    Update...

I was contacted by Kathy, the owner, who apologized for the experience we had the previous visit. I always appreciate a business owner reaching out to their customers. Since then we have been back once and it was much, much better. I am, once again, a fan :)

**Note** The owner informed me that Prohibition does not serve wheat buns! Hence the reason I didn't get one with my burger. If you want wheat, you can choose to have them put your burger on toast. Pretty tasty either way!

I really want to give them 5 stars :/
Unfortunately, their beer according to my taste, is lacking. They do have great guest beers though (mmmmm Sculpin). The atmosphere is great, the staff are very friendly especially at the bar and they do serve their own food.
The food has been tasty but is a little hit and miss. Probably depends on who is doing the cooking I imagine.
Don't pass it up because it's worth the visit and you may find that extra star. I'm sure I will because I haven't given up on them and will be back!!

Been meaning to stop in for a LONG time. Finally got off work early, and was pleasantly surprised to see Tuesday 3-6 was half-off select appetizers. Two of which I wanted to sample: onion rings and wings. They were great! Burger was cooked as requested, side salad wasn't inspired, but that wasn't the reason I came. Which was for the beer. Vista 50th and Ruby Red. Wonderful to my relatively uneducated palate. A competent local brewpub where the wait staff calls out the regulars by name. Makes me homesick for Oregon.

Could not leave without a growler of Vista 50th. Have to carve out room in the fridge for more varieties.

So much what I was hoping Hennesey's/ Vista Village Pub would continue being, but VVP has so lost its way it's sad.

Great beers and great burgers. Enjoyed having a side salad as an option to fries. Natasha did a great job as our waitress.

Good beer, food was just ok and service was painfully poor. Went out of my way to try this place. Shame on me

This review is strictly for Prohibition's beer... not other beers carried by Prohibition.

Disgusting.  Don't even bother.  We ordered two flights to share between 9 people.  We left them on the table half full.  The only one that was remotely palatable was the stout, and even that was so lackluster it wasn't worth the calories in even a sip or two.  With so many breweries in San Diego putting out consistently good beer, this place is a waste.

If you come, the ambiance is cool, I hear the food is good, and they have a good selection of OTHER beer.  Don't get anything brewed by Prohibition Brewing unless they make some major changes.

I was looking to try a new place for some food and drinks and wound up trying this place out. Don't be fooled by the outside when you pull up, right when you walk through the front doors you are definitely happy you got out of your car to head inside.
It's a brewery so I was expecting the beer to be on point, but I was amazed by how great the food was as well.
This joint has everything, scrumptious food, TVs, tasty beer, and attentive servers.
First off, Melissa our server was amazing. I asked her what beer she reccommended and she let me try a few samples. I ended up loving the Beaver's Milk, which was from another local brewery. It's the best, they brew their own beer and also have a couple beers from all the surrounding breweries in the area. They definitely have something for everyone.
Once my thirst was quenched I asked her what she recommends to eat. I ordered a Frisco Burger (not on the menu), and fish tacos. All I can say is Wow! Both of these items were ridiculously delicious!
Since then I have also tried the TJ Burger and Philly Cheese Steak, still no complaints.
I can't believe I have waited so long to try this place. I've had a great experience every time I've been here and can't wait to go back again!

They were crazy busy tonight..Friday.  Even so, the servers were right on top of it.  It took a little longer to get the food than normally, but well worth the wait and gives you time to sample some of the local beers on tap.

Great beer and attentive service.  The food was yummy and affordable and timely.  I liked that they had other beers on tap besides their own.  I however love their Red and their Stout.  Can't wait to go back!

I came in for dinner and a pint.  We had buffalo wings - good, medium was just spicy enough; chicken salad - looked very pretty, wife said it was good; and fish and chips with parmesan fries.

I drank the "SBA" which was a tasty sweet red-ish IPA; I enjoyed it and I'll be back for more and to try out the rest of their brews.

The atmosphere is so-so - it was a little cold with the doors open, and the picnic tables aren't all that comfortable - but I do like the gangster decor, could use more of that!

4.5 stars.  We love this place because it is close to home, great food, average beer and the owners are great.  We have always had good service; just made a reservation for tomorrow night.  Fun atmosphere to meet neighborhood friends and friendly enough to bring kids if you must :)
We will keep coming back.  This is a mom and pop; not a corporate chain ... let's try to support them.

The food is great.... service is always good.

The beer they brew is ok.... seems like there's always a certain bitter taste in all of their beers that is not a good bitter... to me anyway... they usually have some really good guest brews as well, so if you're like me you'll prefer those.

The food here is bar-food done right.  Just really excellent... try the Philly Cheese Steak... might just be the best one in San Diego county.   Everything I've ordered from the kitchen has been super tasty and extremely satisfying...

Great place! Family oriented and very welcoming. Food was very good, especially the BLT Supreme. Beer is young but maturing, they also have local wines.

I have to preface this review with a disclaimer: I have only been to Prohibition for the beer, and have yet to eat there, so I cannot comment on their menu. :)

The house brew that Prohibition offers are great. I enjoy craft beer and always root for the local breweries. I love stopping in for a pint with my brother in law before dinner at my parents house, or to grab a growler to share with the family.

The feel inside this restaurant makes it even more inviting. The people working behind the bar are always friendly and have good advice on the house beer as well as the other local offerings on tap. I keep saying it, so one of these days I'll just do it; I have to stop in for lunch or dinner and sample the food... soon.

First off, the food was good and the service was quick (we were also the only people there as we arrived shortly before the kitchen closed). What I found disappointing was the beers. I've had better home brews (heck, I've made better home brews). Go for the food, not the drinks.

Good beer, and if you don't like any of theirs, plenty more on tap.  Food is pub fare, but quite good. Friendly staff.

A themed brewery?!?.. epic and ironic.... Great food, huge selection of beers both brewed by them and by other local/national breweries, and super kind staff. some crazy city regulation says they cant have a happy hours yet but they are working on it... overall... great place with a good mixed atmosphere. half the place is set up like a bar with a darker divey feel while the other half is set up like restaurant with good lighting, lots of tables, and a stage. Overall, its a little of everything for anyone and whole lotta beer for me... im sold

Food is awesome!  We have experienced lengthy waits in between ordering & recieving our food & difficulty flagging down our server in between drinks being put down & ordering.  Our routine at the table, "try to make eye contact with her...ooo..ooo...there she is...are u looking at her...come on...make...eye..contact".

That being said, IT'S ALL WORTH IT BECAUSE THE FOOD IS AWESOME!  Plus, the servers are very nice And heeellooo, the wait gives you a great excuse for a beer.  So, go to Prohibition for a night out, not a quick bite. Settle in & drink up!

A pretty cool dive bar deserving of 3.5 stars.

Friends and I stopped in here for a drink last week after a quick run nearby. I wasn't expecting it to be packed but was surprised that there were several groups planted throughout the joint having dinner and some just having drinks. I also wasn't expecting this place to be so large - I can see it getting pretty loud when they get busy.

We just had drinks this visit but we had a large table near the stage and got great service by a young gal. I chose the house chardonnay which was pretty good and when I got the check, was shocked that it was super cheap. Each drink was under $5 because my two drinks were under $10. score!

This is out of the way for me to come for happy hour with the girls but would recommend if you're in the area. The food looked delicious and I would've considered ordering something to eat if I didn't have a really late lunch hours before.

The one thing that I thought could use improvement is the parking lot. With it getting dark so early, we arrived at 6 and the lot was not lit very well at all. When I walked out to my car an hour or so later, it was even worse. 2 older guys were standing next to my car and had me a little nervous but they were very friendly and stepped a way a bit to make me feel a bit more comfortable. You just never know though...

What's the deal Prohibition?  Why the inconsistently roller coaster of a ride of service?

I've been here six times and out of those visits - two of them were exceptional service, one was adequate service and three were complete nightmares.

I cannot recommend a place that gives such inconsistent service.

The bad times were soooo bad that on one occasion after being ignored by our server and asking other servers & the bartender for service three times, we got up and left.  We attributed it to it being a busy night and the fact that we sat in the bar to eat & vowed not to sit there again.  The server literally wandered around aimlessly, randomly wiping things behind the bar, staring aimlessly at patrons and other bizarre behavior.  Maybe he'd been sampling the goods while on duty?

The most recent time took the cake.  Both our orders were completely wrong and no where near what we ordered.  I powered through mine but my husband's went back to the kitchen.  I'd finished mine easily 5 minutes before his came out.  So, our date night turned into him watching me eat then me watching him eat.  Apparently, it was explained, the waitress was being trained.  She never came back & what appeared to be the manager took care of us the rest of the night.  It continued to be a comedy of errors & we're convinced it's our last visit to Prohibition.

    Too bad.

    It had such potential.

The food is good... the beer meh .. what they did have on tap was not much, I tried them all and was not a fan . what I do like is they have guest beers so I had a pint of Alesmith X and some food. So if I'm hungry and in that part of town I might try them again but with so many other good breweries around I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Love the food; almost as much as I love the beer. The inside is pretty comfortable; if not a little sparse. Don't like going to the bar area when it's crowded; too noisy, and we've been forgotten by wait staff at least once. In the dining room, however, the service is real good, and the wait staff are pretty attentive. The quality of the food is definitely 4-star; and we love how the menu changes and remains flexible. It is definitely a great locals place. Oh, did I mention the beer (theirs and other selections)? Look for Groupons & Living Social deals sometimes. Good job Prohibition! We've been there x5, and will continue.

My wife and I love Prohibition Brewery!

This is a small, family run restaurant and brewpub, with a homey feel. The acoustics are such, it gets a little loud when it is crowded, but many places are like that, and in some ways, adds to the energy of the place.

The beer is good, and it has gotten much better since they've opened, so if you're hung up on an old review, think again. They also have a number of small, boutique microbrews available, and I am quite sure you will be able to find something you like. (That is, unless Bud Light is your beer.)

The food is most excellent. I have had the Rib Eye, Brats, Jalapeno Burger, Chicken Caesar Club Wrap, and the Steak Nachos, ALL are great!

The only thing that needs improvement is the wine selection. it's really, really bad, so don't think you'll get a great glass of red wine with that great Rib Eye, not happenin'. Great beer and that rib eye, no problem.

The service is outstanding. We ordinarily sit at the bar, and the bar staff is very attentive and friendly. One of them, Josh, has a following of his own. A brewpub clientele, so to speak, so look for the tall guy with brown hair and blue eyes when you enter.

So, if you want a great burger, slab of meat, brat, or anything else, with a good, iced cold beer to wash it down, go to Prohibition Brewery.

Quick let's slip into this speak easy for some booze! This place is just really cool, It is designed so well.  The food was great evertime I have had it (3). The staff is super friendly and helpful, and of course the beer, It is a pretty good local brew.  I give it four stars, because I think the price of a growler of beer is a little much, and I would like this beer to be more avalible. Suggestion you should try the Hef you up.

He says: Impressed by the food.  I was actually surprised how tasty the food was, categorically.  The jalapeno sliders were very juicy and delicious, cooked maybe a spot under medium.  The mac and cheese was excellent, with great cheese and delicious sausage- a real treat.

The beer was all right.  Some of the brews were decent.  I liked the Blonde and the Red Ale.  The rest was kind of take-it-or-leave-it.  The server was super nice but overworked: one gal for the whole place at lunch.  I didn't feel like our waits were too bad though.

She says: Fun, spacious, cabin-like brewery-restaurant. Food was excellent, much better than what I expected.  The mac-'n-cheese with sausage (you can choose what meat to add) was rich, perfectly oozy and salty, and comforting, and the portion was fairly generous.  The sliders were juicy and tasty (though I wished the patty size matched the bun size a bit more, glutton me).  The truffle fries were fresh and delectable.  Perfect foods to accompany beer for a big and happy belly.  And, the food itself is worth trying, even if you are not a beer drinker.

I liked the Blonde the best.  The other brews I tasted were a little too dark, intense, and/or bitter for my taste, even though I usually like stouts and darker beers.

The service was friendly and attentive, and the place seems good for all ages (we saw and heard kids running around the restaurant).  Would love to go back again. (Can you take me, honey?)

I really like this place, even though the service varies from bad to great. I've been here a few times already and I find that the service is worst when the place is really empty.

I've gotten the bratwurst, mushroom burger, and chicken caesar club wrap and they're all pretty good. And they have Racer 5 on tap. :)

    3.5...

We stopped in for a beers and burgers.

This establishment is really off the beaten path, so unless you know North County fairly well, you may get turned off from the distance. For those of you familiar with NC, it's right across the street from Ciao Italian restaurant.

Spacious atmosphere with a bar and restaurant. Disappointed with the limited amount of TVs (we were watching basketball) however.

We ordered a couple beers (ale and hef) and then a (Swiss) cheeseburger ($9) and spicy polish dog ($7). I ordered the ale and I didn't care for it, so I switched it out for the hef. Entrees come with a side of fries.

The service was great. Our server answered all our questions and was attentive. Some of the beers that were listed on their menu were not available, which was disappointing.

The burger was juicy and well portioned. Decent food at reasonable prices.

I've driven by this place several times, but never really noticed it until the other day.  I came for food and beer, so a pretty good sampling of the offerings.  We had a pitcher of their IPA and it was pretty good... I'm not a beer connoisseur so I don't know the "technical" ways to describe it, but it tasted slightly different than most IPAs I've tried.  In any case, it was very good and I'd definitely try it again.  As far as food goes, our experience was interesting... the server came up and said that they had accidentally made an extra order of fish and chips and he offered it to us at no charge... cool!  It was great!  The fish was perfectly cooked with a nice batter.  The fries were some of the best I've had... they put what I was told is a cajun seasoning on them.  Perfectly cooked, not greasy at all... however, the seasoning really makes them great.

Overall, service was great.  The wait staff was very attentive and we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door.  The prices are also very fair.

I'll definitely come back.... good beer, and great food at reasonable prices... can't beat it!

They have some decent beers here.  I had their red and tried a sip of my girlfriend's IPA.  The IPA was maybe a little more like an english style IPA as opposed to an American IPA, more on the malty side, hop bitterness, but not quite as much aroma and definitely not the big citrusy, piney characteristics.  The red is also more on the malty side which is fine but I prefer one with some good hop aromas.  All the house beers are $4.50 per pint.

The server was friendly and came by frequently but wasn't pushy.

The food situation is a little lacking.  This might have been because they were still in soft opening mode, but the vegetarian options are lacking.

Stopped by here just to try the house beers.

I ordered the IPA and had a sip of the red ale and the brown ale.  All were good.  The IPA was really dark though, which maybe is a normal thing for IPAs, but I always think of IPAs as being lighter.  The red ale was probably the best of the three.  I'd like to try the hef, they were out when we went.  At $4.50 a pint, the house beers are definitely worth a try.

We were greeted by a server right away, and he came and checked on us often.

I didn't order food, but I did look at the menu (which said it was the soft opening menu, so maybe they are going to add more stuff soon...) and I was bummed to see there were not very many vegetarian options.  At least put the obligatory veggie burger on there, or some kind of bomb grilled cheese.

I'd visit again when in Vista.

For a last minute surprise bday party, we couldn't be happier. From the beginning the staff was helpful, nice, and accommodating. My sis in law reserved some tables in the back room. When I arrived to to decorate they had a table set up on a small stage (for cake, presents) Staff offered to help with the decorations, they were welcoming, kept great record of evryones tab, and always came by to check things were to our satisfaction.
We did try some food, mac n cheese was great (and a hit with kids) teriyaki burger awesome; wings good.
Overall the experience tonight was perfect!
I do know @ times they run out of their own beer, which can't go one for longer, helllo a brewery. But for food and casual hang out and beers, stop in. Thanks staff we had fun :-)

First, I am 'not' a beer connoisseur.  But I tried their 'Hef U Up' wheat ale.  Not my kind of beer, others my like it.  Then I tried their 'Red Ale'.  That I liked.  I am not going to comment on why I liked it cuz I am not experienced enough with beers to say anything.  I had their Fish & Chips.  I would not go there just for the food.

When I arrived, there were only a few people there and Joel greeted me as I walked in.  Plenty of seating & I was by myself, so I sat at the bar.  Joel was very friendly and helpful getting me onto their WiFi.

The atmosphere is what you would expect, many TV's with the game on.  It is clean and not crowed with tables.  I could see picnic tables in the back, that I don't care for.

Joel might be a reason to return, if you like the beer.  I would not bring a date there, especially not on the first date.

I'll come back later to try a couple different beers and a different meal.

This was my second visit.  In my previous review I was looking forward to seeing their improvements...

The only two beers I wanted to drink tonight (ASB & Red Ale) were out.  Two beers not available on draft!  That is so annoying.  The Weiss Bier was pretty bad so we ended up getting Newcastle instead.  I want a brewery that I can go to and actually drink their beer.

The food was OK.  I liked my wife's chicken sandwich, my Philly Cheese Steak was alright, a bit sweet.

Taryn did a good job serving us, was attentive... although she did bring our beers before our waters, so my wife had to wait to have a drink til the water arrived while we were drinking our beer.

I'll try Prohibition one more time and if I can't get a beer that I want, that will be the last time!

Newer brewery that opened in November. Our friends recommended we stop by on our beer trip. We ordered and sampler and some food.

    Hefenwizen
    Sweet Biscuit Amber Ale (SBA)
    IPA
    Stout
    Porter

The porter was really good, but the others just didn't excite me. I would love to come back after they have been opened longer to see them improve. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. The food was also very good and they had multiple options for mac and cheese :)

We went in for lunch on 11/30, a couple weeks after their opening.  I asked if they had flights of their beer.  The waitress said "Sorry, we're all out."  Me: "You're out of the small glasses for flights?"  Waitress:  "No, we're out of beer."  Seriously???!!!  They also were out of several of the guest brews on the menu.  We tried ordering a Stone Levitation, but that was frozen.  Thankfully, they had Pipeline Porter (in bottles), so at least there was something good.  Also, minus points for a craft brewery that also serves Bud Light and Coors Light.

The food was decent.  My burger was good, though my friends did not like that they were all very well done.  The waitress did not ask how we wanted the burgers cooked.

The decor was nice.  Wide open seating area with lots of big tables.

Maybe I'll give it a try again once they have their beers ready, and I'd be happy to re-rate it later.  But really, there is no excuse for a brewery that is completely out of all their beer.  If you aren't ready to open, don't open.  That would be better than opening with no beer to serve.

A-OK is right! I'm so happy that we now have a funky little brewery to head  to on nights we don't feel like traveling to the "big city". The brewery is nestled in a quaint area that has a sort of "one horse town" feel to it. Perhaps it's just that the feed store is a block down the street.

Anywho, the service was warm but not wise, the beers were a tad on the sweet side, Ceviche was meh, and chips tasted like they were from Costco. My fish and chips were a bit better, and tasted fresh. The strips were smaller than I am used to, and very greasy, but tasty. I inquired, and the fish was cod.

When my guest arrived they brought him a sample of three beers, how nice! Unfortunately, the friendly bartender never returned to actually pour him some of his fine moonshine. He sipped on his samples and my wine and we polished off the fish and chips.

I'll add a star when they get their soft menu a little more sturdy, and I will add another when the staff becomes a little more attentive.

All in all, it's extremely difficult to put a restaurant together. This place is off to a great start, and I will be coming back, and watching it grow in our community. Bravo to these bootleggers for turning an abandoned area into a speak easy worth visiting!
