Not the best but certainly not the worst Mexican restaurant around. Â Food was average tasting and the prices were comparable to other similar establishments. Â Service, however, was a bit lacking. Â We were seated very quickly upon entering, which is always a good sign, but after that was a bit of a disaster. Â I was so thirsty for a refreshing water refill at one point that I would have flagged down anyone who passed by our table. Alas, I lost interest in the refill and just asked for the check when the waiter finally did come by. I had the veggie fajitas which come out in a sizzling skillet full of vegetables as well as a plate of retried beans and a pile of lettuce and tomato and some rice. Veggies themselves were a bit bland and I had to wait an additional few minutes for my three miniature tortillas to be brought out. My boyfriend had he steak tacos and a margarita. Tacos were good, margarita was really sugary. Â I liked the ambiance of the restaurant and the decorative water fountain in the middle. Â They also have outdoor seating. Overall, a bit of a disappointment.
Review Source:Killer service.  Indpls restaurants should send their new servers here to be trained.  We had the vegetarian plate A and Chimichanga meals.  The vegetarian plate - really  2 full platters - were almost more than I could eat.  Wife described the Chimi as one of the best.  So quick excellent service, excellent food, large portions, nicer atmosphere than typical Mex joint = earns top score.
Review Source:Poblanos in Westfield is located in the former Cancun on State Road 32. The host staff was friendly as was the wait staff. We were immediately brought chips and delicious salsa. For my entree, I had chicken fajita quesadillas which were very tasty. My guest and I then had delicious flan for dessert. Overall, I would recommend Poblanos.
Review Source:I am not sure about the "1st reviewer", but the big sign outside says it opened on June 15, 2012 with an extended opening on June 16th. So perhaps it was a grand reopening?
Anywho, onto the review...
Walking into the restaurant, you would expect the food to match the decor. A central eating area surrounded in real and faux stone pillars surrounding a working two tier fountain. Outside the said eating area, you are flanked by hacienda style roofing on one end and nothing to ornate on the opposite and on the third side a fully stocked bar ready to serve anyone a margarita or two. Music playing softly fills the uncovered industrial ceiling of the restaurant. Whether it is Mexican or not, that is left to be determined. It sounded as if there could have been some Caribbean beats in there, but I am not expert.
The bathroom was exceptionally clean but a "hand wave" towel dispenser would be greatly appreciated in any restaurant these days regardless of how clean the bathroom may look.
The menu was no confusing at all and had all the staples of any Mexican restaurant you can find anywhere in America. A lunch menu fills the backside along with some American favorites should a friend with not too daring of a stomach would enjoy.
When I try a new Mexican place, I like to judge the kitchen by a beef taco and chicken enchilada with a side of rice and beans. I figure if you can make these staple foods right, the rest of the menu would chance a second visit. As I awaited my food, I was served the traditional chips and salsa. The chips in a normal basket and the salsa in a pint sized carafe with an individual sized bowl to be poured into. If I may have one criticism, make that small bowl slightly larger so the chips can actually get some dipping action instead of just the juice remaining on the chip or smaller chips.
My food came rather quickly, but I was but one alone at the table and was not waiting for any other food. I also got there right before the people started flooding in for the dinner hour. The temperature of the food was adequate. I was surprised to find, what my mouth is still debating, mozzarella in my taco and on my beans. The beef taco was average; no party in the mouth going on. Onto the chicken enchilada. There was not enough sauce covering the whole thing. Sometimes I like it swimming in the sauce. Personal preference. Anyways, the chicken was satisfactory just as the taco was. Nothing special yet again. The rice now, was interesting. I never had Mexican style rice with potato in it. Maybe it was yucca? Not sure. The beans, like I stated earlier, were topped with mozzarella. Just very strange.
The bill though was nice. It was quite affordable and reflected the quality of food I ate. If I were to pay more, I would have been a little upset and perhaps given a 2 star review. But if you want decent Mexican food, Poblano's fits the bill, just don't expect the decor to match the level of the food.
This location just opened in April 2012 and it's fabulous. Â We had Hector for our server and he was in my top 10 servers of all time. We ordered the Fajita Nachos and lunch combo #4. Â The nachos were the best nachos I have ever had at ANY restaurant. Â I have been here twice now with this being my second visit in a week. Â I could not be happier with the cleanliness, service, food, management and pricing. Â I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Â They also have locations in Lafayette and Anderson, Indiana. Â Again 100 out of 10 stars.
