A decent $6.99 CFS special: loved the green beans too. But keep the price in mind when you read this: if you are craving "the best" you've got to pay for it. Elsewhere. But then, would it be authentic?

Friendly folks run this place: looks like most customers are regulars which is always a plus in my book.

Good place for down home country comfort foods, but doesn't appear to be very 'vegan friendly... which makes sense because it's Texan home cooking; and not that silly limp-wristed sissy crap from California!

They have meat in the green beans... meat in the corn...  probably have meat in the iced tea, too....

Their liver wasn't very well made, yesterday (more cajun blackened with the texture of shoe leather, which is probably great if you're into the whole 'hobo dining experience' and eating your own shoes).

If you're not, stick with the more traditional meals like chicken fried steak. They had a BBQ chicken on the menu yesterday, as well, and it looked pretty good (but I'd already ordered the chicken fried steak). The folks next to us got half a chicken (each!) basted with an unknown BBQ sauce.  Didn't ask if it was bold, tangy or sweet. Looked good, though.

Daily lunch special was $6.99 and included main course, rolls, dessert, large iced tea and three veggies (except for the tossed salad, my other veggies came with bits of meat mixed into them!  Yay!!) :)

Just a bit off the highway this classic Texan hitching post is exactly what you would expect from a country restaurant. It's the real deal, Lonestars on the walls, old people who seem to never at a corner booth, and several friendly waitresses who call you 'hun'. I only had the breakfast but here's what I can for sure: R & K had some of the best pancakes I have ever had in my entire life. I have had pancakes up and down this great nation, but leave it to a small country diner off I-35 to fix some of the best breakfast. Chatting with the waitress, it's the real pecan syrup that makes the difference, but whatever they did it was pretty special. The eggs were a big dry, the grits and coffee were good, but I may go back for the pancakes alone.
