. "My name is Mark, should you need anything, just let me know." Not just grunts in response to a barrage of shoe sizes. Actual human conversation. I was befuddled. A bar that had options that weren't limited to bud and bud light. I had a darn grey goose martini at a bowling center and I didn't feel douchy. I WAS IN HEAVEN.
*note to self* the vodka helped my bowling, not at all*
So I mentioned the dance party. Yeah, that happened. There was a dj..my apologies, a DJ. Not just some dude with an iPod, but an actual capital Dee, DJ, with headphones, taste and intentionality. Too much for a suburban bowling center, you say? PERHAPS. But hey, it was a Friday night. Shuffle on, friends. Shuffle on.
The staff was attentive. The crowd was happy to be there. The energy was good. The food was good for a bowling center. For a lot of places, actually.
I'd highly recommend Pinsetters. And oh yeah, tell 'em Big Texas sent you!
I go bowling roughly once every 5 years or so, so I have no real basis for comparison to other bowling alleys, however, I liked Pinsetters. Â We went here as a group outing on a Saturday night in January. Â We had reserved 4 lanes, and once our entire party had arrived, we were all set up to start bowling. Â
The entire place was clean and open. Â The bowling area was dark, but with some crazy disco-type lighting, as well as music videos playing on the huge screens above the lanes. Â There is waiter/waitress service right to your lane, as well as a sit down bar/restaurant area. Â
Our food was good - I got a veggie wrap and my husband some sort of cheese burger. Â Our only complaint about the food was that the fries needed salt, and there was no salt shaker around in the bowling area. Â Perhaps if we had walked over to the bar we could have gotten one, but we didn't want to leave our area. Â
I'll definitely keep this place in mind for my next bowling outing.... Roughly 5-7 years from now.
Bowling, booze and food. Â What more could you want from a night out with friends?
We've been to a lot of the other bowling alleys in the immediate area, and Pinsetter has them beaten hands down.
Get some shoes and grab a lane (they let you pay at the end after they've seen your face and know you're trustworthy after a while =p ). Â The one thing that sets this place apart from others is their food. Â By far some of the best bowling alley food that I can remember. Â Thursday night is wing night ($0.50 wings) and they almost always have draft/bottle beer deals. Â My wife and her female companions enjoy the mixed drinks; mainly the martinis. Â Some of the other cocktails are hit or miss depending on whether or not they have the appropriate ingredients. Â On three separate occasions, my wife tried to get a mango mojito only to learn that they kitchen had no mint in stock for the drink. Â Sad =( Â Â It's ok, get one of the dessert cocktails and you'll forget all about that minty monstrosity.
For non-wing grub, I usually go for the grilled chicken wrap. Â Freshly grilled chicken breast, chopped lettuce, tomato and avocado! Â No mayonnaise, honey mustard, barbecue (although you could get some if you ask), but you'll feel a little less guilty eating it, especially with the pile of french fries they serve it with!
During the bowling they'll play music videos (remember those) and during sports seasons they'll have the local favs; Phillies/Eagles, etc. Â All in all, it is definitely a fun time to enjoy with friends or with the spouse.
This place is terrible all around! Â It is not properly managed-and that's a HUGE issue-the OWNER, Mark, doesn't pay his bills, nor do they care what goes on in that place. Â It's not worth your time or money! Â It's actually a huge waste of time, money and nothing you'd want to experience. Â Their staff is rude, too!
Review Source:Went to Pinsetter last night and it was a lot of fun! Everything was clean, there was no smoking going on (they could make this clearer on the website, I called to make sure), and it doesn't get any better than bowling with decent drinks and snacks brought by actual waitstaff.
Our lane had some kind of issue where not all ten pins would be set up, or the machine would knock them down on its way up, and they moved us to another lane and gave us each a pass for a free game. They handled the situation as well as I could want, and we'll definitely be back!
Pinsetter is awesome! I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in considering it's in an old warehouse. The place is immaculate, including the ladies rooms. Servers at your tables, great lanes! Great music while you bowl.
The drinks are a little pricey, but the venues overall greatness trumps that!
Can't wait to go back!
I absolutely love Pinsetters. The combination of alcohol and bowling may be dangerous, but I like to live on the wild side.
I have yet to eat their food, but their drinks are good and reasonably priced. I was  given two free games a while back by the manager. I went with some people one Friday night, and there was a private event, so we couldn't get in. But they redeemed themselves, and showed good marketing by handing out free games to all who weren't aware of the event. Bravo!
As far as bowling alleys go, this is the nicest in the area. They have renovated the entire thing and it has actually become a cool place for a night out. You can bowl, sure. They will bring food and drinks to you while you do so (plus) or you can enjoy the bar and live music that they have on weekends. The food is actually far better than you would expect from a bowling alley. Definitely check it out.
Review Source:Ahhh...Pinsetters Bar & Bowl, or as we call it; CLUB Pinsetters. Let me explain...
This place is about as upscale as youre going to get bowling, unless you head to Lucky Strike in Philly. Its actually REALLY nice inside, with a full bar and eating area, private party rooms (again, surprisingly NICE) and lanes. Everything was clean and up to date. We went on a saturday, which is where they lose points with me, as they participate in that GOD AWFUL "black light" bowling that I absolutely LOATHE. It was LOUD with the music piped in through the speakers. Like, Metallica concert loud. We had to literally YELL at each other to hear what was being said. It is substantially quieter back at the dining area.
Speaking of the dining area, the menu is surprisingly robust for a bowling alley. Ahi Tuna tacos and shrimp salads and other "restaurant" type dishes are on the decent sized menu. Seeing as how its a freaking BOWLING ALLEY, I wasn't courageous enough to order oysters on the half shell and baked alaska, so I went with the boneless buffalo bites. The rest of my group got the sliders, the pretzel bites and a pizza burger
The buffalo bites were alright, although I got the "hot" and they were as mild as they can be. They DO have a "suicide" option, which if I ever go back, I will be sure to get if I go with wings again. The bites were served with limp celery and carrots. Meh. The sliders actually looked pretty good and I heard no complaints. They even appeared to be slightly larger than the average slider size. The pretzel bites were exactly what you'd get at a phillies game and came with some cheez whiz. The pizza burger was, well, a pizza burger, and like the sliders, came with fries that were thin and just ok. Like I said, they have a full bar, but the wifes vodka and cranberry was about 98% cranberry if you get my drift. Food and 4 "adult" drinks came out to $62.
Using a Groupon (seriously you guys, get on groupons!) we got shoes and 2 hours of bowling for $25 for the 4 of us. 2 hours got us 3 games, which IMHO is MORE than enough bowling.
A decent way to spend a night if you don't feel like heading to Philly (AGAIN!).
This is one of the strangest places I've ever been to. My boyfriend is from Haddonfield and we went with some of his high school friends before Thanksgiving. There was a $5 cover because a band was playing at the bar. I really feel like we shouldn't have had to pay the cover because we were just bowling but I guess there's not really a good way to get around charging the cover unless they stood at the entrance to the bar.
Anyway, the bar was PACKED and the cover band was TERRIBLE. I regretted paying that $5 cover as they kept playing as the songs they covered seemed to get worse and worse.
The bowling was... bowling. Nothing too impressive, although the lanes are updated and new-seeming.
The only bathroom in the place is in the front of the alley and so every time we had to go to the bathroom we ended up in a long line of people there to hang out and, I guess enjoy? the cover band. This is what made everything so weird. The women were dressed in heels and tight-fitting dresses. TO GO TO A BOWLING ALLEY.
Now, I may live in Baltimore but I've been dating my boyfriend for long enough to know that a bowling alley cannot be the only place to "go out" around there. It's not expensive from Haddonfield into Philly by cab! The place either needs a bathroom in the bar or.... I don't know, club night? to accommodate these people. Â IT'S A BOWLING ALLEY- you don't need to dress like a slut.
I found Pinsetter using the Yelp iPhone app (nice!) Â upon learning that our local bowling alley had closed down. Â We were really in the mood to bowl, apparently. Â A search for the nearest bowling alley pointed us in the direction of Pinsetter, and off we went. Â So thankful not only that the original bowling alley had closed, and even more thankful for the handy dandy app, because Pinsetter is one of the coolest places ever.
As bowling alleys go, Pinsetter has all the greats: Â clean, well-kept up lanes, Â up-to-date technology, good ball selection (that's what she said), and lots of fun specials to help you have the maximum amount of bowling for the least amount of money ($2 games on weekdays, $10 per hour for an alley on Sundays after 4, etc.) Â Â Even better, though, is their extensive menu - both for food and drinks. Â
Good food at a bowling alley? Â I know, that sounds so strange. Â It's strange to write. Â But it is the truth. Â The honest, delicious truth. Â Â The food menu has all sorts of appetizers from crab and cheese dip, bruschetta, macaroni and cheese bites, pretzel bites with cheddar cheese dip, chips and guac... and you simply cannot go wrong with anything. Â And if the appetizers don't tempt you, perhaps the regular menu will - inclusive of all different kinds of thin crust pizzas, grilled knockwurst, chicken parm sandwiches, various kinds of burgers, wraps, cold sandwiches, and salads. Â
Feel like indulging in a cocktail whilst bowling? Â Perhaps it will help your game (it helps mine!) Â You have a full bar to choose from, and an amazing specialty drink and martini list. Â You haven't really bowled until you have done so while accompanied by a martini. Â Really.
I should be starting this by reviewing the inside.... But I'll get to that in a few... My wife and I went here yesterday for Crab-A-Palooza... Man, this was a good time... The food was great, the band playing there was absolutely awesome... They covered everything from Axel Rose to Jay-Z to Raggae to Classic Rock... The people attending were extremely friendly and having a good time. The vendors all provided great service and products... Not much of a wait at all for drinks or food.. Can't wait for next year's event...
Inside, this is probably the best bowling atmosphere I've been in for awhile... Lively, spacious, the lanes are lit with colored lighting even during the day... at night (after 6) must be 21 to enter, which is great... a full bar and lounge, with a pretty decent menu... bowling and drink special almost every night, and a stage for whatever band is playing at night...
Sorry kids... if you wanna go bowling, you better ask about noon... The sitter will be at the house with you once the sun goes down
This was a great location for my friend's surprise 30th birthday last weekend. Â She's a very social person, so there were about 50 people at the party. Â We had the upstairs room, which was large and filled with comfy couches. Â We also had the lanes all the way to the right for our party. Â The staff were really nice and helpful. Â Our hosts had purchased 3 hours of bowling, appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks for everyone. It was such a great party. Â The space is really updated and is as nice as the upscale bowling alleys in NYC like Bowlmor. Â There are black lights and neon in the actual bowling area and all of the couches/seating near the lanes are leather. Â One thing that we didn't love was that there wasn't a ton of seating at the actual lanes themselves. Â Also, the food was ok, but I thought my burger was really bland. Â The quesadilla I tried was just cheese in a tortilla... not spices or anything interesting. Another problem was that we were given a set time to finish bowling. Â I missed my last frame of bowling because the lanes just shut off at the end of our party. Â It would have been nice if they let us finish our last game, especially since were in the last frame. Â All in all, this was a great location for a party. Â If you're looking for something fun or interesting for a teen or adult party, I highly recommend Pinsetter.
Review Source:If I'm going bowling, I'm going to Pinsetters! I have been there for kids' birthday parties, family game nights, and ladies' nights out. It's a great location for all purposes.
We've had great food and drinks pretty much every time we've been there. We like the boneless buffalo wings, fresh guacamole and chips, Bleu cheese burgers, and salads. Everything is made to order and fresh.
The place doesn't feel like your typical bowling alley. There are plenty of dive bowling joints, which is why this one stands out from the pack.
The staff is always attentive. It's nice that you can call for a server on the bowling scorekeeper rather than tracking them down and taking away from your fun time.
I even signed up online for a free bowling party for 10 people, and I won! We won free shoe rentals, 2 hours of bowling, and appetizers. We only had to pay for our drinks. Again, everyone was extremely friendly and attentive. Even the manager came out to greet us and ask if we were satisfied.
I highly recommend this place!
The bar is pretty good at Pinsetters. Beer selection has a little of everything (nothing really exotic/obscure, but not just Bud type beers), service is typically pretty friendly, and the food is pretty standard for a bar. Better than what you would think for bowling alley food, nothing real fancy/high end, but can be a nice night out.
Can be a little loud (with the music on the jukebox, which really varies between modern to the oldies), but they have some TVs good for a game, and the seating is very comfortable and nice.
Seems odd to say, but you can go here and have a beer and a snack and not bowl and you aren't missing anything. If they could adjust adjust the volume (I understand when it is loud with a band, but why so loud when it is playing [without exagerating] Grese), would have gotten 4 stars.
Pinsetter is great! Let me preface my review by saying that I was slowly but surely starting to be come one of "those" Jersey people who go to Philly for just about everything. For so long, the options on this side of the river had been so limited, but Pinsetter and a few other places are slowly making me change my ways.
I had my birthday party at Pinsetter on Saturday, 10/9. My brother had thrown his girlfriend's birthday party there a few months before, and I know my brother, so I knew Pinsetter wasn't the stereotypical grungy, smoky bowling alley.
I worked with Danielle to plan my party, and she was very helpful and assisted my in finding the combination of details to personalize my party.
The night of the party, I really didn't have to do anything but show up with balloons and my cake. Everyone was very helpful, and our server, Kelly, was very friendly and attentive. The live music was a plus, too!
There was a slight misunderstanding as to the price of the bowling - my friends and I were under the impression that the cost was per game, but it was really per person, per game. No biggie - I'll just know that next time.
All in all, I had a great time, and despite my terrible bowling skills, I will definitely go back to Pinsetter!
I went here the other day for my friend's birthday. Â She selected a package which required her to have 15 people in her party. Â Unfortunately we didn't have the groupon :( Â and it turned out to be $30/person which included appetizers, bowling time, and bowling shoes. Â We got pretty good appetizers such as pork sliders, nachos, chicken/veggie quesadillas, etc -- nice size platters too. Â Also on sundays, they have 25 cent wings!! Â Drinks were separate but they weren't that expensive. Â They had beers and fancy cocktails which the waitress quickly brought to us after we ordered. Â You might think this is a bowling center aimed towards adults with it's loungey setting but they also have private rooms for kids birthday parties. I believe for a private room/bathroom with food it costs about 18.95/kid. Â
The venue itself is awesome. Â It all looks brand new (lanes, seating, bathrooms, etc) and the seating is comfortable and kinda private from the other groups of people. Â They have projectors showing sports where the pins sit at the end of the lane and funky lighting turns on when it hits 9 or 10PM. Â
The only downfall is that our lane broke several times and we had to get a mechanic to come and fix it which cut out of our bowling time :( Â
Also, I give it a ++ for their design. Â I really like the 60s graphics they have going in their advertisements/print material. Â Love places that try a little. Â Will definitely come here again :)
Yay for my 200th review, and a 5-star one to boot!
We came here with our group of 10, Groupon in tow ($75 for 10 people, 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, and 6 appetizers). They didn't treat us like crap just because we had already paid. In fact, service was VERY attentive and we had someone coming by every 20 minutes or so to make sure we had everything we needed.
We had the following appetizers, and I think we all appreciated the fact that they waited for all of us to arrive-- food came out hot and fresh, not cold and rubbery because it was out too early.
1) crab and cheese dip
2) mac and cheese bites
3) loaded potato skins
4) buffalo chicken bites
5) artichoke and spinach dip
6) cheeseburger sliders
I was able to try everything except the artichoke and spinach dip and the cheeseburger sliders. Very very good, although the buffalo chicken bites were a tad on the dry side. The loaded potato skins are to die for! You seriously do not get food this good at bowling alleys...I'm so used to buying a grease bomb at an overpriced stand. This was a pleasant surprise.
I was particularly impressed by the look of the bowling alley. We pulled up, parked, and said something along the lines of "Oh man, I wonder if this is one of those old-fashioned bowling alleys." NOPE! It was absolutely gorgeous inside (did they renovate recently?). The shoes were brand new, or so they seemed, because they were still stiff and clean. The balls weren't all chipped and grimy, plus they had a good selection of weights and finger sizes. Bathrooms are spotless.
Our entire group had so much fun and some friendly competition. Thank you, Pinsetter!
I was shocked that the food here is so good. Â I can't say that I've bowled...mostly spend time listening to local bands, having a few drinks with friends and eating. Â The staff is very nice and attentive. Â My friends got a flat tire and the staff went way out of their way to help with the tire--in a driving cold rain. Â
My favorite here is the Buffalo Chicken Bites...absolutely delicious. Â
If you're in the Cherry Hill/Merchantville area, I'd strongly suggest heading out to Pinsetters for food, drinks, and of course bowling.
Ladies and gentlemen, I FINALLY broke 100 in a game of bowling. Â Yes, I do realize this still makes me the worst bowler in history, but an accomplishment is an accomplishment and must be recognized. Â Rome wasn't built in a day, right? Â Exactly. Â
I'd like to credit my outstanding play to Pinsetter, the Garden State's answer to Lucky Strike. Â Formerly Maple Bowl, the place has been rehabbed and decked out in retro kitsch-- think Continental Midtown or Jones. Â There are a bajillion lanes, all in semi-darkness with lots of blacklights. Â The tunes were awesome and ranged from Death Cab for Cutie to Warrant ("She's my cherry piiiie!" Â Haha, now it's in your head too!). Â Best of all, the music videos for each song are projected onto the wall where you bowl. Â Since MTV and VH1 tend to only show videos between the hours of too-tired-to-keep-my-eyes-open and oh-god-hit-the-snooze-button, it was cool to see that bands are still doing their thing.
The bartenders and wait staff were all friendly, and the turnaround time for a beer was about ten seconds. Â Speaking of which, each beer was brought out in a very frosty glass which was awesome. Â The menu had tons of options but I opted out since I'm trying to get back to breathing while in my skinny jeans. Â I had a bite of the bbq pork sliders and they were delish-- I will have to hit them up the next time, mos def. Â
My only gripe is that the women's bathrooms were very smokey. Â Seriously, ladies-- smoking is so 1985. Â Give it up already, or take your lazy butts outside so I don't have to inhale it while I pee.
