Didn't love it, didn't hate it.  Average food, average prices and average service.

The one thing I would recommend is the smoked trout, listed among their appetizers, which really outshone our meals by a considerable margin

When I came here with my fiance, we were a part of a Saturday night dinner rush during our most recent stay in Lake Placid. Six months ago we ate at The Hungry Trout upstairs. I loved The Hungry Trout, but R F McDougall's paled in comparison. I believe both restaurants operate out of the same kitchen, which really made this dinner unbelievable. You can actually order off of The Hungry Trout's menu if you'd like, and that's nice because the two menus are very difference. I ordered the Fish and Chips, because it smelled awesome when I walked in. If the fish was fresh, I'm curious to find out how mine managed to border on frozen in the center. That being said, the parts of the fish that were cooked were awesome, and the fries that it came with were good, too. The tarter sauce was good, and the cole slaw was different in a very good way.

The dining room isn't huge, but big enough that our two servers were stretched thin throughout our stay. Our server did a good enough job, but I was left waiting longer than I'd like to get a refill. The walls are covered in fishing signs and it's a really cozy/fun atmosphere. It's pretty loud, though, and while it's not the loudest restaurant I've been in, it's hard to carry on a conversation without shouting over everyone else trying to shout in order to have their own conversation.

I didn't hate this place, but I definitely wouldn't give them another chance unless it were earlier in the evening or a weekday.

Cheaper than most places in Lake Placid.  I would suggest though not going off of their online menu because once I got to the joint the prices were all about five dollars more than what was on their site.  Nice.

The menu has gourmet burgers, fish, and a few steak and pasta dishes.

The joint was packed when we arrived.  Very loud in this place too.  The staff seemed to be stretched thin (only two waiters working) and I witnessed the table across from me waiting 20 minutes just for their drink order.

I ordered steak tips with fresh veggies and potatoes.  I got about five green beans, an ice cream scoop of potats, and a ton of steak tips.  I requested my tips to be burnt or well done and instead I got a medium rare steak.  I couldn't help but notice that two of the tables around me all got the same dish as I within three minutes after I was served.  I wonder if one of them was stuck with my burnt steak?
