I have been to Porter Belly's a few times now, mostly for lunch or after work. Most recently I stopped by for a late lunch during a particularly slow day at work. They had Sierra Nevada Winter Warmer on tap! This is a fantastic beer and reasonably priced at porter belly's.

For lunch I always ordered the shrimp quesedilla, which really hit the spot. It was fresh and delicious and they even continued to make it for me when I would come in after they took it off the menu. Would be 4.5 stars if I could do it.

Easy, good pub food with a few more options than your standard bar. The portions aren't huge but the are big enough and the decor is nicer than most pubs in this area.

Pro: burgers, fries, draft beer poured correctly, cheap beer buckets, fantastic deal
Con: kitchen can be seen from bar and after watching that show "Bar Rescue" i feel that if they pull that equiptment up we may see some crazy stuff because it was slighly dirty around the edges

Porter Belly's has become our favorite place in Brighton Center. The cheap beer buckets are amazing, there is a great atmosphere at night, and I love the live music on Saturday nights. We had dinner there for the first time last week and although it took quite a while for the food to come (not sure if this is typical for a Friday night), we did enjoy our meals. If you're looking for a comfortable, casual night with music and lots of beers, head to Porter Belly's. We've never not had fun there.

Every once in a while we all need a Porter Belly's afternoon - a day to bring some buddies together, shun sunlight like vampires, and waste they day away on beer drinking and nonsensical laughter.   Aside from a few regulars, the place is pretty quiet mid-afternoon.  The servers here are quick and welcoming - they know you even if you haven't been by in months.  Food is standard pub grub - burgers, sandwiches, some decent specials.  I always end up eating a cheese stuffed pretzel - artery clogging never tasted so delicious.  As day turns into night this place gets pretty jammed - the crowd can get rambunctious but the staff are always quick to bounce the troublemakers.  Overall I love Porter Bellys because it's a place where you can relax and enjoy good food, drinks and company.

Three words. Get. A. Burger. Seriously, their burgers are killer, but, then again, all of their food is great.

This is one of my favorite places to go in Brighton Center. It's convenient, it is inviting, and it has great food and drink. It has a very authentic air to it  as well and is popular among the Irish in the area. I just really enjoy the atmosphere.

What I like best about it, is Porter Belly's is a great place to go for a fun night out or a quiet dinner. I love stopping in there after a long day at work for a pint and to get some reading done. Right after work it's quiet and I never get harassed, which is huge when you're a woman in a bar alone.

It's small and the seating is limited, but it's cozy and I've never not been able to get a seat. The service is a little bit slow, especially when it comes to food, but that's because they have such a small kitchen and, in my opinion, it's well worth the wait.

I wish someone had punched me in the junk right before I walked in here, so then I had to go the dick hospital instead of eating here.

It took an hour to get a burger and a buffalo chicken wrap, in an empty pub. Server stood around chatting with the other servers and the kitchen staff while we waited. And waited. No apology or explanation for the long wait when the food arrived. Don't worry, my burger was lukewarm with burnt bacon and my date's wrap was drowned in blue cheese dressing.

Consider this review me punching you in the crotch. You're welcome.

An amazing pub in Brighton.  Great owner and staff.  We go here every year for Christmas Eve and always have a blast.  I wish we lived a little closer so we could be here more often.

Porter Belly's is the perfect neighborhood pub. It's small and cozy, there's Magner's on tap, the bartenders are a little gruff on the outside but not assholes. The food is decent, and there's that adorable little snug when you walk in.

Porter Belly's is also virtually unknown as an afternoon destination, but seriously. I've grabbed my books, ordered a beer and some fries, and spent a few lovely weekday afternoons getting my study on. It's pretty perfect.

This is strictly a food review. Thanks to Groupon I checked it out for an afterwork bite and well, thanks to Groupon I have another place to avoid...

One of us order steak tips, med-well and it came with gravy, mashed potatoes and "fresh vegetables." The steak tips came out RARE, like dark red/purple cold in the middle, rare. The gravy and mashed potatoes were fine, nothing memorable and the fresh vegetables were.... undercooked, unseasoned carrots?

The other ordered a veggie burger, topped with mushrooms, onions and cheese. It came with fries and when we asked the waitress if we could get something else, she said.. well.. no. Okayyyyy, so the veggie burger came out and it seemed like it was an attempt at a homemade burger. That being said, it was full of whole (what I think was) edamame, and it kept falling apart. The mushrooms and onions on top of the burger were burnt to a crisp and the cheese wasnt melted. The fries were alright.

Avoid the food here and stick to the beers on tap.

I've been here a couple times... i've never eaten here, so this is just based on beers and ambiance:

Pros - open mic night is cool, beers are super cheap if you get a bucket (5 rolling rocks for $10), hasn't been too packed, think the music playing was OK, location is very convenient, good for a quiet drink with friends

Cons - i drank rolling rock and narragansett here. why do i degrade myself like this to save a buck....?

Steer clear on Karaoke night, but a great weekday place to go and grab an after work beer. Jukebox, darts, decent menu, good beer selection. Large Irish customer base and wonderful staff- great place to come for a drink after a bad day!

I was at Porter Belly's to support a friend whose band was playing last night.  We arrived early at the suggestion of my friend, as we knew it would get busy, fast, and got a lovely table in a cozy alcove.  The service left something to be desired, but the waitress had a cute Irish accent, which made everything okay somehow.

We ordered the nachos, which were good despite a cheese shortage, and beer (they still had Pumpkinhead, which I thought was fantastic, but which my boyfriend thinks is questionable), and didn't wait long before our meals came.

My friend ordered a special - porkchops and homemade sausage with mashed potatoes.  Everything in her meal tasted great, particularly the sausage, and it was an enormous amount of food for my petite friend.
The rest of us ordered burgers, and though they tasted good, the kitchen needs some extra training on what the various levels of cookedness should look like.  Now, I like a medium rare burger, and I expect that the professional cooks behind closed doors know what that means. The person cooking it should have a system to decide when the burger has been cooked appropriately.

The short version is that I ordered mine medium rare, and it was rare - like RAW and MOOING - so I sent it back.  The replacement burger was well done.  Hmm...  A friend ordered hers medium, and it was medium rare, and another friend ordered hers well done and it was medium.

After our meal was over, we ordered drinks from the bar, and the bartenders were attentive and made good, strong drinks. The place got really really crowded and was definitely a d-bag sort of crowd, but my friend's band rocked and we had a good time, all in all.  I'd give it another chance.

This was actually my third time to Porter Bellies and I have to say they seem to have a communication issue. If it where not for the nice decor and cleanliness I would have given up on them months ago. But I keep holding out for them to be better and well they are just ok. With so many bars within walking distance they never have and never will be my go to place. Sorry Porter Belly's!

First time here: 2 PM. Outside sign says come in for lunch. We go in sit down order drinks and find out the kitchen is closed. Bummer it looked cute.

Second time here: Sign outside. Come in for brunch. We go in. No brunch we got chicken wings which where horrible. The place also smelled like bleach so strongly I wanted to vomit.

Third time here NYE 2011. Despite their failures I wanted to give them a chance. For 15 bucks their website and signs outside and inside  said appetizers, live band, favors and champagne toast. So I figured what the hell lets do it. We can walk home drunk and it will be good.

I bought the tickets in advance. The bar tender with his Irish accent assured me it would be awesome, told me some about the band, and said be here at 8 when we open so you can reserve a table. I was pleased and excited.

So 8 PM we arrived. The doors where unlocked, we went in and a super bitchy bartender said " get out come back at 9 we are not open". One change your damn sign outside, two educate the staff and really would it have killed her to let us hang and chat?

I did mention the other bartender said 8 and she said no he never would have said that. So we went to Joeys to kill some time and it was pretty awesome but back to Porter Belly's.

We came back at 9. No apps, the party favors where fun, we got the little cubby area by the door which was awesome. We had our own tv and private window to order drinks. Not to shabby.

The band was a decent cover band and we had a blast.

I am really just sick and tired of Porter Belly's flyers, signs and staff saying one thing and doing another. It is bad deceptive marketing. I also could have used a few nasty chicken wings since we did not eat much for dinner and where expecting snacks. As a result I was really, really hung over.

Porter Belly's if you want my business get rid of the bitchy bartender and get your act together. When me and 7 of my friends go out, drop some serious dough on booze we expect to at least be treated with a smile.

Let me start by saying i want to go back. and the rating may go up.
(it was my first time there)

    The service was outstanding.
The abidance was cool too, very rustic, cozy Irish pub feeling.
and they had a great dinner deal.
($30 = a bottle of wine and two entrees)

That being said, i was a little disappointed in my food. its wasn;t bad, just nothing to write home about. i go the Penne pasta with read sauce, sausage and meat balls with garlic bread. it was decent.

the gf  got some sort of grilled veggie thing, that she enjoyed, but wasn;t astounded by.

    The wine wasn't bad.

as we where leaving a band was setting up, i think it was a johnny cash cover band. if we didn't have plans to go to the movies after, i would have loved to hang at the bar and soak up the music.

i'll def be back at some point.

Favorite place in the neighborhood to grab a drink.  Has a great atmosphere and the beers aren't crazy expensive.  They always have specials (Rolling Rock, 5 for $10 and 'Ganset buckets are cheap too) and a good selection of craft beers for around $5 each.

Open Mic night on Wednesday's can be cool but it's also a small place, so it sometimes gets loud.

Haven't had their food other than the free apps they handed out during the NBA finals in the spring.  Not bad, especially since they were free.  Also, their kitchen closes a bit early, but they allow you to go and get food and bring it back in.  We ordered a pizza from Imperial across the street and enjoyed our pizza while having some beers.

Quality food and cheap beer in a cozy, friendly bar. I wouldn't go when it's busy as it's small and liable to be cramped, but I've been there a few weekend afternoons and it's always enjoyable.

They even brought out free appetizers one very rainy Saturday afternoon when many patrons stayed for a long time just to stay out of the thunderstorms.

This is a traditional after-work hangout. The bartenders and servers know us and take care of us well. They have the best fries (or chips, depending on where you're from) and the best nachos in the history of Boston Irish Pubs. My co workers have a love affair with the curry sauce that comes with the fries, but I am not a curry person, sooo I am not the Biggest Fan. I'll eat their nachos every day of the friggen week though. In fact, thinking about them makes me want some RIGHT NOW. I've also had their keilbasa appetizer (or whatever it is)- and that was pretty good too! Their quesadillas are also not so bad. Nachos. Those are the best. Wait, did I comment on how great their nachos are?

Now if you go (never having been to PBelly's before) and get these heavenly corn chips of joy topped with blissfully magically delicious cheese and then you end up HATING IT- OMG. That's not my problem, nor is it my lack of taste. It's YOUR problem. And then you can just go eat nachos made with goopy gross velvetta that you get at high school basketball games. Yeah.   :)

You can ask for pitchers of margaritas and sangria and they taste great, despite being made as a pitcher!

I've only had dinner there once- a burger. Not so bad. I'll stick to nachos and fries (or chips!). And possibly a chicken quesadilla.

It gets crowded, and sometimes people play crappy songs on the juke box. But it will always be my most favorite After Work hangout EVER.

It's been a good long while since I've boarded a bus for a late night jaunt to a bar gig....but that's a story for another time. So, I was in Bahston this week looking for a place to live. Save for all my viewing appointments, I had nothing else planned. (I was quite overwhelmed with all the viewings and that's also a story for another time). I also happen to know many people back home who have lived in Boston but knew no current residents. Anyway, one of the dudes I met as a prospective roommate had a gig here the following day. Eh, why not?

So I got on the 57 and headed here for some booze and tunes. To my surprise, the bar had no cover. Excellent! They also take credit cards. They also have purse hooks at the bar. The layout makes it a litte awkward for a show, but it's still a fun time. Their sangria is also pretty good...it also comes in pint glasses. ;)

I don't think I should live with the drummer though. Me living with good-looking musicians could be trouble.

I love to go here in the early afternoons for some food and a few beers. They do a mean chicken curry (Irish style) and you can get it with 'half and half,' meaning, half rice and chips (fries). It's delicious. They also do some really great beer specials (cheapo) and their selection is pretty good for such a small place.

At night time it can get wild but what Irish bar doesn't?! During the day it's a great place to go and the staff are sound too!

Try the chicken curry, it gets 5 stars from me. Wash it down with a nice cold beer and you'll be all set!

They show EPL games, rugby, and other sports here too.

    I love this place!!

Craving a HUGE burger, and some AWESOME fries, for cheap?  Come here.  Oh - you want a pint of Guiness with that too?  Solid.

This amazing meal even comes with an authentic, traditional Irish brogue, which I always enjoy.

Ahh, sounds as warm and cuddly as a Gremlin (pre-"Gizmo Caca"), right?  Well, just as a Gremlin comes with rules, so does this place.

    Here they are:

    - Don't enter Porter Belly's after 9pm.  Unless you want to make out with a drunk BC student... or 5.
    - Don't go on Open Mic Night (which is Wednesday).  Unless you enjoy post Ani DiFranco, shreiking angry woman twang, on untuned guitars.
    - Don't sit in the back on Dart night (various nights).  Unless you don't mind getting pierced by darts.
    - Don't sing karaoke (Sunday) in an Irish bar.  That's just wrong.

Follow these rules, and you can't go wrong.  :)

porter belly's is quickly becoming one of my preferred bars in boston. not fantastic if you want a wild night out, but if you wanna chill with a couple friends over a few pints, or tuck away into a corner to converse with a date in a cozy ambiance, it's just the right spot.

oftentimes it'll have a bunch of fresh-off-the-boat irish guys sitting around watching rugby or soccer, or some crazy irish sport i've never heard of before but is pretty entertaining. also - wednesday night is open mic night which is AWESOME. the best act is this duo of two super irish guys playing irish drinking songs. they'll take requests and seem appreciative when you drunkenly belt out the songs with them.

one word to the wise is that there are RARELY girls here. like to the extent where on wednesday i was walking in with a female friend and she turns to me and goes "walter there are other girls here tonight!!!" later that night some coked out kid who i was chatting with over a smoke gave me a kings of leon mix cd. that was pretty cool.

This place is pretty fun.  Although a small venue (narrow but very deep) it doesn't cost an arm and a leg for your drinks and the fun factor is hard to beat.

I hang out with a group of girls that schedule their weeks around Karaoke at Porter Belly's on Sunday Night.  It is possibly one of the most hilariously fun events I partake in on a regular basis.  If you want pure gold for entertainment, you have to try this out.  Just watch it if anything.

I'll be the dude chilling out at the bar laughing his ass off in between cheers of  affectionate support.  A side of smiles with your Guinness?  Can't think of why not!

    My new local watering hole.

Went in last Wednesday to get some food. Grill cheese with ham was like 3 inches thick. Talked to the freindly bartends and some of the other patrons. Great open mic night. i went back on saturday to watch the BU game. The bartender knew what my name and what i drink, as soon as i sat down. Full when i went in around 8 and got steadily fuller as the night went on. They had a band this night and they played great.

I plan on going back often. I just might go tonight.

I used to absolutely love this place, great bartenders, great deals, and great tunes... it could've been perfect.  HOWEVER, it seems like most times that my friends and I go here (I'd say at least the last 4 or 5 times), my girlfriend gets hit on by drunk, obnoxious guys.  Now I've been to plenty of other bars in Boston, and she hardly gets hit on (which isn't a knock on her at all, she's gorgeous), but these guys are relentless.  It's just plain absurd.  I know I'm not the first one to notice this, as evidenced by previous posts, but come on, I don't want to be in "fight" mode every time in this place. I just want to enjoy some good times in what seems like a great place. Kick out the dumb, drunk morons please.

This place would of been great if it weren't for the fact that it was too small. There really isn't much seating here. It's just a typical bar nothing special. I didn't eat the food but I saw it and it looked really good.

I just think Porter Belly's is fun and cozy. Maybe it's because it's a stone's throw from my apartment, but coming here on a cold winter night for a pint of Murphy's is heavenly. The place is warm, the staff is friendly (and overwhelmingly FOB Irish), and the beer is moderately priced. If you're lucky, you can snag intimate seating areas around the bar for you and friends. I wouldn't make a special trip to Brighton to come here, but if you're a local and you want a fun night out with friends, I'd highly recommend this place.

Maybe it's just the people that I go with, but I've never had a bad time at this bar. The atmosphere is...different, it's always decorated really fun and the staff is great (Sean, specifically). There is constantly something going on- Sunday Kareoke (the DJ can be kind of a jerk when he won't let you sing Wilson Philips at 1:30am, but hey! there's always next time!), Wednesday Open Mic, tons of great local bands. ..
The front room is cozy if you are there with a bunch of people, but the bar is fun if you go with a few.
The dart board is a little challenging as half of your darts either bounce back or fall out by the time you can count them- but it only makes for an interesting game!
Alright, so it's not the classiest place in Boston, but for us, it's always a good time!

This place lost its cool for me when they took down the photo of Shane MacGowan ogling the tits of an ex-waitress there and redesigned it to look like an Irish pub theme park to better attract the college kiddies.  A'course, the old local color got shown the door, or moved elsewhere in the change, too. There should not be a dance night here. Ever.

The sick thing was this place WAS an authentic Irish pub in the first place.

That being said, the bartenders are still old-school cool, and if you get there early, it's great to sit in the snug and have a good convo. Just be on yer way by 8 before it gets overrun and loud.

Sunday night at Porter Belly's is like a magical karaoke portal.  Seriously - the first five singers I saw were all unbelievable.  Far better than anyone on American Idol.  It was like Brighton's Most Talented.

Minus one star for all of the regulars who kept trying to booze me up despite the fact that I said, firmly, that I was on Diet Coke for the night.  I get the sense that happens frequently.

This is a really relaxed place to hang out and grab a beer or six. I would definitely suggest going on a week night if the laid-back vibe is more your thing, because it can get a little rowdy on the weekends. The bartenders are pretty nice and I have heard that the pub grub is good so maybe one of these days I will give that whirl.

All in all, just a good place to duck into and grab a drink.

Really good burgers and fries and a chill place to hang out for an afternoon. Very cool woodwork inside.  Looks/sounds really loud and annoying on weekend nights, so if that's your thing, it may be worth checking out then too.

We decided to venture away from Allston one night, and came upon Porter Belly's.  Although we only stayed for a single beer and shot, we enjoyed the band that was playing and had a good dance off.

I've been here once, and it was pretty good for some burgers and beers! The Green Briar was too busy for us to get table service (apparently, because we sat around for 20 mins unnoticed before leaving), so we headed down the street. They have an extensive burger list and friendly servers. Great prices, too.

I have never eaten here (although I have drunk-drooled over others' sandwiches, which in my defense, look VERY yummy).

However, I have done the drink-dance duo here, and I must say, I loved every second of it.

If you stop by in the late afternoon/early evening for a few drinks, this small bar is appropriately busy so you don't feel like a drunk, but slow enough that you can get a speedy pint and pleasant service.

At night they have different bands so that you can recreate your Pearl Jam angst in public (since doing it in private is creepy).  Plus there are trees inside.  Which is cool.

All in all, this bar is similar to the Burren (or at least what the Burren could be), but it's not crowded.  And it's not annoying.  And I like it.

I have to share that this is my absolute favorite bar in or near the city!  I prefer the atmosphere during the week more than say Friday or Saturday night.  Week nights are less crowded, you can always find a seat and every single person who works there is fabulous!  They have TVs and play not just baseball and American footbal, but Gaelic footbal and all the rest...
Cozy, casual and relaxed. The best place to go after work to meet friends and unwind/watch a game on one of the tv's. Friendly customers who can always make you smile. Entertainment venue Thursday through Sunday with great live bands. Definately my favorite bar in or near the city!

Very good bar food and Irish breakfast. Good for live music and no cover charge. Can get a bit rough on the weekends, it is a favorite with the local Brighton Irish and college students. If you are brave, and wear a low cut shirt expect a lot of attention in this place!

Porter Belly's would have earned a three-star rating from me, because it does get really crowded and there are very few places to sit.  However, the live bands that play there are usually good and this is one of the few places in Boston where you can have a Carlsberg on tap!  They also have Smithwick's on tap, another hard-to-find beer in Boston.
